Editorial review from Citysearch 10/3/2012

Used to be a stand up joint. Service was excellent. Food was dismal. Sent the wings were sent back and they were gracious about taking them off the tab. I should have done the same w/the crab melt- which was a cup of mayo w/some things scattered in it. Hit briefly w/heat, cold in middle. Charcuterie plate meats w/gristle- said to be made in house. With all the fantastic meats in Portland- dont screw around trying to make your own. \r This is the third time I've given them 'another try'. Ya cant get me to go back again. more

Huevos Rancheros Anyone? 2/26/2012

With friends in town and no urge to cook breakfast, we were looking for a new breakfast spot without a long wait and came across Hall Street Grill. Being a little skeptical, that there was no wait at all, we were pleasantly surprised by their brunch menu. Everything from Huevos Rancheros to a Chicken Cobb Sandwich, the meal and experience is definitely worth checking out. more

good but not great 4/29/2011

I decided to spend a little of extra money on a nice lunch with some business partners (wanted to impress) The lunch was good but not great, and the place was full of elderly women (very odd) after looking at the menu it quickly lead to a lot of jokes. I became very ill that night, my stomach twist at the thought of eating here again. I figured 3 things, 1) One of the women poison or cursed the food (probably deserve it) 2) I got some tropical flu from some one. 3) the food was prepared incorrectly. Despite my survival instinct i still WANT to eat here again one day so it gets 3 stars (yep, it's good). more

Pretty Good - But a notch below past experiences 11/19/2010

Took my girlfriend to Hall Street last night because she said she was in the mood for a ""Great Steak Restaurant""....\r \r Typically Hall Street would be a Great choice. I hadnt been here in over a year, but every time I've been here in the past has provided knockout service and food.....I had high expectations.\r \r The Service we received was good (no complaints there), but the Steaks were quite average.\r \r My girlfriend had the Ribeye special which was good but far from Exceptional.\r \r I had the Grilled Prime Rib which was also pretty good, but the Au Jus was extremely salty (far more so than typical) and the Prime Rib was completely overwhelmed with black pepper (Weird).\r \r Not bad enough to complain about, but certainly far below my expectation for what has, historically, been an exceptional establishment....\r \r \r more

Going downhill 7/30/2010

We have been long time patrons and have enjoyed the experience from the food to the service. However, this evening was different and disappointing. We had the grill steak which was excellent as usual but the positive review ends there. Two of our previous favorites have been changed and not for the better, specifically the sole and the beet salad. Moreover, the Osso bucco was a fantastic option but hasn't been seen for at least a year. Furthermore, the service was a notch below its typically high level. We'll try again but our patronage may soon be found elsewhere if things don't improve. Pros: Former Entrees Cons: New Entrees more

Horrible! 4/21/2010

The service was dismissive and rude, the food isn't what it used to be. I heard that the old chef left, seems like everything I loved about Hall Street left with him. Server seemed annoyed by every request and our food took a very long time to arrive. Don't let your night out be ruin here. Pros: Cant think of one Cons: Food, service, everything more

Beware of Unruly Children 2/15/2010

On February 13 I was going to celebrate my birthday along with Valentine's Day at the Hall Street Grill, with my husband. We asked to be seated in the bar because we did not have reservations. I asked the hostess to NOT seat us at a high table because I have MS. That is exactly where they seated us! We had to endure two girls, under 10 years old, plus their parents who where texting and viewing the internet through the whole dinner. The girls were flipping upside down, complaining, putting their feet on the table, kicking me across the seat and putting their hands on our table. One little girl fell out of the high seat, cracked her head on our table and landed upside down on the floor. Crying ensued! The mother kept calling her daughter ""stupid"" while she peered into her Blackberry screen oblivious to what her children were doing! Lisa, the Manager said she was sorry but she had to seat the children in the bar as per the parents request. Good judgment on the management part would have been to place them at a standard height table AWAY from other quiet adult customers! My husband's clam chowder had no clams in it and the waitress said she would take it off the bill. That didn't happen! The whole experience ruined my birthday and Valentine's dinner! Pros: Delicious Food Cons: Poor Service, too expensive and too noisy more

terrible service 8/18/2009

I had a terrible experience this last saturday night. The service was bad and the management was absent. I will not be returning if that is how they run their business. Pros: food is really good Cons: service and management terrible more

It is ""just very average in too many ways 3/5/2009

Pretty average dishes at a very overpriced rate. Glad they do coupn and two for one cards or we'd skip it for good. Menu is small, boring and has not changed much in 3 years - never a special more

Great food but poor quantity!!! 1/10/2009

My wife and I had a nice dinner here with friends- we each had a beer and she had the quinoa and I had a pasta. I couldn't believe the amount of food we received. After spending $47 (with tip) I SHOULD leave full! The presentation was nice, and it tasted great, but the small portion was not worth $16.95 for my pasta, or her dish. We asked for more bread but the waiter forgot to bring it to us. \r \r We both left still hungry but unwilling to pay more. For half the price I could have gone to Olive Garden nearby and left stuffed. \r \r In this economy when we don't go out as much as we used to, it's unfortunate to see a restaurant profitting or 'getting by' for skimping. There is nothing more annoying then leaving a restaurant still hungry, and feeling taken advantage of!!! Pros: Tasted Good Cons: Not enough food more

