I had dinner at BLT last night and it was a fantastic experience! I'm still gorged and very happy. I started off with a vodka cocktail while waiting at the bar for the table (va...

visit on 7/9/08 7/13/2008

This is the first time to review a restaurant, but felt I should write since we had such a great experience. We had a reservation for 7:15 and got seated right away, maybe because it was a Wednesday night. Our waiter was so helpful and very nice. No attitude at all. We had arugula salad and beet salad, shrimp poppers, steaks, side of parmesan fries and home fries. All were exceptional, except the home fries. They were good, but nothing special. We will definately visit again. The atmosphere is great and all people we came in contact with were friendly and courteous. I hope the bad reviews are taken into account and any problems corrected because this is a place I could visit every time we come to L.A. Pros: Great food, staff friendly with no attitude. Cons: pay for valet parking more

07/11/08 Dining Experience 7/12/2008

This is my first time writing a review. I felt the need to do so because I think others should take into consideration my dining experience last night at BLT before choosing to eat at this trendy establishment. My boyfriend and I made reservations for 8:30 but unfortunately were not sat until one hour later. Once seated we asked if they could open up the bottle of wine that we brought, but they told us that they do not allow outside bottles and they would have to ask the Sommelier. He came over and said they would wave the corkage fee since we waited for so long. We asked him to clarify if there was a fee or were outside bottles not allowed. He said they weren't allowed. Our food arrived in 8 minutes but the steak was rare on the inside and black on the outside. Since we asked for medium this was unacceptable and he took it back. When it came back 5 minutes later it was so charred on the outside it was uneatable. We felt we had to ask our waiter for the manager, but the manager never came. After 20 minutes we flagged down a manager on our own. He told us that it is custom for their steaks to be burned/charred on the outside and still very pink in the middle. This was unacceptable to us as the steak we ordered was $43. He said that if people don't want it charred on the outside then you should order it ""no char."" We laughed at this as we knew it was a copout. He ended up taking it off our bill. We thought the disastrous part of the night was over, until we got the bill with a $50 corking fee! It was like every corner we turned there were problems at this restaurant we had heard other talk so fondly of. We completely vowed then and there we would never be back. It was was too noisy and crowded for a ""fine dining"" restaurant. If trying to choose a steakhouse in LA, I would recommend Mastro's hands down to BLT. Pros: Free parking Cons: Bad food, too noisy, long wait even with reservations, bar too crowded, do not allow outside bottles of wine to be corked there more

ON A TUESDAY? 7/8/2008

I can't tell you how much fun we had at BLT recently, on a TUESDAY night. A few celebrities at the tables - but not an ostentatious vibe - just very LA and very classy, the kind of place you'd want to show off to visitors and return to yourself whenever possible. You can do the fresh seafood bar - fresh, impeccable - near the front of the restaurant, sit outside, or settle in at one of tables, especially in the back , for a long night of guilty pleasure (aged steaks can be pricey, but are ridiculously good ). A more than worthy successor to the old Le Dome space. And by the way, our server was great, which is not always the case in new restaurants (maybe we just got lucky, but I don't think so - whoever's running the place knows what he or she is doing). Meanwhile, you'll find me at the bar nibbling on the array of free snacks whenever possible, pretending I'm as cool as this place is... more

Disappointment 7/7/2008

Four of us went here for dinner Saturday night and were all unimpressed. After waiting close to 40 minutes for our table we were seated and had to wait another 20 minutes to receive the popovers that everyone raves about. They were the highlight of the meal hands down. Every other part of the meal was a disappointment. The seafood platter had tasteless shrimp and very salty oysters. The steaks were cooked quite rare for medium but beyond that were rather tasteless. Our waiter was nice but not especially attentive and the sides were a big time disappointment. The hash browns were really crispy on the inside but way too undercooked on the inside and onion rings looked so good but fell flat as well. Although the restaurant has great atmosphere the food just doesn't measure up to Cut, STK, Mastros or even Wolfgang's. Pros: Popovers Cons: Food more

