Best

I love sushi recently and this my place, with great prices and even better service.definitely recommending!!

Worst

Sushi was average. Management and service were laughable. This was my first and will be my last experience at Ichiban. It was a friends birthday and were looking forward to a grea...

Finger Licking Good 5/19/2003

Ichiban has some of the most consistant fresh fish that I have ever had. I wish all the sushi bars in town could say the same. Their rolls are great if that is your idea of sushi. The rolls are obviously good enough for Happy Sumo to steal most of the names to put on their menu. I have never had a bad meal at Ichiban and have never had a complaint from my so-called ""sushi experts"" that I have taken there. Pros: consistancy, variety Cons: price more

Like catfood? You'll love Ichiban 2/19/2003

Ichiban is the David Copperfield of sushi bars. With lots of flash and distraction, those who can't see the ""man behind the curtain"" are fooled into thinking they are actually eating quality sushi. If you don't know sushi or particularly care this place was built for you. I couldn't agree more with the previous review (obviously written by someone who knows ""real"" sushi). Much of the fish is undoubtably frozen and low grade. The preparation is assembly line. The sevice pathetic (given that wait help and even many ""chefs"" can't answer the simplest questions about the menu or fish types - God forbid someone actually learn a few words of Japanese!). And to add insult to injury the prices are higher than both my other favorite sushi spots (Tsunami, Shogun). Pros: Beautiful building Cons: Food, Food, Food more

good sushi ok atmosphere 1/15/2003

I enjoyed my meal and the service was good but to me it just seemed to lack the traditional Japanese atmosphere. to much american influence in the decor. more

Food Great, Chefs freindly 12/18/2002

I've only been to a few sushi places but this is without a doubt my favorite. The chefs at the bar were very helpful and freindly, all of them concerned that you enjoy your meal. more

Wonderful 12/2/2002

This is my favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is great, the food is excellent, the servers are very nice. It's one of those restaurants that you wouldn't think would be in Salt Lake City if you don't ever experience the culture that we really do have here. Pros: People, Service, Good Prices Cons: Small Parking Lot, REALLY busy weekends more

Excellent! 11/29/2002

My family goes there a lot and we love their extra-wonderful sushi rolls, tempuras, sashimis, among others, plus their exceptionally friendly and welcoming service. Their prices are reasonable and competitive with other Japanese Restaurants. The best thing about them is they know how to appreciate their most loyal and regular customers in the best and most generous token of appreciation once a year - by throwing a lavish party for them, by invitation only! Only Ichiban, no less! Pros: Best Sushis, Ambience, Service Cons: A bit pricey for some more

Dudee, it is the best 11/27/2002

I have been there many times and it is my favorite place to go with or without my family. The tempura fried sushi rolls and eel rolls make a stop at my table every time. My oldest son who is now 17, requests to go there for every birthday dinner. He drags some friend and makes them try sushi. My 5 year old daughter can even get a rice roll and vegie so she feels important too. She likes the california roll and the fried rolls too. You should just try it and yes you'll never go anywhere else. They have clean restrooms and the only down side is the parking lot. WAY TOO SMALL!!!! Pros: cool fish aquarium, kid friendly, clean potties Cons: bad parking, cooked rolls take tim more

Awesome Sushi! 11/8/2002

Every time I've been to Ichiban the food and service have been outstanding. The atmosphere is definitely a plus as well. My favorite rolls are the Mars and the Silverlake, which I don't believe is on the menu. The sushi is very fresh and of high quality. Many sushi restaurants in Utah don't have as high standards of fish. I'm a loyal fan of Ichiban. Pros: Fresh fish, creative meals, great Saki more

Going Down Hill Fast.... 11/3/2002

Having frequented Ichiban ever since it was in Park City, I have seen this once sushi standard go down hill. The food quality is poor and service arrogant. When I asked what the chef recommended, he acted to busy to even answer my question, and simply said that everything is good like it always is. Well, sadly to say, it was horrible and I did not even finish my meal. While the ambiance and decor is very nice, the sushi is mass produced and very limited in choice. Pros: Decor Cons: Expensive, Poor Quality, Limited Choices more

Fantastic Sushi 11/2/2002

I was never a big sushi fan until I tried Ichiban sushi. Theyre great for sushi beginners. Although their entrees are not that great, the sushi is fantastic. Pros: parking, Inexpensive, atmosphere Cons: small tables, chopsticks only, entree more

Dissapointing... at best! 10/23/2002

Ichiban Sushi is, in my opinion, one of the worst Sushi restaurnants in all of Salt Lake and Park City. Granted, they have a notable chef, but I have been there several times, and have been dissatisfied each time. The sushi was prepared incorrectly, and simply wasn't as good as other restaurants that I frequent. Also, for as pricey as it is, I was very dissappointed. more

Great Atmosphere, Bad Sushi 10/19/2002

The sushi is terrible. They premake rolls so they don't taste so fresh. Many of their rolls are so big you can't fit the whole piece in your mouth. The atmosphere is great, but the sushi leaves something to be desired. more

ichiban does mean number 1 9/24/2002

housed in an old church building that used to an italian restaurant, the conversion to a sushi bar is amazing. More amazing is the creativity of the owner/chef who has come up with the most unique and delicious sushi combos found anywhere. gambarimashita! more

I give it a thumbs up! 9/19/2002

I have never had sushi outside of utah so im sure that skewa my opinion but Ichiban had great sushi and the service was fairly fast and freindly. I realll liked the building it is in but the atmosphere felt a little to much like a cafeteria. I will still go back for more of there Rasberry Saki and a caterpillar! more

LOVIN' IT ALL!!!! 9/6/2002

GREAT FOOD. I can't say enough about this place. Great atmosphere, great service and to die for sushi. LOVE IT ALL!!! Pros: everything Cons: expensive, crowded sometimes more

Good sushi 9/3/2002

Ichiban is a great place to go for decent sushi. The nigiri is quite nice and of adequate size (other places in Salt Lake skimp a bit). If you're in the mood for very tasty (but obviously not authentic) rolls, this is your place. The fried rolls (not found in traditional Japanese cuisine, but taste quite good) are excellent. Their rainbow roll and caterpillar are quite nice. Not great sake, though. more

Ambiance does not equal quality 8/31/2002

I place Ichiban in the same category as La Caille: trendy, a place to be seen, lots of ambiance, but don't go there for great food. The sushi at Ichiban isn't bad, but it definitely does not rank up there with Ginza. more

first time sushi girl 8/28/2002

i went here and the atmosphere is great . food is great. have always been a seafood lover (from Florida, so i know good seafood), but never had it raw. i've been having cravings ever since. Pros: chopsticks only! Cons: poor parking more

Good as a Coastal City 8/13/2002

Having spent a long time in Portland, with fresh fish and good sushi places, Ichiban rates with the best. Great service, unique ambience, and a comprehensive menu, they are easily the best in town. Cons: Occ. tight parking more

number one 8/2/2002

Ichiban is the Japanese word for 'number one sushi in salt lake.' They have a great variety of creative rolls, and of course all the ingredients are super fresh and high quality. The price always seems to be a little lower than other places around, as well. The private rooms are fun when you have a large group. Pros: quality, variety more