Taken Away 10/11/2008

My husband and I decided to splurge and go out for dinner this last friday night. With all that is going on in the world and here in the states we wanted to be taken away from the ""real"" world just for a night. We could not have picked a better place to dine than Hall Street Grill. We have dined there many times before and felt that they would meet our expectations and they surpassed them on this occassion. We were taken back a bit by the fact that there was a wait, but we wanted to have a drink first anyway. The hostess was very nice but her wait time was not accurate. We had to wait longer than the time qouted. Which we were fine with us since our cocktail waitress was so sweet and conversational. When we were seated in the dining room we were delighted to discover some new menu options. None of our favorites were gone but there were some great sounding new items that we had to decide over. I decided to try the Pork. Was that a great delight to my taste buds. The pork was perfectly cooked and the seasonings were well balanced. Something new for me was the spetzel. What an innovative idea to round out the plate. My husband was also delighted with his choice although he was not as daring as me and went with his favorite dish. The restaurant was so warm and friendly with the staff buzzing around with smiles. The experience was refreshing and exactly what we were looking for. We highly recommend Hall Street to anyone wanting to be taken away for a few hours. Pros: The staff, decor, and food is tops Cons: You have to make a reservation or expect to wait longer than you are told you will more

HORRIBLE management with no idea what customer service is 9/1/2008

Hall Street will be out of business soon with management staff like we experienced tonight. He has no idea what customer service is. Pros: nice hostesses and some friendly waitresses Cons: Manager is a fool and will ruin Hall Street if it isnt too late to be saved. more

Disappointing 8/18/2008

We took out of town guests to Hall Street on Friday night and was disappointed in the service and quality. We had reservations and were promptly seated. It was a 100 degree day outside and their a/c wasn't keeping up. Our booth had to be 85 degrees. My drink was frequently empty (I only got two drinks in 1.5 hours of dining). I ordered three different drinks for which they didn't have the alcohol I called. One of our guests actually sent his fish dish back as dry and overcooked. I ordered the salmon which arrived warm, but not hot. The appetizers were small and we should have been told that 2 appetizers were not going to go very far for six guests. One expects more when going to a high-end restaurant.\r \r The bread pudding was a tasty dessert. Pros: Bread pudding Cons: Service, food, more

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!! 6/23/2008

The worst service ever... After our server gave us our drinks, we were COMPLETELY ignored by everyone working there for 35 minutes. NO ONE checked on us. The menu looked good, but we never had the chance to order anything. When we gave up and wanted to leave, someone had to track our server down, and she had to ask us where we had been sitting. We were not tucked away somewhere, and there were four of us. Terrible. And to make it worse, this was a late Father's Day treat for my Dad. more

Not worth the money! 6/20/2008

Dated decor, mediocre food, inattentive service and high prices. Food was cold and overcooked, the pasta tasted old, our waiter ignored us. Disappointing! Pros: Close to home Cons: The food and service more

Fake Upscale 6/11/2008

Overpriced and disappointing.\r \r I'm typically pretty easy-going about service, food, etc. but we spent $160 and basically left disappointed.\r \r My husband and I recently had dinner at Hall Street to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere is pretty intimate even with people all around you.\r \r Staff seemed tense, which was kind of weird.\r \r The waitperson didn't mention specials, soup of the day and wasn't very familiar with the menu, food or wines.\r \r They completely forgot to deliver our appetizers. \r \r There were very long delays on refilling our beverages which doesn't typically happen in even the most basic restaurants.\r \r Our food arrived cold. My entree (fish) was a poor combination of flavors and overcooked while my husband's entree (scallops) tasted bland and was seriously undercooked.. Their glasses of water had a chlorine aftertaste. \r \r The staff rarely checked on us; granted, the restaurant was busy but is that really an excuse?\r \r I've had much better meals at much lower prices. \r \r It's a shame. I had high hopes. Pros: The company I was with Cons: Price, service and quality. more

great food, friendly service 4/26/2008

My husband and I rarely get to have a date night or a restaurant that doesn't have a play place for our kids. When we decided to go out tonight. I search almost endlessly for a nice steak house. We found one in the Hall Street Grill. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation (highly recommended). We were immediately given the choice to sit outside or in. We chose outside after all it was a rare blue sky day. We were greeted by our very nice waitress Amy. It did take awhile for the service, but Amy explained why. We are patient people so it was no problem and well worth the wait, and a chance for uninterrupted conversation (a rarity for parents). The food was outstanding. The price is high so if your on a budget then keep that in mind. It was 102.00 with tip for us. But again well worth the price. We will be back, but will have to wait for a special occasion. Please consider this place for your next dinner out. And try the buffalo flank steak. Pros: fantastic food friendly service. We will visit again for sure!! Cons: service is a little slow so be patient, and price is a bit high for those on a budget more

Best Business Lunch 1/17/2008

I am new to the Beaverton area. I was having lunch with a new client, and they reccomended Hall Street Grill. I was expecting it to be pub-like, but what we got was much more. The host at the front desk was accomodating to our need for a large table to spread work out on, even without reservations and what seemed to be a full restaurant, and our server was informative and very friendly. Everyone seemed right on the ball, and the food was amazing! We both had the special. On our way out, about 4 people thanked us for coming in. We will be back. more

Great fries! 1/5/2008

Late lunch on a Saturday afternoon was delightful in the quiet bar area. Wild salmon burger and fish and chips were freshly done. They substituted side dishes readily. Appreciate the effort to buy local products. French fries were superb! Only negative is the carmelized onion butter. It's too sweet and is off-putting with the olive artisan bread. We'll go back when the weather's better to dine outside. more

What a place 10/14/2007

It was my husband?s birthday and he wanted a special treat. Hall Street Grill was the answer. It was our first visit. We read the reviews on City search and figured we will give it a shot. Great food and service. We started with a drink in the bar and finished the evening with Donna (our server). What a great experience. Excellent food, perfect service and fun energetic place. Seems like every one is having fun. We did not want to leave but they had to close for the day, we will defiantly be back for Monday night wine discount (50% off according to Donna). more
