Old school Dining 1/3/2010

We went here on the recommendation of a local. We showed up around 8pm without a reservation, The maître d’ told us it would be about 45 minutes, ok so we figured we would sit at that bar and have a drink. His assistant came up to us about 15 minutes later and told us we would be seated next, as we headed back to our table they handed me a red rose, which they do for all the ladies, a nice touch, but the maitre d' then proceeded to tell us that really we were not next his assistant made a mistake, but he would seat us any way....uh thanks. Anyways, the place is very old school, you have a ""staff"" waiting on you..which I almost found silly as we placed our order, then the second waiter came to take our order also a few minutes later. I ordered the lobster, which I enjoyed, my boyfriend order rack of lamb, which he did not like. They make your salad to order in front of you which was cool. All the wait staff was very nice. Between salad and the entree they gave you sorbet to cleanse your palate. They had a nice selections of deserts, but we did not get one, but they gave us a nice platter of chocolate dipped fruit. All in all, it was nice, but probably would not go back again. Pros: Attentive wait staff. Cons: Expensive more

Excellent Service and Food 3/6/2009

My wife and I just got back from a trip to Vegas and ate at Hugo's Cellar for the first time. I'm not sure about the two reviews before mine (They seem to have a personal beef with someone). Our experience was great. We had reservations, but arrived early and were seated anyway without issue by a friendly hostess. Our two servers were Michael and Anthony. Both of them were very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and proper restaurant etiquette. Our food was cooked to perfection and was equally as tasty. Our salad's and everyone else's salad (that I could see) were prepared in front of the tables. The price was not cheap, but at the same time I have ate at many other Vegas restaurants that cost more with much less to offer. We rarely travel off the Strip to eat, but from now on Hugo's Cellar will be one of our destinations every time we visit Vegas\r \r Pros: Great food and Service Cons: Downtown and not on the Strip more

Hugo's Cellar lost it's touch 2/4/2009

We have been going to Hugo's Cellar for years. They lost their touch. Food was just okay. Salad use to be tossed right in front of you but the dressing is just poured on. Hostess needs to improve on her people skills. more

rude hostess 1/31/2009

the hostess seats my friend and i (two males) and returns 30 minutes later when were on our salad course to say that my friend is not wearing appropriate attire and offers a stiff white chef's shirt. my friend wore a sleeveless vest w/ jeans and leather shoes. the dress code is ""neat casual"". we saw men w/ t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops. no problem for them, but she suddenly had a problem w/ my friend. i say suddenly because she didn't have a problem when she greeted us and sat us earlier. she personally apologized to me later, upon which i dismissed her attempt as i find her decision-making on this matter to be indecisive and weak. i'll never eat their again, i told at least ten of my friends and will not stay or play at that hotel anymore. more

It's lost it's flair........... 11/25/2008

We?ve been going to Hugo?s for the last 14 yrs for our anniversary, the first couple of years were great but as time progressed the food wasn?t up to par ( very inconsistent) and their prices went up. The steaks were just ok, not something you?d expect at a high end restaurant, the best thing they have going for them is the salad they prepare at the table with your choice of add ons, that?s pretty much it.. \r We skipped this year?s anniversary dinner and went to Outback? believe it or not, they were far better than Hugo?s, so what that it?s not as cozy but I care more about better food and service, I think our trips to Hugo?s are a thing of the past? which frankly I don?t mind?. \r Pros: the rose, and salad Cons: too many to list more

A great place in Vegas for special occasions 5/14/2008

My girlfriend and I had planned a trip to LV. We live in Guadalajara, Mexico. So I had the idea of looking for a nice place to have dinner there, and propose! The place had to be really special. I was lucky to find some reviews of Hugo's Cellar in the internet, and based on the good comments I read I decided it was the right place. I made my reservation for Hugo's Cellar over the internet, and received the confirmation in less than 24 hours.\r \r When we arrived there, we were asked to wait for 15 minutes, since we arrived a little earlier, but we actually were seated in less than 5 minutes. A bouquet of flowers that I had ordered with another company was already on our table.\r \r The service from the start was really good. Two waiters waited on us, one of them was in charge of the bread and the water, and the other was in charge of preparing the salad right next to us, and also the appetizer we ordered, which was the Hugo's Hot Rock Specialty. Both, the salad and the appetizer were very good. The main course was chicken champigion for my girlfriend, and I had the Beef Wellington. Both were excellent. After that, one of the waiters asked us what the special occasion was, and my girlfriend showed him the ring I gave her before we started with the main course. He congratulated us and left, just to come back a couple of minutes later with a delicious chocolate cake, and then the other waiter came with a nice plate of strawberries and figs covered with chocolate, which were beyond delicious. So the service and food were excellent. Too bad that we had to leave early, we wish we had stayed longer, to enjoy the nice atmosphere and maybe try another dessert with a nice coffee. But we will surely come back some time in the future. My girlfriend,- now my fiancee-, was delighted with this restaurant. So was I, it surely met my expectations.\r Pros: Excellent food, very romantic atmosphere more

Great Food, but Service Suspect with a Large Group 9/20/2007

We dined at Hugo's two nights in a row last week, the first time as a couple, the second time with a group of ten. Both times, the food was outstanding; the steaks very tender, the fish fresh and the tableside salad was excellent. The difference between the two nights was the service. When we dined with only two, the service was outstanding. When we were in a large group, the service was less than adequate; water glasses left unfilled, dirty dishes remained on the table, drink orders not taken, excessive waits between courses and we actually had to track someone down to bring the check after a 30 min wait. That being said, the value of this restaurant as a fine dining establishment is unmatched. As opposed to the typical ala carte menu, the meals actually include the salad, a sorbet, vegetables and potato, and a fruit dessert. Overall, I recommend this restaurant for smaller groups. Pros: Value, atmosphere, food Cons: Poor service for large groups more

