BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE - Today\r Now I understand all your frustrations. I have been calling for 2 weeks to get an estimate. I waited all day on a Saturday and they never came and never followed up. I called and spoke to someone (never leave a message or send info online, they do not answer) who said they would come again and 2 more no shows. \r \r Cheap Charlies is obviously cheap, hence the name, but you get what you pay for. Zero customer service and lots of frustration and wasted time. I will not use them again because I don't have time to sit around and wait for them. \r \r 2 years ago\r Great Job and Cheap! I read all the negative reviews and had to write a good one because people run to complain, but not to praise. \r \r PROS\r 1. Cheap Charlie's was much cheaper than anyone else. \r 2. He gave a quote quickly and came within the same week.\r 3. The crew was great and cleaned up my entire yard. (Note: Offer some water or a drink or something, these guys work their tails off and they really appreciated it). \r 4. Professional - they knew exactly what they were doing and did it quickly. 4 trees in under 2 hours. \r \r CONS\r 1. Hard to get on the phone, it is annoying that I always got the machine, but they did get back to me. (I would have loved to reach them via email to confirm everything).\r \r Overall - This was the best and cheapest service around. Charlie even came to the job to make sure it was done right and gave suggestions on how to maintain my yard! I was very pleased. \r \r PS- If you had a good experience with something...don't forget to write about it. Don't just post when you complain! more

This Cheap Charlie is not worth your time. I took off from work, and waited all day, and was told they would come for an estimate before 1pm. I called at that time when ""Charlie"" was nowhere to be found, and they asked me again what the estimate was for, and when they realized it was for a smaller job, they suggested I call someone else! Total waste of time, and would never call them for anything again. more

Stay away! Worst customer service ever. I had an appointment scheduled for a Saturday and asked for a general timeframe as to when the guys were going to show up and take a look at my yard. They refused to tell me and said that even if I wasn't there, they'd take a look at my yard and give me the estimate anyway. I was impressed that the crew could read my mind and would know exactly which branches I needed trimmed and which I didn't want them to touch. Nevertheless, I waited at home all day and they never showed. When I called the following week, the girl answering the phones made it seem as though it was my fault that they were down one estimator. Simply awful customer service. I hired another company and as fate would have it, Charlie's crew came to my house three days after my phone call as the other company was in the process of cleaning my yard. more

this is the worst company in business. The ladies who handle customer service are extremely nasty and lie. They ""supposedly"" give Charlie messages but he doesn't call back either. The ladies tell you they are too busy to deal with more customers. Hurricane Sandy = even the sun shines on a dogs backside somedays. Once the work from that is over they will be crying for work since they ruined their customer base and have been reported to the BBB. Worst tree service in business!!! more

I would not recommend this company. I was told they would be here between 12:00 and 2:00 for an estimate. Never showed up, never called. Tried to call the office several times - they do not pick up the phone or call back.\r Love wasting an entire Saturday afternoon for nothing! more

Here's a tip, don't quote a price, promise the job and tell me the day of the job that it can't be done. And DON""T ever tell me not to yell...while you are yelling at me.I do not recommend this company. more

My husband and I scheduled an appointment to get a tree removed from the front of our house. We received a call the night before and were told that the crew would arrive around 7:30 am to complete the job. We made accommodations for my father to be at our house at this time. At 9:30 am the crew still didn't show up. My mother called the office and the person that picked up the phone said that she would have to check to see if the crew was stuck in traffic or if they weren't working because of the rain (although I left my house at 6:30 and it was not raining). About a half hour later (2 1/2 hours after the scheduled appointment) we were notified that they were canceling because of the rain. It was later explained that although it wasn't raining, it was raining at 6:00 am when the crew decided that they would not be able to complete the job. I completely understand that a crew would have to cancel because of the weather however I do feel that it should be a priority of the company to let their customers know as soon as the crew makes a decision...or at least within a timely manner. But this was not the worst part! I called the office to discuss this issue and to reschedule the appointment. When I first called I got an answering machine. Within ten minutes my call was returned by one of the owners Michelle. Right off the bat Michelle seemed annoyed by my call. She later explained to me that this was the third person she was talking to (my mother, my husband, and myself) and she was ""honestly done with the situation"". Unfortunately my husband and I both work and had to make a couple of calls to the office to get the situation settled. We didn't realize that a business owner could be so easily annoyed and openly express it to her customers. Michelle also explained that when she called my husband to cancel the appointment my husband, in her words ""seemed to have an attitude"". I understand getting frustrated in situations, but being the owner of a company you should be able to deal with unhappy customers without expressing your irritation with them; especially when you are canceling your appointment 2 1/2 hours after it was scheduled. In my place of business this type of behavior would not be stood for. Along with Michelle saying that she was ""honestly done with the conversation"" and that my husband had an attitude, she said that this is a ""real company"" (as opposed to all the fake companies out there) and that in 20 years or so they have never had someone complain. Maybe she should take a look at some of the reviews on this site or other sites like it. When I said that I would expect the owner to be apologetic to an unhappy customer, she explained to me that she already apologized to my husband; which I guess was her was of justifying her rude demeanor with me. In the end she let me know that I should use another company and HUNG up on me. I thought the whole situation was unbelievable, and in the long run wish I would have used a company with much better reviews! more

