Eh. Looks really pretty, but very little space and equipment. ""Stretching Room"" is about the size of an office. There are some actual offices/desks there, but I've yet to see...

Great Experience Every Time 8/30/2011

Coming to Rain Fitness I have a great experience every time. That along keeps me coming back. Thanks more

Attentive staff 8/17/2011

The staff is always available, helpful and courteous! They offer consistently good service and training sessions. more

Great gym 8/17/2011

Clean gym and the staff is friendly and keeps everything picked up. Personal trainers seem to work very well with clients, but aren't ""selling"" services like other gyms. I have never had any issues with payment or membership. There are plenty of machines and for the most part they are always available. Keep up the good work crew! more

Great Facility, Poor Customer Service 4/22/2011

I joined Rain Fitness in April, 2011 at the Terry Street location using a ValPak coupon for a $32.99 per month membership. The coupon stated there were no enrollment fees, however they informed there would be a $69 ""processing fee"". The day after I thought I joined, I received an email from the general manager ""Glen"" that the coupon required me to enroll in personal training sessions to get that $32.99 price, which wasn't stated on the coupon. He also stated he would be refunding all the initial membership charges of $147.81 back to my credit card. If I wanted to rejoin, it would be $45.99 per month. After reading some other reviews of this gym, perhaps they were doing me a favor by letting me out of the contract with a full refund. more

So Disappointed... 3/1/2011

If I could rate this 0 I would. I am so disappointed in my experience with this gym. I have been a member of Rain since they opened about 4 years ago. Their facility is ok, the classes were great and the view was nice so I stayed. Slowly over the years the monthly fee crept up while the facilities went down hill (They did open a new SLU gym which is a big improvement for them, still lacks a lot of basics though). They don't provide the bare necessities, i.e. towel service or clean bathrooms. I got a Herniated Disc last year which caused me to stop working out. Rather than give up my perk of using both gyms for the price of one standard membership ( I was grandfathered in because I had been there for so long) I kept paying my monthly dues and not attending. Finally when I decided to end my membership I assumed it would be an easy process. I was hugely mistaken. I called a few days before the end of the month thinking I could simply do it over the phone. I was informed I would need to come in. I woke up in a panic on the 1st of the month realizing I hadn't been in yet. I called at 8 am to make sure they wouldn't charge my card. I was told I would be charged for this month no matter what because their contract requires a 30 day advance notice. I asked that Glen call me back to speak with me about this. Then I informed them I wouldn't be able to make it in until 5:45 that evening, and asked they not charge my account until this is resolved. When I arrived at the gym I was told there was no way around it and that my card had been charged. Glen (who obviously saw me and knew who I was and what was going on) avoided me and walked away. I called as soon as I got home to ask for a copy of my original contract. I was told first that their account manger takes care of that but she's not sure when she would be in next. Then I was told Glen is the one who handles that and he couldn't get to it until Friday. In addition I would have to come back to the gym to pick it up (for those who don't know it's on one of the busiest roads in Seattle, it takes 10 minutes just to cross the street). Glen could not care less about his customers other than getting collecting his monthly check. I am so incredibly disappointed that was the last experience I had with a gym I've been going to for 4 years. more

Problem is Cancellation with Glen. 10/10/2010

I don't know if the owner, Glen, would remember me, but I am the guy he lied to about ending my membership early. The fact that I moved 14 miles away, not the required amount didn't seem to be a good enough reason for a clean break. So lame. more

Overpriced, poor service 9/16/2010

Eh. Looks really pretty, but very little space and equipment. ""Stretching Room"" is about the size of an office. There are some actual offices/desks there, but I've yet to see anyone in there. Reps have been polite, in my experience, but there never seem to be enough of them. Really, 1 person at the desk, even during the after work rush? Come ON now! Almost $80 is expensive for what it is. They don't provide towel service: towels are $2 every time you need one, otherwise you have to bring your own. They also don't provide any shampoo/conditioner in the showers...which have the water pressure of a quietly babbling brook. I've only seen 2 fitballs. None of these are deal-breakers in and of themselves, but I think it's a bit ridiculous to charge that much and then have poor facilities with no extras. The shower was really what irritated me--it sucks to leave the gym with soap in your hair because there's not enough water pressure in their showers to wash, rinse and repeat. Had I known about that before I joined, I definitely would have looked elsewhere. So overall, yes it's a gym, the equipment is decent and it's generally clean, but those things should be available at any gym, not one that charges as if it's a ""premium"" sports club. more

