I have never had a better salon experience than the one I ALWAYS have at Andrew James. They are always friendly and so accommodating. The stylist I always see is Marie. She asks me about my hairstyle, is it working, how do I wear it, is there something that needs changing. She is very thorough and is dedicated to making sure my hair is flawless every time. She also knows my lifestyle and will not give me a haricut she knows I will not be able to maintain. I appreciate that honesty. Over the past year I have gone from light blond to dark brown back to light blond. The entire process was flawless and my hair looked amazing both ways. That is a good stylist. I'm sorry to write this as I agree with other reviewers that the stylists are really nice and the atmosphere is pleasant. I got my hair cut a few times and it was fine and then I got a color and it was literally a disaster. I asked for brown/deep mahogany (my hair is brown I just wanted to freshen it up) and specified that I did not want it red at all. My hair was literally purple. Everyone I saw immediately commented. The sylist knew it was bad and gave me a discount - I still paid $200 - and promised to call me in a few days. She said if it didn't fade she would fix it. I never heard from her again and have been using color stripping shampoo (for swimmers) for 2 months now. LIke I said, people are nice and I feel bad writing this, but I went to this salon based on all the 5 star reviews i saw here and think it's only far that I tell people about my experience. Wow! I look great!!! I had an appointment this morning at Andrew James Salon to have a change and I couldn?t be more pleased. I have long straight hair (forever) and finally decided to join my chic pals and add some flair. I chose the salon because a friend recommended it and for that tip I love her even more. Even though I had been told differently, when I nervously got to the salon, I still expected the usual loud music, trendy decor and pouty hair fashionistas. No way. It felt like I walked into somebody?s home. I was welcomed immediately by the front desk person who physically stepped out from behind the desk (a very nice, hospitable gesture I thought), and was offered my choice of beverage. (Now I like coffee so I jumped at it to calm my quaking nerves.) Then rather than sitting down and waiting, I was introduced to several of the ladies working at the salon and warmly led by Megan to her station. She never rushed me but let me nervously ramble about my long hair, about how worried I was to cut it after so many years, how I wanted a change, that I am a professional so I can?t be too edgy, my absolute freakout about highlighting it (we did and I love it), etc. Then we agreed on the new cut, the shade, how to replicate the style, and away we went. I walked out of that salon feeling absolutely, massively edgy yet professional (sort of Chic but not Over-the-Top) and I have not stopped smiling since. I found Andrew James salon on CitySearch and decided to try it out based on the great reviews. I've been going there for almost two years now, and I love it. Everyone who works there is so nice and welcoming - not pretentious at all. When you walk in, they'll offer you a drink (they have a menu of drinks, including coffee, tea, wine, etc. and it's all free). When I walked in last time with that completely stressed, post-workday dazed look in my eyes, the first thing Heather said was, ""You look stressed. Do you need a glass of wine?"" It could not have been a more perfect greeting. After half a glass of red wine and some munchies, I was a new person.\r \r I have had my hair cut by three different people there. Normally, that would scare me - I tend to stick to what and who I know. But I have loved it every time, so I have gotten far more comfortable with having my hair cut by whoever is available. They will give you a list of recommended Eufora products when you are finished with your cut... some people don't like that, but they aren't pushy about it and most of the time I don't buy anything. \r \r Basically, I love this place. They do a great job with my ""mind-of-its-own"" curly hair, and despite the fact that I get a basic cut with no color and I rarely buy products, they make me feel like I'm their most important client. After going to the same stylist for 12 years, in Sacramento, I decided it was time to switch to someone where I live. THAT WAS VERY SCARY! I have always had a very edgy, short style that required a precision cut. I asked a woman at work who she went to and she recommended Andrew James salon - Kaleen cut her hair recently. I called on a Monday and they got me in with Kaleen on Wednesday!!! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The customers they were serving were all happy with their service - I thought that was a good omen for my impending experience. The owner offered to serve me a beverage of my liking when I got there - then they recorded it for my future visits so they would be ready. I had a diet soda but they also have tea, coffee, water, wine, etc. The shampoo was so relaxing I nearly dozed off.... and the jitters went away. Before and after pictures were taken and the actual experience of the cut and style was enjoyable. Kaleen helped me relax and conversed pleasantly the entire time. The overall experience was what I would expect from a high-end salon.... and not as stressful as I had expected. Kaleen calmed my fears and guided me to make the best decision about my new hair-cut. At the end of the appointment, they go over all the products used but made it VERY clear it was not a sales pitch. I felt no pressure when I didn't buy anything. The price was in the ball-park with other high-end salons. I have had more expensive cuts that were not as satisfying! I highly recommend this shop to anyone. I wanted to change my hairstyle that I had for 10 years, the classic straight long hair. I wanted something fresh and I would not regret the next day. So, I searched the net to find a place that suit my needs. AJ salon caught my attention because the good reviews here. I called, Lynette ( the sweetest voice ever ) answered my phone. When I told her that I have thin and very straight hair, she gave me Kaleen. Very good match ! Kaleen listened to me attentively then suggested a style that she thought would look good on me. Indeed. I was happy back then, January 2008, when I got my haircut. I am still very happy now. All I can say, it takes skills to make my hair look good. Kaleen got skills and good artistic judgement. :-)\r I went back the following week to get my hair partially highlighted. In my humble opinion, it's too pricey for a partial highlight and so-so result. However, I am indifferent about it. I also bought shampoo and conditioner for sensitive scalp, and loving it. All I can say is WOW!!! What a great Salon!!! The staff was so friendly, especially the cute red head who greeted me. I loved sitting with a cup of Latte and reading a trash magizine while being pampered. Great hair cut - great experience. I love the products I purchased and recommend everyone buy them. They are worth it. They help keep the cut and color looking great. You wont find a better hair style or latte in California. Pros: IT is all a pro! Cons: NONE!!! more

