What a great meal! 7/18/2011

The menu has changed at this rest. They have a lot of shared light bites that are to die for! I had the filet with and it was so tasty. I normally have a steak sauce. This steak did not need anything. It was PERFECT! I am in the area for business. I had heard that this was a great restaurant, but mainly for a special occassion. All the tables were full with casual clad guest. Between the price, food quality and view. I would mke this restaurant a choice for every day. CDS washington more

Bad start to a New Years Eve. evening 1/2/2011

We had dinner at top of the rock for New Years Eve. The service is very poor. Took us 15 min. before server came 2 our table. For $ 85 a person we had a 4 course dinner. We were ther 55 min before we got our salads (should have had appetizer first, another server took it to the wrong table). I had to signal our server to see where our appetizers were. She went ahead and got our salads 15 min. later cause they were out of crabcakes & it would be another 5 min. for them. In between each course we waited atleast 30 min. After looking around I could see other customers frustrated also. Over all from time of arrival we were leaving there 2 & half hrs later. We decided because the gtatuity is included in meal, the service really didnt matter. I do have to give kudos to the chef, the food was worth the wait. To bad the service didn't match. The place wasnt that busy, but you think for a holiday the kitchen would have been better prepared. more

Birthday tradition 4/1/2010

We have made the Top of the Rock our birthday tradition for the past year. Everyone looks forward to their ""moment"" in the limelight as the staff takes extra special care to be sure they are having a memorable time. With such a wide variety of excellent food, there is something to please everyone. This time, think we'll try a limo so no one will have to be DD and we can all enjoy our champagne. Pros: attentive service - superb food more

Smoking Waitress 4/20/2008

It was a special night on the town for me and my lady. We had reservations and were dropped off a few minutes early by our driver. The restaurant was beautiful and empty. I thought great, but quickly found out that it was not so. The hostess barely greeted us, but requested we wait a few minutes. So we did. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we were seated and to my displeasure we were seated at a table without view. I did not say a word because everything I wanted to look at was seated at my table already. When our waitress came over to the table she smelt fresh from the smoking lounge. My date and I are non-smokers and found the stench unappealing. We both ordered Peach Martinis. Neither of us were able to take more than a few sips. They were awful. Salads came. Ceasar salad was ok. I prefer the Ceasar anywhere else and The Top of the Rock salad was oily, I'm not sure how, but it was not good. I had the steak Dianne. It was very good. My date had sea bass. It was too fishy and the rice was mushy and not in a good-to-eat way. Dessert was the only saving grace. Creme Brulet. It was devine. I will never go back. The service was ok if you are able to get past the cloud of smoke, and the food was just not enough boom for your buck. Pros: dessert Cons: service, price, food more

Slow Service 2/7/2008

The environment was nice, but service was VERY slow. It took forever to get our drinks...appetizers and even the bread! more

Really enjoyed the whole experience 3/21/2007

The atmosphere was elegant but relaxed, our waiter was very friendly and helpful, the menu had some very interesting selections, and we enjoyed our food and wine very much. The view might be better during the day, as the desert scape is more interesting during the day than the Tempe lights at night. It is a good choice for a romantic evening. Pros: Service, food Cons: Might be difficult to drive to more

Poor service, Great food... 12/7/2006

When we went to Top of The Rock we decided to go in for brunch after having a very late night on Saturday. We didn't make reservations and walked into an EMPTY dining room at 11:30 and we were asked IF WE HAD RESERVATIONS? We stated that we didn't, and then it took a minute for the hostess to see if she could find us a seat. She then took us to the CENTER OF THE ROOM WHERE THERE IS NO VIEW! All of the tables right by the window were open, and we asked if we could sit there. She replied with a very curt ""No, we save those for our reservations."" We were waited on by a very heavy set girl who seemed to judge us as soon as we sat down. We were both very tired (we had a late night the night before) and we knew we looked like it, but the last thing we needed was our server giving us the once over. She proceeded to ignore us, and talk with other co-workers. We had to wave her down more than once. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone as far as service is concerned. However, the brunch was outstanding. Kudos to the chef. Pros: Great food, valet available Cons: Bad service, view not guaranteed more

