Five of us had dinner Sunday night April 24, 2005 at Castaway. We were all excited to be there until we experienced slow service with lots of mistakes and awful food. We were ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/14/2014

I had to pick my girlfriend up here once. It was very busy and people looked to be having fun. She said she had a lot of fun but that it's too loud for me. She was surprised the food tasted so good for ""bar"" food. I used the bathroom and it was clean. more

Set on top of the hill. A great restaurant to go to for a date or romantic time. The scenary is just beautiful and amazing. The food is also good. Make sure to make reservations as it does get full. more

amazing view 12/21/2011

The only reason I go to Castaway is the view, the food is okay. Actually its better then most places, but for the cost it really isn't worth it.. The view is amazing, especially at night when you can see part of Downtown lit up and most/all of Burbank. And if you're outside they have fire pits right on the deck near the edge of the 'cliff' its on over the golf course/Forrest park. Some of the staff are nice, some look just plain miserable. more

great environment 12/20/2011

Relaxing at The Castaway 12/19/2011

I have been at the Castaway few times. They valet is okay, just need to wait a little bit longer. However, the buffet is great at lunch. The food is fresh, I do really liked the steak. They have desert as well. To be honest the main reason I go to the Castaway is the view. They have great view that you can sit and relax. You can see the LA Downtown as well, the mountains and there are golfing course at the bottom of the restaurant. more

Amazing view & food 8/22/2011

I have been to tons of buffets and unlimited mimosas for Sunday Brunch but this restaurant by far is the best! Amazing view, you can sit outside or next to the window. The service is terrific, everyone is very attentive and then food quality is alot better than the ones Ive been too which remain nameless lol. I first went back in March for a brunch for my friends birthday and decided I would go back this past Sunday for my own birthday! I had a blast!! I hear they have Martini Mondays, might have to look into that! =) more

A Par Above the Rest 10/21/2010

Exquisite food, service, ambiance...and then some. For anyone interested in enjoying an exquisite dining experience, the Castaway is a MUST EXPERIENCE!!! \r \r For starters, the service was EXCEPTIONAL! The restaurant Manager, Luis Martin Del Campo ensured that my sister's 30th Service Anniversary with AT&T Celebration would go off without a hitch...and he exceeded our expectations. And the food, what can I say...SENSATIONAL!!! MY COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF AND TO OUR EXCELLENT HEAD SERVER, A.J.\r \r Anyone interested in celebrating any occasion needs to consider this venue...Great Service, Food, View....A MUST for anyone wanting to experience A GREAT TIME! \r \r more

Food Poisoning, mgr didn't call back 9/30/2010

Terrible...3 out of the 5 people in our party eating Sunday brunch ate the Sushi and got terribly ill. My boyfriend called Castaway Tuesday to make a formal complaint and was told by the staff on duty they could not do anything about it. The only could refer him to the lead manager MARK and he would follow up on Wed. Wed came by no call,...Thurs came by, no call. So we tried again Thurs night and talked w/ Rushad. He assured me that MARK would call back on Friday. Currently waiting for MARK to call... Terrible terrible terrible...avoid!!! more

worst service ever 7/9/2010

If you are a woman, and you go alone, you will not be noticed. YOu might have to go inside to the bar to get service. If you sit alone outside, by yourself, waiting for your friends to arrive, you won't get noticed. the waiters and waitresses will see you, and even give a quick look, but, no one will approach to take your order. If they do walk by, and you do raise your hand, or you do give them an eye contact, you will get this from them, ""Do You Need Anything?"" Now, is that a question to ask a customer at a restaurant? Even the folks sitting next to us, were having a hard time flagging down a waitress. There are lots of them, don't get me wrong, they are all congragated inside at the end of the bar. I am not sure who is interviewing the help being hired, or if they are giving them training. But, I would imagine, they work and make money mostly on tips. I only tipped my bartender, because that is where I went to get my service. Even the boy who brought my food outside, had no manners. When I asked him to place my food elsewhere, because i saw some aunts crawling where he was going to place my food, it is as if I was talking to a wall....He paid no attention to the work ""aunts"",,,, don't go there. you will be loosing out on your money. Pros: beautiful view, nice bartender Cons: worst waiters and waitresses, worst service ever more

Food poisoning anyone? 3/10/2010

I would have given NO stars, but a rating is required. Quick overview: Mold all over our food, extremely salty everything, staff was loud and unprofessional as they carried out their work and held conversations with each other in front of guests that should have been kept private (all evening), obstructed view of LA and sunset because of dirty windows and trees. Very pricey for disgunstingly poor quality food. Full Review: Went here yesterday (3/9/10) and was terribly disappointed. Aside from the dirty windows that prevented the view that we came for in the first place, the seat cushions were stained, the plates at the salad bar seemed like they had been dipped in water and then just put right back out again. The salad bar produce was old, wilted lettuce, rubbery cucumbers, and salad dressings that looked like they had been out for days. Our food was extremely salty from the appetizers to the entrees. We sent our prime rib and mashed potatoes back and asked for them to be cooked without salt. Instead of making a fresh plate, they served from the same batches of potatoes and cut of meat they already had prepared (our server even told us so and then asked if it was any better, wtf?. He was nice enough to change our order to the salmon, but by then (1 hour and a half later) I didn't event want to eat. The final straw was when our dessert came (cheesecake), It had mold all over the top. Our waiter confirmed that it was mold, and notified the manager (who rightly comped our entire meal - if you could call it that). Two hours later, I left hungry and completely grossed out. My boyfriend and I were sick all night, and still feeling it this morning. Now I see why this place had all of 5 tables full at sunset, which should be the height of their business. Where's the pride of ownership? Pros: view (but there are other places top find a great view) Cons: terrible food, must valet, unprofessional staff, dirty more

