this place is my favorite place, the food is amazingly good, always hot and always taste fresh. i would recommend the Yum-Yum as the salad dressing, it comes with a dressing on it...

Dont Eat here....make the drive to the other one 3/13/2012

The food is to die for, but this place has gone to ruins. One its in one of the worst areas in Reynoldsburg and they must have hired every employee from the neighborhoods of run down apartments the restuarant coninsides in. This used to be such a great place to go to, now all i get to to hear is ignoarant people that live near there yelling and screaming about baby mama drama. Also the staff reflects the are and restuarant perfectly. Snobby, nasty, and just show much they hate where they work. if i owned this business, i would clear house, considering i havent one nice thing to say about any employee ive encountered there. If you want shitty service and made to feel like your expected to basically wait on yourself, then go here. if not, drive the extra 15 min and go to the other one in Columbus. Dont GO HERE more

Was good, not great......at first...... 12/12/2011

Our company has had it's get togethers at Genji for several years now. And granted, the first time was amusing and the chef was very personable. This time, the chef was ok, waitress was ok but there were several things that will make me think twice about going back there. It's extremely noisy, we had to yell to be heard by the person next to us. The soup and salad courses, while tasty, came so quickly there was no time to savor either. After the main course was served, I got the feeling of being rushed. The waitress was bringing boxes before we were even halfway through our dinner. Then the biggest problem....approximately 70% of our group had stomach and or intestinal distress that night and the next day. So obviously there was some problem with something in the food, whether it was the sauce or the preservative on the lettuce or whatever. That is completely unacceptable. If only 1 person had a little distress, I wouldn't attribute it to the food, but since about 70% displayed varying degrees of nausea and other issues, I think that they need to be checked out by the health department to make sure that the refrigeration is sufficient and that shelf life is checked regularly. Needless to say, until such issues are addressed, we won't be having any more corporate meetings at Genji! more

Favorite place- now LEAST favorite place due to Manager 3/21/2011

I have gone to Genji for years. The food is fabulous, no doubt. But, last I went, my order was taken wrong. I was there on my lunch and had little time. Instead of extra mushrooms, which I ordered, I got ""extra vegetables"" (onions and zuccini.) This was dumped on my plate. I told the waitress the order was wrong and she said they could prepare a whole other plate. I said no, just leave it. Don't have time to wait, will deal with the error. She comes with the check which is charging me for the mistaken order. I tell her I did not think this was fair, not my error, I would gladly pay for the rest. She had to get a manager. By this time, I have eaten at least half the meal. The manager comes over and I tell him these veg were dumped on my plate, not what ordered, etc. Didnt think I should pay for what I didnt order. He says, he will give me mushrooms that I ordered, but he will have to bring a plate over and I will have to pick all the vegetables out and put them on the plate first. Really? My lunch is over by this time, I am gonna sit and pick onions of my plate? Whatever, I paid but I have to say being in Management, the worst service EVER seen given by a manager. Clearly they have enough business and don't need mine anymore. PS I am sure you get people ""in that location"" who are trying to get a free meal- but I was a regular wince Livingston Ave, and I tip well. So goodbye Genji! more

Don't bother making a reservation 1/22/2011

We made a reservation for seven people, several days in advance of the night of our 8:15pm reservation. We arrived and checked in with Ginji's Host at 8:05pm. After waiting until 8:50pm, we inquired with the Host and were told ""Sorry, we're behind with our 8:15 reservations, you're the next to be seated"". We were seated at 9pm. 5 minutes before we were seated, I noticed a party of seven just came in the door. They were seated five miuntes after us. Poor, poor, poor, poor reservation making and keeping. Don't bother to go there EVEN IF you have a reservation unless you bring your own appetizers so you don't starve before you're seated and served. \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r more

this place is my favorite place, the food is amazingly good, always hot and always taste fresh. i would recommend the Yum-Yum as the salad dressing, it comes with a dressing on it but you can ask for the Yum-Yum. Also the chefs are very entertaining!! i love to watch them prepare the food. i have never had a problem with any of the times i have gone. usually when you haev a large party that add tip into the check and when its less then 5 in a group the tip is seperate. i would recommend making reservations ahead of time. this place is awesome! Pros: entertaining, food is amazing, nice setting, great chefs Cons: always packed( which isnt a bad thing) more

