Service is top notch and their food was beyond my expectations. I thouroughly enjoyed my dining experience here and it was worth every penny. more

Great Little Spot 4/22/2011

My hubby and I went there for a much-needed ""date night"" on a Wednesday evening. Attentive service, excellent, no-frills food. Could've used some music to drown out the bar noise-- weird to be in a restaurant without any music-- but otherwise it was great. Try the cheesecake-- it's insanely good! more

Simply One of the *BEST*. 1/4/2011

ScoopNYC's review is WRONG!!! \r \r I can't imagine that the experience you described occurred at Trattoria Toscana... perhaps, your tastes and influences of the art of Northern Italian Cuisines are misconstrued. Fortunately, I will set the record straight.\r \r For those of us who have been long time patrons of Trattoria Toscana , and followed the career path of the owner and executive chef, Franco Fazzuoli, know he had advid, notable followers of his Nona's bolognese such as James Beard and Alfredo Viazzi. So, take note that your bolognese sauce will absolutely be of the highest caliber--- it never disappoints! \r \r Veal Chop with Porcini Mushrooms and Sage, Bistica a la Fiorentina, Parpadella with Rabbit Ragu, Duck Ravioli, and Lobster Risotto... are just a FEW examples of the dishes that are prepared to PERFECTION!\r \r Conversely, the service has always been delightfully charming, gracious and never anything less.\r \r The dishes are so seductive, so tantalizing, so mesmerizing--- much like a magic spell. So, if you've ever truly dined at Trattoria Toscana, you would never forget about it. In fact, you would dream about it. ;) more

Good food -- not extraordinary food -- at fair prices 9/22/2010

Don't be fooled by all the five star reviews. This is not one of the great Italian places in the city. It's a pleasant local joint that serves tasty but forgettable food. Examples? The Bolognese sauce is the ground beef with tomato sauce and pepper -- the sauce you always get at restaurants that can't be bothered to stew the meat and tomatoes for hours and hours until they combine into something that is neither liquid nor solid. The ground beef Bolognese sauce here is fine, but proper Bolognese sauce is transcendent. And if you doubt the gulf is as large as I say, go to Babbo and try their Bolognese sauce. But that's not all. I asked for a veal chop medium rare and it came medium well. It's an easy mistake. Veal is hard to cook. The difference between medium rare and medium well is about 90 seconds, but it's a mistake that rarely happens at truly top places. The service is also a bit slow. All this is not to say you shouldn't give TT a try. It's just to say this place is not some magical spot. more

Local escape from reality--- mini vacay! 4/28/2010

CARAMEL PASTA! It's the chef's special,""Caramel Ripene: Homemade candy shaped pasta that is stuffed with proscuitto veal and chicken. This dish is served with a light cream sauce and vegetables."" Oh,boy! It's genius! Not only is the food perfection, but the service just takes all your cares away. From the time we walked in to the time we left, we were treated better than family! Bravo Trattoria Toscana!\r Pros: The BEST Italian Food you'll ever eat Cons: the meal has to end at somepoint! more

Bravo Trattoria Toscana 2/12/2010

This is the place for pasta plus! Each pasta dish is prepared with the finest ingredients and served perfectly! The ambiance, the staff and of course, Franco make this a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or just to treat yourself to a wonderful authentic Italian meal. It's always a treat for us to eat at Trattoria Toscana. Whether we choose a special pasta or any of the other memorable secondi piatti e.g. Osso Bucco, Veal Chop, etc. we are never disappointed.\r \r Pros: Pasta, pasta, pasta more

