Not worth the view 12/1/2011

So disappointed with our experience. We went on Thanksgiving holiday and opted for the a la carte seating. Initial wait was 25 minutes behind schedule - but that can easily happen on a holiday. The service was well below standard - Patricia, the server, seemed overwhelmed and was not attentive. The bread basket contained 2 rolls - both stale - and 2 stale crackers which was surprising. The salad had obviously been prepared a day or so in advance (which is not unusual in a restaurant) but the dressing had turned bitter. Also, the plate was covered in condensation which indicated it had been taken out of the fridge and placed in the open air for too long. The calamari appetizer was certainly frozen and likely delivered from a vendor like Sysco. For the price it should have been prepared fresh. The entree is where we really had issues starting with the fact Patricia had forgotten to place the order. She came to the table and apologized and said she'd get the food out ""on the fly"". She also said that the manager was probably too busy to come over but he had said we could each have a complimentary dessert - anything we wanted - due to the error. When the food did finally come the filet mignon was low grade meat and the quality horrible. The preparation of the meat was substandard and improperly cooked. This isn't surprising considering that the food came out ""on the fly"" but I felt that had it been cooked properly the quality still would have not been what a $38 entree should have been. The vegetables and potatoes were standard fare - nothing to rave about. When I shared that I was unhappy with my meal the general manager did come over and while he tried to be lovely I was shocked when I was asked to describe what was wrong with my meat. I work in the hospitality industry and there are times when you should simply take the guest feedback and leave it at that. They did offer me - in fact tried to insist - that I get a free dessert but I just wanted to get out of there - at that point it had been 2 hours. While the view is stunning the service and quality and price do not warrant a visit at all. more

Don't go for the food. 2/26/2011

Drinks are reasonably priced. Awesome view. BUT ugh! Food is Bland Bland Bland. The presentation is barely better than taking a TV dinner and sliding onto a plate. The Rice tastes like Uncle Bens, and the Fish comes out cold. Apps are OK. Seriously for the price I should have just gone to Houlihans. more

View 11/12/2010

I have been here several times, never a disappointment. I attended a wedding here, I was blown away! Really a nice place, food is always great and the view is so fantastic, you can see from the GW to the battery. Watching the ships go by and sipping a cocktail at this place really takes you to a nicer time. more

Excellent Views 2/15/2009

My boyfriend took me here not even as a result of a special occasion, but just as a Sunday evening treat. I have always wanted to try this place out and it was well worth it. Located on the waterfront, there is plenty of parking in this secluded area of Weehawken. We had reservations and were seated immediately by the friendly hostess. Our server was extremely knowledgable on the menu. There is an outdoors, so if it is warm enough, couple can enjoy a nice glass of wine outside, overlooking the Hudson. I had the Halibut while my date had the Mahi Mahi. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. Also, the menu is a little more than simple, but you are able to make substitutions and interchange many things on the menu. AWESOMEEEE IDEA. Why restrict yourself? ANNNNDD the server was so friendly he would suggest making another decision if your own ""chef choice"" was not exactly...trustworthy. It is a large restaurant and dimly lit. Not much for eclectic ambiance, however great food and good service. Pros: Seafood! Cons: Chain Restaurant more

Tasty Food 11/8/2008

The quality of food here is by far the best. The food looks as good as it tastes (if not better). Going to fancy restaurants you expect tiny little portions, but the portions here are actually very decent. Remember to save room for dessert because they are very delicious.\r \r This is probably my favorite restaurant in terms of taste alone.\r \r Pros: food, desert, atmosphere more

Nice view, Nasty kitchen 9/24/2008

Great view, poor kitchen, poor table service. I've been several times in the past few months because of its proximity to where i live. Bartenders are friendly and the lounge is the best option. Go for apps and drinks, then head into the city for dinner. take a pass on the overpriced, very average food. The bass is typically undercooked, the salmon overcooked. Steak's not bad, but not what you want at a seafood restaurant. Bisque is better than the chowder. Oysters had shell splinters in them and no mignonette option, just cocktail sauce. Service is brutal on the dining room floor, but view is spectacular. Managers nod and smile, but are there as lightning rods for complaints more than decision makers. Stick to the bar and drinks only if possible. Pros: stunning view, good bar staff Cons: everything else more

Dirty, bland food, horrible service 7/27/2008

I am from NYC and our group decided to head over to NJ for a change. We arrived, had a drink, waited for our table ,and waited some more. Finally got a nice table, but that was about it. It seemed to take eons for someone to approach us. As we were waiting, we noticed the silverware had spots on it, and there were crumbs all over the floor from the previous diners. The menu was kind of pricey for a chain restaurant, and usually you get what you pay for. Not here. The food was incredibly bland, and downright horrible. Even the dessert was not that great. We had preordered a chocolate cake which was overcooked and dry. We definitely will not be back, so save your money and come to NYC where you can have an amazing meal for the same price. Pros: nice big windows, great if you are a tourist. Cons: everything else. more

Not expensive! 8/4/2007

I absolutely enjoyed my meal. The food was very very good. I had the mahi mahi and it was perfect! Had a nice balanced taste. The pina colada was very good as compared to other places. The view of the NYC skyline was great while having dinner. Kid and family friendly atmosphere, and romantic as well. And whomever tells you that its expensive must either be a hobo, cheap, or talking b.s. because plates start in the mid $20's and go up to $40. Desserts are all good, try the molten lava cake and the key lime pie. Drinks are reasonably priced as well. Valet park your car for $4 till their parking lot is renovated. For a large group of 15 with a full course menu (appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks), bill was only $800 including the gratuity. Well worth it. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Go for the drinks only 6/23/2007

