Cary O'Brien's Design and Color Spa

Everyone at Cary's is friendly and competent. You could go to any of the stylists and get a great cut and/or color. I've seen Paige, Meghan and Connie and all are great! I feel like I'm getting pampered when I go there. And, don't we all need to feel that way every now and then? Thanks to all of you at Cary O'Brien's. more

I loved my experience at Cary O'brien's. I'm new to the St. Louis area and thought it was a little far to drive out to St. Charles. I was so wrong. Cary O'brien's is worth the drive which turned out only to be 20 minutes anyways. The stylist, Jen, did a great job of explaining how we should get my hair healthy again (I'm kind of blonderexic). She also told me the price up front before starting any services. She was professional, friendly and did a great job with my hair. I can't wait to go back and see her again! I'd recommend Cary O'brien's to everyone I know. more

Having lived in over twelve different homes in the last four years I have seen my share of salons. Everywhere from London, England to Las Vegas. Never have I had such a wonderful salon experience in my life. EVERYONE was friendly, Jennifer my stylist, took the time to explain what she was going to do and what everything would cost. I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of or that they were trying to over sell me at every turn. The staff is very knowledgeable and it shows. While waiting for my hair to process, I had the owner come over and chat as well as the stylist next me. It was nice to not be ignored, like in most salons. You get what you pay for by choosing a master, a trainee or someone in between. My hair turned out better than I thought! more

I bought a groupon to use here and I wasn't expecting much since it was discounted, but I needed a massage and added a facial as well. Howeever, the girls here took really great care of me! The massage thereapist Jennifer was excellent, took her time to explain what to expect and told after I told her about my low back pain she said she could spend more time on it. It felt great and she knows how to give deep work! My facial was done by a new girl there, Kylie who did an great job and showed me some products for my skin (the anti aging stuff by dermalogica). All in all I was impressed by their services and knowledge and I can't wait to go back! more

I used to love Carry O'Briens, so much that I brought 3 new clients with me when I went on my wedding day. Out of 4 of us only one got what they wanted. I did not have a trial done on my hair because it was only to be curled and the veils put in. This is something that anyone who does hair should be able to do. Well, my veils were put in wrong and upside down, and the curls fell before I even got home. (I only live 15min away.) We also had to redo 2 of my bridesmaids hair when we got home. I called a couple of days later to let them know I was upset and though I had not had a trial on my hair, a lot of the mess ups seemed to be rookie mistakes and I had expected better. They didn't have anything to say, not I'm sorry nothing. Holly in the spa is amazing but I will never go back after I saw the lack of customer service. May I recommend Studio Branca? more

I have been going to Cary O'Briens for 6 years now and paying full price. I have seen Cary on occasion and a few other girls over the years. Recently my friend (who will remain nameless) had gotten an email that said Cary would do her hair for FREE for several visits because her stylist left and I guess this was their desperate attempt to get her back in their salon. This really upset me that they would value a person that does not even go there anymore. They should value the clients they have and give them a discount(especially in this economy). This was a very bad business move. Here is some advise: remove your head from your *** take a breath of fresh air and you will get far my friend. Pros: no coment Cons: 1 less client more

I heard Cary speak at Day Break a retreat I attended and liked what I heard so I thought I would give them a try. I went on the training night. That's the night Cary trains the new girls. I was a bit anxious to have a newbe but I have not like my hair for a bit so why not. The stylist they gave me was Blair something. She started wiith A LOT of questions I thought just for a cut and color. After we talked she excused herself and came back with Cary. They went through the conversation againg and told me what they were going to do. I did feel better knowing that she was being watched over. I got highlights and a color something, never had the color something before. Looked good. The cut was different also, used thinning scissors and my hair now has the bounce I have been looking for. I thouhgt Cary ran on a bit and talked alot but while Blair was mixing the color we talked and he told me how the consultation is the most over looked part of the visit and that they train more on it than almost anything else. I love my cut and color and made another appointment with Blair. Would send a friend Pros: they listened Cons: no more

