My Con of 'I can't make a short trip out of it' basically means that when I walk in, no less than two of the staff ask how the tank is doing. They all know me, know my tank, and know what I have going on in it.
I frequent all of the LFS's and have to say that Cindy, the manager, is absolutely fantastic. She's changed the way the store is run from the prior ownership, and although she doesn't know everything, she's not afraid to tell me that she doesn't know and she'll have to research it. That is something that I will always respect very highly. (I don't do bs well..)
Regarding water quality... I've had very small systems, where water quality MUST be perfect as shocking a system can make things go horribly wrong. Measuring with a TDS meter, I've only seen it go up to 5, (yes, I measure every jug), and upon further research, it was because i had not properly rinsed the container after a recent deep water change. (Had two 5 gallon jugs, one measured 1, one measured 5, both acquired same day from DU).
As for fish -- They keep them in quarantine for no less than 3 days. If you're not doing a fresh water dip of your fish when you get them regardless of where you bought them, then you should be doing that anyways. The acclimation process described by DU to me is the most time consuming, but least stressful on the fish, that has ever been recommended to me.
I highly recommend this store to anybody interested in the hobby, and if you have problems, bring it up, just be open to the fact that it *might* actually be your own doing...
Pros: Great selection, clean tanks, personable staff
Cons: I can't seem to make a 'short trip' out of it....