The worst service EVER!!! 6/5/2010

A party of 14 with reservations to celebrate a birthday. To start the party was separated. All but 5 were seated together. The other 5 were seated beside and had to wait for the other seats to be filled before we could order. Once the others arrived, they ordered from the bar. We had to wait on their drinks to get to the table before we could order. By the time we ordered the rest of our party, seated at the other table has already ordered, been served the broth, salad and the chef had started cooking their food. The waitress was not friendly or attentive. She did not give refills on our drinks. The hot tea was cold, one in our party of 5's ordered was not correct and the did not correct it until the meal was over. By the time we got our meal the rest of our party at seated at another table was already done with their meal and had their to-go boxes sitting in front of them. They watched us eat. The person celebrating their birthday finally go the ""birthday package"" that we ordered but the ""package only included a pineapple section and one waitress beating a drum. We were so disappointed in the service that I refused to pay the 15% that the said they REQUIRE regardless of the service received. I paid 10% as the chef generally was ok. The waitress insisted that we had not paid the check in full and that is was ""short. I paid the bill plus 10%. She called a manager that ran over to me and hovered over me demanding the rest of the ""required tip"". He would not even listen to the reason why the tip was less that they required. I left the money and bill and left the building. Two of the managers ran after me like bouncers and demanding the money. I went back into the resturant and tried to explain was the tip was not as they so call required. He still would not listen. I told him in a very calm way to call the police to solve this as they would not let me leave. After about 5 minutes he said he would accept my payment and then followed me out of the resturant and while other customers were coming in and the rest of our party was in the parking lot, he yelled at them all and told them that none of them were allowed back into the resturant. They were all banded because they were with me. Very unprofessional. And uncalled for. I paid the bill and more of a tip than was earned in my opinion. None of us will ever go to this resturant again and I plan to tell everyone I know about me visit to the establishment. DO NOT FREQUENT THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. Cons: Over priced food. Poor Service and LOUSY Manager more

GREAT FOOD 12/5/2009

The food is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: workers are always friendly! more

Great show, great dining experience 10/17/2009

at the same time the chefs skillfully prepare your food they make a make a spectacular and entertining show of it. It is one of the neater things about the japanese and their love of cooking that intrigues me Pros: good cuisine, good location, warm atmosphere Cons: long waits, even with at times even with reservation more

Bad Service Rude Managers 10/9/2009

Genji's is a fine place if you never have a problem with service or food. ""The customer is always right"" does NOT exist at Genji's. Anytime there is a problem you're just screwed the managers argue with you about your experience and the staff just blames the managers. I would NOT recommend Genji's they're over priced anyway and there are a ton of other ""Japanese Steak Houses"" in Columbus that serve the EXACT same thing. Genji's is too full of themselves they think they can treat their customers any kind of way and get away with it lets send a message to them that they need to respect the customer and realize we keep them in business! Cons: Overpriced and Horrible Customer Service more

GREAT PLACE TO EAT!! 7/30/2009

The show the chef's give is wonderful. I told my podiatrist about The Genji and they loved it so much that they are now regulars. His kids as well well as do mine think it's a great place to eat. Great food and great surroundings. However if you want to cut the wait down make sure to make a reservation. Pros: The Filet Mignon is out of this world Cons: they only have one kind of salad dressing more