i have been going to carys for a couple of years seeing one girl. My girl apparently decided to go somewhere else and instead of the staff letting me know they just put me with someone else with out my knowledge.. funny thing not too much later she left too then another and another. obviously the owner is doing something wrong but if you read his "ramblings" it's there own fault?! does he not take any responsibility himself? well mr. obrien obviously the grass IS greenier on the other side! so my advice,,, find somewhere else to go because it wont be long and your girl will be gone but it will be there own fault and nothing to do with the way things are ran there.. stupidity is humorous! Stephanie cut my hair short (looks just like Kate's on 'Jon and Kate plus 8'). I love it. She also added summer highlights for a finishing touch. Wow. I'm over 50 and have always worn my hair one length. This cut took years off of my face. Stephanie has been at Cary O'Briens since February. She said she worked in Phoenix at a Vidal Sasson Salon for 8 years; even studied hair techniques in Europe. If you're wanting a perfect cut and color, I'd ask for Stephanie. Stephanie cut my hair recently and not only was the cut exactly what I wanted, she was really nice and did her best to make me feel like a regular customer although this was my first visit to the salon. I said I liked my experience then I read the other reviews posted. Ouch! Here's mine. I went in on a recommendation from a friend. I needed something new and updated. I was given to a girl I later found out was a level two. (what's that mean?) We had a long but good consultation time about my hair before we did anything, I liked that. I was in for cut and color. The cut was real good just what I was looking for less hair and more bounce. I have a lot of hair. The color was also good as I just want to be blonde. Lots of highlights. She did put something on after the highlights were done it did cost more she said it would look better and I think it did. I found out what her level was. Megan (I think) has been there since beauty school and has gone though the training program. The levels are how they advance up. I guess I'll go back I made my next appointment before I left. I was upset when going to this place. Then to come on here, about to write a review and see that others had the same experiance, just makes me sick. I too had the experiance with the M name receptionist. I don't even have to know her name and i knew exactly who they were speaking of. Tall, small frame and the "you can see the marbles in there" look. She also kept asking me dumb questions after i had awnsered them in my sentance. It was almost like she wasn't listening.My experiance was with a Junior stylist. I will not mention her name, becasue she did do a good job! I'm not upset with her, i was upset with the prices. Too high and not what i was expecting. The cut was what i wanted. I am happy with it. The place is clean and looks nice, but it's not the Taj Mahal. There for i shouldn't be paying a HUGE pretty penny for my cut. I read in other posts about a queen like stylist. Thank goodness mine was not like this. She was pleasant and well trained.All of the other girls seemed kind and polite. I even got a "How was everything?" from the owner and was happy to atleast hear that. I went into this place to get my hair cut. Remember I am a male. I go into there and they ask me what level would you like? Me as a guy i dont realy care much about my hair like women. They wanted me to go the most expensive person which was around 40 dollars. there service was terriable and the girl at the front desk acted really stuck up and her S*** does not stink. To the new eye this place looks great. I WAS a new client. I had my first appointment about 2 weeks ago . It started out , that i was greeted by this uneducated girl. I am being nice when i say this. She was very nasaly and worked at the front desk. Before i barly got anything out she said, your here for Jenny, i'll let her know. Took my coat and said. "do you want a drink?" Now, these are all good things to do, but it's how she did them. I patiently waited. My appointment was at 2. I was getting Highlights and a cut. The girl at the front desk ( i believe her name started with an M ) then asks out of the blue, "where did you get your purse?" "It's fake isn't it?" WHO ASKS SOMEONE THAT ON A FIRST BASIS!!!!! There was another receptionist there. Darker shoulder length hair that seemed on the ball.... TOO BAD I DIDN'T GET HER. I then waited until this Jenny came and got me an HOUR LATE! not only was she late, But she acted like the queen of sheba. That she was all hot s*** and it was ok that she was late. I mean it's not like other people have things to do. After talking with her on what i wanted , she then told me, i don't think you'll look good with that. ( I've had my hair that color before and i liked it) I preceeded to have that color. Long story short..... It wasn't the right color came out orngish red, The receptionist was rude and stupid, i waited an hour and it was not all worth 170!! MAY I ADD SHE WAS SOME KIND OF PROFESSIONALL DESIGNER!.. just don't go there , waste of time and money. Pros: Nice place, well decorated. I have tried every salon in St. Charles, and Cary O'Birens was the best! Salon De Christie seemed too stuck up for my taste. Cary O'Briens definetly took care of ALL my needs. I feel anyone who has had a bad experience should give it another shot because it is well worth it! I have been going to Cary's for quite some time now and always I feel like a part of a family to the way I'm greeted to the occasional hug. A lovely woman that has 19+ years of experience has been a friend a wonderful hair designer to me and all the girls have soo much training I am never nervous about the new styles they always want me to do. I always feel treated as a queen. The new york woman from queen's has done some services for me, she's awesome! along as some young stylists, I have gone to spa people as well. very relaxing from the pedicures to the massage, and don't forget the facials.
