Never Again 4/24/2009

I decided to take my 3 yr old dog here when he stopped eating and drinking. He was very lethargic and not acting like himself. I must say they were very good with time, I didn't wait long. However, the initial exam was done and the vet said they saw nothing wrong, they asked if I would like to have xrays or blood work done next. I felt like they should have known what the next step was, I am not the expert. They continued by doing xrays ($153), said they found nothing. I was told they he could be depressed, said he was a little dehydrated $35 for fluids. I was told i could take him home and things got worse to bring him back in to the ER. I was told to put him on a bland diet, consisting of rice and chicken.I called another vet, I was told to give him a stool softener, that he may have impacted stool, to my surprise, he next morning he was able to go to the bathroom, and he felt much better. Apparently the rice didn't help, it swells in their stomachs, and is usually given to dogs when more

Exceptional experience 11/10/2008

After experiencing a myriad of health problems, my cat crawled out from underneath the couch last Wednesday night drooling blood. I took her to Pet ER and couldn't be happier with the treatment she received and the way both of us were treated. The vet and attending staff were gentle, thorough and compassionate. Dr. Willer took time to discuss my kitty's condition, treatment plans and potential outcomes. She struck the perfect balance between professionalism and compassion when delivering difficult news.\r \r I went on a Wednesday night, there were only two other people there, the place was spotless, I was seen within five minutes of arrival and was out within an hour. The cost was $50 higher than what I would've paid for the same services at my regular vet.\r \r I like my vet, but I wish I could use Pet ER for everyday vet services. They were fantastic. more

Kind, caring, and knowledgeable veterinarians 4/21/2008

We had to take our 15 1/2 yo cat, Elliott, to the ER after he was diagnosed with diabetes and had some complications (our own vets had overlooked his bloodwork, and care for the complications had been delayed. At this point, Elliott needed round-the-clock care and review). I found all 4 vets I spoke with to be extremely caring and knowledgeable. I had already done multitudes of research regarding Elliott's illness and additional problems and the ER vets were very well-versed in his situation. They allowed me to call whenever I wanted and explained in great detail what they were doing for Elliott, how he was responding, and their subsequent course of action. I am not writing this positive review because everything turned out great for Elliott (it did). I was warned that everything might not turn out okay and why. I am writing this positive review because of how Elliott and I were cared for and how knowledgeable and caring the vets were. PLEASE do not take the review written by t more

Well worth the money 2/22/2008

I took my dog here after they were recommended by my veterinarian. She was so sick my vet wasn't able to treat her and told me that I should consider euthanizing her. I decided to try Pet ER first. They were very kind and immediately had an idea what was wrong with her and telling me the course of treatment, although they did caution that she maybe too sick to bounce back. They kept her for 2 nights and I was able to take her home, it did cost about $1500 but that it would have been a bargain at twice the price. I especially liked that I was able to go see her and sit with her at any time of the night. For emergencies I'd use them again. more

good but just for emergency 10/30/2007

Reading the reviews from others and with my own personal experience I would have to say I recommend Pet ER. When I was there with my dog the lobby was packed and yes we did have to wait, but when it's the weekend and no other vets are open, what do you expect? When we first got there we were warned of the wait b/c they had over 10 critical pets hospitalized not even counting the patients that were walking in the door. They said we could wait either in our room, or we could wait in the lobby, we choose to wait in the lobby. While in the lobby we saw a couple bring there dog in that was hit by a car, as soon as they entered the building three tech's came to the front to take the dog back to start treating it right away, and the owners were put into a room. Our dog needed to be kept there for surgery. The doctor was very nice in making an estimate just so we had an idea of how much money this was going to cost us. The reception went over Care Credit which they take if you don't hav more

