Editorial review from Citysearch 9/20/2013

We had a great doctor but the fact that our doctor joined Westmed means that we will be searching for a new one. I have NEVER had a good experience with this group from their urgent care (really!) to all else. The nurses and administrative staff are so arrogant, not to mention that there is no longer attention given to the patient -- just another number to them or should I say, more dollars for them.\r \r The only good experience I have had lately with this group is actually their Client Relations person, Kevin Keiser. Now, he is excellent. And I mean that. Unfortunately, when you end up going to him, it's usually because you are at your wits end with the arrogance and attitude of others who work there. I went to him as a result of some questionable ways of working at the office. He will certainly go out of his way to rectify the situation and is so pleasant. West Med got one thing right at least. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/19/2013

Last year I visited the doctors office located at 700 White Plains Rd. There I saw Dr. Maria Abbattista. All my results were fine and everything was fine. Although everything was fine I commented her that my Fallopian tubes were blocked. I also told her that I would like to have that resolved becuase I would like to have babies in the future. The doctor said that I had to visit a fertility specialist and they would be able to help me. \r \r This year I visited a specialist for fertility and found out I could have surgery to unblock tubes before I do the fertility to see if it works, he also said to talk to my gynecology that she could refer do the surgery or refer me to a surgeon. Then I called asked the question if my doctor took care of that and the nurse said she didn't, that she had to refer me to an specialist. They gave me a few times number for specialist that only took care of fertility that the surgery. So I called my Dr. again never spoke to her only to the nurse and she said Dr. Maria Abbattista didn't take care of that. \r \r The nurse was very rude and at this time I am very disappointed with Dr. Maria Abbattista and also with her staff.\r \r Rosanna H more

Poor Service/There are other choices in NY Metro 2/6/2012

I called this group to try and schedule a visit with their OBGYN group, I was told that I couldn't even make an appointment with them because I had a $70 balance from over 7 years ago. I asked them for what the balance was from and whether or not they could give me a copy of the bill and they told me no that it would take a while since the invoice was archived. In the meantime I couldn't wait I needed to find a doctor since this was my first baby and I was 40. I thought it was terrible to deny a woman medical treatment over $70 and then they couldn't even explain what the balance was for. In the end I went to Mt. Sinai and had my baby in the city, and had a wonderful experience. In my research I found Greenwich hospital, Mt. Kisco and Mt. Sinai to have great reviews as well as other OBGYN's associated with those hospitals. There are choices, Westmed is arrogant, thinking they can deny you a medical visit unless you pay upfront to even book an appt. Couldn't they book the appt and then ask you for payment before you see the doctor? Over that $70 the doctors in the group lost more than that because my insurance paid out much more, and now I am going to pediatrics as well outside of that group I will never go there to any doctors associated with that group. more

WestMed Urgen Care/White Plains NY 10/13/2010

I have had to utilize the WestMed Medical Group's Urgent Care Center (in White Plains) 3 times over the last 18 months or so and each experience has been excellent. The doctors, especially Dr. Jason Shuker as well as Dr. Ellen Reinheimer have been thorough, patient, and understanding. The reception staff and the nursing staff have all been caring and very professional. I saw Dr. Shuker the last time I was there after a very difficult nasal surgery and his compassion and consideration were above and beyond. At the time that I saw Dr. Reinheimer, I was very impressed with her thoroughness and concern. I do firmly believe this is a place where you will always receive truly good care.\r more

Not That Good 7/13/2010

OK just a note about their ""state of the art"" computer system. Recently, I hurt myself and went to the urgent care center. I was upset and did not remember if I had gotten a shot they asked about. I told the nurse I come to WestMed all the time and to look it up and see if I had gotten the shot. She said no and gave me the shot. Later I got home (and was calmed down) and thought about it - and realized I HAD gotten the shot - there, last year! \r \r Another dr in another dept found a problem and said this problem is usually caught earlier if you come for annual check-ups. I asked him what he was talking about - I was there last year for a physical and saw him!! I had also been there the 2 prior years and had seen another physician. He scrolled down on the screen and was like ""oh yeah"".\r \r I agree, this is the problem with medicine today. I thought going there and seeing all their specialists and having everything on the computer would be a benefit. But it hasn't been. \r \r Also, I agree - it's something weird with the billing. It's like they send my insurance company the bill. They get their reimbursement and it's not enough money so they find some ""missing"" procedures and submit the claim. \r \r And I agree - the lab leaves much to be desired. I don't understand why the medical assistant or nurse can't draw blood. \r \r The place is like an assembly line and it's sad b/c they are a HUGE network of doctors and seem to have a monopoly on all specialities! Pros: convenient if you live in westchester Cons: not very customer centric - assembly line medicine more

Great asset 4/25/2010

Westmed is a great asset to Rye. Our community sorely needed a good group of local doctors and they don't disappoint. I recommend my docs to all of my friends! Pros: Excellent MDs, Coordinated care, convienent Cons: wish urgent care was open later more

