\r My wife brought her ring (brand new) in to be resized and was told by Blatino banana boat "" I think I can do it"". Not the answer she was looking for from a ""Jeweler"" but she went through with it anyway. The ring was picked up the following day and it looked like the guy let a 4 year old have at it with a grinding wheel, vice grips and a blow torch. I've seen better metal work wrapped around a Hershey's Kiss. There was a great deal of pitting where the ring was soldered and quite a bit of the original white gold was removed. The removal of the material would make sense if she were needing to go up a size. However, she was sizing it down... To top it all off the ring has multiple dents around the edges where it appears to have been held (unprotected) with a vice and there are small scratches ALL over. \r I took the ring to another Jewelry store today and they couldn't believe that the ring was given back to us in the condition it was in.\r I am planning on standing outside of this store and distributing flyers about the miserable experience. Terrible customer service and even worse- they are totally content with destroying your valuables and making you pay for it. I can't believe they are still in business. more

POOR QUALITY AND HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE (in my opinion). I originally wasn't going to take the time to post this, but today I heard a radio commercial for Gold Valley ; I totally agree with the other posts that describe this as, in my own words, an unwelcoming environment where, from my experience, staff act arrogantly. You would think that when you're dropping thousands on an engagement ring, you'd get pretty excellent customer service. Not at Gold Valley !!! My fiancé bought my ring there and the salesman failed to point out that there was a very visible natural inclusion (think large black dot that I could see with the naked eye holding my hand two feet from my face). Now, my fiancé did feel bad that he didn't notice it when he bought it, but like I told him, any salesman who wants a happy/repeat customer would have made sure he was explicitly aware of the very visible black dot in the middle of their engagement ring! I noticed it pretty quickly (the very next morning) so we brought it in first chance we could (within a week). The salesman cleaned it for us, brought it back with the spot still there and said, “So I guess you want another diamond?” It seemed to me that this guy saw this as an opportunity to squeeze more money out of us because he brought out a nicer diamond and wanted $1,700 more for it! He also dismissed my concern that the two baguettes on the sides looked like they were different sizes until my fiance pointed out that maybe it appeared that way because they were not mounted evenly, which the salesman then agreed with and said he'd get it fixed.\r Bottom line: FROM MY EXPERIENCE not only does this place have horrendous customer service, some of its products are inferior too. Not ONCE did this guy utter the words, “I'm sorry,” and he even seemed annoyed with us! \r Disliked: Service, Selection more

They may be the best place in town to buy jewelry from (I wouldn't know), but they are certainly one of the worse at buying the stuff. I had some scrap gold jewelry to sell and was shopping it around town for the best quote based purely on the gold content. I've heard their ads on the Q radio and as I was riding past their Security Mall location, dropped in to see what they could do for me. Right off the bat, before even looking at the gold pieces I had dropped on the counter, the guy there asks me what I was hoping to get for them. I told him that I had no particular amount in mind and that I was just hoping for their best quote. His reply was that if I gave him an amount he ""could work with"", he could probably ""get me a better deal"" than if I didn't. It was around this time that the red warning flags started going up in my mind.\r It got worse. He then tested only three of the dozen pieces for their actual purity and guessed (badly in many cases) on the purity of the remainder. I wouldn't have minded so much except that his bad guesses were all to my detriment (14k or less instead of the actual 18k or better). I already knew very well exactly what I was offering them, so they failed this particular test badly.After all this, I was still hoping for some sort of quote, or at least a ballpark figure on what they were willing to offer for it all, but no such quote was forthcoming. He again asked what we were hoping to get, and I again reiterated that I had no preconceived price in mind and was only looking for a quote. He then asked if I had obtained any other quotes yet, and when I (stupidly in retrospect) said yes, demanded to know what they were. I refused to give a sum and he then refused to provide any sort of quote.\r The whole proceedings were very strange. While dealing with the reticent man rep, I could hear another customer by the next showcase arguing about the purity of some diamond with a different rep, and that conversation was clearly not going well either. I guess I wasn't the only one being given the Gold Valley runaround. Beats me what the deal is with this place when it comes to buying jewerly, but that whole side of their business reeks to high heaven of a giant scam operation. I wouldn't go back to them to try and sell any jewelry in the future, and quite frankly, given the ethical problems on display during my visit, I wouldn't go anywhere near them to buy any jewelry in the future either. Caveat emptor.\r For anyone who got this far and is still interested, I ended up selling my scrap gold for a very fair price and with no problems whatsoever to the friendly professional people at The Gold Mine on Eastern Blvd. more

