My name is Katelyn, me and my boyfriend were proud owners of two beautiful Persion/Himalayan cats. My one female cat became pregnant prior to the age of 1 years old. Yes, I should have gotten her neutered , that is something I will take full responsibility for, but since I didn?t, I planned on taking full responsibility in finding homes for her kittens. My male cat has since gotten spayed so we wouldn?t run into this problem again. Having two cats is a very big financial responsibility, since I just took my male cat to get his shots and have him spayed, I was waiting until my female cat had her kittens to do the same, since it would not be safe to have that done while she was pregnant. Sunday afternoon my cat went into labor, she had a beautiful kitten, and then stopped having contractions. We thought she still felt chunky and knew that it was unusual to have only one kitten but we were unsure if there was more kittens in her. Someone I knew had a litter of only one kitten before so I knew that it was something that could happen. I also knew of a cat that had 2 kittens one day and then gave birth 2 days later to another kitten. My female cat was very attentive to the kitten that she did have and showed no signs of having more kittens as of Sunday night when we went to sleep. Monday morning when I woke up to go to work, I checked on both the mom and kitten, there was no signs of any issues, I left for work. Thank goodness my boyfriend was home on Monday because she began to go into labor that afternoon around 2:30pm. There was complications with the labor, the kitten was coming out feet first. He did everything to assist with the delivery but she was tiring out. I did not get home from work until 4:50pm that afternoon when I called my mom and asked her to come over, since she used to work for a veterinarian in this area and had experience on this. My boyfriend did not know to take her to the vet sooner, he was hoping nature would take it?s course and she would be fine. We are not veterinarians or certified vet technicians, we never received that degree and not knowledgeable to all complications that could occur during cat pregnancy. The professionals should be understanding of pet owners lack of knowledge in that area and not to pass judgment so quickly and write us off as bad pet owners. Between the hours of 4:50pm and 5:30pm, I started calling all local vets from Kingston to Woodstock, seeing if I could bring my cat in for a cesarean. Every vet I spoke to could not take my cat in because it was so late in the day and my cat was not an established patient, and we were referred to the emergency animal clinic that opened at 6:00pm. One vet in this area offered to make me a appointment for 5pm the next day, my cat would have been dead at this point if I waited that long. So me and my boyfriend were forced to use the emergency animal clinic in Kingston to save our cats? life. We arrived there approximately 6:30pm with our cat, and they took her in right away. Before we even spoke with the veterinarian, one of the worker asked to speak with us, and was very rude to us. She couldn?t believe that no area vets would have taken us and we should never should have let this get to this point. She did not care that we told her we called all vets in this area, she made it seem that we were neglectful pet owners and that we were liars, she then explained that it could cost upwards of $1000, we do not have that kind of money so we filled out for a line of credit and were approved for only $500 with the additional $500 we had in cash. We then went back in the waiting room, until the vet could speak with us when she was done with her exam. ( see second part of review with Kate02)