WESTMED 3/8/2010

I rely on Westmed for all my medical needs, and I have been completely satisfied with all of the physicians who have treated me for over a decade. I have total confidence in my internist, and when he recommends a test, I know I will be seeing another Westmed professional in the same building who is up-to-date on my situation. \r \r I love the fact that I can see a specialist in any field if the need arises. Although I am healthy person, I have needed the immediate attention of an orthopedist and a dermatologist, and in each situation, I was able to turn to Westmed for prompt and thorough attention. Because I have glaucoma and arthritis, I see my opthamologist and podiatrist regularly. Each of my doctors is a dedicated professional who provides expert care, and answers all of my questions to my satisfaction. \r \r I recommend Westmed enthusiastically. \r Pros: Excellent doctors who inspire confidence more

WestMed 2/12/2010

I have been a patient of WestMed for years, using multiple physicians in the service. I have found all of them to be extremely caring, knowledgeable and very responsive in a timely manner. I am extremely happy with the services I have utilized. I am also very pleased and excited with the new online service especially being able to correspond with my physician and have an Rx filled without having to make a call. \r \r I also just love the look of the new online service. Kudos to WestMed! Pros: Excellent service more

Very efficient, state-of-the-art practice 2/11/2010

I was suffering from back pain and decided to make an appointment with a specialist at WestMed. I got in right away, was treated in a professional manner. Got the needed x-rays right in the same facility. Was impressed that all patient records are computerized. Very efficient, everyone has the needed information at their fingertips. Follow up visit equally pleasant, will also go for some physical therapy, which is at the same location. Pros: Nice comprehensive, attractive facility, good docs more

terrible rate -1 12/22/2009

I would like to echo what others have said. From the start I was not treated as a valued person. I felt as though I was an imposition. My recent obgyn physical was a joke. For the breast exam I didn't even have to disrobe. It took 5 minutes. I had to ask those questions that should have been covered. I am calling my health care provider. They shouldn't be paid, really. Also my mom and I went to to a dermatologist there. No better. I am suspect of their billing as well. With two very good plans I still had to pay a large out of pocket. This has never happened elsewhere. I am obtaining my records and moving on on to physicians that take the Hippocratic Oath seriously. I hope this helps others looking for quality care. Cons: leaves a lot to be desired more

Lack of Treatment for Clients 12/16/2009

No call backs, lack of regard for patients, you are treated as cattle and there is no follow up, cannot get easily through to the doctor, this is a large organization that is poorly organized. The receptionists and others have attitudes and lack of regard or concern. Be prepared to also fight for a parking space outside the building. Pros: The ability to get blood work right on premise Cons: Too large an organization without organization more

A symptom of what's wrong with health care today 12/4/2009

I recently saw a Westchester Medical Group doctor for a routine physical. My experience was very disappointing from the start. The on-site lab not only lost my urine sample, they also lost my blood sample. However, I didn't find out about this until two weeks after my physical, during which time I made four phone calls to my doctor's office to find out my test results -- only one of my calls was returned. When I finally spoke to my doctor, she told me I would have to have my blood test repeated. I didn't really blame her for this. But then today I received the benefits explanation of my visit from my insurance company and was surprised to see that my doctor billed me for an EKG...but I didn't receive an EKG, nor was one even discussed during my 10-minute physical! (I am young, physically fit, and do not have a heart condition, so I would have been very surprised if my doctor had asked me to get an EKG.) When I called the WestMed billing department, they said that they clearly saw an order for an EKG in my records, so I must be wrong, and did I even understand what an EKG was, etc. etc.. I insisted that I did not receive an EKG, and I was told that they would submit an inquiry to my doctor to see what she had to say about it. This kind of billing practice, whether perpetrated by my doctor or by the billing department, is quite possibly fraudulent! I will not return to WestMed and will instead look elsewhere for future care. Pros: Many doctors to choose from Cons: Unresponsive, unaccountable, possibly fraudulent billing more

HIGH HANDED AND UNRESPONSIVE 7/27/2009

I WAS A LONG TIME PATIENT. THEY ARE WONDERFUL AS LONG AS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOU. WHEN I HAD A RELATIVELY MINOR HEALTH ISSUE, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A CALL BACK OR ACTION OF ANY KIND. I MOVED TO A DIFFERENT GROUP AND AM TREATED LIKE A VALUED PATIENT. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE WESTCHESTER MEDICAL GROUP, TRY NOT TO INCONVENIENCE THEM WITH REQUESTS FOR CARE. THEY TREATED ME VERY POORLY. Cons: NON EXISTENT PATIENT SERVICE more

business office 6/19/2009

My son was treated at the Westchester Medical Group. The treatment itself was fine, the problem is with its billing office. A mistake was made in 2007 when they filed with my insurance. Since then I have been yelled at, patronized and today hung up on while trying to fix the problem. I am sure that there are many good Doctors in White Plains so I would advise going to an institution with a professional business office. This has been a nightmare. more
