Great Local Familly owned business 10/28/2011

I am a local photographer and i use Camera Solutions for servicing my equipment as well as renting high end lenses for especial events. This facility is one of my favorite Camera Store in town. They go out of their way to help me every time i walk in. Family owned, both husband and wife work the counter, one of the camera techs, a Japanese fellow, is a supper nice person that helps me with repair issues. I get all of my photography needs met in this one place. Highly recommended. more

Cleaned my Sensor, but Rudely 9/15/2010

My Canon 5D needed its sensor cleaned, and there aren't many places in Portland to get that done. Pro Photo Supply recommended I go here, so I did. Upon entering the store, I was greeted with many signs behind the equipment for sale that read, "If you plan to buy *online*, don't waste our *time*." I suppose that is supposed to be a clever rhyme. Not to mention that "online" and "time" don't actually rhyme -- but my reaction was, "Maybe the reason I go to online storefronts is that they don't antagonize their potential customers." So I walked up to the counter and said I needed a sensor cleaning. The fifteen-year-old behind the counter told me it would be $65. I asked, "Can you tell me about the process you use to clean the sensor?" He was confused by this question so spun around and asked the woman in charge. She replied, "We don't tell you how to clean the sensor. That is a service we charge money for." This frustrated me even more than the rude signs. All I was asking for was a description of what I was paying $65 for, but she assumed I was trying to learn how to clean a sensor for free. Once I corrected her that I just wanted to know what I was paying for, she gave me some marketing mumbo-jumbo about how cleaning a sensor is veeeery complex and complicated and should not be approached by amaterus. Basically, her answer to my question was designed to scare me into paying them rather than trying it myself. So, in fairness, they did clean my sensor, and from what I can tell did a good job of it. But the whole experience left me feeling unsatisfied as a customer. Next time I need a sensor cleaned, I will seek out other local options. more

Great Deal 10/16/2009

At last, I founda place that can clean my camera sensors in one day, I cannot tell you how great this deal is for someone that uses their camera for a living. I found out about this place from Pro Photo where I usually purchace my equipment. I am so pleased with their service. I used to have to wait at least a week or more to get my cameras back from other repair facilities..I highly recommend them. Pros: 24 hour turnaround time Cons: none I can think of more

Do Not Go Here 9/14/2009

Recently I had my camera fall off my tripod into the sand. It was pretty full of sand so I called around to get estimates for cleanings. I was very unhappy to find out it was going to cost me quite a bit. But when I called Camera Solutions and explained my problem they told me it would only be $65 over the phone. When I went in I showed them how sandy the camera was and they took it in back for an estimate and they still quoted me $65 for the cleaning. When I showed up today to get my camera it was in a neat little plastic baggy. I paid and left. Thankfully I checked the camera in my car because it was STILL covered in sand. In every hole. The lens was still grinding. Sand was coming out of the edges. I walked back in and said "What EXACTLY was cleaned on my camera?" They cleaned "the outside" and the sensor. I explained AGAIN what happened to my camera and how thorough of a cleaning I needed. The man apologized and said there was a misunderstanding. He said he would credit my $65 to a better cleaning and charge me an additional $100!!! No. That is NOT what I was told and I am NOT paying another $100 on something that should be done. After fighting with him for a few minutes he gave me a full refund and said "well at least now you have a clean sensor." Bite me. Pros: Parking Cons: Misleading, Ripoff, Hard to find more

Awful, don't go here! 5/9/2009

I should have learned after taking my camera there once. I got some sand in my lens so it wouldn't close. I took it to Camera Solutions and they charged me around $300 to get it fixed. That took about 3 weeks. When I got the camera back, the flash wasn't working. I had to leave to go back to college in Colorado, so I didn't have time to show it to them and explain what had happened. I just got back from school and took my camera in again. It took around a week and a half to even find out what was wrong with it. They told me it will be $200 to replace the flash unit. Something in my gut tells me there's nothing wrong with the flash unit at all, and all that needs to be fixed is the bulb. I called in to talk to someone about it and no one seemed to know what was going on. Very frustrating... they said they'll take another look at it, but we'll see what happens next. Needless to say, I will not be taking my camera here again. It takes too long, the workers are not particularly customer friendly, and they rip you off. DON'T GO HERE!! more

Fast Service 1/17/2009

My camera broke down before an important event. I went to Pro Photo and they recommended that I go to Camera Solutions for repair. I took my camera to them and they repaired it within 6 days and it was reasonable to fix. They are very knowledgeable people there, they understood my situation. I highly recommend Camera Solutions, this is a type of store you can rely on. Pros: Knowledge, Parking more

Great Place 1/17/2009

Camera Solutions is one of my favorite camera stores in Oregon. I am a professional photographer and I first started brining them my repairs 3 years ago, and every time has been great service. They were always honest about what it would take to fix my cameras and VERY fast. I ran into a repair problem with them once, but I told them my concerns and we worked it out. I have been a loyal customer since then. Pros: parking, service, prices Cons: Macadam is tough to navigate more

Rip Off 1/1/2009

I brought my camera here after being recommended by Pro Photo. I use my camera professionally and they told me they could put a rush on it. They charged a 50 dollar non refundable diagnostic fee and claimed that repairs would take 5-7 business days and I would get an estimate soon. 2 weeks went by and I called them to see where the estimate was; they had emailed it to the wrong address. Once they emailed it to me, the total was $485 and they only warranty their repairs for 90 days. Also, it would take another 3 weeks to fix. At this point I felt like I was being jerked around. I sacrificed my $50 and sent my camera straight to Canon. Canon estimated the repair at $315, 1 year warranty, and it will be back to me within a week. I like supporting local business, but will not accept being overcharged 35% and get less of a guarantee. If you look up camera repair in portland, there is another place that does not charge $50 diagnostic fee, offer 1 year warranty, and who's rates are about $100 cheaper than these scam artists Cons: over priced reapairs more

A Satisfied Customer 6/6/2008

I've been a customer of Camera Solutions for several years since they were first recommended to me by Pro Photo Supply. During this time I have had them fix a camera, clean and repair a couple of lenses and clean the sensors on both my consumer and professional SLR cameras many times. During this time I have been very happy with their service. more

Don't know what they're doing - RIP OFF 4/21/2008

Despite charging my battery and trying many things, my digital camera would not turn on. I took it to Camera Solutions and they charged me $60 for a consult. Well they said that there was a glitch on the main chip/mainframe (I don't know the language) and that it would need to be replaced costing me $200-$300. Well for that I said I'd send it to the manufacturer where they'll gaurentee the work for at least a year. My gut was telling me that it just didn't seem right, so I went to Camera World and asked if I could try a new battery... WA LA! Camera works. No huge cost to replace some chip. A BATTERY! Camera World doesn't fix cameras but they did way better than Camera Solutions. Keep your money. Go anywhere but here! And I'm sorry to the guy below... but it's NOT good business practice to be sold a broken camera and then have to bargain to only pay half to fix it. Pros: None Cons: Rude Service, No Product Knowledge, Falsified Information more

There was a problem, but they fixed it. 2/15/2007

I brought in my camera for a repair. The LCD screen was damaged. When I brought the camera in they did not mention, nor did I notice, the huge split in the top of the camera. I was mad to say the least, but they stepped-up and were willing to meet me halfway on the cost of the additional repair. That is what I call a good business practice. I have always recommended them and heard good things, and now I know why. more
