Best

What an amazing night for Lori’s Bday! Hats off to Kevin, Chef Paul, Megan and all the staff that took such great care of us. All in attendance were blown away by the entire event...

Worst

Cullen's was our New Year's Eve destination, having searched for restaurants that would be open for the evening. We were happy that Cullen's was also located on our side of town...

WORST SERVICE EXPERIENCE (including the manager) 1/29/2012

If I could give a negative star, I would. I am not a complainer or fill out bad comment cards (I do for great experiences). Unfortunately, the experience at Cullens was horrible from start to finish. First of all we had reservations but the party was smaller that arrived so we needed a smaller table. It is understandable we had to wait since the table that was ready was for a larger party. We had to wait but needed to come back to the hostess stand to check if our table was ready versus having a pager or someone come get us. Second, we were taken to the table and waiting 10 minutes before being addressed by our waitress - Mickey. The bread was set on our table and the girl (new hire) walked away. Then again, the new hire asked in a soft voice, has anyone taken your order (after another 10 minutes from the time Mickey gave us our menu). We asked her about the soup of the day and she didn't know that answer. Mickey came in and said it's Black Bean Soup. One of the guest asked what type of bean soup and she said ""a bunch of different beans"". She said the other soups are fine. The other guest asked how is your Chicken Fried Ribeye. She said its a Chicken Fried Steak. Then we had to ask for napkins and the table was not set (even with us waiting over 30 minutes - expectation from the Hostess was 15 minutes). The soups were brought with no soup spoons so we had to find someone to bring us that utensil. The appetizer was never brought and the Waitress checked on other tables around us and didn't address us or fill out water. That was the last straw when we asked where the appetizer was and she blamed us for not ordering it since it was not on her sheet. We went to get a manager to discuss our experience and instead of taking ownership and turning our bad experience into a tolerable/better experience, he proceeded to make excuses. ""This is our busiest night"" Continuously, he repeated that instead of apologizing. He seemed to want to run away from the situation and get us refills. The waitress turned to the manager and said ""You can handle this"" and left. The experience of the wait was not the issue, the issue was the Service Experience. For being an award winning restaurant as stated on your website, you will not win in 2012. We called our Best Restaurant - Killens Steakhouse. Not only was our table set when we arrived but the hostess and our Waiter greeted us and gave us the Normal BEST experience we always get at their Steakhouse. That restaurant is always booked but there has NEVER been a BAD experience. The experience starts with impression and the wait staff and manager in the Main dining room need a lesson from Killens. Even the table next to us had to complain earlier so we are not the only ones who had a bad experience on 1.28.2012 (8pm-9:15pm - NO FOOD was eaten except Soup - Gumbo soup tasted like Campbells)_. more

Best bar/ lounge in the area 9/13/2011

I have been to Cullen's many times but my last visit was exceptional. I love the service and I always get taken care of. There really is nothing like it in the area. My friends and I always go to Sunday brunch there and now that its not super hot the patio is the best place to sit. I mean where else can you get UNLIMITED mimosas for $10??\r Its the best place for a nice dinner and then after go listen to the music, they sometimes have Mambo Jazz Kings who are my favorite! more

Really Nice 2/10/2011

everything we ordered was simply delicious. from the bread to dessert, everything was really exceptional. service matched the food. alcohol is overpriced though. will be back. more

Worst overprice meal ever, Rude manager too! 1/10/2011

My husband takes me out for my anniversary last weekend. Driving up to the place I'm amazed I've never been here so naturally I'm anxious. A pretty blond makes eye contact with us when we walk in, no welcome, no how are you doing, nothing. She wasn't taking a call and we were only the 2nd couple in there. Not a huge deal so we approach her to tell her we want to sit in the round dining room. To our amazement, the large dining room sat rather empty. We order a few OVERPRICED drinks and appetizers, still not impressed. Server was quite friendly but definitely not informative. He could only tell us things we already knew, nothing specific about entrée choices, wines, etc. My steak was NOT cooked the way I wanted it (MEDIUM WELL, not bloody!!!) I told a manager and he acted a bit surprised, like he couldn't believe there could be anything wrong. I didn't want to make a scene and embarrass my husband. There's a reason places like this don't do well. They lack the fundamental elements of a good restaurant. Customer service, good food and a good value. I can't imagine who would come to this place. It's over-rated in every way and not worth anything. more

