I've been getting blonde highlights and my haircut all over this city for the past 6 years, jumping from salon to salon to find the right balance of talent/cost. Usually they do mediocre to good job the first time around, which grows out into something unexpectedly horrible and then they can't make anything good of it come the second time around (and they don't even know it!) And it goes downhill from there. Lush breaks the mold, by far. I have never received the amount of compliments on my hair as I do when I get it done there. I was even getting compliments 12 weeks after I had last been! My highlights lasted an incredible 16 weeks without looking horrendous (I kind of like the dark contrast, but also have naturally light hair). They had to do major damage control of cleaning up a horrible last haircut (too many uneven, short/long contrasting layers in my long hair) and fixing a golden/orange tone job from the previous stylist. They did this and so much more. The blonde was matched perfectly to compliment my skin tone, the haircut is clean and stylish - not messy uneven layers, and they are very competitively priced. Not to mention that they are extremely professional, on time, very intuitive and focused. They always listen to me and seem to know exactly what I am thinking. Not to mention cute and fun! And the salon - Wicked - is beautifully and simply decorated, conveniently located. No pressure to buy product and no attitude whatsoever. Actually, it's a very relaxing environment! You have to give Lush a try; you'll be happy you did. more

Be sure to read the negative review because I 100% agree with the service staff ratings about being rude and putting out poor work. I probably could have gone to a Fantasic Sams and got the same quality of work. I read all the 5 star reviews before scheduling appt at Lush. Boy was I fooled..now after reading them they sound alike, perhaps the owner/staff write good reviews. I was not pleased with the services I recieved and wish good luck to others and if you know any good hair salons in indy please mssg me with your suggestions because I will never go back to Lush, they made my hair look like a wet mop. I first learned about Lush because I live right down the street. I had a stylist for several years and my very close girlfriend cuts/colors hair, however, I thought about trying Lush because of the convenience. I am a VERY picky customer with a head of hair that is not easy to manage.... very thick, long and wavy with color and highlights. When I first went, I was very nervous because I am not the type to switch hairstylists very often. Danita, the owner, was very welcoming, personable and professional. She then referred me to Sasha, the colorist/stylist, and the rest was history. Sasha did a FANTASTIC job on my hair from the get-go. She provided me with an entire color correction, beautiful highlights and a perfect hair cut and blow-dry. The cost was extremely reasonable. I have since gone to this salon weekly for blow-drys and my hair lasts an entire week!! Sasha has maintained my color and cuts ever since. She is very "up" on the trends and provides great advice when I want a change in color or style. MY HAIR HAS NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD! People come up to me constantly asking where I get my hair done. She also does a wonderful makeup job and undo’s. I have gone to them many times when I have had special occasions to attend and my husband is astounded at how I transform when I leave the salon! I also had wonderful eyebrow shaping here.. Lush has been very accommodating to me, my family and my friends! LUSH IS THE BEST HIDDEN SECRET IN INDY!!!! I have lived in here my whole life and have been to many, many fancy salons, and Lush blows them all away!!!! Thank you more

Salon owner was quite rude over the phone but I gave it a shot...was not happy with my service, they charge your credit card whether you like the service or not. Even if you need to cancel your appointment within 24hrs you will get charged for a service. I wish I had that luxury in my office to charge my clients if they need to cancel. This salon is highly overrated and overpriced I will continue to look elsewhere and I suggest you do the same. Pros: None Cons: Expensive and overrated more

Sasha cut my hair and made it look amazing! I have never enjoyed a trip to the salon as much as this one! Everyone was super friendly the moment I walked in the door and so helpful!!!! Sasha asked me what I was thinking in the way of a style and since I didn't have a clue she gave me some suggestions and asked my opinion before she actually cut anything...which is always good :)! I was VERY happy with the outcome and so I have signed her up to do my hair (and make up) for my wedding! YAY!!! So I know that my hair/make up will look absolutely fabulous!!! THANK YOU!!!! I was searching for a new stylist as i just came back from Sarasota, came across this salon and read the reviews and the fine print...where does this salon get off charging full price of service if you miss or late to your appt? I have never heard of such nonsense...if they are as busy as they claim to be I am sure they will have other clients to fill in canceled appts. ... It doesent mater how good a salon is if thier customer service sucks more