YouGo to Hugos! 7/16/2007

Old Vegas charm in a Romantic atmosphere, Hugos is a delight. Love the rose for the ladies, and Tableside Salad preparation that goes with the meal. Staff was very knowledgeble and prompt. We had a great time and will return soon. Pros: romantic, roses. Ribeye Cons: downtown location more

most romantic place 6/24/2007

I have been eating here for years it's one of Vegas best kept secrets! The steak melts in your mouth! They greet woman w/roses at the door and the butter is even rose shaped! If you order a salad they make it fresh at your table w/countless salad toppings. I recomend this for a date, family ocassion or just to treat and pamper yourself once in a while! Pros: just simply romantic Cons: none more

THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN VEGAS! 11/15/2006

O.K. I JUST HAVE TO SHARE IT, I ONLY GET TO GO ONCE A YEAR, BUT IT'S WORTH THE 7 HOUR ROUND TRIP! HIDDEN IN A ""CELLAR"" UNDER THE FOUR QUEENS HOTEL (I KNOW, TRUST ME) THIS IS LIKE ANOTHER WORLD, YOU WILL ABSOUTELY FORGET THAT YOU ARE IN A CASINO, MUCH LESS LAS VEGAS!! OLD-OLD SCHOOL SERVICE, GREAT FOOD, GREAT AMBIANCE!! VERY ROMANTIC. FUN FOR HIGH ROLLERS TO THE AVERAGE GUY, THIS IS WHERE THE GHOSTS OF FRANK, DEAN AND SAMMY EAT!! COME HUNGRY!! AND DON'T SKIP THE SALAD BAR ON WHEELS!! SEE YOU THERE THIS NEW YEARS!! Pros: VERY VERY ROMANTIC, OLD SCHOOL RESTAURANT more

below average at best 11/5/2006

was told you have to try hugo's cellar, well i tryed it and wont be back! nothing special about the food, mid grade steak at best, not in the class of any of the prime steakhouses, service was inconsistant, asked for water 3 times before we got it, no real value , it is down town so the prices should be less than on the strip and there not. it is not a horible place, just not a good place ,gourmet dining? i think not! Cons: VALUE, QUALITY, SERVICE more

best cosmo's, steaks and salad 10/19/2006

this is our favorite place to dine when visiting LV. we love the service, food, drinks, and ambivence. Pros: ambience Cons: zero more

Nothing special 8/10/2006

My wife and I went here on our anniversary and were dissappointed. We had been reccommended Hugo's as romantic and fine dining. We arrived dressed for a fine dining establishment and found many patrons in shorts and baseball caps. It was extremelyy loud, not exactly what I call romantic either. When my wife asked if it was always that loud, they did move us to a better table in the corner. After dinner they asked us if we wanted cappacino or expresso, then came back and said machine was out of order. The food was pretty good and overall service was not that bad. I think had it not been a special occassion and we had not been so overdressed we would have enjoyed it more. Pros: good food, classic menu Cons: underdressed patrons, loud more

Excellent ambiance 7/30/2006

If you want a very romantic, quiet dinner, this is the place to go. The staff goes out of their way to make you happy. The food is very good, has a variety of prices,,,some can be high but being so comfortable you probably won't mind. You are not rushed, if your table isnt ready when you arrive, you can sit at the bar, enjoy some cheese and crackers or make your way to a table located in the front of the restaurant and sit and relax with your drinks. I would definately recommend having reservations, and not trying to just walk in and be seated. \r We go here everytime we are in Vegas and its never disappointed us. So if you find yourself Downtown, enjoying Freemont Street, make a point to go into the Four Queens Hotel and Casino and check out Hugos or make a reservation for another night!\r more

Annual Trip 5/6/2004

We have a girls' group from Cocoa Beach, Florida that goes on an annual gambling trip. Last year we went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Four Queens. I had never heard of Hugo's Cellar, but had not been to Las Vegas in over 17 years and I was a teenager then. My experience with this restaurant was wonderful! I cannot even describe how impeccable the service was, how friendly and helpful the sommelier and waiter were. The food was excellent but the salad was incredible (we vowed to come back for the salad only because the salad was enough for a meal). We are coming back in August and cannot wait! It is expensive, but it is classified as a special occasion restaurant and it is perfect for that. Pros: Service, Food, Wine Cons: , prior reservations more

REALLY WENT... 7/24/2003

WE WERE IN VEGAS FOR OUR WEDDING ON JULY 13, 2003 AND ATE AT HUGO'S. IT WAS EVERYTHING THAT THE REVIEWS SAID. THEY HAD IMPECCABLE SERVICE, A WONDERFULLY ROMANTIC SETTING, REASONABLE PRICES, AND THE QUALITY OF FOOD WAS TOTALLY ON THE MARK. IT IS TRULY A VEGAS SECRET. Pros: FOOD, ATMOSPHERE, SERVICE more

Too noisey! 6/20/2003

We recently dined at Hugo's after selecting it from a search of romantic dining. It was loud and over priced. Service was very good and seating was as reserved. Not sure how it made the romantic list. Pros: Great service Cons: High noise level, expensive, Crowded more