Very mixed review.. 10/26/2007

Most posters don't seem to know there are TWO vet hospitals sharing the reception area and waiting room at the Pet ER. \r They are seperate businesses, with completely different facilities and personnel (including receptionists). On the right side is the ER, on the left is Chesapeake Vet. Referral Service, which has sub-groups for internal medicine, eyes, dentistry, cardiology, etc. And the majority of other reviews here are for Chesapeake, *not* for Pet ER. \r My experience with Chesapeake - specifically with the internal medicine group, AVIM - has been very good, although sadly, the dog was diagnosed with cancer, & had to be put down. I cannot say enough good things about the sensitive and caring way Dr. Petrich and the techs at AVIM dealt with us. \r \r As far as ER, I've had one good experience & one bad one. The good experience was when my dog needed a transfusion; my regular vet had me take her to the ER, where we dealt with a female vet who was kind & informative, as were t more

Don't go here unless it is an emergency. 10/22/2007

Our cat had been vomiting for a few days. Our regular vet was closed on a Saturday. That was my biggest mistake, waiting that long. I take her to the "Pet ER" along with my 3 kids. It cost $110 just to walk in the door. We waited 30 minutes in the waiting area, then are escorted to a room in the back, right next to the operating room, where my children can hear everything that is going on. We wait another 45 minutes till we are seen by a nurse, then another 20 minutes till the vet comes in. She checks the cat over. Says some bizarre things about what she thinks is wrong. We are then given a price list. I have to pick and chose what we want done to the cat, since this doctor apparently has no clue what could be wrong with her. We are then told, she is going back for test that will take an average of 30 minutes. 4 HOURS we are still there. My children witness a teenage girl lose her dog during an operation. The poor girl is hysterical, and is left in the waiting room. The vet r more

The Best of the Best 7/16/2007

Myhusband and I recently lost our beloved 19 year old cat. On Friday our vet told us there was little hope, but my husband and I pressed on, bringing her home where we administered fluids every hour hoping for a miracle. We didn't know our vet was leaving that night for vacation and wouldn't be available to euthanize her. We took her to the emergency center and the care we received was nothing short of perfect. These people have their act together! They have a sense of urgency and professionalism coupled with compassion and kindness. What astounds us is their synergistic way of treating animals. Everyone communicates - everyone knew who we were, who our cat was and what was going on. It's amazing. Some veterinary practices have a great vet but a less than great staff or other places have terrific staff and a vet that leaves a lot to be desired. Each and every person at this center is kind, smart and engaged in the process. We're still amazed. We were strangers to them and they more

Great Vets! 3/1/2007

Care for our dog and cats from several specialists over the years has been the best. Intelligent, thoughtful and effective on all visits. more

Absolutely the best 2/16/2006

We were referred to the Animal ER by our veterinarian after our dog developed what we thought was a bladder infection following a tooth extraction. Ultrasounds, EKGs, lab work ups, and x-rays revealed massive tumors that had been missed by our previous vet. The staff at Animal ER took excellent care of our dog, as well as us. We were given a private room to play with her, feed her, and comfort her, cathers and all, while we said good-bye. Our questions were answered with expertise and compassion, and an impossibly painful situation was treated well. We now have a new pup, and he will be treated at the Animal Emergency Center for anything that develops. more

24-hours!! 10/2/2005

Thankfully this place is open twenty-four hours!! A year ago my dog got into some lawn fertilizer and became extremely ill and we took him to the Animal Emergency Center out on Cromwell Bridge Rd. They pumped his stomach, gave him meds and basically saved his life!! more

Great Emergency Pet Care and Peace of Mind 8/31/2005

When my Beloved Old kitty did a scary thing, and threw up blood, I did the only reasonable thing - I panicked, then I took him here. The wait wasn't as long as I thought it would be and the excellent, sensitive staff took, care of him well and thoughtfully. There knowledge and demeanor calmed me down considerably. The Price was extremely reasonable, even though they probably should have billed us for two :P They also have a "care credit", program you can apply for if you are on a budget. If it's an emergency, this is the place to take your pet. knowing there is a, "Kitty Emergency Room", gives me great peace of mind. (Kitty is fine by the way :) more
