Tonight we are planning on going to Tropical Acres for their summer Lobster Special which we have never had a problem with. After reading some of the latest reviews I had doubts as to the rudeness of the staff. Well I called to make a reservation and the woman when asked if they had the lobster went into a whole story of how good they were and how we would be most welcomed.\r \r Yes the decor is old. So what! You guys must love Red Lobster with their frozen foods. There is a reason this place is so popular and here so long. The food is good (not RuthsChris or Mortons - but not their prices either) and the service has always been fine. Of course I don't go there at 8 pm with kids who I would not expect to be amicable at that time anywhere to delays. I am not saying that you should not have waited so long and certainly you should not be treated with rudeness. All I am saying is this is a restaurant that always makes sure you are satisfied. \r \r Oh by the way. I am no way related to this family. Don't even know who they are and would trip over the owner if they were there. I have not been going for 20 years. Just the last 8 years about twice a year and a few times during the summer.\r \r Of course this is IMHO only. I would reccommend this place as average price. If you want better go to Morton's and pay ala carte $30+ for a steak. more

Are you planning on going to this place? Please read the reviews! Notice that every positive review is written by people that have been going there for decades and are friends of the Studiale family. \r \r I have lived in South Florida for more than 20 years and have always been curious about this place. Many of my local friends have advised me over the years not to go there but like they say you learn from your own mistakes and this, was a really big one. \r \r A couple of weeks ago I came across a groupon for Tropical Acres and thought what better way to test out the newly renovated restaurant? \r We had reservations for 8 pm on Friday 6/8/2012 we were greeted by an overly rude hostess and totally rude owner who seemed to have no people skills. We were ushered to the bar and spent money there on drinks. 8:39 pm we were finally seated, remember we had reservations. We handed over our Groupons to our waitress, she claimed it was fine. Service was slow, but hey it gave us time to socialize in a depressing, dull and bad smelling atmosphere. We ordered our food at around 9pm. At 9:45 we were told that there was no more prime rib, we are at a steak house, no prime rib, what kind of steak house is this? We changed one of the orders, which was really no big deal. \r \r At 10:10 the first two meals were served, hallelujah! At this point we could care less what the food was, we were beyond starving! At about 10:20 everybody at the table had there meal. The new York strip was overcooked and tough, the scallops were not fresh and the kids chicken tenders were comparable to less than what you would expect from a fast food Restaurant.\r \r As if that wasn't bad enough at around 10:45 the hostess, with an extremely big ego told us that we could only use one groupon because we were all seated at one huge table. However at the time of seating our waitress said it was perfectly fine as long as we had 4 or more meals on each check, which was no problem because we were a party of 9. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, one waitress gave us the ok after checking with management, while the hostess rudely told us that we could only use one Groupon.\r \r We asked for management and were bluntly told "Not to be so F**king rude!" Thanks for expanding my young daughters vocabulary. The owner/manager came to our table with a snotty attitude. I had my friend take my daughter outside because I expected her to use more profanity. As they say monkey see, monkey do I was afraid she would pick up on the owners attrocious vocabulary. I calmly explained our situation to the owner and her reply was "You don't want to pay? I'm calling BSO (Broward Sheriff Office)" And rudely stormed off, with both of our Groupons and checks. At this point I could care less if I got the discount I just wanted to pay the bill and get out of this musky smelling hell hole.\r \r After getting a partial discount for one of the Groupons we paid our bill and decided, it's time to go home. On the way out we were complimented on being "White Trash" because we were "too cheap to pay the full bill and had to get a discount." The BSO officers advised us to call Groupon, contact our credit cards and write reviews on the Internet.\r \r Well here you have it SOFLA, Tropical Acres is an overrated tourist trap, so next time you're looking for a nice atmosphere and good, prompt service. Do yourself a huge favor, DON'T GO TO TROPICAL ACRES!! more

The worst dining experience I have ever had in my life-what was supposed to be a graduation celebration turned out to be a dining nightmare. Rude person who took my reservation, rude valet who informed us we might want to leave because they were out of lobster, rude bartenders who ignored us-had to wait in bar since they weren't ready to seat us for our 8pm reservation, rude hostess, incompetant waitress, and insulting manager-finally seated at 8:30--food placed in front of us to eat at 10pm only AFTER we complained that we had been waiting 90 minutes & had 4 kids in our party, They claimed to be out of lobster but we saw ohers being served lobster 2 hours after we were seated, 30 minutes after my daughter ordered prime rib they tell us they are out of it, I ordered broiled scallops-they tasted spoiled. Wasn't offered coffee or dessert & will NEVER go back even if we were offered free food have lived in S. FL area 26 years & have never had such terrible service or food more

