This place is plate licking good 8/20/2009

We have eaten at the Veranda several times and it has been great every time but once then it was good and still better than a lot of places. We took a friend for the first time she had the King George Fillet, not only was it cooked to perfection but I honestly thought she was going to pick the plate up and lick it, she confessed she would have if we weren't looking. We recently had my fathers 88th birthday there and the staff could not have been nicer. Dad received special treatment as well as special food that was not on the menu and the price was comprable to the other prices which for portion and flavor of meal is really resonable, almost low. Would I recommend The Veranda - oh yes, and I do all the time. Pros: good food, friendly staff Cons: it's North - I live South more

NOT GOOD 11/2/2008

This place was not good. When we arrived the waitress asked if we were there to eat. (Why else would we have been there?) My ""migas"" were undercooked (still runny). My brother said the bacon ""tasted like balloons."" The lemonade tasted like handsoap. There were hairs in the breakfast tacos. The ""French Toast"" was really just toast with syrup. The food was overpriced. The waitstaff was not friendly. I would not recommend it! Pros: Ambience is ok Cons: everything else more

Patching Things Up With Young Staff 9/17/2008

I had a chance to eat at the veranda recently, something i have been dreading since the last time i went there when i had an undercooked chicken breast on my salad. The seating was quick and prompt the servers were very kind...and to my surprise, the food was perfect. This caught me completely off guard, The Tilapia Florentine was light and flakey with a perfect sauce over the top of it. All of its components were, For the first time since id been there, cooked delicately and to perfection. I asked My waiter to meet the chef who prepared my meal and to my surprise, it was a young TCA student named Jason Hinojosa. After talking to some colleaguesof mine from the Le Cordon Bleu School I came to learn just how young he was. At just 17 that young man has turned the kitchen from bar food to delicate plates with passion behind them, I recommend this restaraunt if not for the food then a chance to experience the cooking of an up and coming chef. Pros: New Chefs, new waitstaff Cons: Seemed to be alot of confusion between waitstaff and management more

expensive microwaved fajitas?! 8/3/2008

I just got back from eating at The Veranda, and the food was simply awful. Pros: immediate seating, as the place was practically empty Cons: food overpriced and microwaved more

Sysco foods??? 12/17/2007

Wow, what a let down. I've driven by this place several times and was curious. I checked out the website, seemed like a place worth trying. Now, I regret it. We had a party of 13 for our business Christmas dinner at Veranda. What a mistake. Now I feel bad and I feel like I let my employees down, sigh. The heater ""was on the fritz"" according to our server. It was FREEZING!!! We had 2 servers, one seemed VERY confused. If he was ""new"" that's fine, but he never introduced himself, so we weren't sure! All the food looks THE SAME- quality is LACKING for the price. Seems like SYSCO frozen/pre-prepared foods to me, which is sad. They were out of spinach, no desert of the day, they were out of lady fingers... all advertised on the menu. Food was COLD, but maybe it's because we all had to dine with our coats on because it was FREEZING! The restroom door had a sign reading ""our pipes are bad"", we ordered a banana split that came with an over-ripe, semi-rotten banana. Just a let down all together. Maybe they are waiting to be on Kitchen Nightmares??? ALSO- what is the sense of being a CitySearch Member if the owner/manager doesn't respond to customers negative comments??? They should try to make up for what is lacking, I read some other bad comments, but I guess they don't want to try to make an effort to show they can do better? Pros: Potential, if they try a bit harder and maybe simplify the menu (and get fresh ingredients) Cons: Not worth the money, heater not working, service poor, quality poor more

Needs new management 11/20/2007

My daughters and I went to this restaurant on Friday night. The food was passable, the waiter, a young man seemed inexperienced. He had to keep referring our questions to an older man who we wondered if he was the manager. My daughter ordered a sandwich and when she said there was no spread on the bread, that the menu said there should be honey mustard, young man referred to older who rudely huffed over to us to point out something on the menu. I was so shocked that I am not sure what was on the menu. The younger waiter brought her some honey mustard salad dressing. My food was passable. One of my daughter said her crab tasted canned. When we got the bill I noticed that the price of the wine was higher on the bill than on the wine list. I pointed this out to the waiter. He referred to the older man who said the price has gone up and the wine list hasn't been corrected, there was no offer to change the bill. I noticed that for a Friday night there were not many people at the restaurant. No wonder, I would not go back. Pros: no problem getting seated as restaurant was pretty empty for Friday night Cons: poor management, barely passable food more

Excellent service, good location and ambiance, careless food prep 4/4/2007

My husband and I tried the Veranda for lunch yesterday. The space was casual, pleasant, quiet. Our server was gracious and attentive beyond the call of duty. Being a hot tea drinker, I appreciated the variety of teas available. The menu had an interesting selection of sandwiches, salads, and lunch items. The actual food preparation unfortunately did not exhibit the same care or attention to detail as the menu, the concept, and the service. We started out with the baba ganoush, which was fresh and tasty, though it was not well enough chopped up and thus awkward to eat. I had the New Orleans Crawfish salad, which was very good except for a few chunks of brown, spoiled avodaco, yuk. My husband was put off by some chunks of undercooked chicken in his salad. Carelessness in the kitchen keeps this place from being what it seems to aspire to. Pros: Good service, nice location, easy parking, not crowded at lunch Cons: Careless food prep more

Save money and taste buds - go elsewhere. 2/15/2007

I made the mistake of picking the Veranda for Valentine's Day; the reservation was made just one night in advance, when everyone else was booked solid. Either because of its relative obscurity (the place was fairly new at the time of this writing) or an established bad rep, but availability was not an issue. Pros: convenience Cons: tasteless food, Northcross Mall surrounding more
