Consistently excellent food --sometimes inconsistent service 9/12/2007

I have been going to Hall Street for as long as it has been in existence, which I think is over 20 years!! I can honestly say that I've NEVER had a bad meal there. On occassion, the service has been rather slow, but usually is commensurate with how busy they are---if you go on a wk. end , or Friday night , you are going to wait--even with reservations (which I would ALWAYS recommend here. This you will find AT ANY good popular place--which this is !! My complaint --when lunching with a friend yesterday{ 9/11/07} , was that at the end of our meal, we felt like we were being ""hounded"" by our server to pay the tab, and be on our way.!! This was a week-day afternoon, and they were not particularly busy. I did not like this, and wrote a ""comment card"" stating such and mailed it to the GM. This waiter was otherwise faultless. Pros: excellent food nice atmosphere, friendly staff , good parking Cons: inconsistent service depending on your server, cocktails excellent but overpriced more

Too Expensive; Poor customer service 9/8/2007

My husband and I went on Saturday night and found that the restaurant was not too busy (we didn't need our reservation). We were seated promptly and started looking over the tantalizing menu. There were many delicious options, however the price seemed a bit high. The meals did not come with starter salads, but our waitress made it sound like the small $7.50 salads were included (we were a bit surprised when we got the check). I had the special which was jumbo scallops with pollenta and a yellow tomato rellish for $25. While the meal that I received was good, I only received three regular sized scallops. The portions of our meals were small, but filling. After we received our meals we saw our waitress one more time and that was it. She went to refill my diet coke and never remembered to come back. The wait staff, for the most part, seemed too young and inexperienced to be serving food that cost $20+ per plate. Pros: Ambience, food Cons: Poor service, high prices more

Delicious!!! 5/13/2007

Mothers Day Brunch at Hall St Grill was fantastic. Our server was attentive and pleasant but the real star was the food! The menu was varied, creative, and very reasonably priced. I wish the menu had included a listing of brunch drinks, if it had I probably would have ordered something other than coffee. \r \r After we ordered we perused the sumptuous buffet that offered everything from fresh fruit, orzo salad, and breakfast breads to an unusual yet delectable chilled strawberry soup. Instead of the buffet being picked over, as can usually be the case when a restaurant is as busy as they were, it was well tended to by two cheery and courteous cooks. Our entree?s arrived and they were brilliant. The strata was wonderful, the grit cakes with crab salsa scrumptious, and the frittata fluffily and tender. \r \r I have enjoyed Hall St. for quite some time and the food is better now then it has ever been. The happy hour is great, they have expanded both the food and drink menu so it is even better then ever. The lunch and dinner menus have some new additions that are worth a try too. It is so refreshing to find a place that keeps its menu updated with imaginative and uncommon items. I would have sent my comments to the management but we didn?t see comment cards anywhere, they would be a good addition. Pros: Great Food, something for everybody Cons: Wines by the glass not to enticing but some good wines by the bottle more

Lame, Lame, LAME! 5/11/2007

I didn't do my usual Citysearch scan of reviews on this restaurant before I went and wish I did. We recently took our out-of-town guests there and we very disappointed. We all came from Scottsdale Arizona where, I admit we have been spoiled with restaruants. that is why we wanted to take them to what we read was ""the best restaurant in Beaverton if not all of Portland."" Now that I have read the reviews I see that one either loves this place or hates it. doesn't seem to be an in between. Well, if you like a stinky, old, overpriced dive that should have been renovated 10 years ago and serves a an overcooked gristle sandwich and calls it prime rib well then, have at it! I won't be going back. ""Hall Street Bar and Grill; stop comparing yourself to downtown restaurants and trying to be more than you now are. It's over, go away or clean the place up!""\r \r Pros: Location Cons: Smelly, overpriced, run-down more

Go for HH only and avoid Friday HH 5/1/2007

I recently went back to Hall Street Grill and utterly disappointed. Last time I was here, it was about a year ago and even then I felt the HH menu had gone south. This time, I was very disappointed: the price has gone up and the food has gone down in terms of quality. Their HH drinks are still cheap albeit a bit weak on alcohol and their HH burger is still decent, but other than that the rest (I went with several people and got to taste just about every food on the HH menu) was average at best. FYI: Friday HH gets insanely busy, crowded and VERY noisy. \r \r Oh and I've eaten their regular restaurant food for dinner before and it is NOT worth the price (as the previous reviewer mentioned) - the quality, flavour and the taste... all so under par for the price they charge as if they're an upscale restaurant. more

not worth the price 2/19/2007

While the food at Hall Street was good, it was definitely nothing to write home about and definitely not worth the price we paid for it. One appetizer, two salads, and two entrees - both entrees were pasta dishes, not even steak - cost us $65. The food menu is extremely limited and the service was terrible. It took an exceptionally long time to get our food and our sodas literally sat empty for 10 minutes before being refilled. In the end, the quality of the food and the exceptionally bad service just didn't justify the high cost. Your money could be better spent at another restaurant. more