From the moment you walk in the door, you will be thrilled with all aspects of this salon. The customer service is fantastic. Everyone who works there is so friendly and courteous. The stylists are incredibly knowledgeable, offering valuable suggestions about cut and color. They really care about what the customer wants. They will tell you about the products they're using on your hair, but are not pushy in any way. The products, made by Eufora, are great, smell wonderful, and really last a long time, so they're economical as well. I highly recommend Andrew James Salon! Pros: Great service, great location more

First impressions say a lot. I called this salon and the gal who answered the phone was the owner of the salon and she was very friendly, down to earth, encouraging and honest. She answered all my questions about what to expect if I went there. She explained to me the difference between her salon compared to the rest of them, and that is what encouraged me to use their services. Excellent first impression. \r Upon arrival, I walked in and was greeted immediatly and knew right away that I was in a stress free environment. It was nice and comfortable. They offered me a seat and a small menu of beverages to choose from. The owner had me fill out a customer card and then explained to me what would be happening next and told me who would be servicing me today. Excellent communication.\r The senior stylist was courteous and attentive to my wants and desires and tried to provide that for me with great effort and expertise.\r I got my hair done, it looks good and and feels great. I had some modest highlights put in and had a shorter texturized cut with long layers. \r My only dissapointments were the fact that I paid for a style, yet my hair wasn't curled. I like to get my hair curled with a curling iron before I leave, it lets me feel complete and reassures me I will like the style. . I told the stylist that, so she tried curling my hair with a flat iron, which kind of defeated the purpose, but the effort was there to please me. Which I appreciated. The other dissapointment was the price. Even though I expected the price would be high, I was disappointed that I didn't get my hair curled in the 3 hours I spent in the chair for the money I paid..\r However, I highly recommend this place because of the environment, courteousy, professionalism, expertise plus it's ran very well by a great owner and staff . Stands out above the rest.. \r I got home, curled my hair and I like the style very much. I will go back and encourage you to also. more

