Best

II am a groomer, pet sitter, dog walker etc. I have taken my beagle to many of the local doggie daycare facilities and Daltons is HANDS DOWN THE BEST! When I leave my dog at Dalto...

Worst

ZERO STARS should be an option. Unforgiveable. My baby was four - healthy. Now he's gone. Town of Grafton and Board of Health should SHUT THEM DOWN.

Thanks for all the reviews, I am looking to board my adopted pug for the first time since I adopted him 2yrs ago. I am a nervous dog mommy so these great reviews have really helped me chose. I am going to try to get him into Dalton's Cherrywood Kennel. \r \r And to BeKindtoAnimals, if your dog was only there a week and lost so much weight as you say then he was losing the weight before he was boarded and I hope you took him to the vet right away because there is something wrong with him, it has nothing to do with not eating enough for only a week. more

Amazing staff! We've been leaving our dog at Dalton's for years and they have always taken great care of him. This year, our dog got sick while at Dalton's. The staff took amazing care of him and actually provided everything he needed to recover. more

I love Dalton's and so does my dog, Kona. He gets to run around with other dogs there all day long and comes home absolutely exhausted which I love :) They are always excited when we show up and take him no matter when we call. We've since moved out of the area and wish they were closer because we totally love them! Keep up the great work!! more

Dalton's is one of the best kennels i've ever been too!! My 3 dogs love going to visit all their friends at the kennel. The kennel always has the dogs outside so whoever said that they keep them inside obviously doesn't know what they were talking about. I love Dalton's Cherrywood Kennel and i will always bring my dogs there more

This place is the best place to bring your ADHD lab. Our lab Brody can't wait to go to daycare and hates leaving. He is always tired for days when he comes home. Daltons does a great job and has a great staff!!! more

II am a groomer, pet sitter, dog walker 5/26/2012

II am a groomer, pet sitter, dog walker etc. I have taken my beagle to many of the local doggie daycare facilities and Daltons is HANDS DOWN THE BEST! When I leave my dog at Daltons, I am confident in the fact that a well trained PROFESSIONAL supervises him during his stay. The entire staff from the groomers to the yard people are kind, affectionate, and most importantly experienced animal experts. \r \r \r \r Many local daycare/boarding facilities claim to have â??knowledgeable staffs"" that understand dog behavior; this is not the case. My dog sustained injuries at a competitorâ??s facility and will never go back.\r \r \r \r There is a reason Daltons has been in business 50+ years. Dorothy knows dogs and her facility is clean, well run, and WONDERFUL! more

Great doggie daycare 12/7/2010

I have been a customer of Daltons for over 20 yrs, our dogs always had the best care, never to this day have i ever have smelled,as well as seen poop all over the place. In fact if one has an accident in the driveway, they are told and is immediately cleaned. I am presently a dog walker and i bring Lola a very high energy, with separation problems, since going to daltons, she no longer has that problem, loves her friends, when she gets cold, I find they put a sweater on her and make sure she dosen:t stay out too long, I wouldn;t take her or my dogs , if i thought she wasn""t being taken care of, the girls are great, and the facility is always clean, and lola loves going there. to anyone who has never been, check it out first, make your own decision, they certainly do not deserve to be shut down, and the girls do not deserve to lose their jobs. more

Love this kennel!! An absolute gem!! 9/20/2010

This kennel, hands down, is one of the best around. The staff is extremely courteous and very knowledgeable. They have genuine care and concern for the dogs there. My puppy has been going to daycare there for over a month now and I have NEVER seen the place dirty. The staff has been wonderful, they know my dog just as well as I do. My puppy cannot WAIT to get there every morning. I feel completely comfortable leaving my baby there everyday (and I am one very overprotective dog mom) knowing that she's getting tons of attention, affection, and playtime. I cannot sing the praises enough of this place and the people that work here. My puppy is a happy, healthly, fun loving little girl and I know half the reason is because of coming to Dalton's everyday. These ladies are fantastic!! I have had some pretty awful experiences with other kennels so I definitely know this one is a gem. Also a quick rebuttal in defense of the ladies at the kennel having a ""bad attitude"", I worked in retail for many, many years and there are just some customers that will never be happy even if you hand them a sack of golden bars. Some people just like to argue for the sake of arguing and can't see through it. These ladies have been nothing short of fantastic, friendly, professional, and absolutely know what they're doing and do it well. Cheers to Dalton's and I look forward to being a customer for many years to come!! more

