Best Vet in Orlando! 9/21/2010

This post is the unbiased truth from a person who went to University animal hospital in an emergency. Me and my girlfriend recently bought an English Bulldog puppy and quickly fell in love. The breeder we bought him from was shady and lied about the vaccinations he had recieved. Us being new dog owners irresponsibly did not bring him in for an immediate check up. About a month after having him, he began having seizures and was in tremendous pain. After first going to Banfield hospital in Oviedo and being charged almost 700 dollars for a misdiagnosis. With our dogs condition deteriorating we were recomended to University. Here we met their wonderful staff and Dr. Carasi. He told us our dog was not likely to live but rather than put him down he always prefers to give him a chance to live. So we did after about 3 days of Brutis fighting for his life we brought him back in to Dr. Carasi in much better condition. Dr. Carasi was thrilled and just the look on his face made me know how much he more

Great Veterinarians! 7/15/2009

We've brought our dogs to University Animal Hospital since they were 8 wks old. Our pups are now 12 and 14 years old. They've had excellent care. The office is always clean, well run, and the staff are friendly and efficient. We board our dogs there when we go on vacations and they are well-cared for. Thanks Dr. Kurasi and Dr. Blake! more

Five years of considerate pet care 1/11/2009

I took my 4 dogs to UAH for the past five years and got terrific care for them. The staff always made time for my appointments, even when I called last minute. I saw just about every Dr. on the staff; Dr. Curasi was fantastic with my Scotty (successfully removed a cancerous tumor from her foot and treated her for Addison's). Dr. Privette is the kind of vet who gets down on the floor to greet your pet; after my older JRT developed a stiff gait, he kept looking into what could be going on and eventually, we discovered she had Cushing's with a rare manifestation of myopathy. Dr. Newton made the preliminary exam on the stray dog I adopted. I have called them for all sorts of things (I can get a bit crazy about my dogs) and the doctors always have returned my calls within 24 hours. The receptionists, tech and kennel staff couldn't have been kinder, even though one of my JRTs is a bit of a handful! The last time I boarded my dogs, the older JRT needed prednisone (prescribed by her specialist vet) in a dosage not stocked at UAH, so they called the local pharmacy for me and the prescription was waiting for me to pick up. My husband and I have lived in many states over the past 20 years and been to many vets for our many dogs, and UAH ranks up at the top for offering great vet care. I didn't find their prices out of line with other vets providing the same kind of high quality care; the facility is super-clean, and is a member of the AAHA, which was important to me because they undergo voluntary inspections and are held to higher standards than a regular vet practice. Now that we are leaving Orlando, I will miss them. more

I think they are great! 10/30/2008

We've been going to them for several years and love the vets there. They have been great to us and our pets and they even remember things going on with our other pets when it's been months. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs and they really seem to care about all of them. Dr. Privette is the best. I highly recommend him! more

Horrible 7/13/2008

My pup died after staying in their care while I was on vacation. She was active and healthy when I left. I tried to talk with the vet a few days after the pup died. He refused to come to the phone. Although I was not accusing him of wrongdoing, I did think it was important to understand why a healthy dog would die and what could she have been exposed to while there that would cause this. He, through his manager, stated that he was not responsible and that if I wanted to know what happened to go get my dead pups body from the emergency clinic that they sent me to the day I picked her up and bring her body back to him to test. I can't think of a more inappropriate and uncaring response. Needless to say, I would avoid this clinic and these vets at all costs. Even if by some stretch they were not responsible for the death of my pup, their lack of caring and compassion is unbelievable. more

Dr. Curasi is the best vet in town 6/8/2008

We have 3 dogs. A German Shephard, Chocolate Lab and a Pug, so you know they get into things. Dr. Curasi is always there to help you. He recommends treatment, and it always works. Staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended....best in Orlando! more

Always good experiences 3/27/2008

We have three pets that go here for 4 years. The office is clean and the staff have always been very nice. There are several vets which is great when you have an emergency, but it is easy enough to stay with one vet when you have a pet with a complicated history. We have had both situations. We have always been happy with the care our pets have received and will continue to use them more

miraculous recovery 2/11/2008

We had been fighting our dog's skin issue for years. We took her to the University Animal Hospital and the results were nothing short of miraculous. She improved immediately and 60 days later looked like a completely different animal. \r \r Staff has always been accommodating and friendly. more

Terrible staff 8/8/2007

With the exception of a couple people, the staff at this facility is terrible. They have an arrogant attitude and obviously think they are better than everyone else. It is apparent that they are only there to see how much of your money they can get. Even the owner of the facility has that attitude. It's obviously all about the dollar signs!\r And I would recommend not getting too close to the Doctor/owner, he definately needs a mint! more

Don't expect good service 8/8/2007

Wow, this guy is so full of himself and obviously not interested in conducting good business. When I had a question about my bill, I was told he was the one to see about it. Well, I attempted to contact him and got no response. I was in the facility on a later date and came face to face with him. He had a short answer to my question and obviously hurried to get away from me. He had a ""that's just the way it is"" attitude. It amazes me that this guy can't even take a few moments to address a customers question and concern but he definately has no problem taking as much money from me as he can. Hmmm....good businessman? I think not. more

Best vet in town! 8/8/2007

Dr. Privette is a wonderful vet who truly cares about the animals he sees. He is compassionate and understanding. I would definately recommend him to anyone. It's unfortunate that he works in this hospital because the rest of the staff is definately sub-par but it is worth it to deal with them to recieve care from Dr. Privette. more

Bad Attitude Staff 6/28/2007

It's a shame it's all about them because the facility is clean, they like our pets, and the doctors seem to know their stuff. But the staff's arrogant, know-it-all attitude is rude and disrespectful. They are defensive with all questions, especially those involving fees. And they are unwilling to work with clients to solve problems. Instead of assuming questions are for a better understanding, they assume you don't want to pay them. It's odd because most pet owners are grateful for the good care of their pets. After putting up with this crap attitude for a year, and their high product markups, I'm moving on. There must be vets in the Orlando area that are pleasant and nice to their customers. more

No compassion 6/8/2007

Dr. Newton took care of my pup who became critically ill after spending a few days in their boarding facility. When it came time to transport her to another facility that could care for her 24 hours a day, she called and spoke with a vet tech stating that the vet was with a patient. She did not bother to leave a number where she could be reached. The vet at the other facility needed to speak with her and tried to call but she had gone for the weekend. When my pet did not return after the weekend - she died - she did not call to find out what had happened or to express any compassion about our loss. Cons: Cleanliness of facility; lack of compassion more

Worst vet in town 6/8/2007

I took my pup to be boarded while on vacation. She was happy, active and healthy when left. She had been eating well and doubled her weight from when I got her. After 4 days in their care, she became ill. She died 10 days after leaving her there. They did not isolate her from the other dogs as they promised. They did not have the compassion to say they were sorry and charged me a couple of thousand for their carelessness. I would recommend that no one take their pets to him. Cons: Lack of care, cleanliness of facility more

Couldn't even get in 3/25/2006

My cat desperatly needed to be groomed since she was horribly matted and as most cat owners know matts can hurt them horribly. Well, I explained this to them and they wouldn't schedule me until next week! I kept calling them trying to get in sooner and the only opening they had was on a Sunday which was perfect for me, but they wouldn't groom cats on Sunday. I was so frustrated I went elsewhere. This place obviously didn't want my business. PROS: Can't think of anything CONS: Just didn't seem to care more
