WEDDING FUNCTION DISAPPOINTMENT more

Paradise lost 10/28/2011

We went to the Hilltop after a hiatus. My wife says one year. I thought that it was two. Regardless of the duration, something very bad happened in the interim. While the waitress was pleasant and efficient, the food was terrible. I order a medium rare ribeye and received an unidentifiable piece of meat that was overcooked and tasteless. My wife had baked stuffed haddock. Dry and tasteless as well. About the only thing that was good was the baked potato. I am old enough to recall the Hilltop when you waited for over an hour to get in and the wait was worth it. Great steaks at a good value. Now, poor steaks at $20 plus. No restaurant can have a good run forever. The HIlltop is clearly on the decline. more

A steakhouse that can't cook steak! 3/4/2011

Went there Feb 2011. Told us a 30 minute wait but winded up being 45. Service was slow once seated. Went for a good steak but only got one, the ribeye. The prime rib was cold and barely cooked to rare. Had little if any taste to it. The mixed grill was awful. The pork and chicken were dry and tough and the sirloin tips were burned on the outside and raw on the inside. On the plus side, the hamburger was good. The sides and salad were fair to good. Pointed out the shortcomings of the mixed grill and only got a blank stare from the waitress. more

This place is NO GOOD! 7/10/2010

While on vacation June 2010, friends wanted to try this place so we did. Never again, service slow, carpet dirty, table sticky!!! I ordered steak over cooked, tasteless. Never again! What a waste of $$. Shame on your Food Network for recommending such a disappointing place to eat. Pros: Was seen on Food Network??? Cons: overcook meat, poor quality more

LOOKS THE SAME BUT IT ISN'T 5/21/2009

IN MARCH 2009 I WENT TO THIS RESTAURANT PUCHASED THE BONE-IN SIRLION. I ORDERED IT MEDIUM. IT CAME MEDIUM THE PIECE OF STEAK I RECEIVED HAD FAT THROUGHOUT IT. THE OUTSIDE OF THE STEAK WAS CHARCOAL BURNT AND THE STEAK WAS TASTELESS.I SENT IT BACK AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD GIVE ME A BETTER QUALITY CUT Pros: MEMORIES OF WHAT THE STEAK USED TO TASTE LIKE Cons: POOR QUALITY TASTELESS STEAK more

Forget about it. 3/19/2009

The Hilltop has been out of the control of the originally family twice, this being the second and probably last time time. The quality has plummeted both times. The quality is so bad now I doubt the corporation running it even cares. Look for the prime real estate it occupies on Route 1 to be a hotel or Mall in a few years. Pros: Parking, generally fast service Cons: food quality more

don't eat here evwr 3/5/2009

Meat was good. Side dishes were very unappetizing. Our mashed potatoes were soupy and bland just like our server more

AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! 2/15/2009

Went to the Hilltop on 2/14/09. I had been there about 5 years ago and had a bad experience (overcook meat, poor quality), but thought I would give it a second chance. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Cons: Poor service, poor quality more

Eat at your own risk 5/16/2007

Visited the resturant on May 13,2007. Ordered steak tips and there was a little crawly thing about an inch and a half long with lots of legs, cooked into our food. If you do decide to eat there after this review I have one word for you CRUNCH. (they do not allow you to enter the word BAGS with a ""U"") Cons: small things with lots of legs more

