Yummy Yum Yum 10/21/2009

Dress up, hit the town and make sure you get the Avocado Fried Rice! :) You will love the views and setting of Asia de Cuba more

Delicious fusion. Beautiful seating area and views 10/21/2009

Went here with the wife during Dine LA. Tried their most popular dishes: Butterfish, calamari salad, some sort of chick pea dumpling and a donut-hole type dessert with dipping sauce. All very very good and you'll pay for it. Definitely worth trying once and a good spot for a special date. Getting window seating with a view might be a little tough but other seats still get you a decent view. Pros: Inventive dishes; Great views of LA. Cons: Definitely on the pricey side more

Excellent experience, but pricey 3/22/2009

We had reservations for 8:30 and called to say we are late- they saved our table for another 15 minutes and we arrived in the nick of time. We were seated on the patio next to the windows for beautiful LA views. The staff was friendly and the ambience was nice- good music in the background but not too loud.\r \r The mojitos were fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered jumbo scallops to start and they were outstanding. We also ordered the duck, the pork roast and the butterfish with a side of plaintain rice w/guacamole. The food was delicious, albeit the pork and duck tasted a bit too fatty. Oh well, rich food for a reason sometimes. :-)\r \r Our server was attentive and we enjoyed the evening. I don't usually go all out at pricey places, but it's great to treat yourself once in awhile.\r \r Overall, and excellent experience and I may return one day. Pros: Nice atmosphere, views, delish food Cons: a bit pricey more

Hottest Scene and Best Food in LA 3/19/2009

This is hands down the best spot in LA full of gorgeous people and the best food. The calamari salad is exceptional as is the steak and fish. The drinks are unique and potent. The service is impeccable and the scene is all hollywood power players. This is the place to see and be scene. Pros: Atmosphere, Food and Drinks! more

Not that great 3/17/2009

Horrible food and service. We had not been here for three years and had friends staying at the Mondrian so we figured it would be easy to eat downstairs. We had a lovely table on the patio but that was the only positive on the night. The food was truly gross. The ribs were rubbery, the calamari salad which I remember being exceptional was drenched in an absurd amount of dressing and the butterfish was cold. The $16 dollar drinks are also ridiculous. Too many better restaurants in LA to go to this dump. Pros: Outside patio Cons: Service, Most of the food and Cost more

RUDE, DIRTY & HORRIBLE SERVICE 3/16/2009

The calamari salad is still excelent as is the butterfish but everything was unedible. The ribs were chewy, the tuna was way way too salty and the cold sake was room temperature. Our waitress was rude and was never around to order more drinks from and the manager was clueless. He came by and asked us how we enjoyed our meal before we had even been served any food yet. The place was great 10 years ago now it is living off its old reputation. The crowd was pretty trashy as well. Pros: Calamari Salad & Butterfish Cons: Overall Experience more

Lousy Experience 3/11/2009

We went here on a Saturday with an 8pm reservation and had to wait over an hour until we were seated. The host was incredibly rude rather than apologetic. Once we were seated it took another 30 minutes to get our drinks and order and the waitress was missing throughout the meal. They have 4-5 managers who are just standing around like morons while we were sitting there with dirty plates for 20 minutes. Way too expensive for way too mediocore of an evening. Was great 5 years ago and had a beautiful crowd. The crowd is now trash and the restaurant is clearly living off its past luster. Pros: Butterfish and Calamari Salad Cons: Management & Service more

for the butterfish, if nothing else.... 3/5/2009

Nice experience. I'm not sure the food was of a caliber I would expect at $100/pp, but it's pretty tasty. OMG, the butterfish = DELISH. Pros: nice place, decent crowd Cons: a tad pricey more

Servers are super friendly 12/4/2008

The food was good for being fusion. Martinis were tasty. but their sushi sucks.....don't eat raw fish here. Other than that the service was good. After dinner we went to Skybar for a few minutes....this place is a so 3 years ago.....I wasn't thrilled....just a bunch of people trying to be cool. You can go to Asia De Cuba for the hip scene but I have had better food in less expensive places. Pros: Servers, Martinis Cons: Sushi is not good more

Great view, and even better food 7/2/2008

Hey, so like everyone else I just had to try Asia de Cuba. I heard all the reviews and raves on the view, the butterfish, and the lobster mash. Everyone was correct.\r I had a Saturday night reservation at 9:30pm, my guest and I arrived a little early hoping to go over to Skybar for a drink before dinner .... well no such luck. The doorman at Skybar was RUDE, he is one of the rudest ppl I have come in contatc with in a very long time, he needs to be retrained!! Anyway, we went back over to Asia de Cuba only to have the Host tell us that we still needed to wait another 20 minutes, because we had requested the patio with a view. Okay so we went over to the bar and had a few drinks (mojitos are to die for), and before we knew it our table was ready.\r Now for dinner: Our server was amazing, he recommended the Crab Croquettas, and ropa vieja of duck for our apps (he offered the Calamari salad, but too many ppl had allergies to items in the dish) the Char sui short ribs and butterfish as entrees, for our side we had the Plantain fried rice, and the Lobster mash. We were in heaven!!!! Food came out at decent intervals, not to quick and not to slow. Dessert was excellent, we had the Carrot cake and the Flan. I have tried Carrot cake and Flan from other places but they don't have anything on the Carrot cake and Flan at Asia de Cuba. Carrot cake was really moist, not too sweet, and the icing was perfect.\r Asia de Cuba is 1 of my favorite places to eat. The staff there is amazing, from the ppl who make your reservation (Tica & Jessie), to the host (Bea, Danielle, Jason), the servers (Michael Banks, James, Larry) to the management (Stephanie, the funny french lady :) ).\r The only donwn side to Asia de Cuba is, parking is way to expensive, and sometimes it takes a really long time to get seated, even if you have reservations. Oh yeah and that you can have guaranteed seating, I hate that, sometimes I just want to know where I'm sitting LOL more

