I chose Elephant Moving because of the high ratings they received. However, we soon realized the ratings may not tell the whole story. I have moved a number of times in the past and this has been, by far, the worst experience of all. This is the first time I had such bad service that I felt compelled to complain.\r

Elephant Moving, Inc. moved our furniture and belongings earlier this year. In preparation I contacted Elephant moving and had them perform an onsite walkthrough of my house before the move in order to receive an accurate estimate of the move, allow them to gauge the amount of items needing to be moved, and in general to help the move go smoothly. \r
\r
The day of the move Elephant Moving brought a truck that was too small to hold all of my goods (they claim it was the largest they had, which I wish I was aware of BEFORE I chose them to move us). I was surprised because they had come to the house to do a visual before the move and there was no reason to have brought a truck that was too small. \r

At first the company wanted to charge for either a second trip for the first truck, or a $100 to bring the second truck. After 45 minutes of discussion (during which the movers were pretty much doing nothing), Elephant Moving agreed to bring the second truck at no cost, although I still lost the time that was spent resolving the issue. As a result they ended up having to bring a second truck and had strapped a number of items to the back of the first truck before they left. One of the items was my barbeque grill, which during the trip to the new house actually fell off the truck into the road and was severely damaged.\r
\r
Once all of the items finally arrived to our new house the mover put an 8 inch gash across 3 or 4 boards in the wood flooring while setting up a chair in the living room. The flooring is $13/sq ft and the labor cost to fix each board according to the quote I received was $95/board. \r

Realizing the extent of the damage of those two items, as well as two other items (my child’s soccer goal and a glass pitcher), I took pictures and filed a complaint with Elephant Moving. I quickly received a response that by law I would receive an offer within 90 days of the receipt of the complaint. After 92 days I wrote an email to Elephant Moving notifying them that they were delinquent in responding and I would be filing a complaint if either I did not receive a response, or the offer was not acceptable. Two days later I received a response from Elephant Moving with an offer of $42 for the grill, nothing for the soccer goal or pitcher, and $50 for the damage to the flooring. \r

Bottom line, don't believe the ratings. Brian, the guy who answers the phone, is great and so were the movers, but beyond that I question how they are able to stay in business. To compound the injury of damaging our stuff they waited as long as they possibly could before trying to settle the complaint. There is no reason to have not been upfront about the size of their trucks especially since they did an on site visual! There are too many good movers out there, don't take a chance with this one.
Pros: The phone rep and movers were actually really friendly
Cons: Poor customer service from all others