I have been browsing engagement bands and diamonds for a little while now and tried Gold Valley during my search, since they were local. I had been working with the owner's son for sometime, which was going well, that is, until his father (the owner) stepped in. Right out the gate he started into his sleazy pitch, telling me he had ""one hecht of a diamond, that he stole from someone because it would have cost him thousands more"". The diamond clearly wasn't what I wanted in size or polish/symmetry, but he kept pushing. When asked about the ""good"" rating on the symmetry ( I was looking for a very good to excellent) he stated it wasn't important because as long as the sides were all the same length the diamond would be fine. News flash: symmetry is how symmetrical the cuts are on each side, which then show the refractions of light - not the dimensions of length and width. Information he obviously knew, but was just trying to use to devalue my comment over the rating, so he could then back me into his diamond . Reading some of the other reviews is funny, cause I too felt like there was a lot of anger inside this toothless man . This was all just a feeling, but his words and stories of previous sales led me to believe it. Overall, if you are looking for customer service and a non-pressure environment I wouldn't shop here. more

I was amazed when i walked into Gold Valley. they have tremendouse amount of selection in jewelry, rings, watches, necklaces and more. their prices are very competitive and they beat any local jewelry store prices. more

Gold valley worked on my custom wedding band and its amazing. I designed my wedding band on a piece of paper and gold valley made it exactly as i designed it. and i love it. it was reasonable price and they did a brilliant job, best place to get your Custom Jewelry. As I walked in Gold Valley about a half of the year ago , a group of people were walking out, but I noticed the salesperson on the phone the entire time as I approached the store. After a few minutes she hung up, but did not so much as greet me and my companion, so me being the polite person that I am, greeted her as I peered into a jewelry case (no love lost) but I wasn't greeted back; I thought it odd, so to ensure I wasn't mistaken, to give her the benefit of the doubt, I looked up the second time to make eye contact, and was greeted with the most forced smile I've ever seen. Without a second thought, I looked at my brother and I told him that we were leaving. \r \r I refuse to shop where I'm not welcome. more

I went into Gold Valley Jewelers at Security Mall to get a battery replaced in my high end watch.\r Firstly, the Asian lady there can barely speak English. I don't intend to offend; it just makes it difficult to communicate with her. A couple minutes later they were finished. I looked it over, meticulously as always, and noticed the backing of the watch was damaged by the process. I showed the person who replaced the battery, who acknowledged the large grooved scratch that spanned the entire width of the backing was not there before. He tried to justify the situation by saying ""come on bro it's on your arm"". ""I'll throw in the battery"", he said. 10 dollars in this situation means nothing to me. I expect my watch to be in the same condition after the battery is replaced as it was when I walked into the store - almost perfect. Needless to say I got the manager who seemed to care less about the situation. His attitude was lackadaisical and at one point he looked at his associate and smirked while we were discussing ways to mend the situation. He must have thought I was being over sensitive about my watch which probably cost more than her monthly wage. The watch has been buffed , but still the ugliness of that correctional activity is exposed , because the scratch is so deep. Take my advice or leave it. They are unprofessional and I will never go to Gold Valley anymore , nor will anyone in my family or friends !\r \r more

I read the previous reviews but I don't think it applies to everybody, because I shop their couple of times and their selection Is huge, I was satisfied with my purchase and they offered me a great service. their associates are very smart and knowledgeable, I wouldn't buy jewelry anywhere else beside gold valley. more

If you are in the market for fine jewelry- don't go here. My fiancee purchased my engagement ring in October 2008. The day after he proposed I noticed a diamond had fallen out of my ring. We didn't think it was a big deal at the time so we called back to VeeJay and he said to bring it in. We were offered no apology but they put the diamond back in. To make a long story short, the same ring , diamonds has fallen out 5 different places and each time no apology is offered and I am blamed for ""banging my ring around"". This is funny because the ring is in the box when I shower, do house work, sleep etc. All of my friends wear their rings 24/7 with no issues but the diamonds keep falling out of mine. Once the diamond fell out the 4th time we took it to other jewelry stores in Pikesville to get a second opinion and were basically told that the ring was poorly made. My fiancee asked for his money back and was told no but they could recast the ring in platinum for an additional $2000. Nice. At this point, the ring is a sore subject for us. You would think that when you get engaged your ring would be great and actually hold up through the engagement. I've been engaged for 6 months and the diamonds have fallen out 5 different times. How is this ring supposed to last the rest of my life? Okay , we tried to trade the ring in towards an other , but , every time we went in, the sales people acted like they had never seen us before. They could never locate the certificates for the horrible diamonds they were giving us and over charging us for. Always wanted way more money to upgrae the diamond, although the diamond they would put in the ring was not the one we had chosen. I agree that tey pretty much ruined the whole ring and engagement experience for me. \r My experience echo's all the other reviews here((\r \r P.S. Following the thoughts and feedback review of my friend about that store , I have a word to say, too :\r I couldn't believe what bad service we got a week ago, when we went in to buy a pair of gold earrings to replace a pair that I had lost. The salesperson clearly didn't want to bother with us for such a ""cheap"" item and kept trying to blow us off, at first saying that they had nothing more than what was in the cases. Then another person lazily suggested that they might have something in the back, at which point they pulled out a whole box of earrings! They clearly couldn't wait for us to leave, even though we were the only customers in the store. Incredibly foolish of them, since we certainly won't be coming back to look for more expensive pieces (didn't he notice I was wearing diamonds?). I normally don't write reviews but I was so incensed, I sought this site out. more

