fabulous beer stinky spot... 1/10/2011

My first time at the WAB. My husband and I met another couple there. I had the Rasberry Blonde...best beer I have ever had...you must try it. We sat upstairs...it was kinda smelly my husband described it as a mix between a frat house and cleaning supplies. So it didnt smell that great ..but the beer was good . I had a chicken avacado dish..very tasty. Though my husband had a burger...not so good..he got sick the next day. Or waitress was a dumbo. she charged our friends bill to us, as well as ours. Over all beer is good..everything else..not so hot. more

Good Spot to Hang Out 4/2/2009

The WAB is an old standby in Ferndale, and with good reason. They have (mostly) good food and a really relaxed, inviting atmosphere, although it can get a little loud and crowded so it's not a place for an intimate chat. The jukebox is a treat, and the quesadillas, salads, and tacos are good. For anything more complex, another restaurant might be a better bet. As far as drinks go, the bartenders (who are also friendly) pour 'em strong, but the beer is sometimes disappointing. It's not bad, just not the ""wow, that's amazing!"" quality you would expect from a small brewery. Overall, definitely recommended. Pros: Nice bartenders, good quesadillas Cons: Beer could be better more

Tasted like garbage 12/31/2008

I don't know why but it tasted like garbage. Almost like someone wiped their butt with it. Anyways I'm FLASH ME on xceedspeed DOT com and I will never eat there again. Beer tasted like urine. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

good beer bad food 11/2/2008

Not the best place to have dinner but I enjoyed there draft beer. The shots that our table ordered were a bit on the higher priced side but all in all alright time Pros: open floor plan, lots of room to move around Cons: food not to good more

Great beer, great setting 8/29/2008

Excellent beers and great grub make this one of my favorite destinations on any given night. Low-key and laid-back, the WAB serves up a smooth raspberry blonde brew and the quesadillas are great, too. Always a comfortable, dim atmosphere; great for catching up with friends. more

Amazing beer and great atmosphere 4/16/2008

The WAB is my favorite bar in the Detroit area. They're beers are great. I suggest the Custom Blonde. There's nothing else like it. Perfect flavor. Really crisp and refreshing. The staff is great and really friendly. The bartender Stevie is really cool. Definitely try to get to know him. And check out his band's album in the juke box. The have a great music selection. The food is really good, too. A wide range of options on the menu from: sandwiches, salads, flat bread pizza, etc. The atmosphere is really cool with all the big windows and the wood floors and booths. I really recommend this place. more

Would appear they bribed the D.D.A. 1/4/2008

On the wwwnopsdtax.c--m website I read quite plainly that those members of the D.D.A. who have given them a large chunk of money will now actually see a decrease in their taxes if the D.D.A. is able to pass the PSD tax.\r What a suprise.\r As a store owner on Woodward nearby, as a long-time Ferndale resident, I'm just appalled that the owner of the Woodward Avenue Brewery would stoop to this level, I am so dispointed in the W.A.B., we ourselves might have to close or shop and we certainly won't have money to frequent W.A.B.\r Shame on you! more

The WAB is what hangout should be like. 9/3/2007

When a gay guy prefers to goto the W.A.B. instead of the local gay hangout then I think that says something about the atmosphere and service at this establishment. I have lived in the area for about 5 yrs now and the W.A.B. is the place I goto when I want a great beer, decent food and a place where I can talk with my buds. The staff rocks and has their finger on the pulse of Detroit. If you're lucky you'll catch one of local bands plucking away in the upstairs bar. Or just people watching out on the patio. I totally recommend the W.A.B. if you want to have a fresh brewed beer with out all the commercialism that is in all of the other bars out there. Hats off to ya!! Pros: Energetic Staff, Great Beer Selection, can easily walk to other bars to chek them out to Cons: Weeekend parking more