Good Gym for a Great Price 6/10/2010

Working out at rain fitness makes me happy! It is beautiful, clean (the staff is always cleaning and members wipe down stuff after they use it too). There's a great line up of classes ... zumba, spin, yoga, etc. The staff has always been polite, and many know me by name. I read my contract before I signed up so I know that it's 12 months, then month to month and first and last are charged upfront. That's pretty standard for all the gyms I've belonged to or checked out. Plus rain has been around for 5 yrs. I feel confident it'll make it through this tough recession and not leave me hanging or change hands multiple times like others in the neighborhood or close to where I work downtown. Some of the comments on here are interesting. It makes me think they want WAC (Washington Athletic Club) amenities for a Walmart price ... and that they think the gym should not be for profit. It's a contract, and just because you don't want it anymore doesn't mean you can just walk away scott free ... try that with your car payment or mortgage payment contract (although there are enough freeloaders out there doing that with homes and cars they couldn't afford in the first place). My two cents. Do yourself a favor and join a great gym ... rain fitness. more

The Real Rain Fitness 4/9/2010

I have been a fair weather gym gal for many years. I would sign up at a new gym then work out for a month or so and lose interest. Rain Fitness has been a God send for me. I have been a member there for two years now. Right away at the beginning the manager sat down with me and helped me create a constructed plan on how to obtain my fitness goals. Never once in any of the other gym that I went to did anyone even try to do this. With a little help of a personal trainer and the plan they helped me set up in the beginning, I’ve lost every pound to hit my goal weight plus a few more on my own. I’m feeling really proud and confident these days. It’s a far cry from my fair weather gym days. I also have to add that in the two years I’ve been a member, the club is as consistently clean as the day I stepped through the door. This is another reason I keep coming back to Rain. I feel really safe and inspired there. Thank you Rain! Pros: Beautiful Place, Wonderful People, The Best Equipment, Clean more

Beware current and prospective members 2/19/2010

Current Rain members: SUBMIT YOUR CANCELLATION REQUEST IN-PERSON, IN-WRITING, 60 DAYS PRIOR TO THE END OF YOUR CONTRACT.\r \r Do not listen to the staff members that tell you anything otherwise. Do not assume that any staff member at the front desk knows anything about the cancellation policies. Do not call to ask questions, as you will not be able to talk to anyone that knows what they're talking about. Just make the effort to go into the club to do it in person or you will not -- under ANY circumstances - get out of your contract on time.\r \r I had the heads up on cancelling early, so shame on me. I called in mid-December to cancel a membership ending mid-Feb, and was told to call -- by a staff member -- in 30 days. I put this date on my Outlook calendar, and did just that. I called in mid-January, and talked to a different staff member who didn't know what I should do. I was put on hold while she asked, and she came back to tell me that I either had to come in, or to mail it in writing. I asked when they needed this by, and she said to do it in the next couple of weeks. She should have said to come in that very day. As I now know, the managers at Rain will NOT make right any incorrect actions towards the cancellation policy -- even actions that were taken due to misinformation given by THEIR staff members. I guess they'd rather take a customer's money than have them leave with good things to say about their club. \r \r The only redeeming quality about this club is Priscilla, who is the bomb. But she also works at other clubs, so you'd be best served to find her there. Pros: Some classes, not very crowded Cons: There's a reason it's not so crowded more

Great Gym, Abundance of Clean Equipment, Nice People 1/2/2010

I've been a member of rain for almost 4 years. I've worked out at both gyms. They both have lots of equipment that is clean (staff always cleaning, and members are pretty good about wiping equipment down after they use it). The variety of classes included with your membership are lots of fun and vary in intensity so you can match your workout ability. There are also some additional classes you can pay for (bootcamps, pilates - high end individual sessions & equipment and small group classes, etc.). The staff has always been warm and welcoming. And the price and contract is very similar to what other gyms offer ... I know as I shopped them all (in the neighborhood) before I joined and each year to make sure I'm not missing out on anything. I personally haven't heard any members complain about classes, contract, payments, etc. just lots of happy, nice people in a non-meat market type of place. Pros: Great classes, nice people, CLEAN, competitive price Cons: Nothing is perfect, but for the price this place is close more