The best!! :0) 3/27/2009

I love this place. It has always provided the best Japenese food since I was little and they were located on Livingston Avenue. It is hard for me to believe that hair could possibly get into your food when the chef is cooking right in front of you and no one else had hair in thier food.......looks like someone didn't have enough funds for thier meal. And to the other negative comment,,,,,have you ever heard of a reservation, it gets you into the restaraunt quicker. Pros: Yum Yum anyone. Cons: People still choose to visit plain ol' Japenese Steakhouse more

Awsome food and service! 3/23/2009

To those who are wondering why they hade to wait so long. Its because you need to call and make reservations! anyway. I've been going there since I can remember and have always gotten right in and seated. But if you don't make reservations then you will most def. have to wait. Either way its worth the money and the wait. I caint find a bad thing to say about this place. more

DO NOT GO TO GENJI ON BRICE ROAD! 2/23/2009

We got to Genji for dinner and had to put our names on the waiting list. Twenty minutes after we got on the list, a group of teenager boys came in and started flirting with the hostess. She put their names on the waiting list, then seated them right away, and left us still waiting. Our total wait was 45 minutes. We brought it to the manager's attention and he was rude and non-helpful. He got very angry and argumentative with us. When we finally got seated, our check was $64 before tip for two adults and a child -- Very expensive for mediocre food and rude service. Take the little extra drive and go to the Japanese steakhouse on High Street across from the Convention Center!\r Pros: The place is warm because of all the flames Cons: Expensive, dirty, rude service more

Favorite Lunch spot 2/11/2009

I love Genji for lunch. Usually busy but never wait for more than 15 minutes for a table. I recommend getting double rice so you have enough to take with you for another meal. :-) Pros: Lunch portions just as big as dinner for less Cons: Closed on Mondays more

Good food, lots of fun!!! 12/31/2008

I have lived around Columbus all my life. My daughter's birthday and mine are 6 days apart. I don't know how many years we've been going to Genji's for our combined birthdays. The atmosphere is always fun and I always laugh at the antics. My son asks to go there for his birthday as well (he's 25). The yum, yum is out of this world. The food is good and there is always plenty to take home. Pros: reservations, lots of food, good entertainment by the cook Cons: a little pricey more

WATCH OUT FOR HAIR! 9/24/2008

\r I recently had dinner at the restaurant with 5 other individuals. My daughter found 3 hairs in her food and of course couldn't continue eating her meal. The management staff refused to take her meal off the bill. The manager was unprofessional and unreasonable . After disputing the incident the night of dinner, I contacted another manager the following day, who also refused to adjust the bill further or give some type of discount for the next time I would dine. I was basically told that they couldn't believe the story that hairs were found in the food, even when there were 5 other witnesses to the incident. When I asked to speak to the owner of the restaurant, they refused to give me his contact information.\r \r I am appalled at the manner in which my party was treated and the poor customer service of this restaurant. more

Food is sub par 9/21/2008

We just moved from Chicago, and we were looking for a fun Japanese steak house. A neighbor recommended Genji. We were very dissapointed. The sushi was tired. The ginger dressing for the salad was too gingery. They didn't even have a teriyaki dipping sauce with the food. We will never go back there again. My kids didn't even have fun there.\r more

Best Food, Best Yum Yum, Courteous Staff Too! 7/5/2008

Okay, this place is awesome! My husband and I come here for any birthday or anniversary. The staff is always friendly, and the food is amazing. They offer a different variety of options, but I love the combo dinners. The chefs are fun to watch. They have 2 locations, on on Brice Rd. and on Sawmill Rd. I've been to both. If you have a large party, the Sawmill location may be better as it is bigger with a large waiting room. I usually do not like asian food at all but this was totally different. Quality cuts of meat and they can make it any way you like. I always forego the mushrooms and bean sprouts and they just give more to the other guests. If you want a nice dinner, check out Genji. -And don't forget to try the ""yum yum"" sauce! Pros: Great food, service, and ambience! Yum yum is good! Cons: Reservations are key or you'll have a long wait! A little pricey. more
