Best

Good lunch deals, big portions, and many sides come with it. Been going here for years. Pros: Parking

Worst

Please! RedBones in Somerville. The Hard Cover in Saugus. The OUT BACK Steak house even, but not the HillTop they don't rate for anything except the biggest steak house in town. ...

Not like it was 6/5/2005

This hilltop is a far cry in which it was before... they have a hard time getting a well done pc of meat to a burned pc of meat.... I order med to well on my tips and it always comes bacl all most raw... alot of red... plus when they take the meat back they never give you a new potato... more

Hilltop Steakhouse 7/18/2004

This is the worst restaurant in the city. The steak is tasteless and tough, the ""vegetables"" are vegall from a can, a dried up potato and iceberg lettuce drowned in dressing. Even the drinks are bad, unless it is their way of making the food taste better to put a splash of soda into a glass of vodka so you will be slightly numb when biting into your horrible meal. I do think the Plastic Cows would taste better. Pros: parking, chairs, tables more

Hilltop is HORRIBLE 7/18/2004

This USED to be THE place to go for a great steak. That is no longer true. Anyone who voted this place a 10 has either never HAD a great steak or is simply waxing nostalgic to the Hilltops heyday. For a REALLY REALLY great steak (tho' pricey) try MORTON'S on Boylston St in Boston Pros: none, none, none Cons: , quality was horrible, almost inedible more

This place is terrible 6/16/2004

Years ago this was the place to go. Things change with the times and some do not. The Hill Top Steak House is one that has not changed with the times. If you like to be pushed out of your table when you finish the last bite of your tough steak like someone dinning at Applebee's then you are in the right place. But if you like to dine, have great conversation with friends and family, go elsewhere. Boston has many great restaurants, this is not one of them. Pros: inexpensive, big tables, big portions Cons: , rude servers, long wait time more

Best of The Best Venues! 6/3/2004

Frank Giuffrida, the late owner, knew what he was doing when he opened ""The Hilltop SteakHouse,"" in Saugus, MA, ideally located on Route 1 South. Over the years, this famous landmark, has attracted droves of hungry visitors to its tastefully appointed dining and function rooms. I have been a steady customer to this wholesome American-Style eating establishment for many years, and I have never been disappointed with either the menu, service, quality or value of the food. The ambience of this fine restaurant is American Western, and BOTH Cowboys and Native American Indians co-exist beautifully. Once you've tried this 'SteakHouse' you won't want to try any other. And, the 'Butcher Shop' offers the same quality meats and assorted groceries at reasonable prices you can expect at such a class-act operation. Pros: Quality Food, Inexpensive, Handicap Accessible more

ok 3/25/2004

The food was ok, the service was good, but the ROLLS were to die for. The hilltop has the best rolls of any restaurant ever created. I ate so many that i didn't even care that my food was average. I RECOMMEND THE HILLTOP ROLLS!!!!!!!!! Pros: ROLLLS, ROLLLLS, ROLLLLS more

jsternh 3/11/2004

Over rated. Good meat, lousy everthing else. How you can you rate a restaurant good when everything they do is bad exept one? Its like being in a Chicago stock yard. Herd 'em in, herd 'em out. Here's a nice piece of meat, now get out of here. Ask to see the wine list, oops there it is on the back of the menu. Something with a cork? Not here. If this is Boston's best, Boston has bad steak houses. more

Hilltop Steakhouse 3/11/2004

While I will agree that the food is better than average, I must say that the service is not a pleasure. It has nothing to do with the waitresses or waiters (though I don't think I have ever encountered a waiter) abilities or attitude. It more has to do with their conditioning to move you quickly like cattle waiting to be slaughtered. It is anything but relaxing. I am sorry that I missed the chance to vote on the best steakhouses in the Boston area, because The Newbridge Cafe in Chelsea would definitely be a pick of mine. Pros: good food, good parking, reasonably priced more

Great experience 3/11/2004

This is a restaurant for folks who appreciate fresh, simlpy prepared food. The steaks are incomparable and the accompaning veges and/or salad fresh and wholesome. Huge portions let you re-experience the meal for lunch or dinner the following day. Service is pleasant and efficient - a Massachusetts landmark and a must for first time visitors. A satisified repeat visitor Pros: fresh, cooked to order, great value more

Hilltop Steakhouse 3/7/2004

I have no idea how this got a #1 rating. The food at this place is horrid. The steaks taste like the beef came from a sick herd of cattle.I have tried over and over to like this place but my opinion stays the same or gets worse each time.If you are looking for a good steak experience this is not the place to find it.The food is the worst. more

Hilltop 3/7/2004

I've been across the country and I have never found the same (or better) food quality or value as I have found at the Hilltop. I have been going there for over thirty years and always make it a point to go there when I come back to town. NY Steak, medium rare, yes! Pros: excellent quality, good portions, great prices more

Best Steaks in The Country 3/7/2004

You just cannot find better steak. You can't get better steak in Kansas City, Chicago, New York, Houston or Denver. This is just the place for big time steak lovers. Everybody knows so plan your trip to Hilltop around the crowds. Saugus is still the best location but Braintree is good too. Pros: steak, chops, service Cons: crowds more

been anyplace else? 12/18/2003

Anyone who rated this as the top steakhouse should visit some of the editor's picks - the food and service (at editor's pics) makes Hilltop look like McDonald's - tasty, but, nothing special except the cafeteria-like wait more

Steaks, and more 5/29/2003

If you like steak, they can make it anyway you want it. The service is great but must say the lines are long, especially Friday and Saturday nights. Must say that their soup tastes like canned soup instead of homemaid. But everything else was good. more

Hilltop Steak House 5/15/2003

I grew up going to the Hilltop.....and now make a point of getting there whenever I am in the Boston area. I have always had great meals and good service. more

Year's of great eats 5/15/2003

Been going there for 40 years. My parents brought me there when I was 8 years old. They still go there and now I bring my family there. Never had a bad meal. Great steaks at it's best. more

Not the Same... 5/15/2003

My parents used to bring me to the Hilltop when I was a child. I loved it and so did everyone else it seemed. Lines used to snake around the long corridor out front. Not anymore. The decor has not been updated in years, there are waitresses there from 1970 something (who have been come bitter may I add), and the food isn't as high quality as it used to be. It's just not the same!! There are better steakhouses elsewhere!! Pros: Good Mash Potatoes, Lunch Specials Cons: Food Not Good Quality, Rude Waitstaff more

History is all it has 2/21/2003

The cows in the front in the restaurant must taste better than what was served to me! The reasonable prices are outweighed by the terrible taste of the food! more

not flashy but great 1/13/2003

as a frequent business traveller to boston, we always make the effort to get a great steak from hilltop. Pros: restaurant is huge, short waits, not for the foofy more

Yee Hah! 1/13/2003

You feel like you are on display with the long waits and then the herding in to the special rooms. But I have driven 2 hours just to eat there then wait an hour or more once there. I think the food is very good. more
