Terrific Italian food. Best in StL. Friendly, helpful and efficient service. They'll customize your order to your liking. You can also avoid the overpriced wine at restaurants...

Worst Meal Since Ponderosa 5/1/2010

Our party of five was seated right away on a Friday night. That should have been a heads up. Our house salads were so heavily peppered, even the teen who ate it without dressing had to wipe her tongue off. After a few minutes our lips and mouthes started to go numb. We expected the traditional Italian salad with provolone, olives, etc. and got wilted pepper-lettuce with oil, yuck. All of us sent them back after three or so bites. One of the five of us enjoyed our entre. My chicken spiedini was not made with breadcrumbs and olive oil. It was more like a dried, hard cordon bleu...and again, without peppercorn, the sauce was heavy with pepper. My limp spinach was soaked in oil ..eewww. This was once a great place on The Hill. I ate there several times with great enjoyment. New management. Cutbacks. New chef. Go, no, run away from this one. ESPECIALLY if you are in STL for one night and want a good St. Louis Italian dinner. There are so many more, and better, choice. Ewe, my stomach still hurts. Pros: Exceptional Service Cons: Terrible Food more

You can also avoid the overpriced wine at restaurants and bring your own for a modest $10 corkage fee. St. Louis (and the Hill) is known for its Italian food. This place is family owned and operated with pride. It is THE BEST! Pros: Outstanding Italian! Cons: none more

Great dining and eclectic location. After moving from St Louis years ago, we always go back to dine with family and friends during our frequent visits back to St Louis. more

Fantastic Gem of a restuarant 2/9/2009

ive been to Italy and had fantastic food while i was there...that being said, it has been hard to find something comparable since i've returned. New to the St. Louis area I I have heard much about the Hill, and my first stop was here at Gian-Tony's...it was open Sunday evening when most were closed. Glad I went in, the food was phenominal, the wait staff was top notch and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this establishment. I had a seared scallop dish with a brandy cream sauce with mushroom, impecible. My date had a seafood ravioli, which they added spice at her request without hesitation. flawless. highly recommended. more

A great place if you are looking for old time Italin charm, and food. Evertime the food is amazing. It is a small place that make up for it with it's large portions. Hands down the best on the HIll. Everything they make is to die for. Pros: Great Italian Food Cons: A bit Small more

Best restaurant on the Hill. 11/19/2007

We happened upon Gian Tony's after reading a review about it. We love this restaurant!. The staff is frienly and helpful, from the greeter to the busboys. We have been greeted personally by the chef on more than one occasion, and have seen him greet many other diners also to see if everything was as expected. The atmosphere is very warm and not too stuffy. Now...the best part...the food is incredible. The menu and wine list are really varied and not too expensive for the Hill. My favorites are the fried artichokes, tortellini, and (when available) the seafood ravioli. We love our experience every time! Highly recommended. Pros: Atmosphere, friendly staff, incredible food Cons: None. more

Great Place to Eat on the Hill 10/23/2007

Gian-Tony's is a quaint little restaurant on the Hill. It seemed to be a popular place to eat, so making a reservation is advised. There is outdoor seating, although it was too cold the night we visited. There is smoking in the lounge when you walk in where a bar is located and there are also some tables there. There is no smoking in the remainder of the restaurant and you couldn't smell the smoke if you were in the dining area. Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Smoking allowed (but only in lounge) more

The staff was very attentive and the kitchen offered many daily specials from appetizers to entrees and desserts. One of us got the tilapia special, which was a huge portion and came with a side of pasta (you could get a vegetable instead of pasta) and a salad. Another friend got a pasta primavara dish which she thought was excellent and light. The pasta dishes are ala carte. I got the broccoli and provel stuffed chicken with a side of pasta and salad. It was delicious! We also got 2 appetizers - the bruschetta (very good) and an eggplant spread, which was a special of the night. I'm not an eggplant fan, but the other two loved it. All in all, this is a great place to eat, with good, prompt service, a good ambiance, and great food. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the St. Louis area looking for a good Italian place on The Hill. Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Smoking allowed (but only in lounge) more

Great Place with a history. 8/24/2006

Gian Tony's is a great family, or date place. Accross the street from Berra Park it's easy to find and far enought off the main drag that parking is not much of a problem. Not alot of people know the history... The owner Tony, was the executive chef at Giovanni's right down the street. He took his talents and opened Gian Tony's. It is the premier food and ambiance that you would expect from a 4 star joint, but at a much more reasonable price! Pros: Everything Cons: I live too far away! more