I had dinner today, a family dinner. The food was not fresh. My grilled salmon was dry, vegetables were very bad, nothing had taste, this is my honest opinion and I don't feel bad to say that. Same applies to clam chawder and Lobster bisque. This was very disappointing when you invite people; theres was as bad. I was very embarrassed. Waiters are same like the ones you find in Atlantic city, none professionals. Sorry to tell you, but I am blunt. So, go for the view and a drink. The panorama is amazing. Pros: The View Cons: every thing else more

Great Customer Service & good food 4/7/2007

We celebrated our anniversary Friday at Chart House and had a great time there.\r \r Service was exemplary and our waiter was spot-on with his recommendation of the Sea Bass, which was wonderful.\r \r We are out of town quite a bit but will definitely make it back to Chart House again soon.\r \r Pros: Great wait-staff service, prompt delivery of food, excellent variety of food on the menu, wonderful view Cons: Waited for table even though reservations were in place. Bad policy. more

DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU HAVE ANY FOOD ALLERGIES! 12/23/2006

My wife has an allergy to dairy; if any butter is used in cooking, she will become very ill. We told this to the waiter, and asked him for three dishes to confirm with the kitchen that there was no dairy used in its preparation. He told us the grilled salmon was clear, so she ordered that dish.\r Shortly after getting home, she got violently ill. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager about the food. His first response when I mentioned an allergy was to say that it was not their food - she must have eaten something else. When I told him that was not possible (she had not eaten for 5 hours before that, and prepared that meal herself) he told me it could be staph in the fish, but that she would get over that (most restaurants are a bit more concerned about bad food, since a restaurant lives and dies by the quality of its food). I pushed him to check with the chef, to confirm that it was something they prepared. He called me back shortly after that, to confirm that, despite their promises, they had used a bit of butter in the rice that was served with the fish. Rather than check to see how bad her allergy was, the chef argued that there should not have been an issue, since the kitchen uses on a little butter in the rice. They then acknowledged that this was an error, and assuming got my wife ill.\r To make up for her suffering, they offered us a free brunch for 2 at the Chart House (this, while she is still sick).\r If you have any food-related allergies, do not go there! Their relaxed attitude (and lack of remorse) caused her to become very ill. Pros: Beautiful view of the city. Cons: No regard for food allergies. Service was sloppy and hurried. Staff were a bit arrogant for a restaurant in that area. more

Thanks but No Thanks!! 10/9/2006

This location is dynamite and provides a breath taking view of NYC, this is something all can agree upon. I made reservations for 2 @ 6:45 on a beautiful fall Saturday evening. Upon arrival, my girl and I waited in a line for 20 minutes just to speak with the maiterdee. Confident the ""Reserve"" in Reservations meant a set table, a bottle of wine, and some decent food was only a few minutes away I was blown away when I was handed a beeper and an hour plus waiting time. Thinking a few drinks at the bar could pass the time my girl and I tried to belly up only to be told we were not allowed in as the maximum capacity had filled the room. Not surprisingly we left the establishment shortly thereafter. Not one apology was offered at any time. In my eyes, character counts and the Chart House showed its true colors when my girl and I tried to follow up on our reservations. While the views are spectacular the people skills are horrendous. I'm a seller of the Chart House. more

Great View 4/7/2006

I'm happy that at least one person writing a review agrees with my assessment of the Chart House. The food was not good. The service was even worse. The waitress seemed much more interested in servicing a new table of rowdy guys than in taking care of tables she was already dealing with. We got the wrong wine and couldn't get her attention for the second bottle. Couldn't get more water and waited at least 20 minutes for our check. The seared asian scallops tasted as if they had a bottle of soy sauce poured on them (of course making them Asian). This was my second bad experience there with food and service. However, the view is spectacular. If nothing else go for drinks...and a spectacular view. Pros: View!!! Cons: Food, Service more

Beautiful View 12/6/2005

We usually go to the Chart House to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. I must say the view of NYC is so beautiful! Our last time there a few weeks ago was early at 5pm and it was very crowded and noisy. If you don't mind all that noise then go to the Chart House. The food is very good too but for the most part, it's just regular food, nothing special. For myself and family we would only go here to celebrate an occassion, I do prefer smaller, quiter restaurants. Pros: beautiful view of NYC Cons: too crowded, too noisy more

A Perfect 10!! 10/19/2005

The view is breathtaking & the service is top notch... the ambiance is wonderfull. The staff offers impeccable service. I had Lobster Bisque it has 2 oz. of Maine Lobster in it. My boyfriend had the New England Chowder it was good but I think the award should go to the Lobster Bisque. I had Filet Mignon with garlic mash. It was divine melts in your mouth. My boyfriend had Prime Rib it was good .We didn't want a bottle of bubbly on a weekday so we each got little bottles of Korbett it was just enough. We had Lava Cake... we ordered when our food came it takes at least a 1/2 to make it. It's cuz it's so good you need to taste it!!! All in all we're already coming up with excuses to go ahead really soon in the next few wks!!!! more

Wow 12/12/2004

Just went here for my girlfriends 23rd bday. If you've ever been along the river in Weehawken you have an idea of the top of view the chart house has to offer. Add to that great service and great food at a reasonable price and you have yourself the beginning of a great evening. The lava cake dessert was incredible and I recommend it. Pros: Great Wine List, Scenic, Classy more

Skiline 11/21/2003

Food was good and the view of the new york city skiline was terrific even on a foggy rainy day like that of when I went. I would highly recommand requesting a table by the window. Although they do the typical what kind of water would you like questions the service was good and overall very relaxing to place to eat. Pros: View, Good Parking more