I am new to the area, and went to AndrewJames salon after reading the reviews here on Citysearch. It totally exceeded my expectations. All of the employees are courteous, professional, and friendly. They are all very attentive, and the salon operates like clockwork. The customer service is outstanding, complete with lattes, great magazines, a mellow atmosphere, and good music. I wanted to change both my cut and color, and each stylist just did an amazing job--listening to what I wanted, talking over different options, then giving me the best color and cut I have ever had. I simply adore this Salon! Since my good friend referred me, I cannot stop raving about it. I have never been so happy with my hair and I love the Eufora products they recommend. My first cut I wanted them to do was dramatically different from my usual style so I was apprehensive at first, but when I saw the final product I had never felt so comfortable in my own hair. They knew exactly what looked best and shaped and styled it to perfection. Not only are they qualified, every one at the salon is friendly, funny, and so welcoming. They are quick to make sure you are comfortable whether that means a refreshing drink, a magazine, a friendly conversation or all of the above. I have never felt so comfortable in a salon knowing that I am receiving the best service from start to finish. My favorite little extra is the ""to-go"" cup they give you if you didnt finish your drink while in the salon. They definitely go the extra mile here, and I recommend all my friends and family to go. I've been meaning to post this for a while, but everyone knows how lax we get when we want to say something nice about a service or experience we have had. I'm extremely pleased with my hair since I started going to AJ Salon. In fact, it has changed my hair life. I used to highlight my own hair, and trim my own bangs, then I would have to go into a salon to have them ""fix"" it. AJ Salon changed all of that. It is an investment, but now I know I can count on consistency and a professional look every time. In addition to the great color and style, I have learned so much about how to care for my hair, condition, moisturize, style and straighten. This is very important now that my hair has changed texture with age. The staff at AJ Salon is very accomodating, offering lattes, tea, water and a treat everytime. I like the collaberative effort. They all keep track of my likes and dislikes and seem to know every time exactly what I want, even if I want a change. They are young, upbeat, energetic and complimentary. The atmosphere is nice and it makes me feel young. The magazines and music are great and it's convenient for me since my job is very demanding. I can bring my computer in and work from their wireless network (when needed). People ask me all the time where I get my hair done. I have never received so many compliments. I've had more good hair days in this last year than I've had my whole life. That is worth the investment! more

Ok, I don't normally put too much into other people's reviews, but I wanted to share my experience to possibly help someone else out there. First of all, I'm a guy. I used to go to cheap places to get my hair cut and unfortunately, it showed. I couldn't really count on consistency. I can count on a great cut everytime from each stylist at this salon mainly because they all seem to be involved and paying attention. Been going for about 2 years now. When I'm there a stylist takes the lead, an assististant gets me a latte and I sit back and relax. The other stylists check in and occaisionally finish up. I like this approach because everyone knows my name and knows what I like. They do seem to have a system for the handling customers and offering explanations about the products they're using. I'm glad they do this because I would have no clue otherwise. ;) I go in about every 4-5 weeks for my haircut. I tried color at the beginning of the summer (at my wife's request) ""Guylites"". They did a good job and made me look few years younger. I need it. I highly recommend this salon. Sideline tip: Try to stop by Caffe Torre in the same building! I found this salon pleasantly unique. Everyone was\r friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and you can\r tell they really enjoy working there. All the\r stylists work as a team so you get the best specialist\r for every aspect of your new style or color. No\r guessing about who or how much to tip either, since\r none of the stylist accept tips, just referrals for\r new clients. \r \r The salon uses my new favorite products, Eufora, which\r helped me with my very damaged hair. I'm hooked and\r won't use anything else again. They also have Sothys, a \r fabulous cosmetic line which I've been very impressed \r with. Love Love Love, the foundation!!\r \r I left the salon feeling very pampered and refreshed\r with my outstanding new cut and color and a stack of\r business cards to hand out. I've been trying new salons for the past two years and found one that I just have to recommend. Imagine walking into a salon where you are provided a menu for drinks and provided a light snack before you even climb into the chair. Service is simply outstanding! Of course, the real draw is the fact that their stylists are great - my haircut, highlights and color are finally exactly what I've been searching for. I especially appreciate the fact that they don't groan when I walk in there and say ""I want something different"", they work with me to figure out what cut or color I may be interested in trying out and again, I have never been disappointed. \r \r I highly recommend this salon - their staff and service are amazing! more

I was in desperate need of a new style and color, but I had to do it quickly. This salon was able to accomadate my schedule on short notice which was great. The atmosphere was great and the staff was definitely friendly and knowlegable. I am really happy with the color and cut. The only 2 caveats I have are that they were really pushy with the product line they support (Eufora) and it took nearly 3.5 hours for everything. I can't really complain about how long it took as the color needed to process and the cut/style were done so nicely, who would rush it? But the issue I have regarding the over-zealous product pushing remains. Pros: serene, great staff, excellent service Cons: too pushy w/products more

A great salon where with creative professionals that make you feel pampered (they give you a latte of your choice with a cookie while you get your hair done). I have gone there with no idea of what I want and they have done amazing things with my hair. They take before/after pictures of dramatic cuts so that if you're searching for an idea, you can look through the pictures of previous clients for insparation. Amazing head massages during wash. All the stylists work as a team and are on salary, so you don't even have to figure out how much to tip, there is none! If for some reason you get a hair cut you don't like you can come back and they will redo it for you within 14 days. Pros: great head massage, creative stylists, spa atmosphere Cons: pricey more
