Cullen's was our New Year's Eve destination, having searched for restaurants that would be open for the evening. We were happy that Cullen's was also located on our side of town, out in the Clear Lake area. However, the location seems somewhat oddly placed down an isolated stretch of Space Center Blvd, for such a huge restaurant. The restaurant building is gorgeous, as is the driveway up to the restaurant which includes a huge, round water fountain.\r
Each of us ordered different items from the prix fixed menu, which offered two or three selections in four categories; appetizer; salad; main course; dessert. My fiancee had the steak Diane, while my daughter and I each tried the duck a-la orange. My son opted for the red snapper for his main course. Each course of the meal was very good, but incredibly miniscule in portion size. The appetizers were so small, we all just blankly stared at each other in disbelief. For the $65 per person pre-fixed price, the food did not measure up to the price at all. While nicely prepared, all portions were jokingly small. My fiancee's steak was barely luke-warm, and the service was just, okay. The tip amount was already pre-filled into the final bill, which is very presumptuous in my opinion. It should be left up to the customer to decide how much to tip, based on the meal and service. Plus, they should have had a live band for New Year's Eve, but they did not.\r
All-in-all, it was nice to try a new place. The building is beautiful and the location is unusual. But for the price and quality of the food, I doubt serviously that we will return.
