Top sushi restaurant in Los Angeles County 5/21/2011

After trying over 500 sushi restaurants in LA, I finally found my favorite spot. It's a B- location with A+ quality food. You pay for the fish and not the rent. Service is excellent, whether seated at the bar or at a table with a larger party. One recommendation: do not use the commercial-grade soy sauce with the red or green lids; Chef Saito imports different soy sauces (some aged 10+ years) from around the world, and uses specific sauces to pair with different types of fish, always resulting in a mouth watering combination. more

Very Good & Creative Fish Specials 8/21/2010

My husband & I discovered this place a year ago and have gone several times since. The fish is fresh & they always have unique fish to try on special, Flying Fish, Needle Fish, etc. It's somewhat expensive but, good Sushi always is expensive! more

Amazing! 1/4/2010

Just went there for New Year's Eve and had some of the best sushi I've ever had in LA. So fresh! And delicious combinations. A little expensive, but worth it. And better to go in a group so you can try more! Pros: fresh, unique Cons: slightly expensive more

Great Food! Terrible Service favors japanese clients 1/2/2010

My wife and I have gone to this little hole in the wall for over a year, The food is very good. Very expensive! But still a nice treat once in a while. The last 3 times we have been I have noticed a unique service to the Japanese clients that are dining there. We sat next to a Japanese couple that had received there food for about 10 minutes before the owner even acknowledged us. Than once the order was taken it took another 10-15 before we received it. (there were only about 10 people in the restaurant as well) after we got our food I ordered another roll that took 10 + minutes to get but before i got it another Japanese man walked in sat down and received prompt service,Not sure whats up with the owner, but defiantly something going on here. I have noticed a huge ATTITUDE problem with the owner. he never smiles never says hello. ONLY to his own KIND! Certifiably not worth the money......if the service and attitude suck. To bad! Pros: food Cons: owners attitude more

Best sushi I've ever had 12/7/2008

The only reason one would say they didn't enjoy 4 on 6 is if they must drench their sushi in wasabi, mayo, soy, and other heavy sauce's in order to eat it. Saito knows how to choose the freshest fish and serve it to you with little accents of flavor in order to preserve the actual taste of it. To me it is like a great steak served medium rare, if you drench it in sauce you've ruined it... more

Pure Unadulterated Sushi Bliss 12/2/2007

Chef Saito is the personable, quiet master behind this small traditional sushi spot where they focus on high quality fish accentuated by subtle Japanese flavors. They avoid the California style, lots of chopped and mixed with mayo mixes of two or three kinds of fish, fried in crunchy batter, with eal sauce on top type of appetizery sushi. (Chef Saito laughed at my description of American sushi). The sushi comes prepared as a precise cut over warm rice with a dash of yuzu paste, ponzu sauce, ground sea salt, lemon, shizo leaf, pickled nori, or a hint of wasabi, as appropriate. Pros: Best fish, Chef's theory, Jun (the hilarious server) Cons: Sorry, the imperfections charm me. Small, pricey, can be loud? Reserve Sun. night. more

One of the BEST in LA 10/17/2007

Half of my family is from Japan, and my parents are hard-core foodies, so I literally grew up eating authentic Tokyo-style sushi. I was born and raised in California, so I have tried many different sushi restaurants and I came to this conclusion... This place serves one of the best sushi in LA, hands down. Sure, Nobu and Sushi Roku is fabulous for people who love the hip crowd. But located in a back of a strip mall in Encino, 4 on 6 is an absolute gem, such a great whole in wall. If you want to enjoy delicious sushi made with the freshest ingredients in a chilled out atmoshere (they play live jazz on certain days), you will not be let down. Chef Saito is always at his best w/ what he does, everything he serves is spectacular, and the servers are extremely friendly and attentive. So just sit back, relax, and enjoy some great Tokyo-style sushi with half the Tokyo-style price tag. Pros: great food, friendly service more

Huge Surprise 10/8/2007

Sushi At It's FINEST 5/25/2007

I have been coming to 4 ON 6 for 5 years now . The quality of fish is exquisite. Chef Saito is a sushi master and anyone who has interest in Sushi MUST try this place. I walk in feeling at home, I am treated like a king and the taste ALL the fish is just perfection. Anything you order will be Great, ranging from the Uni all the way to a simple California roll, which is made with real crab. Please disregard the review written two below, as the person who wrote it must be mental or INSANE!!! The Albacore is the best tasting albacore I have tried ANYWHERE...Even better then Nobu in NY, Matsuhisa, Sushi Gen in Downtown LA, or R-23. 4 ON 6 is the best most authentic sushi restaurant outside of Tokyo without having to pay $2000 for the flight. Pros: Customer service, Jazz Music...ALL THE FOOD...Oh and Jun and Saito of course! Cons: Nothing more

Best sushi in LA 5/4/2007

I don't know what the person below is on but he's insane because the food at Four on Six is amazing. I never even liked sushi but I'd go to 4 on 6 with friends and I would always have their diced steak (which is delicious) but Chef Saito slowly introduced me to sushi and now i am hooked. i live all the way in santa monica and drive to encino AT LEAST once a week just for the food at 4 on 6- if thats any indication. The albacore is the best I have ever had and since Chef Saito got me into sushi i have tried, Nobu, Sushi Roku, Hamasaku, Katsu-Ya, Kushiyu and NONE measure up to 4 on 6. It's great. Pros: Food, Service, Sunday Nite Jazz Cons: there are none more

Terrible 3/23/2007

The ONLY reason I gave this place a 2 instead of a 1 is because I did not get sick and they had live music. I ordered the albacore, tuna, toro, and scallop. The Albacore was the WORST I have ever had I wanted to GAG..... it was tough and had a horrid flavor and the chef cut it wrong so it caught on my teeth. The scallop smelled, and the toro was the worst I have ever had. I had read good reviews about it on chowhound so tried it out its the worst sushi I have ever had anywhere. I went back to tama the next day to re-instill my love for sushi since I was soo turned of by this place. Pros: Jazz Band, Didn't get sick Cons: WORST SUSHI EVER more

best sushi in the valley!! 10/6/2006

GO! Chef Saito is creative, original and proud. Much of his fish is ACTUALLY fresh from Japan and he uses special ingredients like Hawaiian salt and special ponzu sauces-- no need for the boring soy sauce! Everything Saito will present you is beautiful, and delicious. Look no further for the best sushi in the valley-- even though there are more than a few sushi joints on Ventura Blvd., this is one worth going to! Pros: food quality, friendly staff more

No Frills Tokyo Style Sushi - just like it oughta be 8/6/2006

the thing about mall-strip digs is that when they are good, they are REAL good. with an amazing selection of live fish (THE OCTUPUS WAS SPOT ON, WITH JUST A HINT OF PINK HAWAIIAN SALT AND FRESH GRATED WASABI) and a staff that makes you feel like you have just come over to a friend's for dinner, this is definetedly THE spot for sushi in the valley. Pros: Fresh, Tokyo Style more

Nobu quality with half price 4/28/2005

The owner, Jazz lover, used to work at very expensive prestigious Japanese restaurant for many years. Now, he fund the way to provide same ( or better) quality with half price. Fish is very flesh and great quality. Finally I fund the perfect sushi bar. more
