Gary Blows His Top 8/24/2012

Wow. Gary must have been having a rough day today. I have a cheap electric leaf blower that arrived to me from Greenworks dead on arrival (DOA). I called Greenworks, who gave me "Gary's Small Engine Repair" as the closet place to take my DOA blower. I called and talked to someone there (presumably Gary since the place seems to be a sole proprietorship) and explained the issue. He told me to bring it on down and he would look at it. All Greenworks wanted was for Gary's to say that yes, in fact, the blower is dead. Then, Greenworks would just send me a new blower (they didn't even expect the old one back). \r \r So then, imagine my surprise when I arrived and Gary didn't remember ever talking to me, told me he didn't have any connection with Greenworks, and couldn't help me. Period. One would have expected that he might have said, "Gee, I'm sorry you had to make the trip down here", or, "If you have the Greenworks phone #, I'll call them and ask them to remove my name from their list", or more

Wow. Gary must have been having a rough day today. I have a cheap electric leaf blower that arrived to me from Greenworks dead on arrival (DOA). I called Greenworks, who gave me ""Gary's Small Engine Repair"" as the closet place to take my DOA blower. Period. One would have expected that he might have said, ""Gee, I'm sorry you had to make the trip down here"", or, ""If you have the Greenworks phone #, I'll call them and ask them to remove my name from their list"", or something along those lines. \r \r What does he think, that I dreamed up his business name, phone #, and address? There are small repair shops much closer to me than this one. A logical thinker would have figured this out and offered to help in some way. When I pressed the issue (hoping that he would remember, or at least offer to help), he became nasty, calling me an idiot and telling me to leave. When I told him he shouldn't speak to people that way, he chose swear words in place of ""idiot"" that I choose not to repeat here. Over and over again. Not a very good strategy for building relationships. Who knows, maybe someday I might have wanted a real leaf blower and might have bought it from you. It's safe to say I will never go anywhere near there again AND NO ONE ELSE SHOULD GO THERE EITHER. My review seems to be consistent with other reviews (as far as his attitude turning nasty when things aren't going his way). Maybe he's going through a tough time, I don't know. But swearing at people is not likely to earn future business. Definitely NOT recommended. more

sad, but true 8/23/2012

Gary seemed nice enough, and reasonable. I had brought in a gas lawn mower and electric string trimmer. The lawn mower was done in less than a week. He said he didn't do electric tools, but that he would help me out. I said great! Well, he had me look up all the parts and order them. Then he said he needed a bolt that wasn't part of the parts. An .86 cent item I found out had to come directly from the manufacturer and it would cost me $10.00 to ship it. I said to put the old parts back on, that that wasn't the original problem anyway. He said he didn't want to do that because it wasn't "right". He wanted to do it the right way. The next thing I know I get a call from him saying he knows someone at DeWalt where the part comes from and he will get it for me. I get a call to come pick it up. I pick up and several days later try it out. The problem is not fixed. The line keeps feeding out, even with the new line, and all new parts on the head of the trimmer. I call him and asked more

I have had 2 experiences with this business in the last week and they were both positive. The first time the recoil rope for our Echo Hedge Trimmer broke while we pruning the ivy fence - I first called Hitchcock's and it was going to be a week turn around and $35, I called Gardenland and the first question was "did you buy it here" and their service dept was to busy to give me a quote on the cost and lead time. So I see Gary's listing in the YP and give him a call and he quotes me $25 and I drop it off that afternoon and I get a call back the following morning that it is done. That was great now my guy can finish the pruning.\r \r My second experience was this morning when my boss asked me to have his chain saw repaired as there seemed to be an issue with the starter rope not fully retracting. I brought it over to Gary and he said that it might need a new spring, about 4 hrs later I get a call that it was done and that it was "gunked" up with debris and that was the reason it was not ful more

Job well done 7/17/2010

I am very surprised reading about the negative reviews. Early 2009, I took my trimmer there and he repaired the gas lines very well. The price was reasonable and he returned the product on time. He has a printed list of fees for various repairs. In fact, I have made a note to take any other garden equipment that fails back to him. In an economy that tends to throw things out as soon as they break, it is good to have shops like this that can take small jobs. more

Horrible experience 4/30/2010

We've brought Gary repairs for years and have always been satisfied. We recently picked up an item that he was supposed to tune up. After 5 minutes the following day it didn't work. When we returned that same day, he SCREAMED at us "I didn't do it, I only sharpened it." Yet he did charge for a tune up. We never raised our voice, only tried to get an explanation from him. He seemed to have completely lost control and told us not to return, he didn't want us as clients. He is definitely no longer service oriented and seems to be off balance. more
