I used American Chimney for many years without any problem. Last month I called to schedule a fireplace cleaning and inspection as well as a look at a leak we discovered. I called several times during normal working hours but there was never anyone to answer the phone and the voicemail was ALWAYS full. Just as I was about ready to give up I finally got someone and scheduled an appointment. No one showed up! I called to see if I had misunderstood the appointment day or time but no one answered. This time I was able to leave a message, though. Can you believe that no one has called me back? This was weeks ago! I am shocked. You would think with the recession companies would have some level of customer service to retain repeat customers. I have instead contracted with The Fireplace Doctor, my fingers are crossed. Save yourself the time and stress and go with another company. more

ams was at my house a litle over a week ago. i had a few concerns about my chimney, but i did not say anything to them to make sure they would figure it out them selves. well they didnt just find the problems that were going on with my chimney. they also took pictures of it all so i knew it was really a problem and not just a scam. anybody could of said anything about my chimney and i would have to believe them knowing that i was not gonna go up on my roof to inspect. anyways after doing a full inspection, they explained what was going aon and what had to be done to correct the problem. it was two guys that came to my house. they both knew what they were talking about and i could tell that they worked great together just by the way they knew what to do and knew what the other needed. i feel completley at ease knowing that these guys know what they are talking about and will do what is needed to fix my furnace chimney. i am just waiting for my est. in the mail even though i am going with this company hno matter the price!!!! very happy that i didnt listen to some of the stupid reviews that were probably posted by competing companies. american chimney are my guys!!!! more

Had fireplace stove insert installed and chimney repaired by American Chimney in Holland and had issues with stove insert the first season I used it and later on also discovered some concerns about the chimney repair. In the end, the misunderstandings were fully resolved and real issues fixed. They worked hard to make the situation right. Matt, the owner, delivered on his promises.\r more

I have waited a whole month to try to get these people out to install gas logs. I paid half down ($681.15) & then I had to hound them to set up an appointment. They lie to you & are in no way reliable. Today they were to come at 10AM & no show (not the first time). The weather was blamed however it was sunny for the three hours they would have been here. They could esasily have done the job. Methinks that they over-extend and do not have the depth of staff they need to fulfill contracted promises. I would NEVER recommend these people even to collect my trash. I asked for my money back & will go elsewhere. Steer clear of these imposters. more

Technicians arrived at our home in the one hour window we were given. Tarped the entire area in my home so as not to cause a mess. Showed me photos of my chimney while they were at my home so that I knew what to expect in my report when it arrived. Just received it today & it is very professional (concise & clear). It even included photos with detailed descriptions of problems that were found. I felt comfortable with them from beginning to end. Especially when Matt, the owner, took the time to go over the findings with me in COMPLETE detail. I would suggest this company to ANYONE looking for a professional chimney sweep. American Chimney was at my home yesterday & I was greeted by pleasant & very clean technicians. They took the time to check everything out & review concerns with me. In fact, I scheduled 2 cleanings & they told me I only needed one. Imagine my surprise that a service company told me I DIDN'T need something to be done. Talk about honest. I look forward to the report which should arrive at my home in about 1-2 weeks.\r \r I'm so happy this forum is available so that the consumer can utilize it in research. Unfortunately, negative reviews can be read & we really don't know who to believe. It's very difficult as a consumer to find the right service company. If you are looking for a reliable, honest & thorough service company, look no further! \r \r Best of luck & remember you get what you pay for. Sometimes it's worth the extra dollar or two to get the right professionals. I know I did. I'll keep you posted after I get my report. I purchased a wood insert from them and had it installed on 10/01/08 for a total price of 4,049.00. The stove has a 1yr warranty. The stove has a few problems with it that needs to be fixed before the warranty is up. I called the manufactor of the stove and they said i need to go thru the dealer i purchased the stove to get these problems resolved. After 3 phone calls and 2 trips to american chimney they setup a service call for monday between 8-9am. I waited all day and they never showed not even a phone call to resch. This is the way they treat there customers who had faith in them boy was i suprised.\r \r I am writing this review only to help somebody else from making the mistake i did by calling american chimney. There website showes the big white building that is suppose to be there showroom when actually there showroom is 2 small rooms downstairs another co rents the upstairs . I would not let american chimney clean my toilet let alone my chimney. When they come out to clean your chimney for 85.00 they find other things wrong so they can squeeze more money out of you.\r \r SO BEWARE OF AMERICAN CHIMNEY ! Pros: none! Our new fireplace gas insert stopped working. Rather than telling me that they don't fix gas inserts, American Chimney told me that a repairman would come out, weathering permitting, on a certain day. I said we only wanted the insert repaired and that didn't require that they do anything outside. They responded that they ""do the whole job, cleaning the fireplace and chimney"". They called to reschedule when the forecast predicted rain.\r When the man came, he looked at the insert. He then cleaned the fireplace. I asked about going outside, but he said it wasn't necessary. He didn't stay long and couldn't determine what was wrong with the insert. He left, saying that we'd get a report.\r Nearly two weeks later, no report had yet arrived. I called, and the girl said it takes two weeks. I waited until beyond two weeks and called again. This time I was told our file was lost.\r The end of the story is that I was charged $132.50 for the man's visit. American Chimney is about two miles away. To my mind, this was a rip-off. Pros: They ended up referring me to a man who knew how to fix the gas insert. Cons: They couldn't fix my gas insert, and they didn't give me the report they promised. more

We called ACS to inspect and clean our fireplace and furnace chimneys (duel chimneys in same space). They charge $85 for this service which includes a written report and digital photos. In about a week, we got the report, photos and an estimate of $1850 for removing and replacing decayed furnace liner. We waited several weeks, then called the company to do this difficult job. They arrived, tried to get old liner out for a while (same guy who did original inspection), decided it couldn't be done, cleaned out some debris that fell down, and left. \r The temperatures were a little cool and the furnace (1 yr old) had been coming on prior to ACS visit. The day after visit, furnace shut off. No draft. THANKFULLY it's equipped with auto shut off to prevent CO2 build up into house. My family could have gotten sick or died if the furnace kept firing up.\r Fortunately, the weather turned very warm and we didn't need heat. \r We schedule another visit with ACS, this time with owner, for following week.\r Owner shows up, pulls pipe off furnace, takes a look at chimney, burns paper towel to check draft, says we have draft but doesn't know why furnace isn't working. Not their fault even though he understands our concern that furnace was working prior to them messing with chimney and now isn't. Maybe we need to get a power or direct vent (involves jackhammer through concrete wall) and seal off chimney. \r He shows me the furnace info and says see, it says right here, DANGER! check to see if chimney is in good repair before installing. So maybe plumber who installed is at fault. Encourages me to bring civil suit against plumber to recoup cost of installing wrong furnace. Has much experience in court cases, apparently. Gives me names of a few heating guys and beats feet out the door.\r We called another chimney company who fixed the problem in 1/2 a day. \r Conclusion? Underestimated job, so decided it was too much work. Original assessment correct, but not equipped to follow through. Pros: Professional looking inspection report Cons: Another company had to do the job they couldn't. more