Worst Experience 7/3/2008

Went there last night for dinner. The service is horrible and the food was tasteless except for the oysters which were a little too tasty as in not fresh and fishy. We were a table of four and ordered the seafood platter as a starter to share as well as the crab meat cocktail. Crab was actually really good but the portion was absurdly small for the price. The seafood platter was not edible. The oysters were disgusting and fishy. The steaks were tasteless and undercooked except for the T-bone which was caked in black pepper and was impossible to eat. Two of the sides came out cold with the steaks andit took them 10 minutes to bring out hot ones and they were not very good when they did come out. Onion rings were not cooked enough and the cream spinach had tons of garlic in it. Horrible experience all around STAY AWAY! Pros: Beautiful Space & Popovers Cons: Management, Service & Food TRIFECTA!!! more

THINGS HAVE GONE REALLY DOWNHILL 7/2/2008

I have been to BLT three times now and it has gotten progressively worse each time. The first time I went about 6 weeks ago we had an exceptional meal. The oysters and clams were really fresh on the seafood platter and the bone-in strips were cooked to perfection. The service was great without being too intrusive and the cinnamon donuts were really good too. The second time I went we skipped the seafood platter and tried the sole as well as the strips. The sole was really good and a massive portion but the steak was tasteless. It was an ok meal but nothing exceptional. We figured we would try it again last night and the meal was absolutely horrible on so many levels. The service was atrocious and our waiter looked stoned. The seafood platter was completely unacceptable the oysters were fishy and the crab claws weren't cracked properly so you couldn't get at the crab meat. The sole which was so good a few weeks before came out cold and tasted off. The steaks were significantly undercooked and the porterhouse was coated in a thick layer of black pepper that made it inedible. It is too bad that BLT couldn't keep up the way they started out because it had the potential to be a great restaurant the only thing that has been consistently good every time is the popovers but unfortunately that's not enough of a reason to return to a mediocre steakhouse in a city that has so many exceptional ones. Pros: Popovers Cons: Service & Quality of Food more

Great Steakhouse on Sunset 6/22/2008

As usual, I was hesitant in trying a ""trendy"" restaurant on Sunset, but my mind was eased when I read reviews about this new-ish restaurant and the focus was really all about the good solid steakhouse fare. Upon entering, I was pleased with the nice large open dining room abuzz with the sounds of dining, conversation and laughter. (Warning - it can get very loud in here!) Hostess was very friendly. After being seated, we were provided with a complimentary chicken liver pate with toasts - very savory and flavorful. In addition, BLT provides complimentary cheese popovers - large immense pillows of yumminess! Pros: Great Food, Atmosphere; Cheese popovers are awesome! Cons: Small sized side dishes more

Great Steak & Beautiful Restaurant 6/11/2008

The popovers were absolutely incredible and so was the chicken liver spread that came with the bread,We ordered the seafood platter to start which was exceptional and although a little pricey at $115 I felt it had plenty of variety and quantity to justify the price. We also ordered the lobster cobb, which was good but not great. The steaks were some of the best I've had in LA hands down. It was a group of six of us so we ordered several different cuts and by far the best was the bone-in New York that was a seasonal special. It was cooked perfectly and every bite was delicious. The biggest let down of the evening were the sides. We ordered an absurd number of sides because we wanted to try everything but only a few of them were any good. The corn, creamed spinach and fries were good. The onion rings and hash browns were incredibly greasy and undercooked and the gnocchi had way too much cheese on it. The stand out among the desserts we ordered were the cinnamon donuts with blueberries and ice cream. So Good! Pros: Great Steaks, Atmosphere & Dessert Cons: The Side Dishes Need Improvement more

Great Service! 6/2/2008

Amazing service...fun atmosphere...terrific food. Took my daughter and son-in-law for dinner. We wanted to try something new..and so glad we did. Pros: ambience more

Terrible kitchen. Loud space. Poor staffing. 5/27/2008

Just was so unhappy. Pros: Flattering lighting Cons: Poorly staffed more

Still Working On IT! 5/13/2008

BLT is a great location and great vibe, you feel as if you are in New York with the hustle and bustle of conversation, wait staff running back and forth with delicious looking plates of sliced meat appetizers, cast iron skillets with 40-ounce steaks, seafood platters, and everything else you?d imagine a steak house to offer. The volume is loud, the crowd beautiful, and the decor simple but classy. more

