Mediocre 6/1/2010

Overall, food mediocre. The salads we choose were pretty good but the entres left a bit to be desired. We all sampled different entres and no one was really impressed. I the duck...Irene's much better. The amosphere was nice and overall nice place but food just not good enough to return. Go to Irene's if you are looking for a great Italian meal in the Quarter. more

Goodnight Irene's 5/18/2009

I refused to go to Irene's because I won't wait in line for anything. No reservations is a crappy way to do business and smacks of egotism. When I learned the chef at Tommy's had started up his own place after running Irene's, we went for our anneversary. I had flowers delivered to the restaurant for my wife, and they were nice enough to hold them for her until we showed up for OUR RESERVATION.\r \r I had duck, the best I can remember. We had champagne delivered by a knowledgeable waiter, and left full and extremely impressed. I am a chef. Pros: Excellent Food, Excellent Service more

THE BEST ITALIAN food and Superb Service! 2/27/2009

Tommy's cuisine has provided my family and I with some of the most memorable culinary experiences that we have shared. The meals that we've had there have always exceeded our expectations. It would also be a disservice not to mention how wonderful we are always treated by the waitstaff. This is our favorite restaurant and we dine there at least once a month. My favorite is the Veal Sorrentina and my Mom always goes between the Duck Tchoupitoulas and the Soft-shell Crab. My Husband and Brother always order the same thing, Seafood stuffed eggplant. When the Gumbo is the soup du jour, we all enjoy a bowl! Pros: most delicious italian in New Orleans and wonderful service more

Fantastic!! 2/15/2009

The food was amazing! From the time we walked in the door until we left, I have no complaints. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Everyone got a different entree and there were no leftovers! We found this to be the best dining experience all week. And we are going back again before we leave. Tommy's is well worth the time and money. Pros: Great dining experience more

Poor food and service 7/26/2008

Pasta was overcooked and drowned in a mediocre sauce - waiter was clueless how to respond.\r A special of the night - Seafood stuffed eggplant - was below average. Seafood ingredients could been seen but not tasted. Very disappointing. Pros: No reservation needed on a Saturday night Cons: Problems in the kitchen more

Great European Dining On Tchoupitoulas 6/12/2008

Thought I was back in Europe, this is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I like good food, but it must come with good atmostphere as well, Tommy's Cuisine has it all with a great waitstaff. The Duck Tchoupitulas is a favorite, as is the the Veal Sorrentina, running close behind is the Fish Capri. For appetizers I always get the Escargot Aux Champignons, which is escargot in mushroom caps, with lots of buttery garlic, I've not tried any of the others. I'm not much on desserts, but I've tasted the Creme Brulee which was very good. Never, never leave Tommy's without a cup of their espresso to finish off the night, this espresso is the best in town. Next door is their cozy, intimate wine bar, nice music, nice wine, and nice people.\r \r The only thing that I would change about Tommy's Cuisine, and this is being very picky, I wish they had nicer wine glasses, I prefer my wine in tall stems, thin, rimless glasses. Pros: Food, Wine, Great Staff, Romantic Cons: Wine Glasses more

Rude waitstaff 5/12/2008

I have been dining in the Warehouse District, the FQ and Uptown at some of the best restaurants in the world. Tommy's has been one of my favorites with a romantic atmosphere and dependable food. On Sunday I had a guest in town and was excited to take this individual to several of my favorite locations which included Clancy's, Upperline and some others. All were great as advertised. Unfortunately, we went to Tommy's on a Sunday night where our waiter refused to let us order appetizers without ordering the rest of the meal based on the ""house rule"" saying ""chef would be extremely upset"". I have eaten at Tommy's 50-60 times in the last year and this was a surprise. What was less of a surprise was that my friend and I walked out and won't be returning... Emeril's was good as usual though so not a total loss... Pros: Food, atmosphere and a few good waiters (Ken) Cons: One or two waiters who ruin it more