A very fake salon, maybe they can cut hair but for the price you could get it cut anywhere better. They definately cannot color well so keep looking if you need some color there is plenty other salons around indy that can do a better job Pros: none Cons: everything more

When I moved from the heart of LA to a little town in Indiana I was terrified about being able to find the right stylist. I am extremely picky about how I like my hair; I need a stylist who is skilled enough in her own vision to create something I would never dream of, but still open to my needs. I researched reviews and saw this place rated highly so decided to try it out. I was amazed! For a fraction of the price I received a truly professional hair cut. I am a perfectionist, but they were patient in assuring every part of my hair was exactly the way I wanted it before leaving.They did a great job of creating a new style and helping me change my look, while still listening carefully to me to be sure I was satisfied. I am so relieved to have found such an amazing salon! Try it, you will not regret it more

It was pretty annoying signing up for citysearch just to write a review, but this place was WORTH IT! I usually visit a top end salon in Chicago, but needed a haircut BAD and wasn't sure where to go. I saw all the great reviews about this place, and they were right! I travel around the world year round and this place was the best I've been to in a LONG time. They have cutting edge style, which is what I wanted, since I too often wind up looking like a "suburbia soccer mom" with many salons. They did exactly what I wanted and made it better; I've never been happier with a cut! And the PRICE! BEST in town for such skill. I will definitely go back there whenever I'm in town and would suggest anyone looking for a great salon with people who know what they are doing, to try these ladies out. I had to get my hair fixed at DL Lowry for the work I had done at Lush. My stylist was very nice but when I had my hair pulled back you could see my roots 3 days after I had it done. I called but never heard back. The manager would not fix the mistake. Glad to know I just threw my money away there when I just had to get it redone. It is a rip off. I recommend DL Lowry, it is on 86th too just down a little past the Fashion Mall near the Target. I had a great stylist. He said that since the color and highlights were done the same time that it bleed and didn't fully process and I had alot of red in my hair because of it. He said that he could see that Lush had not gone all the way to the roots and had skipped sections. While my new/corrected highlights were getting processed I had a complimentary massage as well. I have told all my friends about my experience at Lush and they said they had the same problem with leaving messages and not getting called back. So if you want to go to a great salon on the Northside I recommend DL Lowry!!! Lush is overpriced and horrible customer service! Pros: They have coffee Cons: Unwilling to fix mistakes more

I cannot recommend Lush highly enough. I came into Indianapolis on business and had numerous options for hair and makeup in the city. However, many of the places came with an attitude, poor customer service, and ridiculously high prices. I'm from the NorthEast, so I am used to high prices, but I also want excellent quality without a pretentious demeanor. Danita (the owner) is extremely skilled as a makeup artist and Sasha (one of the stylists) did a wonderful job with a blow-out for my (very long) hair. Allie spent a good deal of time on the phone with me prior to my visit politely and accurately answering my numerous questions. The staff were all welcoming and personable, and quite attentive. Parking is ample and the location is convenient to the area (where I was staying). I am extremely particular and highly recommend this salon. I do not do that lightly but I want out-of-towners especially to know that this place is definitely the best option around. Pros: Skills of staff, friendly and welcoming more