Famous name - Unacceptable Execution. 5/2/2008

I was very excited to go to this fabulous location only to get disappointed on every level possible. Maitre d ? unaccommodating and a bit arrogant, seated us at 9:30pm with a 8:30pm reservation on a Friday. The waiter took our orders but was otherwise pretty inattentive, something I?m not used to. Considering a check far over $500.00 ? he should come around checking the wine and water glasses every so often, making sure everybody is taking care of and everything is ok. I?d love to send Chef Ramsey in there for some damage control. Pros: Popovers are out of this world delicous! Easy Parking, Great Location Cons: Inattentive service, Cold greasy food, Arrogant Maitre D, more

Definitely worth a look - great steaks and plenty of eye-candy. 4/24/2008

So I went with friends on a thursday night and it was pretty busy, but the hostess was excellent and we didn't wait. Service was very good and the menu is interesting (expensive as hell, but that's to be expected). There?s a lively bar scene with the usual wanna-bes, actor-types and movie bigwigs, but all in all an entertaining experience, to be sure. We played spot-the-trophy wife/hooker. It wasn?t hard to play even on a Thursday night, so I guess rich old uncle BevHills can?t hack the weekend crowds these days. more

Excellent Service, Great Food 4/21/2008

This is the place you want to take a date if you want to have a good time and enjoy great food. The food is excellent, and the service is even better. You should try the Kobe Beef if you go there. It just melts in your mouth. The dishes are a bit pricy but it is worth every cent. Pros: Convinient Location, Valet parking, excellent experience more

Would not waste my time or money 4/18/2008

The experience I had was lack luster to say the least. A group of us about 8 people sat in a booth closest to the private room. I was shocked to see dings and smudges on the wall. This was at eye level and rather noticable. The server was great. Had it not been for her the night would have been a total bust. Although we did not get the sauce with our tuna steak I am sure the food experience would have been much better. I just think that for my money I expected a little more. Pros: Valet Cons: Long wait for reservations more

Excellent! 4/8/2008

Prompt and professional service, excellent food on highest quality standard, perfectly trained staff, wonderful atmosphere. There is nothing to add and nothing to change. Pros: Perfect! more

Most promising restaurant in Los Angeles! 3/28/2008

Wow! What a sensational new restaurant here in L.A. The longevity of this place is definitive due to the polite and knowledgeable wait staff, the classy (but not stuffy) fine dining atmosphere, and the incredible food you won't find anywhere else in Los Angeles. The decor is warm and beautiful, PERFECT for a romantic evening, or a nice evening with friends and family. You will find a balanced mix of customers (they don't only cater to the Hollywood scene, although it won't be unusual to see an A-list celeb dining near by.) The food is again amazing. They start you off with the chef's signature Popovers, a huge bread, cheesy muffin, which alone was enough to ensure I come back! It is a steakhouse but the other items such as the Black Bass are equally as impressive. The onion rings are a MUST! Oh and I suggest starting with the crab cake & tuna tartare (both wonderful!) Be sure to have the sommelier pair a wine with your meal!!! I'm not sure what was the best part of our evening but the doughnuts with coffee ice cream and chocolate fudge might have been what truly did me in! Service is impeccable, not like other LA places where you wait 20 before your server is in sight. Make a reservation soon, you will not be disappointed! more

BLT is a Winner! Incredible Food 3/27/2008

This place is what a restaurant should be, great service and the food is a 10!!!!! Wow, this place is amazing! Pros: Great atmosphere, attractive, cool staff and yummy dishes Cons: didn't see any more

Great Popovers 3/25/2008

Why does this happen when a great NY restaurant opens here in LA it goes downhill? The hype is over rated. NY is much better. It was pretty empty for a Saturday night but I will give it to them that they are newly open. The wine sommelier was very helpful and the popovers were amazing but that is where it all ended. The decor and ambiance is great on the Sunset Strip. Unfortunately food could not match that. We started with the Burata and tomato salad which was good. The server had recommended the Sole and indicated that the side dishes are very small so we may want to order more. We decided on the special peas for the evening.. When our Sole came out it was cold and when sent back it came luke warm and rubbery the second time. The peas were really for 1 person and not great to be the special. When we got the check we were shocked on how much it was. The bill was more then what it would have been at Mastros or Cut. You could get much better elsewhere. Skip the food and hang out at the bar instead. Pros: wine sommelier and the popovers Cons: no smoking on patio on the sunset strip more
