Love bluehour! I think it is the prettiest and classiest restaurant. I like that I can sit in the restaurant and have a special meal or hit up the cheap happy hour or eat in the b...

Darn. How Dissappointing. The food is unfortunately highly inconsistant, as if the cooks one night differ significantly in skill or commitment from the next. On top of this, it is...

DATE NIGHT GONE WRONG! 2/17/2007

The worst experience my husband and I have ever had!\r We chose Blue Hour for our special date-night, yet by the time we finished our so-called ""meal"" we both said the same thing on our way out...""won't be back here again"". After a $270.00 bill we were dumbfounded as to what all the hype is about when it comes to this place. \r The food was bland, boring and sparse at best. Also not much choice for entree selections and forget about asking for wine suggestions, we got the ""evil snob-eye"" look for asking. Believe me we aren't picky when it comes to being adventurous about food. We've dined all over the globe, in many cities and this was by far the biggest RIP-OFF ever! \r If just the food was poor quality I may have given at least an ""average"" rating but everything about this place was ""below average"". To start with the hostess was like ""Barbie with PMS"", cocktails expensive and watered down, appetizers dull, entrees' boring, wait-staff a little too full of themselves considering who they are (waiters for crying out loud, not heart surgeons!) and the atmosphere, nothing to write home about. In fact I guess it sort of matched the whole experience...Lifeless and dull but very expensive! Cons: Everything about this place more

amazing food 2/13/2007

Have never had a bad meal here. When the weather is good enjoy grabbing an outside table and having drinks and appetizers. Pros: valet parking, food, drinks Cons: only a few outside tables more

Is there a waiter in the house? 2/13/2007

Perhaps I just expect too much. This place is great if you don't count the following: service, courtesy, prompt seating, being prejudged by the obviously full of themselves service staff, a or decent wine list. Bluehour fades rather quickly after you get over the ""less is more"" decor. It won't take long for you to realize that the menu, the wine list and the whole scene is reserved for some sort of ""inside group"". To be a truly great restaurant, (one that lasts and continues to grow) it is important to grow your clientele. And in order to do that you must listen to them and learn form them. No one in Portland wants to be treated indifferently or rudely when they have made a time and financial commitment to dine somewhere. The staff at Bluehour needs to get over itself and understand that they are not Bluehour, its guests are. This is not Manhattan, or San Francisco because in those fine cities professional servers take pride in their work and hone their craft in such a way as to bring guests back again and again, not look them up and down and smirk when simple questions are asked. When I recently spoke to a manager after our disappointing experience I was left with the impression that he was a mere figurehead who held no sway over his staff. The menu: seems to have been created for a food writer. The service: absent and/or rude. The wine list: odd, overpriced, and amateurish. Pros: nice curtains Cons: how much time do you have? more

Great evening - great service 1/15/2007

One Candle - the food was great and the service was exceptional and timely attentive. The noise level and the proximity of the adjacent tables would be only negative. I would return more

Superb service and decore, luscious food, fab wine list. 10/4/2006

Ooh, baby. We're pretty new to Portland and always on the prowl for good eateries. Judy is an old restauranteur from San Francisco so together we're a tough audience. But Blue Hour ""Blue us away!""\r Sharing a caesar salad ($16 for two) of romaine lettuce leaves that crackled delightfully when we bit in, we were doubly impressed with the perfect caesar dressing--very judiciously sprinkled and tossed with just a hint of authentic Anchovie.\r We let our waiter recommend a wine after becoming a bit overwhelmed by the choices. Our entrees were delivered shortly after the Syrah was poured--mine a perfectly grilled swordfish fillet with lightly toasted bread crumbs on a bed of tender risotto hiding capers beneath, she a deliciously grilled pork tenderloin on sweet corn. We were in love.\r While normally we would eat desert elsewhere, just for variety, we couldn't pass up the Creme Brulee to see if it was up to snuff. The custard itself was divine, but the crust wasn't torched to my liking--it should crackle inot shards of sugar when tapped with a spoon, but this only suffered a dent of sorts.\r From the moment we entered the restaurant to our departure the service was just stunning. The decor is minimal and serene--blacks and whites with ceiling to floor cascades of delicate, earthly green fabric dividing the huge dining hall into intimate areas.\r \r A near perfect experience. Incredibly expensive and worth every penny. We will be back! Pros: Attention to every detail. Defines fine dining. more

Perfect Birthday 9/14/2006

I especially enjoyed my birthday dinner at Bluehour. The highlight of the evening was my choice of dessert, artfully presented w/ a candle of course. I appreciated the creativity of the preparation & the complimentary taste of a bite of a crudite from the chef. Everything from the salad to the entree was exquisite. The plates we ordered were a taste sensation--they blended well together beautifully. The beets were delicious! The atmosphere & the music was exactly my taste in a restaurant--the decor was very relaxing; a great place to linger & talk while eating. The pace of the service was just right as well; we were attended to in a timely manner. I am noting Bluehour at the top of my favorites list. Pros: trendy scene & ambience Cons: I wanted to sit in the middle square curtained area more

Excellent food 9/8/2006

The food was excellent. I order a lot to get a chance to taste a lot but the prices are out of sight for small portions. The comination of 3 caviars was $36 but we laughed hysterically when the pinpoint\r items came out. They must have been shrunken! Foie gras was superb. Risotto very good too.\r The monkfish had interesting ingredients and tasted good. True, I ordered a lot, but the bill came to\r $157 before tip for 2 people with no liquor or wine. The service was adequate, friendly yet somehow neglectful and distant. The waiters and staff all seemed unhappy. By all means, take advantage of the free valet service. I arrogantly thought I had a great parking spot which was not a legal spot and that was an additional $60!! Pros: Food, valet parking, bathrooms Cons: Portions, service, price more