Don't Leave Your Pet With These People! 7/19/2010

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. That is how terrible their customer service is. My family's golden has had to go to Dalton's kennel a couple times due to us leaving on family vacations (never our first choice, trust me). The people working there always would say things about how our dog was not ""clean"" enough, etc, but our dog spends a lot of time up at our cabin running around the forest, so he is not a perfectly clean show dog. However, he is not gross or filthy by any means - he is a happy dog. This weekend we picked him up and was greeted by a worker with a serious attitude problem. We did not want our dog in the pick up room unrestrained with another dog in the room, as ours is quite protective. When it was mentioned that we wanted our dog on a leash the worker said, ""why?... he does fine with dogs"". We know, but we know him better than you. It then came time to pay the bill. Upon learning that the bill was $100.00+ what they originally said the total was, the worker quickly became aggravated and said ""I knew this would be a problem"" with a KILLER eye roll and sigh. Upon saying that we were never given a receipt at the drop off time, the worker became even more aggravated and kept saying ""there is nothing I can do, I am the one in charge, the owner is gone.. there is nothing I can do"". If the owner is gone and you can not do anything, then why not call the owner? If you can not do anything, then you are not ""in charge"". The worker got so agitated that being in that room was just unbearable. The worker was rude. The worker was told that she was being rude. There was no apology, just humphs, grunts, sighs, eye rolls, and her yelling. Totally unprofessional and unnecessary. Need I add that later in the day we received a phone call from the owner who greeted us on the phone by saying, ""I hear that you had some terrible things to say about me today?"", when we never once said anything negative about the owner. Terrible customer service. if you ever wonder why they have been able to take your dog so late minute... this is why. They may treat the dogs well, who knows... we cant see them with the dogs. But we do know that they treat their customers terribly, and we aren't the only ones. DALTON CURRENTLY HAS AN ""F"" RATING BY THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (BBB). Do not give them your business, there are far better places in Shrewsbury and surrounding towns. Don't waste your time or your money. If you love your animal, you wont leave them with people who don't know how to handle their aggression. God forbid they take it out on your pet. Cons: Rude & terrible customer service more

Wonderful Facility...counter post to BeKindtoAnimals 7/16/2010

I beg to differ. Our 1.5 yr old weim has been to different doggie day care locations and we have been extremely happy with Dalton's. I have never seen ""Large amounts of poop"" in the past year. Maybe one or two a month, but please, don't exaggerate.\r Price is actually the same, if not lower than other places. This is a kennel style boarding so if your dog has not been w/o you in the past then yes, they may suffer from various types of separation anxiety (which, from the sound of it, it may have some anxiety issues to begin with). You might want to consider non-kennel boarding in the future if you want a more ""comfort of home"" environment. Dalton's does not charge ridiculous fees for the things they already include, unlike other facilities in Sudbury and other towns. Feel free to try places that charge additional fees for extra one on one time with your dog, special treats, bigger kennel, or extra outdoor time.\r While not everyone may be the dog whisperer or have a background in dog psychology, the ladies at Dalton's love being with the dogs and know their personalities. To me, that is more important than landscaping. With 30+ dogs barking, some are not responsive to basic training commands/corrections.\r I can verify that they do sanitize each day since I see them cleaning when I pick up my dog at 4:30pm.\r I actually feel that the team there does not get praised or thanked enough. Knowing that our dog is extremely happy, receives the proper exercise and stimulation while under watchful eyes is what is important. Perhaps you need to address the anxiety/behavioral issues your dog is dealing with. Anyhow, it sounds more like you are personally attacking vs. judging the facility for what they actually provide.\r With regard to the weight loss, if she would not eat, could it be possible that there is an underlying health issue or something parasitic? I'm sure the staff would have noticed that your dog was not eating or lost half their weight as they are all dog owners and very caring individuals themselves. \r As a daycare customer, we are very pleased with their service and are looking forward to bringing our 2nd puppy to them in the next 2 weeks. This from a couple who are IT Professionals, parents, and in the local area who have tried 4 other Doggie Day Care locations in the area and can truly compare from many different perspectives and most importantly, have an open mind\r Pros: plenty of yard space, they care about the dogs Cons: Can I use them to watch my child too? j/k more

