What an amazing night for Lori’s Bday! Hats off to Kevin, Chef Paul, Megan and all the staff that took such great care of us. All in attendance were blown away by the entire event...

Worst

Cullen's was our New Year's Eve destination, having searched for restaurants that would be open for the evening. We were happy that Cullen's was also located on our side of town...

Made a fan outta me 5/17/2008

My girlfriend kept telling me that she has a new favorite restaurant. She is really into good food and it has never been as important to me. Still, I appreciate a good dining experience and this far exceeded my expectations. Usually things that have been built up as something great don't live up to your expectations. Not the case here. We shared tuna tartar and I had the shortribs for my meal. Honestly, it was one of the better ribs I have ever eaten. Our server was genuinely nice and very helpful. The decor is classy and so is the music. What a cool place. I am now a fan as well. more

Wonderful! 5/17/2008

Cullen's serves basic food prepared in a not-so-basic manner. The ambience and service are wonderful. Red Velvet cake is unbelievable! Pros: Cake more

5 Stars 3 Thumbs Up 5/17/2008

As first-time visitors to Houston, I chose Cullen's because I wanted an excellent American restaurant with flair. I also wanted to be away from downtown, where we were staying. When we pulled up to the parking lot, we were greeted by comp valet service. At our appointed reservation time they had a booth near the chef's kitchen. And what a view: my husband and I got to see the full show that was the culinary artists at work. The appetizers and entrees were excellent and the chocolate dessert was superlative and my favorite part of the meal. All in all, a great and never-to-be-forgotten evening. Pros: Very large seating area, but also very private hidden booths Cons: We leave Houston in 4 days! more

What a Great Escape! 5/13/2008

To be honest with you, I'm a city slicker but this place is such a nice retreat from Midtown, Uptown, Galleria and downtown. We held a small get-together there for the family and were so surprised (and relieved) that everything went so well. \r \r Great food and great drinks for a steal. Ambience is nice, new faces that you know are there for the right reasons and a staff that is superb. It's just a nice and neat place to look at. Afterwards, we stayed for after dinner cocktails and were treated to some interesting samples from their bar. \r \r We will definitely be back very soon. Pros: Great food, great drinks, great people! Cons: Nothing! more

Stayed in the bar for the most part 5/12/2008

I went with 3 friends and we sat in the smaller bar area and had wine and drinks... it was really great for that sort of thing. Wedidnt stay for dinner but we had frito pie and crabcakes for appetizers from the bar menu. Plan on having dinner sometime soon. more

Great Restaurant 5/12/2008

We went to Cullen's with high expectations. The Clear Lake are is so under served. When we arrived at Cullen's the complimentary valet service was very professional, we were then greeted, and taken to our seat. When we walked into the main dining room we were blown away by the sheer beauty of the place. (the art on the TV screens is a great touch) \r The wait staff was very attentive and helpful throughout the meal. I ordered the lobster bisque, and the fish and chips. BOTH WERE FABULOUS! I've have traveled all over the nation and never tasted lobster bisque as good as the one i had at Cullen's. My wife had the crab cake and the snapper. The was to die for! The snapper was very well seasoned and cooked. All around great meal.\r But little did i know the best was yet to come, we ordered the brownie for desert and was amazed by the presentation of the desert. The taste was not lacking either.\r My experience at Cullen's was flawless at worst, certainly be back again. more

It was ok for the most part 5/11/2008

Came here for Mother's Day dinner. Waited in seating/bar area for our table. Once our table was ready, i stood up and spilled my 1/2 full cocktail and my mother's too! As I sat down at my table, i was presented a bill from my cocktail waitress......but no replacement drinks. I was fuming. True, i made a mistake, but I shouldn't have to ask for a replacement drink. It should be safe to assume that I would receive one. It's one cocktail, not a million dollars.\r Besides that scallop appetizer was good. Steaks were a bit bland though. Perhaps they should season them up slightly more with kosher salt and peppercorns?\r All in all it was good exp.....just wish I didnt have to pay for drinks I never finished or at least couldbve had replaced! Details people! more

Mother's Day Brunch was fabulous! 5/11/2008

After church this morning,we treated my mom to a mother's day brunch at Cullen's and little did I know I would be leaving with a treat too! We both chose the French Toast which had a type of orange and apricot topping and breakfast sausage. My dad had the goat cheese stuffed chicken and my husband had the huevos rancheros and salsa. The menu selection was pretty big considering it was a set menu for brunch. The little one had a mini mac and cheese. For dessert I made my dad try the lemon custard and berries which was excellent to say the least. Toward the end of the meal a sweet young lady actually came to our table, asked how everything was and presented both my mother and I with a cupcake tied with ribbon in a small box. It was the sweetest thing - very chocolatey! It was very busy there around 1pm or so but our waitress and the staff were so gracious. It has been a tough year for my mother as well as my family so it was wonderful to see her so happy and excited to eat at such a nice place. I commend the staff and managers for such good service. Thank you and we will be visiting again! Pros: Kid friendly (hi chairs), Very friendly host, Valet, Great place to eat after Sunday service more

Cullen's is finally open 5/10/2008

Having seen the transitions in this space over the past year or so, it is safe to say that Cullen's is finally open for business. The food was outstanding and clever in its subtle pairings. We loved the crab cakes, short ribs, and salmon! And the 2 desserts we tried were interesting and well presented. After all this time, the residents of the Bay Area will have more than one option when dining out. We wish Cullen's the best and hope to visit again soon. Thank you so much for a wonderful dining experience. -Michael and Ellen Chase Pros: fair prices, Clean kitchen, staff dress code is very professional, table linen adds touch of elegance more

