Gene Johnson has a membership system. For a monthly fee, you can receive lower rates and be given priority when you call in with an emergency. In other words, unless you are a member, after you call, other people can be given priority over you. That is what happened to me when my sink stopped up and I stayed home from work to wait for them and make sure my new floors weren't ruined. They said they'd be there between 2 and 5. They did eventually arrive around 7 after much begging and pleading. I did buy the membership since I would save a few months' membership fee on just that one visit. Or rather, my condo association saved since the problem was outside of my unit. more

I have a 1954 house and am getting my basement ready to rent. The other week, I had the ceiling torn out so the plumber could have access to put in new pipes. Gene Johnson said they could have someone out on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 to take a look at the job. I phoned several times and finally received a call back at 3:30. The plumber said he was running late and asked if 5:30 or 6:00 would work. I'd expressed my disappointment, but agreed. They didn't call back or show up! I would have most likely hired them for the job. I was very upset they wasted my time and most of my Saturday. more

We'd been through a continuous backup problem in our basement (an older townhouse) over 1.5 years. After six backups, lotsa flooding, and two other plumbers who kept giving us either guesswork or no help at all, we'd found Gene Johnson plumbing through a recommendation of a neighbor. Shawn and Jerry showed up (granted an hour and twenty minutes late, but it goes to show how highly I think of their business if I'm still giving them five stars) and came in with their camera which they lowered into the pipe. Shawn walked me through what they were doing every step of the way, and their diagnosis was right on. They were completely professional and totally empathetic to our problem, and not simply there to charge us for showing up. They were also committed to finding out what the problem was right from the start Our condo administrator said that their price for the camera was very reasonable ($400, compared to an average of $600 or more) but it is free with the job when you approve their estimate. I have a healthy distrust of anyone who cannot give me straight answers, concise information, and high quality work; Gene Johnson Plumbing has earned my trust by providing all three. I would recommend them without hesitation. more
