Ready for a rip off? 7/12/2007

Worst veterinary clinic ever. I brought my kitten in because she was not able to keep food down. Keeping her overnight on IV fluids the bill the following day was about a grand. The thing was, nothing had been accomplished because in order to perform more tests and as they put it ""a possible operation"" it would cost an additional three grand. They then gave me the option to relinquish my kitten ie give up my rights to her so that someone from the hospital could adopt her and take over financial responsibility. They made her situation seem so dire and said ""it was the best choice for ___"". When I arrived the next day to say goodbye to her, a woman mouthed the words to the receptionist ""Make sure they pay first"". Once paying the ungodly amount, I was moved to a room in which they brought my kitten. She had returned to her normal frisky self. When I chose not to relinquish her and take her home so that I could continue my search to find another veterinarian the tech came in, not the doctor, with medicine for worms and gave me instructions on how to administer them. I was in shock. Worms? No one had even mentioned worms. Now she is home and perfectly fine. If you're seeking a 24/hr vet in the area DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go to this hospital. I reccomend ACCESS in Lake City so much more. Pros: It's open 24 hours Cons: It seems the absurdity of the healthcare system in this country has spilled into veterinary medicine more

I would never go here in an emergency 7/4/2007

Their treatment is real hit and miss depending on which Dr you get. One emergency vet sent our dog home in MUCH WORSE condition than when we came in, joked about causing our dog pain, and refused to consult with a specialist when she didn?t know what she was doing.\r We had a terminally ill dog and were referred for treatment. The internist seemed to have a good knowledge level, but wanted a new ultrasound, not interested in seeing a recent ultrasound from another vet. She said she wasn?t skilled enough to do an ultrasound, but several days later decided to do it herself one day before it was scheduled with the expert.\r Our first urgent visit, in the evening, we saw an emergency Dr who was caring and discussed the condition and pros and cons of a procedure. She did an ultrasound but decided not to do the procedure as it would cause more harm than good and didn?t charge for the ultrasound. We left feeling good about the visit and remained so after checking things out with our more

I was very impressed 6/19/2007

I had two 15 year old cats that had to be put down within a few months of \r each other at the vet specialty center. The first had some specialized testing ll done by an internal medicine specialist there and I felt he was very compassionate and caring toward me and my cat, my cat was diagnosed with cancer and it was a second opinion and ultrasound, etc, because of course I wanted to be sure before I decided to let him go. It was expensive because of the ultrasound etc but it was worth it for me to be sure. They were up front about the costs and explained my alternatives in detail. My second cat had kidney failure for a long time and they were very compassionate when I had to let him go also. My advice to cat owners would be that cats hide signs of illness or injury very well until the bitter end. more

Worst Vet Experience-Ever 11/25/2006

The girl at the front desk was rude and surly;\r My cat seemed mildly ill, the doctor looked at him for 5 minutes, no tests, and said my cat had kidney failure and if he lived would need a lifetime of treatment. She handed me a statement for several thousand dollars. I told her I had just been laid off and she left the room for a few minutes. She came back and said my cat had anemia and gave me an estimate for much less. She told me I could make a deposit and pay the rest on Saturday. When I went up front, the girl at the front yelled at me and told me they needed the whole amount that night. I began to cry so they took me into a room and told me that if I couldn't come up with the money for their services that night, a cost effective method would be to have my cat put to sleep. There was more, but it only gets worse. The ethics of this place is shoddy and it is very clear they are only interested in money. more

good service 11/22/2005

had my kitten spayed here a while ago, the other review with bad experience worries me though. I had no problems, and they seemed very friendly and had no issues. Reasonalby priced too. Small parking lot, easy to get to. more

Questionable Experience/Possible Coverup/Obvious Incompedence 9/14/2005

We brought our cat Tigger to them at 9:00pm after he was hit by a car and suffered a broken jaw. We were told that we could pick him up in two days after they repaired the brake. At 3:00am the next morning they called saying the surgery was over but Tigger was now in a coma and on life support. They advised my stunned wife that the best thing to do was to have them put him to sleep. She reluctantly followed their advise. I emailed the director who said he would look into it. We asked for an explanation which we have been waiting over a month for. Timothy Newton now has his email access blocked. I feel they did not wait long enough for Tigger to stablize then overdosed him on the laundry list of medications that showed up on the bill. The doctor who performed the surgery said it was just one of those things and that my assessment could be correct. She was off by several hours in her assessment of the time they waited to stabalize him. They returned our cat to us f more
