Staff is rude 4/12/2017

The shampoo girl is rude and doesn't know what she is doing. It's as though she is practicing on a doll head with all the pulling, tugging and improper techniques. On average you will be there 4-5 hours so bring something to occupy your time. Lastly their prices are high, $55 Is the base price for a simple was , press & curl. They charge $5 extra if you have a child with you that isn't being serviced, $8 for dandruff shampoo, $5 To scratch your scalp , and $15 for a trim. The prices are high but the service lacks. I love my hair 10/30/2013

Since I've been coming to ms Harlem my hair has grown soooo much it's really healthy and is always flowing I get lots of compliments on how good my hair looks . Harlem is a really professional and wonderful place , you will never leave unsatisfied. Harlem is the best place to go !!!! more

"what a difference a couple months can make" 10/4/2013

My daughter has always had long, thick healthy hair up to a year or so ago when she began to take swimming lessons. To my surprise, her new hobby lead to my daughter's hair becoming very damaged due to the chlorine.The chlorine acted like a chemical on my daughters hair and it left her hair dry and brittled. I began to send my daughter to Harlem's and Sheana, her stylist, took good care of her and the results were phenomenal. Within a couple of months my daughter hair has come back to life with shine, lenghth and thickness. The compliments she receives are endless and I owe it all to Harlem's hair salon for their expertise in healthy haircare. Me and my daughter are very pleased with our hair! more

I've been going to Harlem's for my hair care for over 3yrs now and my experience has been nothing but professional. Harlem is my stylist and she has been very generous with providing insightful advice on the proper care of your hair. Harlem's promotes healthy hair and how to maintain it. It is such a rewarding feeling to have found a salon and stylist who genuinely cares about the health and growth of your hair. I recommend Harlem's hair salon to anyone because the stylists are very passionate about haircare and you will be very pleased with your results. more

I worked for Harlem!! 7/2/2012

I worked for Harlem a few years back b4 she moved to her new building!! She is ride and nasty.. I don't know the who she has there now but she needs to fix her attitude!!! Yes she does talk behind peoples backs... Everybody gets the same style a head full of curls and a wrap!!! more

Love this Shop!! 6/14/2012

Harlem is the owner and my stylist. I have been going to this shop since June, 2005. Harlem was not my first stylist, but I went from chair to chair until I ended up with Harlem. She's always been pleasant, funny, friendly and honest. I no longer use or need a relaxer! My hair is long and healthy. Ive read other reviews, some not very nice; but I will say, I have never personally experienced any of the behavior described. I have seen Harlem greet customers, even those who are not her clients. I love the shop and I love my stylist more

Best Hair Care Salon in the Tri-Sate 1/17/2012

I have been going to Harlem's for 10 years and I know for a fact that every time I have gone I have been more than satisfied. They are always coming up with new and healthy ways to care for your hair. The products are great and the technique is even better. I'm going to send my kids and my kids, kids there because i trust them with my hair. more

Good: They took good care with my hair although it only last two days and is on the dry side.. Bad: Everyone gets the same two hair styles but not everyone can wear those two styles. I don't want to be a clone.. Improvements: Harlem doesn't really engage their customers. They shove you in the basement and call for you by intercom when its your turn. Other than asking for your receipt to see what services your getting, no one talks to you.. Other: The receptionist seems a bit out of place likes shes lost. On my first visit she was in her cubicle asleep and I had to wake her to be serviced.. more

Very happy 8/19/2011

i wanted to try a new salon and had heard mixed reviews about harlem's, mostly that it takes forever to get in the stylist chair, I finally decided to make an appointment at the urging of my co-worker, her hair is always beautiful and she told me Asia does her hair, well I went and tried it out, while I will admit the prepping process make take a little while but once I was blow dried I got right in her chair, I have been to Asia several times now and I never have a long wait, she is very fast without me feeling rushed and more importantly my hair is always beautiful. They have a waiting area down stairs with a big tv and couches and magazine to keep you occupied. Also ask for Andre the shampoo assistant, he was great with the shampoo and took his time. more

I was a customer for years at harlems and I liked the way my hair was done and it was always healthy. In 2009 my hair started falling out and I had somebody at another salon trim my hair because I was out of town and couldnt get to harlems. When I returned to harlems and told them what happened my stylist acted like she understood what was going on, but I heard her talking about me behind my back. I felt awful! Why couldn't she just talk to me instead of gossiping about the state of my hair to somebody else? After that I never returned. They called me several times to setup appointments but i told them i was in braids or something. I should have told them the truth because the stylist am talking about is very rude and i have seen her get nasty with a lot of her clients. Harlems is a good salon, you just have to get the right stylist. more

Great shop! 10/31/2010

I don't know if they read the reviews for people are just extra, but I went to harlems on saturday and my hair and experience were wonderful! shena washed my hair and yes she is a little slow but she never pulled, snaged or hurt my head, the shop is neat and clean and they have a seperate area for the customers to sit and be called to the chair, asia did my hair and she was very funny and made me feel like I had been coming to the salon for years, my hair was great, very bouncy, and she trimmed my ends and did not cut me bald! she talked me thru my trim and also showed me in the mirror her steps and why she did what she did, will be back in 2 weeks more

Disrespect and inappropriateness 9/20/2010

Harlem and Asia need’s to learn how to be more professional. I was waiting to get my hair and when an older woman confronted Asia about her inappropriateness towards her and other customer. Asia became very disrespectful to the customer. Harlem tried to defend Asia saying that she wasn’t talking about the women. But in fact both of them were talking about their customer including that women, the other hair stylist that work in the shop and her male employee’s. I was very surprised at Harlem I thought the shop was a little up scaled but it not it’s GETTO as HELL. more

Not the greatest, not the worst 7/15/2008

Overall A good shop. I came out of braids and went straight to Jennifer and when she left the shop, I followed her. I did not care for the other rude workers, especially the owner's flunkie. The flunkie, especially, had no work ethic as she would eat food while doing hair and is as rude as they come. Be assured that she will talk about you the moment you leave her chair. The owner does a great job with hair, but does play favorites with her customers. How can you play favorites with those who allow you to pay your bills and eat? The aesthetic atmosphere is great though and it is air conditioned in the summer. I liked the products and felt that the prices were reasonable. However, go between Tuesday and Thursday-- Saturdays and Sundays are too booked and you will spend your time waiting with 7 heads in front of you. With this said, be sure to make an appointment at all costs, it will make it much easier for you. I liked my very professional stylist much more than the shop it's self. more

I have to agree with Charlissa, Jennifer is THE BEST !!!! She did my hair two weeks ago and I am very picky and I have not one single complaint. I wasn't sure what to expect because I had read mixed reviews on a few different sites, but I was not only surprised but will be a repeat customer. As long as Jennifer is there !!! more

Despite sunny j's experience at Harlem's I believe some of the stylist there can do hair you just have to know who to go to. I prefer Jennifer because she is awesome with hair and knows what your hair needs. The owner should pick her workers more carefully and I believe the shampoo girls should all be certified in hair care as well. more

Not good for everyones hair!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/7/2006

I had my hair done at harlems and it wasn't a good experience. Besides the fact that the stylist were rude and talking about there customers behind there back, they use the same products on everyones hair, which is not good because everyones hair is diffrent and has diffrent needs. My hair just came out of braids and was very damaged and there treatments were no help what so ever. I left only to hair frizzy hair in an hour. $50.00 down the drain............ more
