I had gone to the Sherman Oaks location before and had their Portobello Mushroom Ravioli--it was delicious! Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the Woodland Hills location. ...

So nice! 11/19/2008

My roomie and I went there for dinner last night, after not having been there in years. They were really nice about here making substitutions to her salad, and the crepe I ordered was AMAZING! Not your typical rolled crepe, but served in a dish. Our server was super nice and personable as well! I will be going back. .. . maybe today. The crepe was that good. \r \r \r We got the recommended soufflee, and while it was good, it was a little lacking of flavor, and over cooked just a touch. The chocolate sauce on the side needed to be better too. Next time I will go with a different dessert. Pros: Great food Cons: protien dishes a tad high for what they are, needs some updatig inside. more

It's the specials 8/8/2008

Open the menu, look at the inside front cover and behold, the specials. At the time of this writing, the specials are changed every two weeks.\r \r La Frite provides a soup special, a meat special and seafood special on a daily basis. I'm the adventurous type and have yet to be disappointed. I especially enjoy trying the soup specials.\r \r Don't forget to check out the blackboard when you walk in to check any other offerings of the day.\r \r So, be a little adventurous and try something.\r \r Basically, my wife and I treat this as our local neighborhood restaurant, and, like any restaurant, it isn't always perfect. Sometimes we can be disappointed (but glad we tried something); sometimes the wait staff seems a bit ""off"", but we work that out; sometimes other customers are annoying with their demands (when are some people going to enjoy a meal as offered by a restaurant without all the loud proclamations about what they can and cannot eat - might as well stay at home and prepare your own food). More often than not, La Frite hits the right spot.\r \r Recommendations (besides the specials): Mixed Green Salad, Crab Bisque, the La Frite burger selections, the ""meg"" pizza, Filet Mignon with Bearnaise, Seafood Quiche, Chocolate souffle. Love the Frites and the dinner rolls. more

Not so good... 6/14/2008

I had gone to the Sherman Oaks location before and had their Portobello Mushroom Ravioli--it was delicious! Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the Woodland Hills location. I ordered the same dish thinking that it would be just a great; however, I think the chef might have poured a whole bottle of salt in my dish. It was unbearably salty. The waiter was nice about it and took it back and recommended I try something else. By then I was ready for something sweet so I tried a strawberry and banana crepe--yeah not good. It was very bitter and soggy--I guess I expected more from a French restaurant. =/ more

Don't ask for more vegetables in place of potatoes! 12/3/2007

I went to La Frite in Woodland Hills with a friend on Saturday night and all was well until we got the bill. My chicken dish was priced at $16.95 on the menu. I had asked the waiter what came with it (Mashed potatoes and vegetables) and I asked if I could just have all vegetables instead of the mashed potatoes and he said sure. So the bill comes and my entree is priced at $18.50 with a ""Add 1 item"" listed. So apparently they charge you extra if you want to change out your potatoes for some extra vegetables. I just find this incredibly outrageous and typical LA form. The waiter was great, and I certainly didn't take it out on him but it would have been nice if he mentioned it would have been an additional cost. Food was good but I probably won't go back.\r \r \r \r Pros: Decent service, decent food Cons: valet parking charge, extra charge for vegetables instead of potatoes more

La Frite is the Best 3/17/2007

Having dined at La Frite in Woodland Hills for the past 5 years I can only say the service and the food are the best. I have never had a bad experience or meal there. Their steaks are tender, the pasta delicious and my personal favorite is the La Frite salad (asparagus spears and blue cheese chunks in balsamic, need I say more). I also looove the hamburger ABC -- a ground steak burger with avocados, bacon and cheddar. Delicious! Oh, and those snobby Woodland Hills types, please stay home, you make it unpleasant for all diners (of course I can say that cause I live there). It's a 10 plus Pros: Awesome food and service Cons: None -- unless you count the snob reviewer who had a problem with his steak -- get a life! more

Unexceptable customer service 2/28/2007

I had a horrible experience at the restaurant. My mother and I each ordered New York steaks with peppercorn sauce. The waitress brought out one steak with peppercorn sauce and the other with bernaise sauce. I explained to the waitress that the order was wrong. She apologized and took the steak back to the chef. No longer than one minute later she returned with a steak with the right sauce. I asked her if it was rinsed off and she said: ""What do you expect us to make a new steak, we don't do that here"" and stormed off. I requested to speak to the manager and exlalined the situation. She went into the kitchen and said:""I spoke to the waitress and chef and they didn't rinse off the steak"" at that point I said I wish to return both orders and said I would pay for the drink I had. She brought back the bill for the steak my mother ordered and the drink. She said: Your mother ate half the steak and we had to pay"" My mother had two bites of the steak. I paid the bill and walked out. This was by far the worse experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I own a hair salon and take pride in customer service. We left the restaurant and went to Flemings Steak House where the atmosphere, service and food was fabulous. Cons: pathetic customer service more

Great date night 2/7/2007

My girlfriend and I have been going to La Frite for awhile now and continue to go back. We have tried most items on the extensive french menu and always seem to try something different (at least she does because I tend to get the La Frite Steak and fries. The fries are so good.)\r I'm not a big dessert person but I can't go without getting the bread pudding. Very tasty.\r The service has been very welcoming every time we have dined there and usually can find a table in the front portion of the restaurant.\r Pros: menu, quality of food, service Cons: busy more

Good food, good service 1/31/2007

Cute french bistro, one of my local favorites. Service is good, depending on when you go and who you get, but management is always welcoming. Best crab bisque in the universe, great french onion soup, good crepes, outstanding bread pudding souffle (served with a vanilla bourbon sauce), amazing desert selection, homemade ice cream and soups, enormous salads, gigantic burgers, and the ratatouille is out of this world! Try the goat cheese ratatouille casserole appetizer! The menu is a little bit pricey, but all in all quite worth it. Outstanding brunch as well served on Saturday and Sunday. I would definitley recommend this place. Pros: Best crab bisque in the universe! Amazing desert selection. Cons: Service depends... more

Friendly and welcoming 12/31/2006

My family and I consider this to be one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. We dine at La Frite offten because we know that the service and the food is allways good. The ""La Frite"" salad, Meg pizza and crab bisque are some of thier regular dishes you can't go wrong with. If your looking for easy and tasty bistro style dinning, look no further! more

always good food 12/3/2006

food is really good, filling, and fresh. the service is definitely lacking and the food is a little pricey. Pros: great food Cons: service could be better, prices could be a little more competitive more

tries to do too much 11/16/2006

La Frite tries to do both Italian and French and ends up doing neither of them well. The crepes are served in dishes, very soupy. The chocolate souffle was bland and the hersey's syrup that came with it didn't make much improvement. Don't think we'll go here again. more

Fantastic!! 7/27/2006

Best crepes ever!!! I make sure everytime I come to the LA area I stop here. I find myself craving the chicken crepes daily. Great desserts also! more

Charming traditional French Bistro 5/3/2006

I have been enjoying this restaurant for 30 years. I have never been disappointed. Traditional bistro food. Delicious crepes, and crispy ""frites."" It is reliable, never trendy. A steady favorite. more