If you plan to book this place for any type of occasion, let this review be a warning to you, We were hired to DJ 50th Anniversary for our client, we arrived two hours before the event started to setup our equipment. The owner's son opened the door and we proceeded to walk into the room and met the Banquet Captain Sandy, she never said good morning, never smiled. she was looking at her room setup form and was confused, we told her the best place for the DJ is close to the dance floor, she accused us of being rude. We had to move old six foot table across the room to avoid conflict with her, She looked like she did not want to be there and was in very bad mood. She told us the event is over at 3:30pm and the client with their guest and DJ must be out the room at 3:30pm I asked her how is it possible to breakdown our equipment and be out the door when it takes us about 1.5 hours to setup and breakdown. She then said do what you have to do. We then called our client to go over this and client wanted to talk to the son of the owner, we gave him our cell and the client told him there is no way the DJ can leave at 3:30pm he then changed the story and said our next event is at 6:00pm and the DJ has time to get out. He then insulted me to our client by calling me a cry baby. I then told him the way he spoke to my client was insulting and very unprofessional he replied back saying you don't like it get the F_ _ _K OUT! my reply to him was that he does not have to address me in this way and I don't work for him and he said thank god you don't I would throw you out of this place. We requested vendor meal and was ignored by all staff, Client paid for meal. The staff never smiled everyone working the room were all in depressed mood. Some of the guests were upset with the slow service wrong orders and steak and chicken was very dry and did not taste good. You are better off in finding better place in booking a event for the room and food. They have been around for very long time the place smells from mold and mildew they just had a fire and it should have burned down to the ground, you can go to Long Horn, Capital Grill, Ruth Chis, or Mortons and have better service quality steak. STAY AWAY!!! more

My family was in the restaurant business in Hollywood for many years. When we had time off, Tropical Acres was always a great choice.\r \r It was clean, the service was always good, sometimes even having two persons take care of your table. Everything was delivered in a timely manner and the steaks were always excellent.\r \r Hurry up and open, so many people miss you. more

Yes it looks like it's stuck in a time warp. It pretty much is a place to drink martinis in a dark booth, channel the rat pack and eat red meat. Most of the wait-staff is excellent. The steaks are decent if not prime, but then the prices are not like the expensive steak houses either. I was sad when it had the fire and I look forward to returning when it reopens soon. more

This was a wonderful dining experience! We have lived in South Florida most of our lives, and for some reason never tried out this charming restaurant. Family owned since 1949, it is a step back in time but with very up to date food. The twin Maine lobster special (Monday-Friday) was a delicious surprise. The lobster was fresh and cooked to perfection. The creamed spinach was as good as I could make it at home. Very good. My husband had the 12 oz Rib Eye, served perfectly cooked on a sizzling platter. Our server, Sharon, was a delight....funny, fast, helpful and just a darned good server who knew her stuff. We will be returning again and again and I can only say I am so sorry we hadn't come long before tonight. We missed out. I recommend it to anyone who likes a quiet, cozy dinner in a serene and enjoyable place. We were stuffed, and couldn't even take a doggie bag home because the food was so good. Anyone who gave this restaurant a bad review is a snob, and should stick to South Beach. more

Wonderful experience! The Maine lobster special (Monday-Friday) is outstanding! The 12oz. Ribeye was cooked to perfection and served on a sizzling platter. The creamed spinach was to die for! So yummy. Our server, Sharon, was a delight, efficient, funny, and helpful. We've lived in south florida most of our lives, but for some reason overlooked this old-fashioned gem. We will be going again and again because we enjoyed it so much. Good job, guys!! more

I really liked the food and the service was spot on. The decor is a little dated and they could use some younger staff but I'll always go back for their great food. more

Why this place is a South Florida Icon, I'll never know. I had the misfortune of coming here for my Grandfather's remembrance reception last week and the inside of the place was shocking to me and extremely old. Nothing seemed clean, the bartender that was serving us behind the open bar was MISERABLE and rude, and kept rolling her eyes at me every time I walked up and asked for a drink. I could see this attitude and approach if I was asking for my 8th drink, but it was only my 2nd. No one opened the blinds or turned on enough lights in the place, which made the ambiance even more depressing than we were all already feeling. This was supposed to be a happy celebration of someone's life, and the place was old, dirty, disgusting, rude and dark. I would NEVER go back here again. Upon contacting the manager and enlightening him of our horrendous experience, I was basically brushed off VIA email with an apathetic "I'm sorry, and the bartender was doing her job." and nothing more, which is fine because I will continue to spread the word about how miserable this establishment is for an Old Ft. Lauderdale landmark. This place is a toilet that needs to be flushed away forever. more

Tropical Acres, first opened in 1949 has become a South Florida icon. Serving great steak and sea food to this day. I've had the pleasure to have both as well as other dishes throughout the past 20 years and always leave with a smile. more

I have been eating at Tropical Acres since I was a little boy. Now I bring my family there. I have eaten at steak houses around the country; no, the world for that matter. The biggest issue with many is consistancy.... Not with Tropical Acres. They are easily the most consistant with regards to all aspects of their restaurant. The food is always 100% fresh and cooked to order. They even make changes to some items when we go; the Pittsburgh Sear is amazing. The service is always on point and friendly. One of the most important points is the affordability of Tropical Acres. I mean a fine steakhouse with prices that you can afford. Thats why I can go there several times a year. Thanks Tropical Acres... Don't change a thing.... more