Interesting Place, but less than satisfying 1/1/2011

Cullen's was our New Year's Eve destination, having searched for restaurants that would be open for the evening. We were happy that Cullen's was also located on our side of town, out in the Clear Lake area. However, the location seems somewhat oddly placed down an isolated stretch of Space Center Blvd, for such a huge restaurant. The restaurant building is gorgeous, as is the driveway up to the restaurant which includes a huge, round water fountain.\r Each of us ordered different items from the prix fixed menu, which offered two or three selections in four categories; appetizer; salad; main course; dessert. My fiancee had the steak Diane, while my daughter and I each tried the duck a-la orange. My son opted for the red snapper for his main course. Each course of the meal was very good, but incredibly miniscule in portion size. The appetizers were so small, we all just blankly stared at each other in disbelief. For the $65 per person pre-fixed price, the food did not measure up to the price at all. While nicely prepared, all portions were jokingly small. My fiancee's steak was barely luke-warm, and the service was just, okay. The tip amount was already pre-filled into the final bill, which is very presumptuous in my opinion. It should be left up to the customer to decide how much to tip, based on the meal and service. Plus, they should have had a live band for New Year's Eve, but they did not.\r All-in-all, it was nice to try a new place. The building is beautiful and the location is unusual. But for the price and quality of the food, I doubt serviously that we will return. more

I'm Stuffed 10/2/2010

Thank you to Krista for the wonderful service. Even with the accidental spill of the hot chocolate on my friend, you were superb. Also thank you to the Manager who came over to greet us and made sure we were taken care of. Last, but not least, thank you to Nicole for giving us the VIP treatment and taking us on the tour of the establishment and spending a few minutes at the Macy's table. The food was outstanding. When they say ""lump crab"", they mean lump crab! I had the New York Strip, cooked to perfection. I will be coming back very very soon. Thank you all for making my experience there one I shant forget. ~Candi more

Love the Grille and Upstairs lounge 8/27/2010

My husband and I love to frequent Cullens on Thursday nights. Their prices are rather steep, but on Thursday it is half price drinks from 11 - 11 and there is a live band. We get a bottle of wine ( $18), some Potato Samosas ($4.95) or Ruben Spring Rolls (5.95) for an appetizer and enjoy the ambiance in the Grille area. The pool table room is really nice, and the upstairs lounge is amazing. In the winter they light the firepit and it is a wonderful place to sit and talk. We also love their Sunday Brunch, especially during football season, and they have bottomless Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's for a buck! Lobbying for a place in the City Search Hall of Fame is just smart business. If you don't want to recommend them then just don't! I personally love the ambiance and can't believe such a nice place is so close to home. Keep up the good work! more

Best of City Search...What? How? 8/14/2010

I recently dined at this restaurant because it made the Best of Citysearch list. They must have paid to be on that list because the food was horrible. I must say the restaurant is nice, the drink specials are good, love the texts for discounts; however, they need to hire a completely new kitchen staff to get the food in sync with the ambience. Even my frozen drink was bad..it had absolutely no flavor...I can make better frozen drinks from the containers you buy at the grocery store. This was a great disappoint. I am still amazed that it made Best of Citysearch...that definitely had to take some lobbying. more

Never. 8/8/2010

Regardless of any rave reviews, I would never go to this place based on the sham they are blatantly pulling for Best of Citysearch. They are being voted up in every category, many that they obviously don't belong to. From their website, I don't expect much dignity, but this is ridiculous and they need to stop these corrupt business practices. more

How? Wha..? NOOOOO!!!! 8/8/2010

All I want to know is how much $ was spent and how many people lost their dignity in getting this restaurant listed on every single Best of Citysearch category? more

Great Easter and Mother's Day Buffets 5/12/2010

My family has enjoyed the grille and main restaurant at Cullen's since they opened for business. We decided to try their Easter buffet. The Easter buffet was wonderful!!! My favorite was the seafood and grilled vegatables. The mashed potatoes are to die for!!! They had a great variety of desserts which were fabulous!!!! We enjoyed Easter so much went back for Mother's Day. The Mother's Day buffet was just as great. Pros: great food, great atmosphere more

