What an amazing night for Lori’s Bday! Hats off to Kevin, Chef Paul, Megan and all the staff that took such great care of us. All in attendance were blown away by the entire event...

Worst

Cullen's was our New Year's Eve destination, having searched for restaurants that would be open for the evening. We were happy that Cullen's was also located on our side of town...

Nice Place! Marginal Food &Service 7/11/2008

The concept is upscale dining experience in Pasadena,Clear Lake and the layout is beautiful! The food is pricey and the portions are tiny. I had a pecan pie a la mode that looked like it came from a vending machine. The service was very slow. For +/- $100 a person , I'm out! more

nice place try out but.... 7/5/2008

My wife and I live in the area and had been waiting for Cullen's to open their doors so we would have another nice restaurant to frequent w/o driving downtown. The scenary is very nice and the wine tablet is a neat idea, but straight to the point. Now I am a guy who loves my flip flops and shorts and t-shirts, but was under the impression this place would be a business, casual dining experience. We are there and not decked out by any means but nice pants and shirt and my wife in a nice bouse and pants. Low and behold walks in and right by our table is a man in flip flops and shorts and a black ""SCORPION"" concert shirt, are you kidding me. I can imagine how this must sound not knowing what type of people my wife and I are and we are very casual people, believe me. Then another man and his wife sits next to us and this guy has on a red hanes t shirt and shorts and flip flops. It is a business casual establishment but they , being in this area , understand people may have come from their beach house to dine or off of their boat, and quite possibly didn't have that specific attire w/ them. I know , I know , their money is as good as mine anywhere and you are absolutely correct but when you are expecting to have a dining experience that would reflect the type of place this seemed to be then you understand my point and please enforce the dress code. We will not be back any time soon and when we do go back, I'll be sure to wear my black sabbath shirt and black (chucks)converse shoes and blue jeans w/ bandana's on 'em. In all expect food that is good( not great) but a beautiful atmosphere, our service was good, and the sommelier was informative , and hopefully they will have this problem corrected in the near future. Is it a Chili's or is it the ""upscale dining "" they promised, cause those aren't Chili's prices on the entree's. more

A work in progress... 6/30/2008

So when dining at Cullen's you have to take the service with a grain of salt. This is a restaurant that needs to be supported through their growing pains so that the Clear Lake/Pasadena area can continue its culinary growth. The food is fabulous. The menu is well thought out and diverse. The homemade Lamb Sausage and Sweetbreads are to die for. Unfortunately, the staff is comprised of Chili's employees and not fine dining vets. Give it some time and this place will get it right. Pros: Food, Electronic Wine List Cons: Service, Values on Wine List more

Some of the best food in the Clear Lake Area 6/27/2008

Went there for a business dinner with a large group and really enjoyed the food. The service was very iffy with it taking almost 30 minutes for them to take our food order; in fact we had to ask for the menus after sitting there for 10 minutes. This is a very unique restaurant that would fit much better in downtown Houston than on the border of Clear Lake and Pasadena. \r \r As far as the food, since this was a business dinner so all I had was an entree and went with their Prime New York Strip which was good but came out Mid Rare rather than the ordered Blue. Also tasted the Hot Smoked Salmon and it was very good. I hope it will survive but given its size and location I have to wonder especially considering on a Thursday night there were only three or four tables and the place felt empty. I will definitely be going back to try some more of their items, especially the $12 Frito Pie. Pros: Nice Selection, especially given the area Cons: Iffy Service more

Amazing Setting, Good Food, Poor Service 6/25/2008

Cullens is quite awesome from a visual perspective. The decor and setup make this a landmark destination. The food was very good too. This review could have easily been 5 stars but service was very poor. \r \r Our waiter was very rushed, didn't ever check on us and pretty much only took our orders and gave a bill. We were without water for some time and had to ask other staff for help. He obviously didn't care about our experience and we noticed he was the same with other customers. \r \r Pros: Beautiful restaurant, good food Cons: Poor Service more

Good Food, Not-So-Good Service 6/25/2008

Loved the food! The lamb ($32) was very tasty and moist. The halibut ($19) with couscous was delicious too! A small bowl of lobster bisque ($12) tasted better once you poured the whole bottle of the cream they provided. The Italian soda (skinny glass for $4) was too sour and didn't have enough pomegranate juice and the waiter spilled most of our drink and didn't even bother to either take it off our tab or bring us another drink. I don't remember if he even apologized. We hardly were paid any attention by our waiter. I would understand if the place was packed, but the place was almost empty for a Thursday night. He wasn't that friendly and hardly ever smiled. In fact, he seemed annoyed when we were first greeted. For an upscale restaurant, I thought the waiter would've been a little more cheerful and the utensils on the table would have at least been clean. All in all, it was average in my book. I guess I expected a little bit more for an upscale restaurant. Pros: Large Waterfront soon-to-be built in the front lot Cons: Waiter hardly paid us any attention & charged us for a drink he spilled more

