Editorial review from Citysearch 6/28/2012

I come here all every time I have a new dog they are the best trainers in the City all I can say is positive things about them. They teach the dog great manners and they teach us the parents how to teach our dogs to obey. more

Our Puppy 5/24/2012

We are currently going to A-1 with our puppy. The other post is correct in saying we the owners are being trained and then we in turn train our pets. That is Steve's approach and I have found it to be helpful and exactly what we needed. I would not hesitate to recommend these training classes. more

Great Dog Whisper 5/17/2012

I have know Steve for almost 10 years now and we met because I was working as a Veterinary Technician at a local animal hospital. I know him and I know his dogs. I was very happy to finally get a dog of my own to be able to take and train in his class. Steve knows what he is doing and it works as long as you follow through with it at home. You get results in his class and he is very gentle with the animals. I highly recomend everyone with a dog to see Steve. more

BRAV HUND !!! 7/17/2011

This is the real deal. I just completed the 6 week course and I must say I am very happy with the results. We learned the fast track to success, and it works. My dog is happier, more engaging, calmer, and now tries to please me instead of himself. I think my dog will miss the classes, it was fun and challenging. Thank you Steve, from me and my BRAV HUND! more

Not hardly a dog whisperer 4/19/2011

Steve is a total joke, with the personality of a wet dish cloth. He scared the hell out of my dog and it took us a few days to undo the damage he did. Not only did he forget our names 5 minutes after we were introduced and through out the lesson must have asked us at least 2 more times, but he also referred to my female dog as "He" all night after being corrected. The man is full of himself and prides himself on the fact that he can operate his own dog as a robot. He had more stories than Mother Goose. I think his techniques are cruel and would advise anyone to steer clear of him. He also says not to give your dog treats. If you walk into any pet store you will find isles and isles of treats- so someone is giving their dog treats. Stay away from this sicko. more

Old standard method works best! 3/14/2010

After 34 weeks which is approximately 51 hours of in class ?treat/clicker? training plus the home training, practicing the techniques every day for 9 months, my pup is not trained. It didn?t work. I really wanted it to because I believed the bs that this is the ?new and improved more humane? way to train your dog, but it is an emotional hook to get you to keep paying again and again because you attend another class and another and another. The problem is never with the training it is with you and your dog. There never is any guarantee that the methods will work. \r \r My 13 lb. rescued pup is dog aggressive based in fear. I even took a ?reactive? dog class where I was told my dog would probably always be reactive, ?you can?t control the dog only the situation.? By the end of the 6 weeks she was better (not great) with the dogs in class because she was use to them, but let a new dog come in and she exploded. When she did explode, whites of eyes showing?teeth more

The worst experience ever... 12/13/2009

The worst experience ever. Anyone would be better of training the dog without paying this guy. Completely ruined my dog. I was never able to undo the damage. Wish I have never met this guy. He doesn?t know what he is doing. And only people that know nothing about dog training believe that this is the way you train a dog. And all these positive reviews are from Steve?s own doing. more

Our dog soaks up love and instruction - unbelievable!!! 11/20/2009

After the FIRST class I already saw a change in my dog. Shelter dog, no training, pretty nutso...probably the most stubborn, but very smart, of any dogs I've ever seen. I've done the big chain store pet classes, and not only do those dogs end up obese, but they don't listen to you without a treat in your hand. Steve trained me and my husband on how to train her, and gives you tips to work on at home. That was the strangest thing about it, I think - he told us how to do it and actively corrected us when we didn't do something right (or were inconsistent with the dog)...as opposed to just yessing us and telling us what we wanted to hear. It might be "old school," but it's crazy in effectiveness. The stuff he worked on with us stuck with her too, so we didn't have to correct her 3,000 times or bribe her with food. As for abuse - that's just ridiculous. You could tell he loves his animals, and he was snuggly with ours as well. He also encouraged us to be really loving with her, an more

You And Your Dog Need A-1! 10/31/2009

I attended Steve's class a few months ago and because of Steve and his training, we have a well-trained puppy and a happy household. Our puppy (lab-husky mix) is now 92 lbs at just under a year old! If we did not have the skills and techniques that Steve taught us, we could easily have an out of control dog. We continue to discipline, love, train, love and, as a result, enjoy our dog. I can't imagine trying to raise and live with this puppy without Steve's class. Thank you Steve! more