Love This Place 1/5/2010

My boyfriend and I made reservations in the main dining room area for dinner. I had eaten in the casual area before, but the dining room at night just blew me away. We ordered the tuna tartare for a starter, which was delicious. Both of us had the Prime Rib, which I had read on a review was not all that, but ours definately was and then some! We also ordered a nice bottle of wine, we didn't use the ""wine tablet"" because we knew what we wanted and due to the vast selection they had the wine we requested. Our desert, the cheesecake, was the finishing touch to a fantastic evening. I enjoy the grille for casual dining, but I will definately make it a point to do more upscale dinning in the dining room! Pros: Delicious food and elegant atmosphere more

Very romantic. Excellent menu. Fantastic Service. 12/1/2009

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with Cullens. I read the reviews and had some concerns about the not so positive food and service comments that other patrons had written. But it was highly recommended by associates of mine. When we first arrived we were amazed at the fountains and the flame in the middle of the water. Beautiful. There was free valet parking which we did not use but that was a great benefit. When we walked inside we could not believe that this place existed on Space Center Drive. There is no other place like it in this area - that I know of. Jeff was our food server and he was the most polite and observant person we have ever had the pleasure of being served by. We started with the appetizer of rock shrimp. It was superb. We then shared the lobster bisque. It was the best we ever ate. The lobster was so fresh and sweet and so much of it! Then we ate the brie and green salad. A very nice addition to the meal. The entre we had was the bone in Rib eye. We shared this as well. It was more than either of us could eat. It was cooked to perfection, served with onions, mushrooms, and sweet potato. We loved it. Bottom line, we will go back again, as it was just a wonderful evening. Thank you, Cullens! Pros: The ambience will blow you away. Cons: None. more

great drinks! 10/29/2009

I recently visited the bar and grille at Cullen's and had a pretty good experience. I have been in the formal dining room before but this time we dined at the newer part of the restaurant which was a bit more casual. The drinks and burgers were very good. I had the grapefruit martini and club. Afterward we saw Mr. Hands Revenge in the club area. Great music, great food EXCELLENT drinks! Pros: drinks, martinis in particular, free valet more

over rated food, nice atmosphere 10/27/2009

My best friend and I decided to have a lil girls night with drinks and dinner. The bar area is cool and fun...you can dress up which is nice since the Clear Lake area is so laid back. Its nice to look hot and not stand out to much...so do it here. The food....poor! Maybe it was an isolated incident but nothing was good except for our lemon dressing on the wedge dinner salad which we didn't pay over $200 for. The filet was overcooked and lacked flavor..if you need steak sauce on a filet...the chef failed. Lobster Bisque....tasted like cream of mushroom soup with imitation crab meat. The server warned us it was ""different"" and he took it off the bill since we didn't eat it. That was nice. The mashed potatoes (forgot the fancy name) were bland...yuck. We ordered creme brulee....and it was not fired properly on top....just reg granduales of sugar. If you don't know dining...this will suffice. Wish I could say it was better but we both agreed not to go back...P*rrys is better. I must compliment the waitstaff...they were very friendly and attentive. prefessional waiters....not kids. Pros: you can dress up, nice ambiance and stiff drinks Cons: tried a little of everything...no bueno. more

Pros: Everything!! Cons: that we are located 2 1/2 hours from Cullens!!! more

Amazing Brunch and Steak! 10/21/2009

I have been to Cullens about 5 times, each experience has been different. The first time was with family with a table of 10-15 and the others have been smaller groups of 4 or just my husband and I. They handle the large group well and the small group well. I have had Perrys, Killians, Flemings, and a number of other steaks, and hands down Cullens Filet Mignon exceeds them all. I also would recommend their BRUNCH, with $3 mimosas and $3 bloodymarys, and many brunch items btwn $10-15, its a steal! I loved the Belgium Waffles and Three Egg omelete with goat cheese! Pros: Gorgeous and Food is Great Cons: Ask for a table not near the kitchen more

Just say NO 10/8/2009

I just call it Pasadena pretentious. Everything has about one more ingredient than it should. Cons: Everything more