Great food and service 1/25/2010

I recently went with my friends to Trattoria Toscana for my birthday. I had been there several times before. As usual , both the food and service were excellent. The pasta was excellent. I would also recommend the cold antipasta mista and the cheese cake for dessert. In addition, the wine has never been disappointing. Recently, Trattoria Toscana received a ""27"" food rating from Zagat. Well deserved. Bravo Franco. Pros: Great pasta, wine, very good cheese cake. more

please go 12/21/2009

This restaurant is the best of what Greenwich Village has to offer. The owner has spent a lifetime building the finest italian restaurants: Zinno, Ponte Veccio, Cent Anni. Now we are lucky to have him back with Trattoria Toscana. You are treated as the special guests in his house and the food is restorative and delicious. I just went for my birthday and will go back as often as I possibly can. Pros: lovely food and an intimate atmosphere Cons: none more

Perfect Meal 9/7/2009

I was introduced to Trattoria Toscana by a dear friend when a long-time favorite restaurant had closed. Oh my goodness, we have to find a new one . . . well, this became the one! What delicious food for everyone and portions that are just right Depending on where you sit, the atmosphere is intimate to also being appropriate for groups and in the warm weather, sitting next to the large open windows and looking out is perfect. There is also a solo guitarist who plays on a weekly basis during the summer just outside of the restaurant so it creates a nice background, yet is unobtrusive. The staff is very warm and witty, never sacrificing professionalism. It is difficult to recommend a particular dish because they are each so specific and tasty but I am definitely looking forward to our next meal there. Close to various subway lines is also key. It's like coming home! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Location Cons: None so far more

Greenwhich Village's Finest! 7/30/2009

I have lived in Greenwich Village most of my life. And Trattoria Toscana has fast become the neighborhood's culinary crown jewel! The dishes are authentically Italian and uniquely prepared. The ingredients are always fresh. The service is personable and friendly. You never feel rushed. The wine list is superb. And both the everyday menu and daily specials are varied enough to accommodate most any budget. If you had to dine at only one restaurant in downtown Manhattan, this would be the one to choose. Pros: Authentic Italian cuisine, great service and wine list more

Wonderful way to spend an evening! 4/17/2009

We were there last night (April 16 '09), a party of 12. I had made a reservation beforehand and they had everything ready. We were promptly seated and offered drinks, antipasti. The waiting staff were courteous and very helpful. The best part was that despite being a huge group, we were able to talk all through the evening and didn't feel rushed at any point. They even allowed us to bring a cake from outside to celebrate our friend's birthday and brought it out with a candle and everyone in the restaurant wished our friend! I loved everything about this quaint place, it was charming, romantic and a fun place to go for dinner- I am definitely going back! Pros: Beautiful ambience, great food and nice selection of wine Cons: None! more

Best old world atmosphere and food!!! 2/22/2009

When I go in an Italian restaurant I expect, beside a hearty meal, to feel like home.\r And when the host, by the name of Franco, came toward me and almost hugged me like I was a long lost friend, honestly, he made my day.\r The setting of this little trattoria resemble those restaurant of the old Europe that are always not easy to find but worthed the trip.\r And Frnco did not let me down on the food: a luscios antipasto freddo came to share, with fresh burrata, prosciutto, roasted peppers and seafood salad. Ask for fried zuccchini too and tried them the way Franco suggest: with a touch of real balsamic: to die for!!\r For main course we had a Arista, a thick as a brick cut of pork loin on the bone, so tender and juicy, and a florentine steak good to feed a family of four. I had steaks in steakhouses but you have to try theirs!\r We pared the meal with a fantastic Chianti riserva villa Parri.\r The experience was unbelivable and I vowed to go back as soon as possible.\r Grazie Franco!! \r more

amazing italian food for a great price!!!! 10/7/2008

A friend of mine recommended me this restaurant and the only thing I can say is that he knew what he was talking about!!. I had an event to share with some relatives and all were impressed with the service, fantastic food and especially the price!!. From the Antipastos, the variety of pastas an the plenty selection of entries they offer, we left very satisfied. It's good to know that there are still places like this in New York where you can enjoy authentic italian food without breaking our budget. Tratoria Toscana made us feel like part of Franco's family, its owner, that's why certainly will repeat this lovely and authentic italian experience...\r Congratulations Franco, and all the best for you, your staff and you cozy restaurant!!!! Pros: Service, price, ambience, great food more

