Delicious French Prix Fixe at reasonable price 4/21/2008

Service was very attentive, dressy casual atmosphere. Price is great at $26.50 for 3 courses and white tablecloth. The Coq Au Vin was fantastic--lots of emphasis on the Vin, so have someone else drive. Very flavorful food. I did notice they used chopped ham to season both my appetizer (crispy gnocchi) and main entree, both had rich flavors as a result. My companion had the Belgian Endive salad and Twice Cooked Pork, both were tasty, but not outstanding enough to make us want to try them again. more

Excellent! 3/12/2008

Have not had a bad experience or plate of food. Superb seafood pasta at a rate that is outstanding! Always friendly service. more

Affordable French Food with tasty choices 12/11/2007

Had a dinner date there tonight. First time. A lovely, jewel of a restaurant tucked away in a Vons strip mall. The now serve a wonderful 3 course meal for only $26!. The food and portions were excellent. Excellent service. Nice local place for delicious French food at an affordable price. Worth checking out. Pros: Intimate, not stuffy, tasty entrees, lots of free parking more

Great Bistro in Burbank 7/8/2007

Oh, this is a tasty little bistro. Chef Miki has the touch. It is to our benefit that he has started his own restaurant. The decor has improved since he first opened. The setting is attractive, with tables, banquettes and a bar where you can dine. I have not been disappointed with any dish I have ordered, although I have not had their signature dish of chicken with lots of french fries. While the menu had not changed in some time, there are always specials for both appetizer and entree. The wine list is well thought out with interesting choices that complement the cuisine. Burbank is lucky to have this restaurant. Attentive service on all levels. Pros: The food!, Parking available more

Great Local Place 7/4/2007

Bistro has great food. The chicken and fries are delicious as are the fish, seafood pasta and duck. The service is quite 'French'; not too attentive, but present. The servers are knowledgeable and the wine selection is good. Reservations are a must. Romantic, with loads of locals in attendence. Pros: Food, wine, ambiance more

Oh my God that Chicken and Fries 12/22/2006

Bistro Provence has become by far my FAVORITE local restaurant, and maybe my favorite overall restaurant in the LA area. The food is exquisite - the specials are innovative and the ingredients are high quality and the standard fare is also fantastic - beef bourgignon (how do you spell THAT?) is so tender and rich in flavor, and the pressed chicken is just to die for. The service is just fine - in fact, being an almost-regular customer, it's really nice to be remembered by the wait staff, they make me feel special. The best part is the overall experience - I always leave feeling happy and satisfied, like it was a special occasion. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service, Parking, Thursday night prix fix, kids half price! Cons: can be a little crowded and loud, but it's all good more

Wonderful everything! 12/1/2006

I love this place. I've now been twice, and it I would highly recommend it to you. The food and service are fantastic. The chef/owner Miki is very warm and welcoming. There is always a constant stream of traffic every night. It's a hot spot, and for good reason. more

Good Food...Mais Oui! 10/29/2006

I was there for one of the chef's wine-paired prix-fixe dinners. OMG...Miki has brought to Burbank the fine dining that one usually finds in Napa Valley! The prices are so reasonable...and that is the chef/owner's aim. To bring fine dining to a neighborhood bistro without the usual fine-dining price tag. The deal for the price was unbelievable! We had a six-course meal (each course paired with a different wine) for a steal! The best part of it was that we got to meet the winery owner of the featured winery for the night! How else do you get this type of access unless you trek out to the winery itself? The food was perfectly paired with the wine and there was so much food! For those of you who are worried that you won't be full from a prix-fixe meal...think again at Bistro Provence! We are definitely going to be taking our close friends there to share our little gem of a find! Bon Apetit! Pros: Plentiful Parking, Great Food Cons: Place is a little small more

Good eating at reasonable prices 5/18/2006

We've eaten at Bistro Provence twice. First time, put off by surly service, which unfortunately rendered the meal, which was probably fine, forgettable. Second time, things had changed. Service was excellent, light hearted and helpful, without being intrusive, the latter particularly unusual in L.A, where every waiter has a story to tell. There were four of us.(the same previously dissatisfied diners!!) We all started with gaspacho, I had twice pulled pork over garlic mashed/chacroute, my wife, bouillabaise, our friends had cog qu vin and beef bourguignonne respectively. Afterwards, we simply had to divide split a fabulous apple tarte tatin, then a second!! What with $6.00 corkage, good service, memorable food...we now think this is a local to be treasured. more