Abusive staff - highly overrated 5/12/2008

I have never written a negative review before but I feel it would be a disservice not take the time to share my utterly disappointing experience at Tommy's. I was extremely excited to not only visit the city of New Orleans but also to inject some cash into the local economy. We asked to order three appetizers to start and our server told us that we must order all of our food at once otherwise the chef would be ""extremely upset"". He also mentioned some sort of house rule but I had already grabbed my purse and informed the waiter we would be leaving and the last thing that I would want to do is upset the chef. There were several empty tables in the place (it was a Sunday night) and I am sure there will be plenty more in the near future. Irene's (near by) was completely booked and now I know why. If you enjoy being insulted by people who depend on your money for their livelihood - Tommy's is your place. If I was the manager of Tommy's I would change my name, put on a baseball cap, buy a bus ticket and leave town. We did had a lovely meal at Emeril's. Pros: none come to mind. Cons: Our waiter was so incredibly rude I had to leave without even trying the food. more

Good food, poor service 4/12/2008

This is my first ever negative review....\r \r The food was excellent as expected. Unfortunately, the servers started asking to take our plates when we were only half way done eating. On several occasions, I had to ask them to put my plate back down because I was still eating. It was clear that they wanted to move us out of there to seat the next group and they were noticably annoyed that we were socializing and taking our time. I asked for a doggy bag when the server put a dessert menu down next to my unfinished meal. I believe that we should be allowed to relax and finish great food without being harassed, especially when paying $70 - 80 per person. \r \r Again, the food is wonderful. I would not advise going on a busy night, because they schedule too many reservations. Pros: Food quality Cons: Servers are aggressive when trying to get you out in order to seat the next group. more

Worth Every penny! 5/19/2007

What can I say but WOW! Tommy's Italian Cuisine by far is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Ive tried Commanders Palace , Brigtsens and Emerils which is a tourist trap and does not even compare to Tommys. The appetizers and entree were so delicious oh my god you could eat your fingers without even knowing you did. The snails ,oysters and rosemarino chicken was to die for OH LORD YUMMO! Then came the creme brulee oh god enough said ! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY YOU DID!\r \r Note : The chef originally came from Galatoires and all I can say is BRAVO!!! more

Authentic 4/10/2006

This place is wonderful! We enjoyed the authentic Italian waiters. They were very personable, knowledgeable, and just fun! The ambience is great- it isn't a huge place- kinda reminded me of a mom and pop type restaurant. Food was fabulous and we will certainly go back! more

A hint of europe 8/2/2005

The lamb took me back to my summer in Greece when my grandmother prepared it fresh.. The sauce was incredible and the service was personal.. Sam was my waiter who went out of his way to make sure I had the most memorable experience.. I'll be back again.. Pros: friendly waiters, upscale bar, excellant food Cons: parking more

Fabulous Food 7/29/2005

This restaurant is definitely worth your $. The food is absolutely wonderful and taste like a slice of heaven. The service was great as well. The minute I arrived, they had greeters at the door with a warming welcome. Me and 2 friends of mine met for dinner and each of us loved our meals. I had a savory fish dish and I ate every bit of it. The ambience is perfect, but I do agree it is not for a large group of people. The decor gives you the feel of ""old new orleans"" with the brick walls and lace curtains. It is better than most of the higher priced restaurants in New Orleans. After dining, there is a wine loft next door to socialize at after your meal. I look forward to going back really soon. I think they have 1 room that holds large parties. Pros: quaint, great service, great dishes Cons: parking, not for small kids, kind of hidden more

Great place to eat 4/4/2005

First off the service was wonderful. Our waiter Antoine made the night wonderful for all of us. Food was great. My tutle soup was wonderful. Bread putting was a great way to end the night. The decor is a little iffy but it is in a very old part of town so it is understandable. Pros: Food, Service, Deserts Cons: No waiting area more

Wonderful food, save room for desert 2/11/2005

The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the escargot and veal. They also have a wonderful desert that is a combination of praline pecan bread pudding and bananas foster with ice cream. They also seated us and served us early even though we arrived 15 minutes before the restaurant opened for dinner. more