I bought a 1 carat diamond ring from them back in april of thisyear (2010) and its not Sep. and the engament failed months ago and its been siting the whole time. IU attempted to sell it to J browns jewlery store as they by back rings and gold and the appraiser said that the ring was cut poorly and the quality was horrible, and in so many words...a piece of sh#@. I called Gold valley and they told me anyone can say bad things about the work, etc etc. I started calling a few places and now plan to get it appraised to see whats what. I called them back asking if they do appraisels and in a shaky voice I got a long version of no! That they do original appraisel i.e. original worth. Not of the diamond. I am going to have major words with them if this ring turns out to be some B.s. or if the Jewler atj browns was trying to be cheap because he only offered me 50$ on a ring i paid 1200 for in April and was barely worn. more

I had some pearls that I had purchased in southeast Asia and wanted to get the turned into some earrings for my girlfriend. I walk into the place thinking that this is a custom show full of artists who will know exactly what I can do within my budget. The boy helping me was nice enough but  after explaining to him what I wanted to try to do - rather then suggesting solutions busted out a parts catalog of jewelry stuff. Not knowing what anything was or how it might go together it was all a foreign language to me - how was I supposed to know what pieces to put together? I instead looked around at the samples in the store until I saw something simple I liked. He showed me the pieces that were used and I could see that they only costed about  $10 total and asked him to let me know how much the whole thing would cost and that I would be right back. He said to ask for a different person when I came back cuz he was leaving store to do a deposit . Upon retuning I asked for the boy ""Mike"", but apparently he was too busy, but another boy - ""Johny"" came with a hand written quote that he couldn't even read. When I asked a question he would have to go back and ask some other guy... In the end he wanted to charge me $100 to drill a hole in the pearls and then $40 for the $10 post that you slide through it. It was going to be close to $200 when it was all said & done. And it would have looked totally ordinary. I almost went for it but decided to try another Jeweler - Guess what? The other Jeweler (Glazer)  - $30 and that included customizing a pair of vintage silver earrings so that I would have a pair that were truly unique. I had purchased a diamond from Ram and Suny ""Gold Valley"" jewelers , I had done business with'em for 12 yrs. At the time of purchase, I asked for an appraisal & diamond certificate. It took 5 months for the appraisal, and then all he could come up with was a copy of a certificate from EGL. I insisted on the original, which he couldn't get. Then he said he was going through IGL (Independent Grading Laboratory). That came back in about a week. It looked like an original, but had no contact info, no date, no plotting, and listed the stone exactly the same as his appraisal & the copy of the 1st certificate. Neither lab had the diamond when they supposedly certified it because I had it. I have had several correspondences with him, usually doesn't answer. I have complaints with the BBB, State of Md.Consumer Div, Federal Trade Commission, and the Jeweler's Vigilance Committee. Ram has told some of those agencies that I just can't afford the ring-that's why I am doing this. At my own expense, I had the diamond appraisal by a certified gemologist, and then sent it to GIA to be certified. They both concur that I paid a high price for a low quality diamond. The jeweler's documents say it is a SI2, I color. My appraisal & certificate list it as I2, color k. I paid 800.00 cash, financed 10,000.00 and gave him my old diamond that he supposedly gave me 4,000.00 credit for it. Now I have incurred more costs getting it certified, etc. The diamond was appraised for $10,050. Any suggestions? I'm pretty sure it is a violation of the Consumer Protection in Maryland & the federal trade commission. Do you know anything about treble awards? This jeweler apparently doesn't think he has to answer to anyone. Thanks in advance for your time .\r more

Just to let everybody know...a while ago, I wrote a review about how horrible this place was and Gold Valley Jewelers removed it, as it was probably costing them some business. But, I am back to tell everyone to stay away from this store. It is the worst jewelery store I have ever been in. They ruined my engagement ring and I dont think any couple should have to go through what we did. They are inexperienced, as they have 3 jewelers and none of them were able to fix my ring AFTER they ruined it. Eventually, I had to return it and buy a ring elsewhere, which no newly engaged young lady should have to do. Do yourselves a favor and find a jeweler that will actually treat you with respect.\r P.S. I walked into this store while searching for an unusual engagement ring. I only needed about a minute in the store to discover that I wasn't going to find anything what I was looking for here. The store mostly carries bright yellow gold chains, necklaces and watches in conventional styles. If that's what you're looking for, you're in luck. There are heaps of them loaded onto every available space. The design of the store emphasizes quantity, not quality. The effect can be somewhat blinding since there's gold on every available surface ... The youngman who calls himself Shawn ( son of the boss ) was very rude and talks slang to me . I just walked away ! \r \r Pros: Zales type looking store .... Cons: Manager Rick , who "" juck up "" prices for each and everything !!! more
