Happy Customer 8/23/2010

Woody from Gene Johnson Plumbing came to our home to fix a water problem. He was incredibly professional and helpful. The pride he took in repairing our problem so late in the evening was so appreciated. He took time to make sure that our water was working and did great work. We would never call upon another company to do any work in our home. Kristine/Seattle more

Job Well Done 8/18/2010

Gene Johnson Plumbing recently did sewer work at my home and it was a job well done. I was impressed and offer my sincerest praise and appreciation for their employees. Every one of their team members who communicated with myself or my wife were very professional, set expectations properly, and we felt they really cared about us and our home. All of the work was completed as agreed, the yard suffered little if any damage from the construction, and all of my favorite trees and shrubs were spared. I am so happy to not have to worry about the sewer ever again, and I have a profound sense of security knowing that this long term issue has been resolved once and for all. It really was a job well done. (Mark, Seattle) more

Great Service- but expensive 8/4/2010

On time, courtious, efficient, and effective. The only problem is they are very expensive. I paid $375 for a 30 min drain cleaning. I didn't check with others so their pricing may be at market but it is still a whole bunch of money for a simple job. Still, it was done right and done quickly! more

Good Work 8/2/2010

I called Gene Johnson plumbing to work on my main water supply line. They showed up when they said they would, made me aware of work needing to be done, and answered all of my questions. My wife and I have hired Gene Johnson Plumbing and Heating on three occasions and have never been disappointed in the work done. The plumbers have always gone above and beyond to ensure that the job was completed quickly and correctly. They do good work...Tim more

Excellent Service 7/23/2010

They responded quickly to my call for help after I discovered a leaking joint in the copper pipe coming from our hot water heater. Luckily it wasn't too serious at the time. They arrived at the time requested and managed the job professionally, guiding me through the options available and the cost breakdown. I found the plumber to be highly skilled, very knowledgable and certainly customer-satisfaction oriented. I would be pleased to recommend Gene Johnson Plumbing to others. JD, Kirkland more

Quality Service, Good Price 8/25/2009

Good: Price was estimated over the phone to within $20 of actual cost. Bad: Same day service wasn't available but understood why. not really a issue. Improvements: No problems with the service or technicians, nothing to note about needing to improve. Other: They answered my questions without hesitation and were on time and clean. no damage or worse problems. - Great Service I'll consider using again. WSI. more

Excellent Service 5/27/2009

Just a note to thank and commend Mark C. and Thomas B. for their outstanding service to us in replacing the water line to our house this week. After waiting nearly a month for the Seattle water department to respond to our complaint and confirm that it was our responsibility to fix the problem, we were amazed and pleased to have Mark and Thomas show up within an hour after we called Gene Johnson. Even more satisfying was that Mark was able to complete the paper work, schedule the "Ditch Witch" folks and obtain the necessary permits by end of day. Their work passed inspection of course and the cleanup was excellent, Our thanks to them for their professional work and their excellent customer service. Richard P. Seattle, WA more

I just wanted to let you know what a great job Eric did installing a new sink and faucet in our bathroom, he was very professional. It turned out to be a much bigger job than he had anticipated. He was also helpful in answering all our questions. I will definitely recommend him for future jobs. Mary B. more

Customer Forever ! 5/27/2009

1/28/09 For three years I have lived in my home with an eyesore. The previous owners had installed a refuse burner that was not to code and was hideous! It was hideous in 1970, so you can only image how awful it was in 2009. I Have called multiple different companies to pay to have it removed but to no avail.. "Too heavy","Not worth it." Today Darrell & Thomas came to my home to do my service partner check & while visiting I mentioned the refuse burner and they TOOK IT OUT! No big deal, No charge, just took it out because they like to be helful! I am in shock & so pleased, I am a Gene Johnson customer forever!! Thanks, R. Nelson more

They did a good job on pipe replacement 4/8/2009

We didn't have any issues with them and they finished their job first and on time. The price is okay too compared with the quotes we get from other plumbers. more

furnace maintenance and leak detection 2/12/2009

I had them come out to do maintenance on my furnace and check on a leak near the water heater. He serviced the furnace and then checked all my sinks and toilets for possible problems. We then turned on the faucets in each room to see if any water would leak and when it didn't, he suggested that rather than cutting into my wall, we wait to see if leak recurs and if so to call. I found him honest and agreed that it could have been rain or some other leak. I highly recommend them. more

Major Rip-off 1/4/2009

My 83 yr old mother called Gene Johnson Plumbing to replace a toilet supply line in a secondary bathroom. They had been used on a project in her condo the previous August. They had a "service agreement" that supposedly offered her a discount. The plumber arrived and replaced the less than $10 part in less than 1/2 hr. Total charge - $298.26. There was no breakdown of charges on her bill, just their word that it was discounted. Upon subsequent calls to local plumbers she found out the job could have been done for anywhere from $100-$150. Calls to Gene Johnson by myself and my sister questioning the charges were dismissed by the receptionist-basically we were blown off. Do not use this company. I am now in the process of notifying the BBB and Attorney General's Consumer division about their poor business practices. more