A-1 Total Control Dog Training is Simply the Best 9/12/2009

I first met Steve Nixon, the owner of A-1 Total Control Dog Training, in the spring of 1997. My wife and I had recently adopted a yellow lab mix named Sunny that was abandoned on the streets of Glassboro. Steve didn?t train Sunny; he taught my wife and me how to train Sunny. Even though it was only a five week class, Steve allowed me to continue training with him until I was comfortable with Sunny ? it wasn?t about money with Steve, it was making sure that owner was comfortable with the dog. And I really appreciate that. Sunny was my faithful companion for the next 10 years and because he was so well trained, I could talk him anywhere!\r Recently, my 10 year old daughter and I adopted a German Sheppard named Yogi from a local animal shelter. Again, Yogi was found on the street and no one knew his background. The first think I did was Google Steve Nixon name and found out that he was training in Mantua, a little bit of a ride from Marlton but I knew I wanted my new companion tr more

A-1 Total Control Dog Training is the answer to my prayers 8/27/2009

I am the owner of a 10 month Golden Retriever(my 3rd). He is a beautiful, intelligent & high spirited dog. I vowed when I got this pup that he would be trained and well mannered.I went to the pet store for an 8 week training, bought 80% of the recommended supplies and tried to learn how to juggle a clicker, leash and treat with 2 hands!? There was a slight improvement in behavior, however I ended up with a treat demanding dog. I had to find another trainer and began researching training methods.I wanted control of my dog and not vice versa. I found this site and read the comments about A-1. I asked around town and heard nothing but positive feedback. After 5 weeks I am the owner of a more well behaved pup who is eager to learn and walks like he is in a show ring. With the signal of a hand he will assume the position of the command.Steve Nixon is a phenomenal trainer and generous man who is available to his client's at all times. Steve is a diamond in the rough, for which I will continue more

One of a kind 5/31/2009

I took my "unfriendly" Bishon to Steve Nixon. I've had the dog for 6 yrs. and he liked other dogs, hated people except those he knew very well. By the end of the lesson Steve and the killer Bishon were rolling around the floor together like best friends! This was a "first" for my dog. Since then I can't say enough about Steve and his methods. Steve is one of a kind and has often been (falsely) accused of being mean and cruel to dogs but I'm here to say that that is NOT TRUE. His training is hard but it works. The collar he uses is the only one that ever worked for my dog and gets his attention. If used properly by intelligent dog owners it is the perfect tool, firm but harmless. If I had 100 dogs they would all be trained by Steve and the best advice I can give is: Try it and see, you'll be amazed just as I am!!\r Donna Kerr, Mullica Hill\r P.S. After reading some other reviews I had to edit mine. The dogs who whine or squeal whil being trained anr NOT---I repeat---NOT being hurt more

My second Go around with A1. The other Dog whisperer! 5/11/2009

This is the second time I am using A1 total control, and I am once again a satisfied customer.\r First off, my first Rottie ?Sam? was not a bad dog to begin with she was a pup, and I was looking to have her trained for obedience, and home protection. At the time electric collars had just come out, and that reminds me too much like cattle persuasion, then the drop off you dog and ?WE TRAIN THEM? was a hot item, but that was so impersonal, it is my dog and I want it to obey me and my family.\r So I was driving along rt.168 and saw this guy with a bunch of dogs in the woods doing some training, so I pulled over to investigate, watching his ?Total Control ? of his own happy loveable Dobermans sold me.\r \r Now 15 years latter I?m on my second Rottie , and who did I call Steve @ A1 total control. I \r I have never heard of him steeling dogs if anyone really new the guy then they would know his dog of preference are Dobermans, and only Dobermans. So to the person out there that cl more

LEERY AT FIRST!!! BY DIANE B 3/11/2009

When I first read about this place I was leery of the way of training. Going by what I read was the first mistake. So I acted upon my senses and signed my 4 month old boxer up for training classes with Steve. I have to say it is now 1 month later and my friend is a totally different dog who listens, lays down, sits, and obeys my voice with no problems thanks to Steve. It was alittle rough in the beginning but after a few classes we both started to catch on. I have to say that don't believe everything you read I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND STEVE DIXON to train your dog. Steve I just wanted to say thanks for helping me train my dog. And of course we are all still in training and we are all still a work in progress but I think if we continue to stay with Steve he will get us there. I will be taking my dog back soon to continue our training with Steve. more