Horrible, Horrible Kennel 7/12/2010

We left our sweet sight hound mix at Dalton's for a week recently...and so, so regret it. This place and the staff are horrible. While on the phone booking the stay, and while checking in, the staff screamed at dogs. When picking our dog up, the owner apologized to a woman that they had screamed at a dog while on the phone with her and made up an excuse as to why, so it seems to be the way they treat animals regularly. I am not confident that they know much about animal behavior and how to treat animals. Large amounts of old poop on the ground, so very unclean. When brought to owners attentions she got mad. Cannot talk with her to get information or express concerns or she gets mad. Biggest concern was that when we picked up our dog she was so thin...actually lost half her weight and could see bones. She is only a small hound dog, and thin to begin with, so with the wt loss we were very concerned. Owner of course told us, as she seems to tell everyone...oh, she did great. We would have appreciated a call letting us know she would not eat and wonder how attentive and if they even noticed. They did not even bring it to our attention when they brought her to us to check out. To us it was startling. Also, more expensive per day than the website says. Expensive compared to other local places. Poor care. Dirty. Poor service. Owner angers easily. Lack of understanding of animal behavior and that it is not good to scream at nervous dogs who are away from home. Run from this place. Do not put your animal there. We have had better luck and care elsewhere. Pros: Has openings so can take your dog Cons: poop laying all over, screams at dogs, not attentive to dogs more

My dog and I LOVE Daltons Kennel! 2/15/2010

I have been bringing my dog to Daltons for two years now and I have never had a problem with them. The staff is amazing and loves the dogs. They have been able to board her last minute and even keep her overnight when I've originally sent her for daycare. At the mere mention of doggy day care my dog is at the door spinning in circles ready to go. She cant wait to get in the door when we get there and she doesnt want to leave when I pick her up. They've always been helpful in suggesting ideas with behavior issues and they have been more than accomodating. I would recommend them to anyone and if you want to check in on the dogs they have a web cam. Keep in mind when reviewing some of the prior comments, that no matter what place you take your dog, there will always be someone who has had an unplesant experience. The same goes for anywhere that you go in which you receive service. No one is perfect and no business is perfect. I personally have recommended them to friends and they have had nothing short of friendly service and quality care for their dogs. Pros: My dog is happy and loved and is excited to go. Cons: Cries and looks out the back window when we leave. more

Fantastic Kennel 2/11/2009

I have been bringing my dog, a sheltie, to Daltons Kennel for almost 5 years now, and I've never once had her come home upset or frightened. She even tries to get back into the room to play with the her doggy friends and see the girls when she is released in the office to me. If one of the girls that works there happens to be in the drive way upon our arrival, I literally have to let the leash go and she races right down the drive way to them to to greet them with kisses! They do a beautiful job grooming her, also. And to comment on a previous review-- I happen to know that they DO in fact REQUIRE a copy of the dogs vaccination records because I was required to bring a copy of mine in with me, and they have requested updated info. since! I've never had one complaint in all 5 years that I've been bringing her! I highly recommend bringing your dog to this facility. Very friendly and caring staff!!! And the dogs have a blast!! (which you can see for yourself becaues they have a viewing window from the office to see all the dogs playing about in all the yards!!). Pros: My dog loves the place, I can watch her and her friends play on their web cam, the staff is extremely friendly!! more