I had a tree that was about to fall on my house. I called and explained the problem and luckily for me they were working in my area. They came that very day with what looked like a small army. They removed the tree without any damage to my home or yard. I can't thank them enough! The owner Charlie was very reassuring that everything would be fine, as I was a bit nervous. I recommend them highly! more

Judging from the reviews, your experience may vary, but we had a tough job on a big maple, with many overhangs into the neighbors yards - over sheds, PVC fences, and 2 playsets. His estimate was 1/3 of anybody else, he came exactly when specified, cleaned up ALL branches, twigs,etc, and didn't damage anything.... and like the contract said - he refills the stump hole (if ground) with the stump grindings - big whoop. 20 minutes with a shovel and it's nice and level and you have a bunch of mulch for the rest of your garden. I wouldn't think twice to recommend Cheap Charlie to all my friends and neighbors. Awesome! more

Cheap charlie came and gave me a cheap estimte, which I told them they will be hired. When they came to do the job, they refused to do the job and said it will be twice as much. The took of my fence down and left. The salesman Jim, came back and said it will be 1200 instead of 600 as originally promissed. When I tried to speak to him he hung up the phone on me. I would not use them unless you have a very simple job, and even then I would think twice more

I just had a monster of a tree removed by cheap charlies and you would never know it!! The guys were very fast and respectful..the best part is they were cheaper than any other place I called!! I have a new Tree Service!! more

My neighbors used your tree service, and not only were they completely satisfied with your work, my family and I who are their neighbors observed the work being done and everything was done very professionally and neatly. They were removing an exceptionally tall pine tree that had been there for well over 50 years and the removal, was done, safely and the yard was left neat and clean. more

I am from Cheap Charlie's and would like to respond to the few bad reviews. Everything is in our contracts, we do not take stump grindings, we cannot be held liable for sprinkler lines that run underground, if your worried about them it's simple don't grind your stump, that's the only thing that goes underground where we can't see the sprinkler lines. Please remember you are removing trees in very tight areas. We are looking out for things like your house, your garage, your car, your deck, your patio , your driveway! This is a very dangerous and hazardous line of work, people should remember that when they complain about things they were told about! If you have questions just ask, we don't hide anything! We want issues about as much as you want issues! If you would like to talk to previous customers, just ask and we can provide you with hundreds! more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!! I really should have heeded the reviews, but thought maybe it was just a fluke. WRONG! I got burned like everyone else. I was left with a 4 foot high debris pile and dead branches all over my yard. Found out yesterday they cut through my sprinkler line after half the grass in the front yard died. I called the company explaining that you could see the sprinkler line coming through the debris pile- clearly they would have seen it and there was a sprinkler head right in front of the pile. However, they 'cannot be held responsible' and will not even help me split the cost for repairs. Terrible customer service. Read the reviews elsewhere- all the positive ones are actually from company employees! Very unprofessional and transparent. more

My neighbor had a tree removed and now I know why they go by the name Cheap Charlie. The branches and leaves were dumped in my backyard. When my wife asked the workers to remove the debris they dumped in my yard, she was cussed at and told they didn't do it. Then they had the gall to try and charge us. Well my neighbor is in for a rude awakening, either he is going to remove the mess or will be paying for the removal. I have read the other reviews it seems to be the normal way of doing business for Cheap Charlie. Head my advice do not use this service!!!! A rating is required, However one star is the lowest they should not get any stars. more

Had a tree removed in front of my house in long island NY.I was never told that the mulch would be left at my house,around 200 pounds of it.When i finally paid a company to remove it ""thats why they say they will beat any price because they dont finish job""i realized they never grinded my stump down like i paid for.They ended up coming back to do the job the second time.They damaged my underground sprinklers cause they were careless.I spoke to the owner Charlie himself who was rude,crude and condecending and made me wait home so he can see the damage but never showed.He would not do anything about it and was completely unproffessional.I will notify the proper authorities for not taking responsibilities for damage they caused.They are unproffesional and rude and sadly thats the owner . more

Cheap Charlie's Tree Service says ""Call us last"" and We'll beat any price."" Which is what I did. Cheap Charlie's estimate was $1,000.00 more than any one else with $4,000.00. I went to show the estimator, Jimmy my $2,000.00 estimate when he left. He told me he wouldn't touch it. How does Cheap Charlie's Tree Service get away with false advertising? Suffolk County Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau need to hear about Cheap Charlie's business practices. more