First, I must admit I AM "that" customer that most salons fake a smile to see because I have learned to express dissatisfaction after paying $200 for coloring/cuts that stylists pretended to like on me-but that my family and friends had to tell me looked AWFUL!! After years of leaving salons (from New York to LA) unhappy with the results, I began to believe that what I had been asking stylists to do REALLY was impossible. Sadly, I have also become used to people who find the easiest, cheapest, fastest way to make a buck with no regard for taking pride in the work they do. Luckily, I remained unsatisfied with all the pricey color "experiments" I paid top dollar for in the past and brought my search here--where I read all the + reviews @ THIS PLACE and took a chance! After living all over the US, having my hair done in MANY (an understatement at best) high priced, top rated salons AND paying over $300/visit I can confidently say this was by far the BEST salon I have encountered bar none! From making the appointment (SUPER friendly receptionist, great attitude and answered ALL of my many? s) to my stylist aka HAIR GENIUS!! Danita (I see why see was voted best Indy hair stylist this month in Indianapolis Monthly magazine!!) who took her time, listened to what I was aiming for and literally accomplished a feat I previously thought impossible!! My hair is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!, and despite this being my FIRST visit she got it 210% RIGHT! Gone are my days of debating returning to salons for "color corrections"! I HIGHLY (and without reservation) recommend this salon. I am thankful for all the HONEST reviewers who led me to this gem! I wish I had researched earlier and saved myself from the absolute salon horrors I have experienced at other Indy/Carmel spa/salons. I had NO idea my hair COULD look this fabulous! It is very important to me to relax while I have my hair done it is a personal getaway. I noticed that as a guest from the moment I walked in. Most of the clientele there are interested in three specific services, hair color, hair extensions and hair replacement. I must say that I also loved my haircut, now I can manage my hair myself! But I like to go back for blow-outs because this salon offers all of the pampering luxuries that even the most spoiled diva would enjoy. But the difference here is that the laid back, very friendly staff makes everyone fell like they have stepped onto pedestals for the day. There are three different ranks of hair stylists. In my opinion I cannot classify the difference between them, they all are gentle and high skilled. Danita knows how to train them. They are superb in everything they do. This really is an oasis in Indianapolis; Congratulations Danita and being voted the top hair salon in Indiana by Elle Magazine! Really the best hair colorist and hair extensions around! more

I feel really guilty that I haven't gotten my act together to get this review posted sooner, because Danita White isn’t just an amazing professional hair stylist and colorist, she’s also proven to be a good friend to all those who are lucky enough to experience her at Lush The Art of Hair. I found her through CitySearch a couple of years ago and even now that I’ve relocated to Chicago, I won’t ever let anyone else touch my hair – Danita’s that brilliant, especially for dishwater blondes like me! If you haven't already heard through the grapevine, Lush does THE BEST work creating multi-dimensional, long-lasting and natural-looking blonde highlights in all Indy. (I think she works privately with a roster of celebrities, but she’s pretty cagey about that.) In the decade I’ve been in Indiana, I’ve tried out pretty much every big-name hair stylist imaginable searching to recreate the healthy, natural-looking blonde of my youth from the bleach-out, sun/salt/chlorine damaged locks my active lifestyle created. I’ve tried pretty much every major salon but, I never returned to the same place twice because I never got personal attention, I always paid way too much, and I always left with the same, generic blonde “Do” you seem to see on every soccer mom and street corner. So, to say I was a little disillusioned by the time I read Danita's reviews on CitySearch and made an appointment is an understatement. But, I was SO pleasantly surprised. First, she spends A LOT of time with each of her clients. I think my appointments tend run about 2 hours with no overlap in appointments and no extra fee for the time (as I’ve experienced elsewhere). She’s never once been late or kept me waiting, or taken calls during our appointments, and I’ve never ever felt rushed. She also never ever tries to sell you product, which is a rare treat these days! Second, she is a color specialist. At your first appointment, she'll do an assessment of the quality of your hair and what sort of cut/color you’re looking for and will offer you advice about how to make that work with the shape of your face/features and your individual coloring/complexion. (She actually takes notes, too!) Then, she'll offer you advice about what color or combination of colors will work best with your unique skin and eye coloration. (She typically weaves in 2-3 different color highlights into my hair, alternating every other appointment between highlights and lowlights.) The result, for me, is that my hair looks healthier than it has in years (despite the damage I inflict upon it!), and I finally have my youthful blonde back. Danita’s done such a tremendous job masking my dishwater blonde/brown locks that I keep receiving compliments on the cut/color – even weeks after my appointments when I think the roots are starting to show. In fact, she does SUCH a tremendous job with my color and cut, that I don’t even really have to come in to see her for touch ups that often – maybe once every 2 months, since the highlights grow out so naturally. (That’s bad for her, but good for my pocketbook!) Lastly, she is just a really decent human being and a whole lot of fun to talk to during the appointments. You can tell that she has good relationships with everybody at Lush. Also, unlike a lot of hair stylists out there (and again, I think I’ve seen a lot of the best Indy has to offer!), she seems to really take pride in his profession and in getting to know her clients and helping them be their best selves. She and the entire team at have created such a welcoming, “family” environment, that I look forward to the commute there and won't be seeing anyone else anytime soon. Thank you, Danita! My visit recently was to see Danita, who not only is the owner, but also a stylist. It took me a bit to get in with her because she is booked months out. However, from me leaving my number with the receptionist to call if there was an opening, I was able to get in sooner. From my initial consultation on my hair and what I wanted, yes she actually talked with me before she even touched my hair, I could see why she was so busy. Very professional and not hesitant to let me know what my hair needed to be and stay healthy. She didn't try to over sell me product that I didn't need. Of the product that I did end up purchasing, the use and direction of how and when to use it was explained in detail. I was informed that if I had any questions after I left, to just call. That's reassuring to know that once I leave, I’m still welcome to call with questions or any concerns. This was told to me not only from Danita, but the receptionist as well. As I was waiting for my hair to process, I noticed how everyone worked as a team and was very kind to me while I waited. More than one person asked how I was doing. There were no attitudes and I felt very welcome as the salon has a warm comfortable feeling to it. I overheard some of the stylists talking about how they were going to some color/cutting classes. I inquired with one of them how often they get continuing education and they replied that Danita is very persistent about them as a whole, staying update to new product and techniques in color and cutting design. It's refreshing to know of the skill, but more than that, to hear the stylists in the salon talk positive about their employer. I don't know how many times I hear negative things about one's employer and how they don't care for their employees. This made me more aware of how things operated in the salon. There was a light, cheerful atmosphere that you could sense. It was nice and made me feel more comfortable with my visit. I would highly recommend this salon, and any of their stylists, to anyone looking for a professional color or cut in the Indianapolis area. Although I've heard of people coming from Illinois and Ohio. Wow! I must say that at the end of my visit I was informed that it would be a while to re-schedule with Danita, again as she is very popular. I can see why after my visit, but what really got my attention in a good way, was that she told me to try and get in sooner with another stylist. Imagine that, a stylist that had my well being as a priority, not her client list, bookings. This salon, staff, and owner has opened my eyes up to the way a salon should be ran. I often tell people about my experience and know the phone number by heart 842-lush. That speaks in volume of what kind of place this is. You can be assured that if you ever have a problem it will be approached in a professional manner. I highly recommend Lush art of hair. Top notch! more

