As bad as service gets! 3/9/2011

I have been a contractor for years and Gerry the owner here is either a total space case or just has the worst relationship with suppliers ever. They do have one of the best selections in Brooklyn but getting it may take 6 months or more! I would go there and find what you want but then order it from somewhere else. more

Don't go there! 4/25/2010

Contractor recommended by store Pros: ok selection Cons: expensive, owners/contractors are dishonest more

So far, so good 3/25/2010

We'll see if they deliver as promised. It's too soon to tell, but so far, they've been great. Don't be deceived by their unsophisticated storefront appearance. They have good stuff. Pros: good selection, nice people, neighborhood store more

WHY IS THIS PLACE SUCH A MIXED BAG? 11/11/2009

It is confounding that reviews can vary for this place from 0 to 5 stars. Lately, it seems that the only ones that are raving about A & K, are the people who work there! Probably has something to do with the fact that all the good salespeople don't work there anymore! Pros: Great selection, convenient location Cons: Wouldn't know customer service if it bit them in the ass! more

Astoundingly bad service 10/21/2009

I went to A & K yesterday and received some of the worst service of my life. Apparently, I came at the wrong time beacause both employees were sitting down to lunch and were otherwise occuppied. They sat behind their desks and answered some of my questions while chewing. At one point, I asked, ""Does this tile come in different sizes or finishes?"" and the woman said, ""I don't know which one you're talking about."" WHILE SITTING AT HER DESK CHEWING. At that point, I began asking for the makers of the tile samples so that I could figure out the answers to my questions on my own. Frustrated, I decided to leave. As I was leaving the store, the male employee says to the woman, ""She was asking for the manufacturers so that she could go out and buy it somewhere else. Can you believe people do that?"" The woman replied, ""Yeah, I know what she was doing."" I'm still in shock that a business could operate this way. I wish I could give them ZERO stars because they don't deserve one. Pros: Great selection Cons: Horrible staff more

Unprofessional service, good tile selection 9/19/2009

No samples for clients, unfocused service. I shop in many tile stores in NY and Brooklyn, e.g., Walker Zanger, Complete Tile, Nemo Tile, Artistic Tile, Classic Tile, Ann Sacks....and this store cannot compete in terms of service. Will NOT give them my $75-$100K/year tile orders because they do not have samples and do not have a good trade pricing program. In spite of that, their tile selection is very good. Pros: a lot of interesting tiles in a small store Cons: unprofessional more

Unfriendly to an extreme 5/19/2009

Jerry (I think that is his name) was ok when it was time to purchase -- he spent time with me because he knew a sale was involved. Post-sale (and 1k deposit), he never called to let me know the tiles arrived. They were many weeks late. When I went in to pick up the grout that he promised me, he was rude, impatient and simply awful to deal with. I expect courtesy and helpfulness from most store attendants, especially when I spend 3k on tile. Spend you time and money with nicer people and avoid A & K Tile. Pros: Not bad selection Cons: Where do I start more

Others places do it better 4/24/2009

The vibe is completely off at A&K. The inventory is amazing and I was mesmerized by the choices. We have a complete gut renovation to complete and we were ready to buy tile at their store. However, the service is bizarre. Right away the clerk started making assumptions about our status and our income and whether or not we could afford their tile. The bottom line-I just didn't feel comfortable in that store and didn't like interacting with their clerks. We ended up at Classic Tile--it's far away, but the guys are straight up, prices are good and we enjoyed the free espresso while we shopped. Pros: Good tile selection Cons: Customer service more

Terrible Service , AVOID!!!! 4/20/2009

My wife and I have been in the process of renovating our two family brown stone for the course of a year. I recently went to A&K Tile Studio to inquire about a design problem with a few tiles I purchased. The store clerk was not only rude but dismissive. I then overheard her speaking to Jerry, the other store clerk, about me and the ?consequence? for ?buying expensive tile? and not having the money to get a decent contractor to install the tile. The services I employ to complete my work are my concern. As a person of color, I am more than familiar with someone assuming things about me based on my race and my pocket book. However, I would rather travel to Classic Tile in Bay Ridge to not only get better customer service but a better price on tile. This is for all other homeowners who want quality, understanding and service: AVOID A&K TILE STUDIO. They are simply not worth the aggravation. Pros: Lovely Tiles Cons: Awful Service, Rudeness and Racism more

A&K TILE responds 1/28/2009

After reading some of the negative reviews in City Search about our store, we felt that we had to do more to really have better customer service. We are all trying to do our very best. more

Unreliable in the extreme 3/16/2008

After six full weeks wait for tile (and being charged $1000 deposit on day of order), I finally had to phone to find the whereabouts of my order--only to find out that part of it had been back-ordered and they had forgotten to tell me!! Job must be completed in two weeks, and they have left me out on a limb---NOT RECOMMENDED! Pros: decent selection for the middle of brooklyn Cons: HORRIBLE customer service, unreliable more

Terrible Customer Service 10/26/2007

After spending thousands of dollars on tile I call back to order extra material which I was short of and am confronted by ""Elizabeth."" I just simply wanted to order an extra piece of trim, just to be told that she couldn't place the order and that I had to call back the following day to speak with the person who took my first order. I pleaded with her and said I was in a hurry to get the order in because of the amount of time it takes them to deliver. Well, once again I was told by her (which by the way, she's the store manager) that she was busy with customers and paperwork and did not have the time to take my order. She was very, very rude and I do not wish this experience on anyone. Do not recommend!!! more

Honesty and reliable service 6/8/2007

After shopping around, I fell into A & K Tile by accident one day when visiting a friend in Park Slope. The selection is vast, almost overwhelming. The helpful staff was great in helping me narrow down my selection. I found the perfect counter top and back splash accent! Pros: Great selection and fair pricing. Knowledgeable staff Cons: The showroom was crowded and I had to wait a while more

Steer clear 2/14/2007

Kathy and Gerry were great when I came in to discuss ordering a soapstone countertop for my kitchen reno. Gave me a general price of $95/sq ft; sent me to the stone yard to pick my material; and accepted my $1000 check as a deposit to hold the stone for me. Then I got the estimate - $3200 for a 20 sq ft countertop. And they forgot to include the backsplash. This was much higher than I expected based on the original $95/sq ft price. I decided I had to cancel the job. No problem they said. We'll refund the deposit. Pros: Fantastic selection, friendly service Cons: Poor service if you cancel a job more

Amazing tile store in Brooklyn!!! 1/11/2007

Man, you HAVE to go to this store if you are looking for any kind of tile!! I am a painting contractor and have worked with many, many different tile people in Brooklyn. This place is by far superior!! In fact FANTASTIC!! Talk to any of the people who work there but especially Kathy and the older gentleman (I think his name was Jerry). Really wonderful experience and like I said, I have dealt with lots of different folks in this field over the years. They are honest and well stocked with nice merchandise. Totally a grand experience. Pros: Well stocked, good people, very pro Cons: a little pricy more

Avoid purchasing granite for a small kitchen 5/25/2006

We tried to use A & K tile to outfit our small, urban kitchen with granite countertops. They had come highly reccomended and their location was very convienent. We went to the granite yard that they sent us to and selected a beautiful piece of granite that we were thrilled with. However, on the day that they were supposed to come measure they bailed out of the job stating that it was ""too small"". No apologies! This was an incredibly bad customer service experience and they left us in the lurch - good location and selection, but beware! Pros: selection, location Cons: Lacks customer service more