Still going strong!! 9/4/2006

Bluehour has established itself as one of Portland's finest restaurants. Wine list is very hip and has selections from many NW wineries large as well as small production. Bravo! Food is always consistent. Very bubbling and active environment, but people mind themselves and are appropriately respectful, in other words, the place tends to have a buzz, but people act like adults and do not yell, as some other places tend to tolerate. Romantic and classy, yet hip! Our Wine group will be returning for the great service, wine list and exceptional cuisine! Pros: cuisine, wine list more

beautiful restaurant - consistent service and food! 7/3/2006

it's neither trendy nor tired! it's a good restaurant with great food! Atmosphere is wonderfula nd cheeses are to die for!! more

QUITE EXCELLENT 5/30/2006

Was there on Sunday, May 28th. Food was QUITE good, they do an excellent job. Serivce is FABULOUS, very well done. Surprising to us, wine bottles are 1/2 price on Sunday (although I think that 'special' was ending at the end of May). Took that opportunity to get a 1/2 priced TURLEY wine and boy, that was tastey. Not many restaurants get TURLEY wine, so you know you're in good shape when you run into one. Aside from that, though, the food was VERY good (although pricey) and the WAITER was fabulous, very good.... extremely professional and helpful. Pros: food, wine Cons: pricey more

Good for Grad 5/24/2006

I took my granddaughter for dinner after her graduation and she loved it. Even though she is not used to fine dining, she was very comfortable. The menu has a good variety of entrees. Every time I have been there the service has been very good. The bar menu is a good option for a snack as well, when you just want an after work experience and some relaxation. more

What's with all of the HYPE!! 5/20/2006

My wife and I went to this highly recommended night spot for wonderful culinary experience. The evening's courses started with the fois gras, which was excellent! The next course was a risotto the kitchen cooked too long and forgot to season with salt. After that we had the misfortune to order the gnocchi which came out on a white plate with a white glutinous/sticky sauce (again..little or no seasoning). Lastly, we tried the duck confit...it was dry and flavorless because they cooked the ""H"" out of it. If you like fois gras, try theirs, it's very good. Please, leave after that. Pros: Fois Gras, Service Cons: All Else more

Best restaurant in town! 4/13/2006

We visit Bluehour at least once a week, and no matter when we go it's always fabulous. Tonight we brought friends from out of town in to have drinks and snacks in the ""cafe"" and they were more than impressed. Our server was fun and the food and drinks were delicious. If you go, try the cocktail called Diva and bacon-wrapped scallops. Thanks again Bluehour for another fantastic meal! We'll be back soon! Pros: service, cocktails, food more

Train your servers then I will come back! 4/9/2006

We got the worst server! She never sold or recommended a single drink or food item! Even the famous hot cocoa was served cold (menu price is $3.50 but they charge $4.00?). Until our food was served (20 minutes later) she NEVER returned to our table! Not to offer bread or re-fill our water? She was too busy laughing with the hostess. The food was good and I tipped her 20% so the hostess and busser that worked real hard can make money! As for her, I received better service at the drive thru of Taco Bell! She was asked by another table to recommend a place for dinner she said ""let me think about that?"" Did you just open another restaurant on 23rd? Hmm Maybe she should have suggested her sister restaurant! As long as you have this kind of service you will not have me as a guest! Cons: service, service, service more

Another Sublime Experience 4/3/2006

I have had breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and dinner at Blue Hour on trips to Portland and the last one was perhaps the best. The calamari appetizer with green lentils was a delightful combination. The lamb was an outstanding entree, the red beet and orange salad imaginative and delicious. There seems to be a desert for every palate, heavy or light. I noticed a new feature: cheese plates. I didnt try one but applaud the effort to offer something different for those who want to feast on wine and cheese. The tables are well spaced so that you dont have to have interaction with other diners and can actually carry on a conversation with your companions. I have always found the service pleasant, informative, and discrete. They are having a half-off wine promotion on Sundays, I was able to enjoy a wine I would otherwise not try because of my budget. more

Management changes not good 3/30/2006

What happened to this place? It was hip now it is hippo. The cool staff has been replaced my corporate clones. It looks the same but the feeling is very right-wing. The food is cooked ok, but not much imagination. Drinks are just ok; but the food prices are a joke. Cons: attitude, host, price more

Bland food not worth the money. 3/28/2006

I am willing to pay the price for good food, but I will pass on this place. The food was very bland and tasteless, yet very expensive. Also it had a cold and snooty atmosphere. more

Great Food ~~ Great Service 3/27/2006

I was at Bluehour with a group of 12 people who all showed up at different times. The server was wonderful at keeping all of the people and the tabs separate. Food and drink went from fries to full dinners, beer, wine and fancy martini's (vanilla orange drop was to die for!!). The range of food from down home cheese fondue to wonderful pasta w/truffles. I had the panini sandwich with pastrami, it was the leanest, tastiest pastrami I have ever had. I'll be back! Pros: Food, Service, Range of Menu Cons: parking more

C minus 3/26/2006

The food was very bland, and the service was snooty. The price for two was not at all a good value. Would not go back. more

Becoming a B Movie 3/22/2006

The place has become a dealers hangout, yet very spendy. It has lost the good food touch. more