I'm new in town... and happened upon this great hair salon thru Google... (It’s 4 blocks from my house!) This place is comfortable, friendly & affordable.... ...but the most amazing thing is that after moving from a place where I went from hair stylist to hair stylist... searching for one that I could trust... one that would "get" me... on my first try here in Indiana, I found Danita and Lush! I'm now a regular... and for me, that is saying a lot... more

I also went to this salon to get hair extensions but i was pulled in by the good reviews of this place. I got my color done first, which was really great and done by lexy ( she did a great job). The second day i went to get my extensions, it started out great but then turned out bad after i had to sit for eight hours which was only supposed to be 4 maybe 6 at the longest. What was worse as well is that my family was to pick me up based on the time they told me and Danita had no consideration for that as well as she was rude to my oldest daughter as well as my boyfriend. Also by that time she had pulled my hair soooo much that by that time by scalp was soooo sore that towards the end she asked me if she wanted me to have her stop and acted like i was the bad person because she was hurting me. She on top of that wanted me to sit an additional two hours and said to me that "well you had more hair than what we thought and we aren't charging you for the excess hair" like that was my fault as well. They also did not advise me on how to take care of it and didn't show me any products like they told me they would. I would please recommend that no one go there unless you want to be totally ripped off and you enjoy rude people. I will be taking my business somewhere else and if anyone can recommend any good hair extension place, please let me know... more

The worse hair saloon ever..I went there to highlight my hair, but she made me my hair awful. When I called him she told it is your problem. She is very IMPOLITE. Do not waste your money and time. I payed 200$, but I just wasted my money. more

I went to this salon with my hopes high, since they had such great reviews. I have to tell you the reviews were good, but nowhere near as good as my experience at this salon! They started my session with a consultation on what I wanted and what I was looking at for the future of my hair. Then showed me a couple realistic ways to style my hair-which no one has ever done. I then got the most amazing shampoo ever. Then commenced the cut that is the most amazing cut I have ever had in my life! I was basically speechless when they finished, my hair looked great. She continued the education throughout the cut and explained to me what she was doing and the benefits of her doing it. This salon is amazing! I will for sure being going back-CUSTOMER for LIFE! The entire staff at this salon is extremely professional! I love it! Pros: Absolutely amazing experience Cons: None more