delicious reasonably-priced food, family atmosphere. 10/5/2008

The second that I walked in to Trattoria Toscana I was greeted by the owner, Franco Fazzuoli, and his staff. Not only is the Tuscan food first class, but the customer service is amazing! From the appetizers to the desserts, my taste buds were in heaven! The antipasto with 5 different tastings from fresh seafood salad to the burrata cheese was excellent. The pastas, all homemade, were fresh, light, and very flavorful (my favorite is strozzapretti). The entrees including the arista di maile(roast loin of pork) left me cleaning the plate with the delicious bread. The desserts were homemade from Franco's mother's recipe.\r \r This friendly and reasonably priced Village restaurant is DEFINITELY worth a trip. The atmosphere always makes you feel like you are one of the family and the service is SUPERB!!!!! more

Exquisite, refined Italian cuisine 8/16/2008

What a beautiful dinner! I used to go to the Franco's restaurants when he was in Scottsdale AZ and I was so disappointed when he moved back to New York. The service was very attentive, the food unparalleled. Whenever I travel to the east coast I will always make Trattoria Toscana a destination to stop by and have a truly world class Italian meal. Pros: Highest quality food prepared by the best chef more

Unparalleled service and cuisine. 8/10/2008

Personal hospitality was superior, as the owner himself delivered dinner items to our table.\r They held our table far past closing time and stayed until we completed dining. We had appetizer and dinner items which we had not ever tasted previously. All were fabulous. The location with the fold-out window to Carmine Street completed the culinary experience.\r more

LIVED UP TO THE REVIEWS 8/3/2008

My wife and I tried Trattoria Toscana Friday night based on the reviews in Citysearch, and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends, and the experience just got better throughtout the meal. The service was attentive and friendly, while the food was excellent. We started with the a warm antipasto that was just right and then had different pasta dishes for our entree: homemade pasta with proscuitto, herbs and cream for her, and pappardelle with chicken, mushrooms and cream for me. Both dishes were well prepared and very tasty. We had the ice cream cake for dessert which was alittle different than expected but just great. Franco, the owner and original chef can be very proud of this restaurant and his staff. They deserve the praise they get in all the reviews and my wife and I agreed that we will be coming back here more than once to try several of the other choices on the menu! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Great Old School Joint 5/28/2008

What a great place. The food is simple and fresh, and lovely to taste. If you are looking for authenticity, the food is almost as welcoming as the service. What wonderful people. The wait staff shares the pride of the owner of the restaurant, making the dining experience there something akin to visiting an Italian relative's home. They truly measure their success on the enjoyment of their customers. I went first as a couple and then again with a large group, and both times were a joyful experience. They make dishes that carry on a tradition of regional Italian cuisine - not just the typical Italian fare. When I can't make it home to my Grandma's house, this is the next best thing. Pros: Try the desserts...all of them Cons: hmmmm...none I can think of more

Can't wait to go back 5/15/2008

On a trip to New York we had a mouth watering dinner here. In fact it was by far the best meal we had this trip. Everything that Steve the chef prepared for us was delicious, but the tripes are out of this world ! I've been craving them ever since we were there and can't wait to go back, by the way I don't normally eat tripes. Any chef that can do what he can do with tripes derserves 5 Stars! more

The Return of a genius 3/25/2008

Franco Fazzuoli is now back in the city after all these years. He had three very succesful toscan italian restaurants in the 70's and 80's named Zeno's, Chiantani, and Ponte Veccio. Now he had trattoria toscana on Carmine street, and it is so wonderful to be able to eat his wonderful cusine again. There is not one bad thing on the menu, the pastas, the entree's, the appetizers, everything is so fresh and seasoned to perfection. The service is great and Franco is a true italian delight himself. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion or any night of the week. more