Better than it use to be 1/24/2010

I went to my company's Christmas Party here years ago and it seemed pretty basic except for the phenomenal view. Literally, I felt like it was a factory. But I went their for cocktails in the bar recently and it was really casual yet a little upscale. Felt like make business deal here if only I had a business. Pros: Beautiful View Cons: Old School, Needs Facelift more

A great place to have a dinner or banquet 12/29/2009

I have had the opportunity go to Castaway a number of times and have always had a good experience. The waitstaff is very courteous, the view overlooking the valley is amazing and the food is good. I have also had the opportunity to go to a holiday party and found the banquet space a great place to party!!! Pros: View, Food Cons: It's in Burbank more

Spectacular views, cozy firepits 12/29/2009

This is a stunning place to have an event in the Valley. Tucked up in the mountains next to a golf course, I have been to many parties there day and night. I prefer being there at night in front of the fire pits. Good cocktail service and the staff works hard. Pros: Bright lights, big city more

Managers- Terrible. Servers- Awesome. 11/29/2009

I was recently there on Thanksgiving, and I've been there a few times before. I used to work in a restaurant as a manager, so perhaps I'm extra critical, but sheesh is the management terrible there. I witnessed a particular example on thanksgiving. An elderly woman feel on the stairs by the fish tank. A nearby male server immediately passed his tray of drinks off, and assisted the woman, checking if she was okay, and even as she kind of shyed off to her table, he brought her shoe to her. Someone suggested to the server that he report the incident to a manager in case there were any legal problems later (if the woman were to sue). I saw the server tell his manager, who seemed to care less, and proceed to yell at the server, something about, ""What am I supposed to do about it?"" I was shocked that the manager would treat the kind, helpful employee like that. I tried to catch the name of the server on his name tag, something long starting with a ""W"". Anyway, I was impressed by the server's professionalism in continueing his work. I bet he's used to incompetent management. The valet service also works very hard. Those boys are literally running their entire shift, and they were very polite. Pros: Drinks, accomidating service, valet Cons: rude, unprofessional management more

It did not meet my expectations 9/8/2009

After learning about this place on TV I decided to visit it with my wife and daughter. The recommendations on TV were great and the view very attractive. Unfortunatelly, my expectation were not met. The food lay out on the center of the room was messy and not reorganized to keep guest happy. The view is great, no doubt about it, but service is not. more

Here to Defend The Castaway! 7/28/2009

I was always interested in trying Castaway, but was scared off by bad reviews posted online. I have now been twice within the last few weeks (summer 2009) and both times had positive experiences. My first Castaway experience was dinner for 4. We had friendly and attentive service and a table by the window with a lovely nighttime view of the valley. There aren't any surprises on the menu (which has been described as ""tired""), but I like to think of it as ""traditional."" We had steaks, salmon, and sea scallops. All of it was enjoyable, and everything was perfectly cooked. There was no reason to complain about anything we ordered. My second experience was for Sunday brunch. All the standard brunch items are there (including extensive dessert options), and as good as any other Sunday brunch buffet. Sitting outside on the patio overlooking the valley added a lot to the experience. Based on my experiences, I will happily go back to the Castaway. Pros: Good food, great views more

Valet stole my car fuses 5/21/2009

Everything was working (complete) in my car when I handed the keys to valet. After dinner, got the car back from valet and drove away. Turned my radio on, dead. Plugged my cell charger to the cig lighter, dead. Overhead console, dead. I said to myself that's weird. Since I have another car, I didn't use it for a several days because cannot live without a radio while driving. Several days later asked my neighbor who knows about fixing cars and he told me most likely blown fuse. We opened the fuse box and behold! 4 fuses gone. He smiled and told me fuse just don't evaporate. So just beware. Cons: valet more

Appalling Service! We didn't even eat. 2/19/2009

I thought that would be an amazing place to take my fiancee for valentines day. I made my reservations on Jan. 10th for 9pm - I had a feeling it would fill up quickly. We walked in the restaurant at 2 minutes to 9pm. The lobby was enormous and packed wall to wall. The hostess told me that it would be a 25 minute wait. That's ok, after all this is supposed to be an amazing place and it is valentines day ......................... 30 minutes later I asked her how much longer, she told me it would be another 15 minutes ............................. another 30 minutes later, the hostess, who was getting snappy at this point because we were not the only ones that were unhappy, told me that there were still 7 people in front of my name -we had been waiting for an HOUR. I asked her if she thinks they overbooked a little, she said that they TOTALLY overbooked. I commented on how I thought that was a horrible business practice and we left - hungry and angry. Shame on this restaurant - and it seems from the reviews on here that the food is not even that good. The prices were about $60 per person, not including drinks and tip. If I go to an expensive classy restaurant the last thing I want is to be treated like cattle. Pros: Never found out. Cons: Service. Service. Service. more