We LOVE them! 1/27/2009

The people here couldn't be nicer! They love my dog... and my dog loves them!! He goes to Daycare twice a week ( for about 8 months now) and will literally run down the driveway in anticipation. I've watched him on their webcam from work and can see first hand that he is outside playing and having fun. In the summer he is outside most of the day ( with supervision) but he does get a rest period and lunch that I supply. I'm unclear how another reviewer can claim that there was no verification of vaccines because I was required to supply this before we brought the dog there. The animals sleep on some rather expensive trampoline beds in secluded shaded areas to prevent overheating.. but ultimately, I know the care is top notch because my dog can be nervous and shy around people and he is always happy when we go. If he was mistreated there he would react negatively. This is one of the best thing we've done for our pet! Pros: Great staff and LARGE outdoor play areas Cons: none that I've seen more

Horrible- NOT a safe place for pets!!! 10/7/2008

If you care about your pet- DO NOT take them to this horrible place! I would post pictures of the injuries that my dog received while boarded at Dalton's but I don't see a place to do so. I had taken my dog to Dalton's for daycare and trusted them to provide quality weekend care for my baby while I was away at a wedding. When I picked him up, not only was he frightened and agitated- both of his elbows were swollen to the size of a golf ball and he had open sores on both of them. I demanded to see where he was kept the past two nights and was shown a small kennel with a wet cement floor with a ""bed"" in it. This ""bed"" consisted of a semi-hard piece of plastic coating (almost like plastic canvas) stretched over PVC piping that was not only too small for my dog, but took up almost the entire floor of the kennel he was in so that that was the only thing for him to lay on. There was no soft bedding, nothing. I don't know if the swellings are from infections from the open sores or joint issues from where he was kept. When I complained, Dorothy Dalton herself refused to investigate her facilities to make them better for the next patron and defended her kennel. Quite rudely I might add. Her manager actually told me not to ""get pis@* with her"" when I originally expressed my frustration at picking my dog up in this terrible condition. Again, I have pictures and I wish that I could post them here to show you. I feel horrible for making my dog sleep in such a terrible place for two nights. Please- never take your pet to this awful place. Pros: None- it is not a safe place for pets more

use it at your risk 9/27/2008

If can turn a blind eye to the fact that dogs are warehoused (there are no limits on how many dogs go to ""daycare') because you need a convenient place to drop your dog off for the day, then this is the place for you. The owner does not ask for verification of rabies/kennel cough vaccinations, which is another sign of a business run as a cash cow. It is unclear that there is any supervision for ""daycare"" by staff or that dogs actually use the daycare yard; I often suspected my dog was placed in a kennel for the day. We no longer use this service. The last time we had our dog groomed there, he came home with sizeable razor burns, which was, in fact the last straw. Pros: convenience Cons: qualtiy of the service more

Best kennel around town!!!! 11/26/2007

Dalton's Cherrywood Kennel is an excellent kennel. I have been bringing my dog there for the past 6 years and i have never once had a problem. They ACTUALLY let the dogs out to play! I love the staff there, they are always very nice and willing to answer any question i may have for them. I will continue to bring my dogs there for the rest of my life! more

Owner Message
  • It all started in Grafton Ma. in 1962. Like so many pioneers in their respected fields, Dorothy Dalton is self taught, learning from experience and the love of animals. Unknowingly Dorothy began her career by grooming her own miniature poodle. Soon she was grooming her friends and neighbors pets. The response was so overwhelming the Daltons converted their garage into a full service grooming facility. As the years progressed so did business. Mrs. Dalton now divides her time between Shrewsbury and Florida. When in Shrewsbury, she along with her highly trained dedicated staff, is a hands-on owner operating the longest established and finest grooming and boarding facility for cats and dogs in the metro west area. As a successful breeder of multiple miniature and standard poodle champions; Mrs. Dalton is a highly respected International Dog Show Judge for the American Kennel Club, judging the Toy, Non-Sporting Groups and Best in Show brings to her clients a lifetime of experience with a wealth of knowledge in the understanding of the love and needs of all the pets in her care. Mrs. Dalton and her staff are dedicated professionals assuring compassionate professional care for all animals and also to provide education to all responsible pet owners who wish to seek it. The cycle has come full circle at Daltons Cherrywood Kennel. We are now caring for many second and third generation clients who have followed their parent’s footsteps and come with their children to seek the very same high level of care and service for their beloved pets.. We feed Purina Pro Plan or you may bring your dog's own pre-packaged favorite food at no additional charge.