Wonderful Job, Thank You! 5/30/2008

My neighbor recommended me to these guys. She said that they did a wonderful job putting in 3 toilets in her house. So I called and asked for a price quote. (I needed a new garbage disposer) They would not give me a quote over the phone and said the plumber needed to come out to give a proper quote for putting in the disposer and would wave the dispatch fee ($20 to come out) if I had them replace mine. Anywho… to make a long story short, it was not cheap, I was actually surprised how much it cost. But the plumber (I think his name was Darrel?) was really professional, asked me questions like how often I used my disposer and what types of food I throw in there. He gave me a few choices, and I picked the disposer that could grind almost anything. Darrel and his helper did a great job. They new disposer is a lot quieter than the old one. I also really liked that they used carpet and shoe protectors when they walked in. They where friendly with my dog and I felt like I trusted them. Oh, and about hour or so after they left, I got a follow call from a gal at their company asking was the work performed to my expectations and would I recommend him to my friends. I said yes and gave Darrel a 10 out of 10. Thanks! more

Total Rip-off 10/11/2007

I paid $900 to replace a wax ring on a toilet - they charged me $350 to cut a huge hole in the tile wall which they cannot repair to look and scratch their heads and say :"no - not leaking here". When the new wax seal continued to leak, they said I had to pay to run a camera down the sewer line. Another plumber replaced their improperly installed $900 wax seal for $100 and solved the problem. I might as well have flushed my paycheck as call Gene Johnson. BJW more

Very nice people - but overpriced & hard-sell oriented 5/17/2007

We have 2 rental houses in the Seattle area. We typically do most of the maintenance work ourselves since we are very experienced at remodeling houses. We live in Oregon, 6 hours away. We took a recent trip to Seattle to repair a punch list including a leaky hose bib. Thinking it would be a simple matter of tightening the nut or reseating the valve, we left that task to the end. When we discovered the bib was a frost-free type and was attached inside the house. We also couldn't readily find a replacement one at the home improvement store. So, we decided to head for home and call a plumber to repair the bib. The gal at Gene Johnson was very polite and indicated they had a estimate fee of $29.00, which would be applied to the repair should we use them. Thinking a hose bib repair would be pretty simple, I was not worried about the fee. The plumber got to the house promptly (within a few days). However, when he called with an estimate, he started out by giving me a list of other things he found that he recommended we replace or repair (we had not requested this walk through and REALLY hope he did not say anything to the tenant who will now think thing are in disrepair and expect us to provide other upgrades). I again asked how much the hose bib repair would be. Instead of giving me the price a second time, he pitched their "preferred client" program to us, which involves a charge of 6.95 per month and comes with a bunch of "discounts" on emergency fees and etc. --Because we are quite handy and do most repairs ourselves, I declined and for a third time, asked how much the hose bib would be to repair. He said he felt the hose bib was installed too close to the wall, and asked if we had had plumbing done recently. I said we had not, and bought the house 6 years ago in 2001 -- but the woman who owned it did have it completely replumbed at some point with all new copper pipe (the house was built in 1910). Because I am somewhat familiar with frost-free bibs and how they attach, I asked what he meant by "too close to the wall" and he seemed unable to explain it very well, other than to say he would need to replumb the area because the "cold had gotten to it since it was too close to the wall". At this point, I was unsure he was very familiar with frost-free bibs, since they extend into the wall and the valve is located inside the house where it's warm...so they extend as far as the bib is long. Plus, as the house is in Seattle where it barely freezes colder than about 25 degrees, and the basement is heated, I am not entirely sure the cold can "get to it". The only way it would be able to freeze in these conditions is is if a hose is left attached over the winter (which is what I suspect the tenant did this year since we have never had trouble with it before). After all this, he FINALLY offered up a price of $725 to replumb the inside configuration and replace the hose bib. Now I am no expert, but this hose bib is threaded on. I know the frost free bibs cost around $50. So, with a trip to the store to buy the parts, and a few hours for removal, thread tape, reinstall and some leak remediation if required, we are looking at MAX a 4 hour job. I am not convinced the piping needs to be completely re-routed... it appears whoever plumbed it originally did a very nice job (good solders, nice copper pipes, over-the-top frost-free bib when not really necessary in Seattle). I don't know what rates plumbers charge per hour, but I am thinking I can do this MUCH cheaper myself (we charge $100 per hour at our professional services business, so for 4 hours my time is only $400) It is a bit inconvenient to travel up to Seattle to do it, but we have friends up there to visit so we can get some R& R too. We have installed a hose nozzle on the hose to keep it from running until we can plan a trip time that is convenient. I wouldn't say you should or should not use this plumber, but be aware that they appear to be instructed to upsell, and might be a better match for people who really aren't capable of fixing things themselves. I am sure they do a very good and thorough job (For $725, they better!). I am somewhat disappointed we spent the $30 estimate fee as I would have hired a plumber in an instant to fix this problem had the price been a little more reasonable (say $300 or so). But I guess we did get a punch list of other "issues" we can consider fixing later on (he recommended a new water heater, re-plumbing the tub, etc.), so as an "inspection fee" I guess it's fine. more

put new seal on toilet tank and installed disposer 2/27/2007

Way over priced! I should have checked out other plumbers before calling them. I will post the invoices with the condo association. There are 70 residents living here who need to be forewarned. The young man who did the work was good at what he does. He ws just following the preset pricing. more