TERRIBLE SO TURN AND RUN! 6/2/2006

The hostess tricked us into sitting at the absolute worst table by asking us if we would like a window seat; all this table offered was a nasty view of the parking lot and several ugly thermostats. Our female server neglected us the entire time. We spent an extra hour just waiting for her to give us the dessert menu and check so we could get the heck out of that horrible place. Later decided against dessert. The tasteless LAMB came swimming in a pool of OIL, and no amount of salt could rescue that waste of a dish. The potato cake (that came with the filet) exhibited a thick carcinogenic layer of black crust poisoning our lungs, if not our stomachs. Service was TERRIBLE and rude. Take your money and run to any of the OTHER excellent restaurants in the valley. Dont say you werent warned Pros: Clean, Quick drink refill Cons: Terrible Taste, Horrible Service, Low Value more

Brunch was awesome! 12/4/2005

My husband and I went to Top of the Rock for their brunch for our 6th anniversary. It was terrific! Service was tremendous...our drinks were never empty, napkins were always re-folded and our chairs were turned each time we left the table. The view was wonderful, the unobtrusive music was great, service was great, food was wonderful and each of the employees at the stations were kind and helpful. There were many food stations to choose from. No way you could try everything. We left full and happy! We would recommend this brunch for any celebration. Pros: Service, Food, Romantic more

Best place for brunch on earth 8/23/2005

My wife and I travel the world and have dined at the best, but this place is our number one brunch spot on the planet. From gourmet southwester fare to seafood, this is the bruch to remember. The views from within the restaurant are spectular. You can even dine al fresco on their patio. Pros: Food, View, Value Cons: Brunch is only Sunday more

Exceptional restaurant 7/25/2005

We stayed at the Buttes for a romantic weekend getaway, and we were most pleased with this restaurant. We dined at Top of the rock for dinner and brunch while we stayed at the Buttes. Both dining experiences were fantastic. I had the pork tenderloin, which was moist and delicious and my wife had the chicken dish -WOW!!! Brunch was amazing, with a huge spread of seafood, and even a chef to make me any kind of omelette I wanted. I felt pampered in that restaurant, as the service was superb both times we visited. We will be back!!! Pros: excellent view, great service, fantastic food Cons: decor outdated, windows not washed more

Anniversary Nightmare 2/5/2004

My wife and I had 2 of our worse dining experiences in Phoenix here. We went here for our 10th wedding anniversary, as we heard it was 1 of Phoenix most romantic. We had a romantic view of interstate 10's Broadway curve. The waiter bought out the wrong wine, a red instead of white. Our fish was over cooked, I picked up the whole filet with my fork and it didn't flake. They comped the meal and invited us back, but the second visit was just as bad. Won't go back. Cons: , Food more

Excellent Restaurant 2/3/2004

I had the great pleasure of dining at the Top of the Rock Restaurant right after Christmas. Was visiting with family, and had their Sunday brunch. All the food was so fresh and delicious! The whole family pigged out. We also had the pleasure of meeting executive chef Ben Ramirez. He made his rounds to make sure all the customers were satisfied. Great ambience, great chefs, great food! Going back for dinner!!!! Pros: knowledgeable staff, gorgeous view, incredible food more

drunk waiter 11/25/2003

The food at Top of The Rock was exceptionally good when I last visited. However the waiter I had was obviously drunk. I received the absolute worst service ever. That is if you could even call it service. The waiter we had was busy chatting with another table about golfing most of the time we were there. The only time we saw our waiter was when he took our drink order and our dinner order. The support staff and other waiter(s) did everything else for us. I will not return to Top of The Rock because of this. He was obviously drunk and was not at work to work. He was at work to play and do as he wished. A restaurant of this caliber should be embarassed to have someone like this on their staff. Pros: great food, Valet Parking, great view Cons: drunk waiter, poor service, too dark inside more

This place rocks! 10/30/2003

My expierence as well as the many people I have taken there was outstanding. The staff was very professional and catered to all of our needs. The chef de cusine Ben Ramierez and his squad of chefs put out an excellent array of very palet pleasing dishes. As for the sunday brunch the fresh pastry and dessert display is a must visit if you want to ""pack on the poundage"". Overall take your significant other here and I promise they will be more than impressed Pros: Very professional, great food, awesome brunch Cons: bad parkingg more

Top of the Rock is top on my list ! 7/27/2003

I was amazed at the stunning view of the valley from this restaurant. The service as well as the food and ambience was absolutely fantastic. The only downfall to my visit with my fiance at this restaurant is that the air conditioner on the back half of the room was broken. It was extremely warm. We are also big fans of valet parking and in 105 degree weather you don't want to have to walk up a mountain. The valet was unavailable at 5:30 pm and parking was quite a ways from the restaurant. Pros: Great Food, Great View, Great Service Cons: Bad Parking more

wonderful !!! 12/10/2002