NEVER GO AGAIN!!!! 6/23/2008

It was actually my 2nd time to this place! The previous experience was fine; nice environment, great food, good service. This time it was totally a blown off!!! \r My party has a total of 17 people. I made a reservation about 3 - 4 days ago. Since it was my 2nd time there, I already knew that we were required to order from their party menu (13 people or up). However, after discussions with my friends, we decided to put ourselves into 2 tables so we get to order from their regular menu and hence to try more different plates. So I called and their attendent said it was ok to put us into 2 tables but we need to put these 2 tables under 2 names. It was not difficult at all, so I did. When we actually arrived, the difficult part was actually come. The resturant manager forced us to order from the party menu and purposely arranged us into 2 tables with an absolute different direction (the restaurant wasn't filled at all). At last we had no choice but to pick from the party menu. After we sitted, we ordered our drinks and water, they only gave us options of sparkling and distilled. It was $10/bottle for distilled water and that we actually wanted the regular iced water (they have but they didn't provide you the option until you asked)!!!! The food was fine but then when these waiters come to change your plates, they would push off your hand, spank your head, etc. just to get the plates???? Not even a fast food restaurant would do these to their customers indeed we are required to pay 20% guauity for this kind of service!! \r Honestly, their food was great but with this kind of service and attitude, it wasn't worth a next time!!!!!! more

Worth a Try 5/13/2008

The patio seats are beautiful, absolutely excellent ambien. Food is decent like the Crab Croquettes, the Roasted Lamb Chops. The rolls are average so I would not recommend that. Also, the portions are pretty big so be prepared to eat on a empty stomach or you could just share the entrees with your party. Overall this is a good place for delicious food and nice ambien. As for service, I think it is really average, staffs are not particularly friendly, but at least they aren't rude as other hip restaurants more

totally not worth it 4/17/2008

the food's boring and below average, the staff was way too into themselves than care about serving you nor were they informed about the menu, the drinks were nothing to brag about, and overall the place soley depends on the fact that they're in the mondrian on the strip. the salad nicoise was below mediocre at best, and the butter-fish was a poor substitute or excuse for not being able to serve (for whatever reason) chilean seabass. the wine selection disappointed & the cocktails were not delectable by any means. the food was so boring & bad that we decided to get drunk to compensate but even their drinks weren't really good or crisp tasting or refreshing. it's so not worth it for what it is. Pros: inside the mondrian on the strip Cons: bad everything else more

Always a Wonderful Experience - Expensive but worth it - Sit outside by the pool for Romance 3/28/2008

When you make your reservation request one of the tables by the pool. You can't get one of the ""ultra hip"" lounges with a small group but the best tables in the house are actually for 2-4 people. They are right on the edge of the pool overlooking the cityscape beyond. Extensive winelist and perfect service. I am a demanding client who makes requests ahead of time and they executed it all flawlessly. I discovered Asia through its NYC and SF incarnations and the LA version is my favorite some days. The entire menu is divine so I will not point you in any one direction, except to say the that butterfish is a must try. SkyBar is located in the \r Mondrian though I don't think dinner guarantees entrance. I tend to skip Skybar anyway, even when I lived around the block for the ""rougher"" venues on the strip. more

Expectations met. Comfortable, modern ambience is gift wrapping to the great food. 3/9/2008

These are one of those dining experiences that have to be experienced and won't suffice into words. \r \r Attended: Wednesday Night\r Service was attentive and with a cordial smile. Appetizers and dishes came out promptly under 15 minutes. Portion, presentation and taste was perfect. Despite being reputed as one of the top high end dining experiences in LA, you pay the tab feeling a great sense of value. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service (Wednesday Dinner) Cons: I hope I never expereince any in the future more

overall a perfect night and dining experience, RUN dont walk ;o) 1/26/2008

We went this weekend and had the BEST experience. Beatrice at the front, made us feel right at home the moment we walked in. The bar was crowded but we got serviced quickly. I do recommend the mango mojito. although my boyfriend had the mambo king and LOVED it! I was rather surprised at how friendly everyone was-I had always heard of Asia de Cuba and Skybar and had figured it would be a typical pretentious LA scene, but I have to say we were surprised at the excellant service- The scallops were incredible, we liked the buttterfish, LOVED the short ribs and will be back for the lobster mashed potatoes! Cudos to the chef! The only downside was waiting for valet parking, I believe we were competing with SKybar guests and it was a hastle....but worth it~ Pros: friendly excellant service, great view and people watcing more

  • The restaurant at the uber-sleek Mondrian hotel is a white-on-white fantasia packed with expense accounters, hotel guests and pretty people on dates. Philippe Starck cuckoo clocks line the stark walls, while hundreds of tiny lights create a warm, romantic glow. The patio, with its surreal giant clay pots, ficus trees and panoramic views, is one of the loveliest dining spaces in town. Caribbean-Latino-Asian dishes are served family-style. Crab croquettas are a lighter spin on crab cakes, giant Asian pesto grilled shrimp with wok-charred coconut-pineapple is flavorful and the pan-seared ahi is a favorite with its mashed potatos topped with crunchy wasabi peas. Desserts are elaborate architectural concoctions that don't sacrifice flavor for height: The Bay of Pigs banana split is a humongous tower of chocolate, coconut, ice cream and yes, more than a few calories.