Best Fine Dining Deal in Houston 6/24/2008

I love this restaurant! I live in the Uptown area and I frequently make the (shorter-than-you-think) drive out to Cullen's for an amazing meal at a fraction of the price you would pay if this restaurant were located closer to town. I love the attention to detail. On my last visit I was celebrating a promotion. My boyfriend must have mentioned it because the host staff congratulated me when we checked in for our reservation. Food suggestions I would make are the Frito Pie (not to be missed), the Goat Cheese Salad, the Braised Short Ribs, or ANY steak and I haven't even tried most of the menu! The cocktails are mixed perfectly every time, and their wine list offers many selections around the $50 mark. The service has always been attentive, but I've also always had the same waiter (props to Evan). The new bar is great, too...we played shuffleboard for free ( I think it only lasts through June, though). Can't wait to visit as the complex opens up the remainder of the space. Pros: Value, comp valet, cocktails, frito pie Cons: Art TVs, cold decor more

Worst pasta and service 6/21/2008

The drinks and appetizers were great. The pasta dish I had (pork pappardelle) was not very appetizing. The pasta was crunchy in spot and gooey in others. Our waiter was not very friendly and didn't pay attention to our table. Do Not go for your anniversary. If it is your first time you will be disappointed. Pros: drinks Cons: pasta and service more

poor customer service 6/15/2008

The restraint is a weird concoction of differing facades but it seems to work. We went for father?s day after 5pm and the place was only half filled. When we tried to order my favorite (shrimp for me the dad you see) we were told that they were out of shrimp and a few other things due to the Fathers day lunch rush. Now we live near the Kemah docks where shrimp fishing abounds but oh well. So we ordered the scallops as an appetizer, well don?t, for $19 we got, (get this) 2 scallops with some greens nicely placed but 2 scallops wow. The meal was excellent the service was a little slow but not excessively so but when we requested a tour of the facilities we were told the manager(s) were ?TO BUSY?. I GUESS WE WILL BE TO BUSY TO GO BACK Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: we feld like we were a bother more

Excellent food 6/15/2008

Our family went to Cullen's today for Father's Day. The place was packed! We had reservations and were seated as soon as we got there. \r \r The decor is earthy yet elegant. Very well done. The rotating art on the wall is a nice touch. The dining chairs are very comfortable. \r \r The way Cullen's is arranged and decorated facilitates hearing conversation at the table while speaking at a normal tone of voice. \r \r We were able to see the kitchen from where we were sitting. It is clean and organized.\r \r The menu has plenty to choose from (even Frito pie and chicken fried prime rib!). I had the pan chicken. Very tasty. The food was FA-BU-LOUS! The prices seemed fair.\r \r The service was good. They were extremely busy but attentive. We were surprised as to how quickly our food arrived at the table! Everyone seemed to enjoy working there and eager to help. \r \r Do we plan to go back? Absolutely!\r Would I recommend Cullen's to friends? Absolutely! (Already have!)\r Pros: excellent food, excellent and comfortable decor more

Very good lunch menu, excellent service for large group, spacious seating 6/8/2008

I was one of 15 ladies that had lunch at Cullen's recently. I had a Rueben sandwich with the vegetable slaw. It was very tasty. The others had other sandwiches, salads and the two-course lunch. Every one had positive comments concerning her food. The atmosphere with soft background music was conducive to converstion even in our large group. Although we do not normally frequent the same restaurant in consecutive months, our group chose to return this next month. Since I have eaten at Cullen's numerous times, I can vouch for the lobster bisque as well as their menu soups and soup of the day. The crab cake has been delicious as my entree. The ambiance and service is excellent making Cullen's the place to go for a very special occasion as well as the casual lunch and dinner. Pros: Ambiance more

Great cocktails, lovely decor! 6/4/2008

And I can't forget to mention the food...very tasty!\r \r The new bar they opened recently is very chic. The girls and I had pre-SATC premiere appetizers and cocktails and it was a joy! Can't wait for the wine patio to open. We shall return with an even larger crowd. more

