Best

I love sushi recently and this my place, with great prices and even better service.definitely recommending!!

Worst

Sushi was average. Management and service were laughable. This was my first and will be my last experience at Ichiban. It was a friends birthday and were looking forward to a grea...

Best in Utah 1/12/2008

All I can say is WOW. If you don't mind the wait, this is definately the best. You will have to strategically plan you visit to fully enjoy Ichiban Sushi, because parketing and seating can be limited during the peak of business. I would recommend the mussel shooters for starters. Excellent Sushi; an explosion of flavors. Pros: Excellent Food Cons: Small waiting area. more

Good times had by most 4/27/2007

I love sushi, I have been all over the world and look forward to eating sushi when I travel. Granted I have had better Sushi elsewhere such as Boston, Los Angles, Japan, Australia, etc. But when in Utah I head to Ichiban. (Takashi is another good choice but smaller) It started in Park City and was bought out and then owner Peggi Whiting moved down to Salt Lake and was recently bought out again, she had to be doing something right. The liquor menu is vast with many options for anyone who likes to drink, myself included. The rolls are what they are, crafted for your tastes. GO GO GO! Pros: Good food good times Cons: Pricey but worth it more

Yukki Sushi 4/23/2007

Anyone thinking this place has good sushi doesn't know what good sushi is--period! But then again, how many Utahns would even dare venture forth to, say, New York, or--gasp--San Francisco! The fact that Ichiban gets voted ""best seafood"" is either typical Republican ballot-stuffing or just pure ignorance and wishful thinking on their part; this place wouldn't last a week in any major metropolitan city, and obviously not in Park City, either. Something tells me Ol' Peggy got run outta that town! Perhaps we should do the same--she and her restaurant are an insult to epicurians everywhere! Pros: One French Sparkler by the glass, a bottle of Italian Prosecco and a Kiwi Savignon Blanc... Cons: ...but like most restaurants, the rest of the wine list was horrid and all were over-priced. more

try the X96 roll! 3/16/2007

This place has EVERYTHING! The setting is in a remodeled church. They have great service, awesome sushi, and a really cool floor seating section. You HAVE to go to the Ichiban. Pros: It's the best sushi place I've ever been to more

Beautiful 2/21/2007

Being our first time here, I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. The prices were comparable to other mid-scale restaurants in the downtown area, and the Yellowfin sushi was amazing, as were our entrees, which were plated with an artistic flair and were as impressive in presentation as they were in taste. Our server's assistant was very attentive with water refills, but unfortunately the same could not be said for our server herself, who was rarely seen outside of food delivery. Inattentive service was the only low point of our visit, and we plan to return in hopes that this is not the norm. more

Losing it's appeal 12/19/2006

Ichiban used to be our favorite sushi restaurant when Peggy owned it. The rolls were bigger, the prices were cheaper and the staff was better. My husband and I went yesterday for our anniversary and were even more disappointed than the time we went several months ago. The rolls are so much smaller, the prices are extremely high (the rolls are averaging $2 a slice), My Funky Charlie roll was missing the crunchy ends (the best part!), they don't even give you the wet cloths afterwards to wipe your hands with. It seems like they have new staff everytime we go. The newest sushi roller looks like he's in grade school and the wait staff look like they're in punk bands. Ichiban is falling apart. Pros: Good tasting sushi Cons: Price more

Tasty sushi rolls, fantastic shrimp appetizer (a specialty!!), gyoza is great... 10/12/2006

My husband and I love to make a meal out of appetizers and sushi rolls and Japanese beer (or try the Saketini)!! The restaurant decor is special, and the hostess and wait staff remember you and are attentive.. Ichiban and Kyoto are our two favorite sushi restaurants in town...and we crave sushi once or twice a month!! This would be a terrific place to bring friends who are a bit tenative about trying sushi for the first time and also for those friends who are sushi fans!! Pros: Food, service and atmosphere Cons: nothing more

Mediocre at best... 8/10/2006

We heard how awesome the sushi was here, and have to say we're disappointed. We tried their Death Roll (usually a shoe-in), and to say ""blah"" would be a compliment. It was okay...but there are many better places. Keep looking. Pros: Interesting atmosphere...upbeat place to hang out. Cons: Not great sushi. more

Good 8/4/2006

Ichiban offers good sushi, if the good chefs are working. I usually like their nigiri, but I find their maki (rolls) too ""Americanized"". The atmosphere there is good, but if there are large groups on the main floor or in the private rooms the whole restaurant can be quite noisy. Pros: comfortable seating, friendly chefs Cons: parking, not authentic rolls more

Great sushi in an old church? Sounds like a plan to me! 6/30/2006

You simply can't beat the Japanese trained Chef, fantastic original rolls, awesome contemporary decor blended with an old-church feel and the private dining booths are absolutely unbeatable. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Location Cons: Parking can be a big problem on weekends, avoid neighboring lots you will get "booted" more

Yummy cant get enough 5/10/2006

If you haven't tried Ichiban for some odd reason you must do so immediately. It is wonderful especially Silverlake and Funky Charlie. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a date. Pros: Food Cons: Serivce Slow, No reservations more

Ichiban is one of the Best 3/18/2006

Ichiban is and has always been one of the best places to go for sushi in Salt Lake City. They import their fish in fresh. Read reviews from SLC Weekly and all over town including TV/Radio Reporter Reviews. The people vote annually and say Ichiban is the best of Salt Lake. Don't listen to Rick. He's new, or a mad drunk. Go to Ichiban for the X96 rool (now on the menu), Funky Charlie and chilled pearl sake! more

Poor fish 8/18/2005

I have been eating Sushi for 20 years, all over the world. This was the most tasteless, worst Sushi I have ever eaten. Honestly, it was terrible. I had a rainbow roll, shoved on plate, looked tasteless, old & it was. The other fish the same. Tasteless. I'd recommend trying to serve fresh fish! The beer was fine! more

Great Service Always 7/27/2005

They were the best when they were located in Park City, and they are still the best. more

Great sushi, expensive 7/7/2005

The sushi at Ichiban is great! There are lots of rolls and rolls of the day. It is definitely better than the rest, however, it is also much more expensive than others. For a special occasion, this is a great place. It's in an old church, which is very cool. Pros: great sushi, atmosphere, quick service Cons: expensive more

User review by neonmoon 4/14/2005

Not worth the drive downtown. The service was very slow and we couldn't get our waitress to smile. more

Whenever I am in town.. 3/20/2005

Whenever I am in SLC I always stop by for great sushi. The Green Eggs -n- Ham roll is one of the best rolls around! more

Great Ambiance 6/1/2004

Without a doubt the coolest sushi restaurant that I have been to. The modern decor contrasts very well with the church that is the restaurant building. The fish was fresh and tasty, however there was an overabundance of rice in the nigiri pieces. more

Exceptional Atmosphere 3/7/2004

I expected to get so-so sushi in an old church but the sushi was great. The sushi portions were generous and the special rolls were very good. Pros: service, food presentation, portions more

Best--in Utah 10/29/2003

Funky Charlie indeed........raspberry Sake with every roll....mmmmmmm.... This place just gets better every time I go. 2 people + 6 rolls + small combination + 4 things of sake = 2 very fat/happy people. The whole meal under $100 !!! Gormet eating at fast food prices ----Try to tip like you're not in Utah and I garuantee the service will be great every time. Almost forgot I was in Utah for a while........... Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more