Best Dining 1/30/2007

The food is by far the best in the metro area hands down. The Chef has a creative mind that needs to be bottled and shared with those willing to enjoy what he has to offer. If I have to chose one dish that I put has my recommendation. This being a very hard task as I honestly believe they are all in thier own way the best of the best. My choice would be the prime rib. This prime rib is so delightfully wonderful. From the presentation of the dish to the heavenly way that it melts in your mouth the moment you taste it. Served with the most devine horseradish mash, that is not overpowering, to the perfectly cooked bussel sprouts and the shaved horseradish (that believe it or not is more on the sweet side). \r The staff is also so very warm and inviting. From the moment you enter the building to the moment you leave you feel cared for. How many places give you the warm comforting feel that no matter what they will make your experience the best you can ask for. Not very many that I know of. \r If you go another day without the benifit of trying the cuisine at the Hall Street Grill you are letting your taste buds miss out on heaven and your soul miss out on the relaxing comforting nature of the restaurant. more

Come for happy hour 1/23/2007

Here you will find a great after work meeting place for friends and colleagues. The lights are slightly dim and the interior is beautifully decorated and people are dressed business casual, giving it the appearance of a moderately upscale restaurant. But it has a reasonably priced happy hour menu that is great tasting and has a nice presentation. Atmosphere is moderately relaxed and noise level is tolerable, making general conversation easy but more difficult for intimate conversations and romantic dinners. Pros: Beautiful, relaxing but envigorating, reasonable H&H, tolerable noise level Cons: Staff could be friendlier or more welcoming. more

Best happy hour 11/9/2006

Hall Street is simply the best place to unwind after work in Beaverton. Go for the food, the drinks, or their happy hour and you can't go wrong. The staff at Hall Street offer exceptional service and are some of the friendliest people you'll find in town. If you like spice try the fiery chicken linguini but you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Pros: Food, drinks, service. Cons: -none- more

WOW 9/28/2006

amazing place! Great happy hour! Great food! Great service with plenty of smiles all over the place! Add to that a fountain on the covered patio! Amazing place. We love it and we will be back. Pros: Great staff with a smile Cons: NON more

I sure wasn't impressed 7/27/2006

My husband and I went there. Everything on the menu was extremely expensive, so we opted for hamburgers, which were also extremely expensive but less than everything else. They were large, dry patties on large, dry buns and they were awful. The fries were a greasy disaster. We will never go back. Cons: Bad food, expensive more

A Westside haven 7/4/2006

While what people say about this restaurant having slightly outdated decor and the smoke filled bar being right at the front of the entrance are true, this is the best restaurant on the Westside hands down. I would argue that it even warrants a visit from the ""city folk"" because the food here always pleases. The menu is updated regularly to include seasonal items like fresh salmon and seafood, while maintaining a few staples like excellent steak and chicken dishes. The wine list is very good and the waitstaff has always treated us like gold. Happy hour here is one of the best, but get here early, as it gets very crowded in the bar. The restaurant itself can be pretty tough to get into on a weekend night, as are any 1/2 decent places on the Westside, since the choices are so limited. Pros: Thank goodness for Hall Street Grill when the Westsiders want to stay local Cons: can be crowded and hard to get a table on weekends or during the week in the bar at happy hour more

good food 6/2/2006

I love there steak. it was very good. the decor are beautiful. Pros: good service more

Are you kidding me? 2/18/2006

Wow, has this place gone down hill. The happy hour still rocks - both the food menu and drinks are fantastic. But, if you're there after happy hour and are still hungry, plan on dishing out $35-$40 for an average (at best) dinner and salad. The portions are so small, you'd think you're still ordering off the happy hour menu. The staff is always great but this place is just rediculous. It's so outdated and expensive. I can live with one or the other, but not both. My advice, don't order anything after happy hour ends. Pros: happy hour, staff Cons: over priced, average food, circa 1996 decor more

Worst dining experience I've had in Portland 9/10/2005

Waited an 1 1/2 hours for a table. When we arrived at the table, it was still dirty. Food arrived after waiting for another 45 minutes. The steak was over done and bland. The waitress never checked back with us during the entire meal and I had to get up, walk back to the front of the restaurant to find the hostess so that I could pay. If you're looking to pay high prices for terrible service and mediocre food. This place is perfect. Cons: Service, Food, What else is there? more

Always good, occasionally astonishing 7/3/2005

Few weeks back had their grilled Copper River Salmon. Unquestionably the best I've ever had. The fare at HSG never disappoints, but on many occasions, it is hard to believe how good it really is. The service is great and the whole experience is unpretentious. HSG has put an end to my circling for a parking spot in Northwest. Pros: Grilled seafood, Service, Location Cons: $$$ more

The perfect business lunch spot 12/12/2004

Constantly hopping, the Hall Street Grill is awesome for a power lunch. Well-prepared entreés compliment a high-energy atmosphere that helps to get things accomplished. The drinks hit the spot too, especially at happy hour. The prices don't always seem to match up with the dishes, but at this level of quality its not often noticable. A must-visit for white linen diners in Beaverton. Pros: Flavorful food, upbeat staff, centrally located Cons: , noise level more