No need to drive uptown... 5/10/2008

Service is exemplary and the food is well thought-out American cuisine...but ambiance is what this place is about. A great restaurant for small or large groups. Parking is available. Great wine list and espresso drinks. You have to try the creme brulee. Cannot wait for the larger bar and lounge to open. more

New Inviting Fresh! 5/10/2008

A few friends and I decided to try out this new spot - and it was a great time! Definitely will go back again and again... new neighborhhood hangout! The food was great- the people were beautiful and friendly-the place reminded me of grand hotel restaurant. We started out at the bar-waiting for a couple of people to show up. The bartender was so welcoming, he chatted with us the whole time and actually taught me quite a few things- very insightful young man!! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, prompt service, great cocktails more

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 5/10/2008

My date and I and another couple went to the restaurant last night I got the chance to sample a couple of items between us and I have to say - mmmmm!!! That was one of the best meals I have had at any restaurant in this town (I do eat out a minimum of 4 times a week due to business) and I will be back next weekend. I suggest trying the seafood cocktail with avocado, (I can't yet recommend all of the entrees as I will have to work/eat my way through the menu) rigatoni pasta....CAUTION>>>>you may find yourself going into a Simpsonesque state of happiness while eating...Homer never had it so good. All in all I'm sold - a good time, great food and an awesome place! Thank you Cullens!!!! Pros: Drink prices, wines, great for after work type crowd more

Good Food, No Pretense 5/10/2008

I was pretty satisfied with my experience at Cullens. The food was good, the portions were adequate and satisfying, and the service was very prompt. The menu has something for every taste, whether it's for drinks and appetizers or a full course meal. The bread was pretty good, but the strip and mussels were both prepared exactly as ordered. The desserts and coffee were rich and nicely presented. Not too loud. The decor is nice. more

Great for us girls! 5/10/2008

My friends and I (4 women) try a new restaurant almost every month. Dined here last week. Wonderful meal and lots of fun. Almost considered missing our show! Tuna tatare is heavenly as an appetizer (enough for 2). Snapper is cooked to perfection. Cake was moist and delish. Then there are the waiters!!! Four women on girls nite out with the cutest, friendliest waiters and bartenders (especially Nate, if he's still there). What more could a girl ask for? Loved it. Pros: Great waitstaff, nice table arrangement, SUPERB drinks!!! Cons: Needs to hurry and open for lunch more

A wonderful anniversary meal! 5/10/2008

My husband mentioned we would be celebrating our anniversary when he made our reservation. From our waiter Alex, who wished us a happy anniversary as soon as we sat down, to extensive collection of wines, to the delicious seafood, this was a first-rate experience. I had the ribeye, my husband ordered the duck breast, and both were excellent. For dessert try the chocolate cake -- seriously chocolatey! The service was wonderful, too. Cullen's was a great place to celebrate our anniversary, and we won't wait another year before our next visit. Pros: Service is great, good seating area, valet, nice ladies lavatory, lovely floral arrangements throughout more

A true gem 5/10/2008

We had read a review on before you eat and thought we'd give it a shot - and what a time we had. The food was tasty, seasonal and creative; the service was attentive and friendly; the wine was interesting. If you are in the area GO! The prices don't reflect the quality you receive!! more

We needed this! 5/9/2008

I loved the restaurant! I'm so glad something like this has finally reached us in our area instead of having to drive the distance to houston. The service was great and staff was very friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fact that they are a certified green restaurant. I recommend the ""Short Rib Ravioli"" I couldn't get enough! This will not be the last time I will be dining here, looking forward to bringing my friends and family here! I hope everyone who comes to cullen's has a great experience like I did! Keep up the the good work and I cant wait for Cullen's Live to open! more

Lobster Bisque - the BEST! 4/29/2008

Very, very nice to have a great restaurant in the Clear Lake area. I have to say the Lobster bisque is the best I've had anywhere and that includes places like The Four Season, Tony's, and some great places in Paris, Fr. Would suggest you might stock the Chardonnay wine - Kistler (a great wine); the filet was terrific and when I leave room for the desserts, they are right up there with ""The Stove"" served at LeCirque. Can't wait until all the rooms are completed and only wish you were open for ""lunch."" Great place and great atmosphere. Most folks don't like to wait even though they have reservations so that is a plus, as well.\r Keep up the good work and great service. Best of luck to the future of the resturant - hope it is a smashing success; it seems to be already.\r Cons: Wine selection - add a few more Chardonnay's like Kistler or champagne's like Roderers more

Finally... Fine Dining in the Clear Lake area!!! 4/24/2008

WOW!!! What a beautiful restaurant. It's just breathtaking from the minute you drive up. The owners have taken into account every single possible detail and the food is just fabulous. The filet was one of the best I've had (which is no small feat considering we have some of the best steakhouses here). Cullens is great choice for a romantic night out or a nice dinner with the family. It's a fine dining establishment without the stuffy atmosphere. I noticed everything from couples, to families to business men eating while we were there so it seems to be a good choice for any occasion. Definitely one to put on your list of places to try!!! Pros: Gorgeous restaurant, excellent food, nice ambiance more