Bar was phenomenal 6/3/2008

The bar was amazing inside Cullen's. It was the nicest bar I have ever been to. The billiard room was great, with a shuffle board table and 2 pool tables (I love pool). To make my night even better, there were like 15 T.V.s, with the sports games on them. The service was very quick, and very nice. I will visit many more times. more

The girls and I loved it 6/3/2008

Six girls on a ""girl's night out"", celebrating a birthday and everyone wanted to try the new Clear Lake restaurant everyone is talking about. This place is sooo needed down here. We loved it!!!! They didn't rush us and we spent 3 hours there. Food is terrific and the building makes you really feel like you are out for a night on the town. Please support this place we have nothing like it around here and we definitely need it!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great night out place / date night Cons: jazz bar not complete more

Best food 6/3/2008

Cullen's is my new favorite restaurant. I walked in and to put it simply was astounded by the place. I was seated promptly, at a seat with a great view of the kitchen. The people in the kitchen were very interesting to watch, and it seemed very clean. I ordered the lobster bisque for an appetizer, and I have never had better! It was one of he most unique things I ever ever seen done with a soup. I normally do not like my bisque very creamy, and at Cullen's, they brought it in a cup so I could put just as much as I wanted. For my main course, I had the prime rib. With every bite I took, flavor just exploded in my mouth. For desert I had the bourbon pecan pie, it was very tasty. The wait staff was very friendly, and the portion sizes were perfect for me. I highly recommend Cullen's to everyone! Pros: Food more

Great business lunch 6/3/2008

Great find if you are on the south side of town and looking for a location to lunch. Took customers and it was not the same old places. I will make the trip for dinner with the wife, it is a neat place and the meal and experience were enjoyable. more

NEED TO FIX SOME GLITCHES AND PORTIONS OF FOOD 5/29/2008

I was really excited when my daughter decided to take my husband and I to this new restaurant in Clear Lake for Mother's Day. Instead of going to brunch, she decided to take us for Saturday night dinner. \r \r There are some glitches that need to be worked out. Such as the air conditioning. It was humid outside and it was hot and humid in the restaurant. I actually hiked up my long skirt under the table. My husband advised our server and he said he would talk to the manager. It remained hot and humid. Also, as other people have complained, it took me ten minutes to get the salt and pepper shakers. Whatever happened to leaving them on the table?\r \r We got the scallops as an appetizer. They were delicious but there were only two large scallops. So between the six of us (hubby, daughter, husband, two kids, and myself) we each had about a bite. Pretty pricey at $18.\r \r I liked my entree which was braised short ribs but I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary. My daughter got the ahi tuna with absolutely no sauce at all and it was really bland. My husband I think got the prize for the best entree. It was proscuitto wrapped chicken with goat cheese inside. It was delicious.\r \r All in all, I would probably try this restaurant again, but the owners should take note of complaints that I've seen over and over on various websites, and as noted above.\r \r Also, I have to say the restaurant, though very upscale, is also very kid-friendly. There were many different selections and the kids seemed to really enjoy being at a ""fancy"" restaurant. more

Love, love, love Cullens!!! 5/22/2008

Since they're brand new, my expectations weren't that high because I assumed that they were still probably trying to work out the kinks. All I can say is... WOW! The food at Cullen's...excellent! The service... perfect! We could not have enjoyed our meal any more than we did. The prime rib is outstanding and the wine list is quite impressive. Words can't really even describe how gorgeous the restaurant is. It looks like something out of Vegas has landed right in the middle of the Southeast side of Houston. Fine dining it definitely is, but without the stuffy atmosphere. Most definitely the place to take anyone you're trying to impress but also seems to be family-friendly so could even be a nice place to take the family as well. Pros: Great food, wine list Cons: None! more

Food is not very good. 5/21/2008

I was not real impressed with this place. Somebody said they had good lobster bisque and it was not very good. It was the worst thing I have ever had. It tasted like brown gravy. I don't see how anybody could make that and think it was good. When we got there they put us at a table that had a nice view of a trash can in the kitchen. We asked to be moved and they moved us to a table then had to move us again because they forgot that table was saved for somebody else. None of the food was real impressive. It is a big place and looks nice but the food is lack luster. Cons: Really bad lobster bisque more

party of 25 5/17/2008

Definately had a great experience at Cullens. There were about 25 of us for a birthday party a couple of days ago and we had an awesome time. We were probably a liitle much for the wait staff but you would have never known. The servive was absolutly great as well as the food. It was a little pricey, but worth it. I would love to go back for a more intimate setting and a full meal. I look forward to my next visit!!! Compliments to the chef!! Pros: Wine selection and large selection of appetizers and desserts more