Enjoy the summer months in the outdoor seating section! 6/18/2007

Very attentive wait staff on our last visit. Probably visit 10 or so times per year. This place is high on our list now that summer is here--great outdoor seating along Woodward--some of it is covered, the rest is open. Started with drinks and pretzel appetizer. Told waitress we wanted to wait on dinner. Not hurried at all. Ordered chicken and avocado quesadilla and salad to split. Avocado slices in quesadilla were hard--not yet ripe. Told waitress and she happily swapped for another quesadilla--no challenge or resistance to our request. Quite pleased with this visit. Plan to return at least a few more times while the warmer weather is here. Pros: Brewed on location, varied beer list. Cons: Parking is metered in the immediate area more

Good Times at the WAB 2/1/2007

I was shocked to see bad reviews of the WAB. While not a regular, we still go about 8-10 times a year for the past few years and have never had a bad experience. I don't know how someone could hold the restaurant responsible for a long wait. They can't kick people out of their seats. Take a look around. Is there anyone else waiting in front of you? If there are 10-15 tables in front of you at the WAB its going to be a bit of a wait. There are tons of places on Woodward so if takes you 5-10 minutes to work your way in and to the bar you may want to think about going somewhere else.\r \r Also as someone that used to work at restaurants while in college, as did my fiance, we can both sympathize with a ""regular"" that doesn't tip. Most people don't know that waitstaff only makes a couple bucks an hour, plus tips. On top of that, they only keep a portion of the tips as they have to share with other members of the staff. On slow nights you could easily make less than minimum wage and to have someone come in and repeatedly not tip would drive someone crazy. I applaud their staff and management for putting the so called patron in his place. \r \r As for our review of the WAB, its a great place, with great beer and a wonderful staff. Their specials for half off appetizers is a great deal and everyone that we know that has been their once has had the same experiences we have.\r Pros: Great beer and 1/2 off appetizer specials more

Bad service/managment, great food, you choose 1/29/2007

I will assume you are someone who works there or, that is a good friend of one of those rude waitresses, because if you were not, you wouldnt expect people to wait a total of 2 1/2 hours at a resturant to even eat!! Seriously that cannot be exceptable with you, busy or not. Two of the people I frequent there with are waitresses and they get more angry than I do, they know how things should be ran. I see a lot of the staffs friends there every time I go, so are you one of them, probley, this is exactly how they act!! Pros: Great food Cons: Bad service/managment more

EXTREMELY RUDE MANAGEMENT and PERSONNEL 1/15/2007

I sat a few tables away from an older gentleman whom was approached by management about the tips he left for the waitstaff. It seemed as though they recognized him as a regular. The manager went on to explain that he can't have the man coming in and being served without leaving at least a minimum gratuity. I don't have direct quotes from the exchange, however, I noticed that the manager was going a little beyond his duty to be rude to the man. A waitress also discussed the matter with the man. I don't think I will eat at Woodward Avenue Brewery unless I hear that the man was given some sort of an apology. What happened to loyally patronizing a local buiness/restaurant and being served treated with courtesy and respect? I know for a fact this is a very busy bar/restaurant. On sheer volume alone the waitstaff won't miss few dollars from a man who looked like he couldn't afford much more than the 'Half-off your bill night' meal in the first place. You decide... Good food... Poor service. Pros: FOOD Cons: RUDE STAFF more

Great Jukebox, Good Food in Ferndale 8/20/2002

Definitely not your typical bar fare. The food ranges from a variety of cold burritos to above average sandwiches to a WAB appetizer favorite consisting of pretzel rods served in a pint glass with a mixture of homemade mustards (while this doesn't sound very special, you must try it to understand). The food definitely gets an A but the beer is somewhat iffy at times (the vanilla porter is your safest bet). The outdoor portion consists of open air seating downstairs and a handful of tables that wrap around the exterior of the building. Limited but cool. more

Nice WABos 8/8/2002

Great place to hang! Upstairs or down, this is is a favorite! Try the thai wraps - they rock! Great brewed beer - even for the non-connoisseur. Everything here is just cool - right down to the license plate menus! Great place to catch up w/ the old gang! Cons: pay to park more
