Best

This is a nice place to have coffee and think for a really serious matters. I found this place when i visit my aunt in Nashville.

Worst

Not our best experience, but I have been there before and had a nice time and meal. So maybe it was just an off night. Will be back. Pros: Salmon dish Cons: rushed servi...

Consistently good 1/23/2005

I try to eat here whenever I am in town on business. The place is very big city, but the staff lacks the attitude that usually accompanies places like this. The food is always good, as is the service. I think that they have done something to combat their noise problem, too. I look forward to making it in for brunch sometime; meanwhile, the salmon at dinner will keep me coming back. Pros: Service, Design, Food Cons: , No reservations more

Good, but not Great 12/4/2004

I had a good, but not great experience. It was good enough, that I may give them another try. The service and management were very friendly and attentative. The food had hints of being great, but lacked in some areas. The Caesar salad lacked depth and balance in the dressing. Again, it was good, but not great. The Tasso gravy and asparagus were the best part of the Chicken Tasso. The sauce had just the right amount of heat and the asparagus were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken on the otherhand reminded me of a 1970's banquet chicken. The rice also had a lot to be desired, it had absolutely no seasoning. I also tried a side of the highly recommended Garlic Grit Cakes. These too had potential, but had a strong taste of overheated cooking oil. Presentations were simple, almost too simple for the price. Pros: SOme of the Food, Service, Valet Parking Cons: , A little expensive more

A Bit Disappointing 7/1/2004

We took a party of 11 to the Germantown Cafe for a birthday dinner. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to assist us. With all of the rave reviews we'd heard about Germantown Cafe, it was kind of a let down. The food quality was disappointing. The appetizers, squash fritters, escargot and crab cakes, were fine. The entrees, however, lacked. The steak, ordered medium, was charred and very tough. The pasta dishes were very salty. The chicken dishes, both the Tasso & the special of the day, were average at best. Overall, glad we tried it but probably will not go back. Pros: Friendly Staff, Immediate Seating, Valet Parking more

Quite wonderful 3/11/2004

This place is a real find. The food is quite delicious and straightforward and an almost impossibly good value - I don't think I saw a single entrée over 19 bucks. The room is beautiful, with a great view of downtown. I've been quite a few times and never really been disappointed with anything--lunch is particulary bustling and they always manage to get me in and out in less than an hour. The vibe is different at night, more leisurely, but it's perfect and, again, very very pretty. Thoughtful wine list...and the servers are knowledgable about wine/food pairings; they seem to know their stuff, which is rare these days. It's a winner all the way around. Pros: Food & Value, Atmosphere, Service more

Highly Recommend 2/28/2004

Four of us ate at Germantown Cafe last night. The owner said it was their busiest night yet. We arrived 6ish and were seated quickly. We weren't seated by the windows, but the view was still good and the ambience very nice. The food was wonderul! The favorites at our table were the Squash Fritters and the Southwestern Chicken Strudel. Both were absolutely yummy! The Caesar salads were better than the house salad. The Char-crusted New York Strip was cooked just as ordered it and very tasty and tender. For dessert, Chocolate Truffle Cake w/ raspberries was incredible and the Walnut Apple Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream was runny (like apple pie soup topped with ice cream), but tasted great! The host and hostess were very attentive and friendly. Our server was less so. The prices are very reasonable for such high quality fare. We will absolutely be going back. more

Simple Elegance 11/25/2003

I have dined here a few times now, and have not been dissappointed. The lamb and strip are fantastic, especially for $19.00. I have to say I agree about the house salad, but I don't think you can expect much more for a free starter salad. Who else gives you that nowadays? Apple pie and chocolate bread pudding are my picks for dessert. Also, a very interesting wine list, grouped by price. I think the restaurant owners are trying to bring value back to Nashville. Thanks! Pros: Decor, Food, Service Cons: No Reservations, Noise more