A little hit & miss 5/12/2006

My girlfriend and I have eaten here three or four times now; in the spirit of full disclosure I have to say thatweI have a passing aquaintance with Niki, the Chef/Owner. On the plus side - the food is good, although purists will tell you that it's not ""authentic"" Provencal fare - they're right, it's not, but given California's reputation for all things ""fusion"", I think it's unfair to single this place out for a lack of purist-compliance. On the minus side - the Maitre D's attitude has been horrible, although I think that the comments about that may have had an effect recently. The wine list seems oddly unimaginative and uninteresting, I think the list could do with the attention of a wine supplier who can provide a little flair and imagination. Generally we've found the service to be very capable and willing. Pros: Good Food, Nice Atmosphere, Good Value Cons: Limited Wine List more

Do you feel what I feel...?! 2/19/2006

I totally agree w/the few other reviews as the services was very lousy: I went there for my B-Day when the place just newly opened. My exp was horrible as not I was waiting for my order for more than 30 min and going no where, but the waiter guy (I should hv asked his name...) came w/the bill but not food which was so rediculous! And the waiter guy even sounded like if I was joking until I seriously asking him WHERE's my food?! Mediocre the food, below average the services w'd not keep my interest in going back there no more. Unless (I hope) it's all being improved as it's a brand new business back then...this's the only 'excuse' I can find for them. Pros: free parking Cons: bad services, location, limited tables more

Distracted waiter forgot entree! Poor salad. 2/1/2006

1:00 PM on a weekday. I ordered a mixed green salad, soup and salmon entree. Soup arrived quickly, not really ""chicken"" soup as there was only one Campbells sized chunk in it - no problem. The salad was slower to arrive - didn't taste great - the dressing was poorly applied, almost imperceptable. The balance of greens was not good - I wondered if I'd gotten the end of the bag. Then I waited for my salmon, and waited, and waited, and waited. Nobody noticed my twiddling thumbs for about 20 minutes, then finally my waiter acted surprised when I mentioned it. About another 5 minutes later, I got the smoky ham hocked salmon - not quite what I wanted. I felt traumatized at the unattentive. Not worth the $20 plus paid - hesitant to return, but I may give 'em another try. I'll report again if I do. Pros: clean atmosphere, medium prices, lots of butter given Cons: horrible service, mildly arrogant staff, food is inconsistent more

great find 1/16/2006

Read the 11/05 LA Times review and tried this place out. We sat quite comfortably at the bar (without reservations). The food was excellent and the head chef came over to talk to us, and even gave us a smoked salmon appetizer on the house. We ordered two other appetizers (pate and mushroom), two entrees (halibut special and beef bourguignon), a dessert (pear tart) and a decaf. The service was attentive and friendly and rather quick compared to most French restaurants (notably slower than Americans would like), but did not rush us out at all. Only drawback, if it can be considered so, the location is in a strip mall that is less than 'quaint' but as the LA Times pointed out, the lower rent etc reflects in the very reasonable prices for the food. The maitre'd recommends reservations at least a few days in advance. Pros: service, ambience, food more

User review by eversince 1/13/2006

Our experience fell somewhere between the glowing review in the Times and the withering comments on this site. Everyone loved their food, the wine list is reasonably priced, and we were all charmed by the warm, inviting ambience, a real contrast with the strip mall lcoation. On the down side, service was sometimes distracted, and the process of making a reservation was attitude-tinged. For how fine the food was, however, it's all worth it. more

Rude Management, Poor excuse for French Food 10/29/2005

Upon entering Bistro Provence my boyfriend and I were approached by the maitre'd who eyed us with disdain and asked if we had reservations. We did not, and despite the fact that several tables were open we were told we could only be served at the bar. We could not even enjoy a glass of wine for the inconvenience as they do not have a liquor license. The food is a bizarre interpretation of French cuisine that was served slowly. Both the Paella and Boulliabaise had small, unimpressive variations of seafood and were served in odd, non traditional red sauces and broth (a huge disappointment to my boyfriend who is French). All in all, a huge letdown. Save your money and yourself the experience of being treated rudely by a staff that cares little about customer service. Cons: Rude management, No liquor license, mediocre food more

A major disappointment 10/16/2005

I made reservations to this bistro in advance for our 1-year wedding anniversary. Twenty-five minutes before our reservation, as we were ready to go enjoy a romantic night out, the bistro calls telling me they had a party that was larger than expected, and would we mind dining at the bar. I told him that would be unacceptable. He hemmed and hawed and said he ""[didn't] know what to do."" He finally told us to come 15 minutes later than our reserved time and he'd ""see what [he could] do. The man's tone did not inspire confidence. We were treated like an inconvenience. Fortunately, my wife and I found another lovely restaurant that could accommodate us that very evening, and I cancelled my reservation for Bistro Provence, much to the manager's indifference. A fine restaurant begins with exceptional customer service. We received classless treatment from a supposedly classy place. more
