Review content:
After careful consideration of several tapas spots, I decided on The Courtyard for dinner last Tuesday. I called ahead for reservations, which were not necessary on this particular evening. I also asked if the Tuesday night Tapas special was still going on. The gentleman responded yes, and confirmed my reservation. First off, the restaurant has parking, which is amazing considering it's location in WeHo. The outdoor courtyard is beautiful, very festive. You don't feel like you're in LA. Our server was great, very friendly, actually way above average as servers go. My date had a peach sangria, and I ordered the traditional. I read quite a few reviews which stated the sangria tasted watery - and my date's first comment confirmed this. I do not doubt that the sangria is made from fresh ingredients, but I think it's taste is a victim of being made too early in advance, allowed to sit in melting ice long before being ordered. The tapas were very good. The bacon wrapped dates were excellent. The mussels came in a delicious, creamy broth, soooo good. The cheese plate was average, but well presented. For the entreee we shared the seafood paella. The rice was cooked perfectly, infused with savory broth. The seafood was not over-cooked, and seemed to be of good quality. When the bill came, I noticed that the half price tapas special advertised on the website was not applied. Granted, the discount would not have been substantial, but if you advertise a special, it should be honored. I asked the server about it, explaining that I called in advance and was told that the special was still going strong. He said that they didn't "do that anymore, because of the music and dancers on Tuesday nights." Not a big deal, but worth mentioning, in case you're on the fence b/w "The Courtyard" and "Cobras" and the 1/2 price apps are your deal maker. I will definitely return to The Courtyard for its festive atmosphere, great food, and friendly waitstaff. Pros: Festive environment, friendly waitstaff, parking Cons: Misleading website specials