Not what it used to be and doesnt live up to the hype. . . 3/14/2007

I hadnt been to the Hilltop in years until last night. The last time I was there I may have possibly been eating off of the childrens menu so it could be as far back as about 15-20 years but I do remember good food and long lines neither of which were present this visit. My girlfriends father was in town from Florida on business and was told repeatedly by colleagues that he had to go to the Hilltop (I was skeptical due to recent reviews from family and friends) so we met him there for dinner. Yes, it was easy to park, we were seated immediately and the service was good though I guess it would be hard to be otherwise consdering we seemed to have two servers and we were asked everything and offered everything twice (which by the end of the meal was becoming annoying, we'd order desert and then the other waitress would ask if we wanted desert!). The three of us ordered steak, I had the sirloin tips and my girlfriend and her father ordered filets. None of us were impressed. The salads were sizeable but boring (basically just lettuce and onion). One of the filets was ordered well done and it arrived at the table rarer than my medium steak tips (which I ordered that way expecting them to actually be cooked medium rare based on the reviews I read and that was what I got so it worked out well for me). My tips were cooked the way I wanted them but the onions and peppers were overcooked and mushy. The rice pilaf was more like wild rice or long grain rice than pilaf and was very dry, I took one bite and was done with it. Even the quality of the steaks was not up to par, I could have cooked them better at home on the grill and could have gotten the same quality (or better) meat at the supermarket. Both of the filets were fatty and somewhat chewy, a far cry from what a filet should be and my steak tips were average at best, chewy and dry. . . I will not be retuning to the Hilltop nor will I recommend it to anyone! Pros: parking and ability to accomodate large groups (its huge!) Cons: the food more

Not Anymore ! 10/22/2006

This place has really gone downhill !! The quality of the food has really gone down, while the prices have gone way up !! We used to go here once a week. We haden't been here for a couple of months due to illness, and when we went back, YUCK ! We won't go back there again. It's to bad, because we used to really enjoy it there. Pros: Parking !!!! Cons: everything from the food and prices to the waitresses ! more

Looks can be deceiving 1/17/2006

You might see long lines when you you drive by one of their restaurants, and upon waiting in one those lines (sometimes for up to an hour), you will find that the steaks are no better than one you could have grilled in your back yard in half the time, and for more than half the price. While the food there is not at all bad, I just find it hard to wait so long for something I could have done just as well myself. Save your time and buy a nice cut from their butcher shop (which is very good, and had an ecellent selection), fire up your grill, and grab a cold one. Pros: Butcher shop Cons: Long lines more

horrible 10/18/2005

this place is not the same as it was before the food is horrible and it is not worth going to. They need to something to get themselves back to the status of best steakhouse because right now i would not even recoomend my worst enemy to go there that is how bad it is. more

It's back 10/14/2005

Well it's been two years since I was at Hilltop so I thought I'd give it another try and I'm very glad that I did. I am pleased to report that the filets were generous and excellent as was the service. The three of us were very satisfied with our meals and the bill came to only $85 including drinks. I have been a Hilltop patron for over 30 years but have avoided it the past couple of years because they lost their way but I can say that they are back, at least at my last visit they were. So if you've enjoyed Hilltop in the past but have been staying away, I recommend you go back. If you've never been, then go. The menu is basic but if you want a really good steak without paying the astronomical prices of the high end Boston steak houses, Hilltop is excellent value, once again. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

Good food. 10/12/2005

UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!! 8/15/2005

I HAD A WEDDING FUNCTION AT THE HILLTOP STEAK HOUSE LAST OCTOBER. IT WAS AN APPROXIMATE PARTY OF 120 PEOPLE. ""EVERYTHING"" WAS SUPERB. THE COORDINATOR, FOOD, DRINKS, CAKE, HOUSE DJ. I GO SO MUCH MORE THAN I PAID FOR. IT VARIED IN AGE FROM 2 YEARS OLD TO 87 YEARS OLD AND EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME. I COULD NOT HAVE HAD A BETTER DAY!!! Pros: PRICING--A+, SERVICE--A+, COMPLETE PACKAGE--A+ more

Sad 6/6/2005

The Hilltop used to be the place to go. The line was horrendously long, but only added to the whole expreience and the food was worth the wait. I have gone back twice in the last couple years as recently as Friday night. I was so sad, the Filet Mignon was disgusting. It had no flavor, was charcoal burnt on the outside and over done on the ends. The middle, although cooked rare as was ordered, was tasteless. When my husband and I were dating we would go with friends on a Friday night, each order steak and split the Lobster Pie. Well now this ""family"" restaurant charges $40 for a very small lobster pie. I will never go there again. Once again, SAD!!!! Cons: Food, Price more