nice looking gym, horrible customer service 1/1/2010

Hello, I was a member of Rain fitness for over two years. During that time I have witnessed horrible customer service, as well as bad behavior by the management there. The owner will milk your pockets for everything he can get, and fires his best employees if they have any good ideas on how he should run his clubs. He also sleeps with his employees, and is currently engaged to one of his personal trainers. She is in her early twenties, he is in his forties. Gross. I have been overcharged seven times on my monthly rate, and quit working out there two months ago. Pros: clean modern gym Cons: awful management more

Stay Away! Horrible Customer Service by Stafff and General Manager! 2/24/2009

(First post on CitySearch)\r \r Stay away! \r \r Horrible customer service from the staff and general manager. When discussing with the staff a double charge on my credit card they said they were not able to help and to take it up with the manager.\r \r After following up with the general manager, Glen, he said that all he could do was credit my account another free month. Surprised by this, I reiterated that it was a bad charge and I was not interested in a free month - adding that if he didn't reverse the charge I would notify my credit card. He tried to tell me that if I disputed the charge they would take me to collections.\r \r Needless to say I am frustrated with the lack of customer service. I'm disputing the charge through my credit card as I believe this is an illegal issue as well.\r \r Aaron Lauper Pros: close to work, new facility Cons: horrible customer service from the staff and manager more

Best gym in Seattle. 11/30/2007

I've been a member of several gyms in 4 different cities and the new Rain on Lake Union is the nicest one I've ever seen. \r \r Normally you'd only see facilties and amenities like this in a 4 Star hotel or a private health club. It's the best deal you'll get in a quiet area, easy to park. more

Great Trainers, Horrible Management 11/28/2007

I've been incredibly disappointed with my experience, mostly because of exceptionally poor customer service from the management team. I hate to give this gym such a poor review because my personal trainer is fantastic, she's really knowledgeable and a great motivator, but unfortunately that's been overshadowed by other things.\r \r Clearly, the gym opened before it was ready. On several visits, the gym has been under construction, workers cutting up pieces of metal equipment (which made a horrible screeching noise and emitted awful, metal-on-metal odors), re-programming treadmills and forcing me off of my machine in order to do so, and painting walls (again emitting fumes; probably not good while people are working out and breathing heavily). I went to a scheduled kickboxing class, which they canceled and neglected to inform anyone until five minutes after the scheduled start time as everyone waited, wondering when or if the instructor would show. As a previous poster noted, the stretching room is the size of a closet, and parking validation is quite limited and restricted.\r \r I urge anyone still interested in joining this gym to do a pre-paid membership if at all possible because they make it extremely difficult to cancel a month-to-month, automatic-debit membership, and will continue charging you for a membership until you jump through all the crazy hoops they devise. Unexpectedly, I'm moving almost 1,000 miles away, and even though they have a clause that allows someone to cancel membership if relocating more than 25 miles away, they're making it ridiculously difficult to get out of my contract, in addition to taking on a very condescending and passive-aggressive attitude toward me since I requested the cancellation. At Rain's more established location in Queen Anne, other Citysearch users have reported similar problems. Take caution. Pros: Great trainers, new equipment, new facility Cons: Limited classes, rude management, under construction more

Nice gym, but could change the following... 11/13/2007

I like the space - it's clean and has new equipment. I recommend the new Rain, however take the following into consideration before joining:\r \r 1. There are no fans in the main exercize room and it gets HOT. \r 2. The ""stretching room"" is the size of a walkin closet.\r 3. Must bring own lock to use on large lockers - would be helpful if they had small combo locks for wallet and keys.\r 4. Parking is only validated if you arrive and depart the garge between 530am-830am. If you leave the garage at 8:31am, the garge will not honor your validation. Parking is also validated after 5pm. There is no sigange posted about the validation rules, so be sure to ask the front desk.\r 5. No spin class will be offered. \r \r 6. As I have read in past postings about their Queen Anne location, the owner is indeed not very nice or open to suggestions (I had an unpleasant run-in with him on one of the first days they were open). Good luck! Pros: New, Clean, Nice equipment Cons: Small stretching space, no fans, parking only validated during peak hours more
